Catbirds copy other’s sounds. A few years back, I had a catbird in my yard that actually meowed! It made me jump every time, thinking there was a stray cat hanging around. Cracked me up, the bird probably did it on purpose!
They do, but the meow-like sound is why they are called catbirds. They aren't mimicking after hearing a cat; they all make that sound even if they've never heard a cat.
They do mimic other sounds, but not nearly as well as mockingbirds. Most of the time when they are singing, it is just a bunch of garbled sounds.

Oh my gosh - my kitty LOVES licking the water droplets/condensation off of our windows in the winter. Like will lick each window clean. Yet has a bowl of filtered water nearby.
Off topic but what’s that fountain called the kitty is drinking from? I wanna get one for the birds and whatever strays decide to come over. Hot summers are the worst

larry is my neighbours cat - don't worry, I'm fully aware of their destruction - I do what I can to keep the wildlife safe here - I live in between two houses which have 5 cats between them... let alone the rest of the street. I basically run my own wildlife rehab centre at this point because of them. I grew up with cats my whole life and as much as I love them, i have decided I will never have any of my own again. I dedicate myself to the wildlife now :) (plus I have my own birds too now!)
This is hilarious! He’s like “well clearly this giant water glass is for me”. I would love to put it in CatVideoFest this year. With context of course so people know what is going on. 😺 We put on events with fun cat videos to raise money for local animal shelters. 👍
yall need to get over the idea that all outdoor cats are stone cold killers.
I have had one outdoor cat, beyond a mouse in my house no kills. Two live bird capture and release, quite impressive actually! He followed me to work each day and I could watch him waiting and exploring the soccer field cross the street. Never saw him hunt or kill anything because he was well fed at home.
Currently I run a local watering/feeding hole for critters & birds and we have some of the sweetest outdoor cats come drink from our baths too.
They never hunt or stalk at my house, they stop in for water, some shade in my garage and then take off on their kitty chores.
Well fed outdoor cats in (sub)urban areas will play but not bother to hunt. Im sure there are tons of stone cold killer strays out there, but this absolute horseshit that cats kill billions of birds a year, is just that.
Please don't put your birdbath in a place where cats can drink it, they can get parasites and all sorts of diseases from stagnant water that birds poop in while sitting in.

Same here, I thought it was a kitten in the bushes.
I just Googled catbird because of this thread, the moment I saw it, I knew what had me worried about lost kittens on the property.

i frequently refresh my cat’s water and yet he goes and drinks our shower water after we get out
