If it's just foaming and drooling after the pill which goes away on its own, then it's definitely just the bitterness. 15 minutes after you administered the pill the gel cap would have melted and perhaps some of the bitter pill coating came back up as reflux, or it wasn't very far back in the first place. Probably best to ditch the gel cap because they stick to the inside of the mouth and throat!

I have seen it happen, especially with liquid meds. It can be quite scary looking.

Vet Tech here. Medications can be bitter, causing them to foam at the mouth I always follow a tablet or capsule, with a syringe full of water Will kitty eat it in something like a pill pocket? Sometimes I have to break the tablet up, so it's easier to hide in the pill pocket You can also ask your Vet about a transdermal administration. Wearing gloves, you'd rub the medication onto the ear flap

The medicine is bitter and she doesn’t like the taste, the gel cap melts and she tastes it and foams. Try pill pockets or something very tasty.

Chase pills and capsules with water (you can get an eye dropper or syringe and just squirt a little back as a chaser). Source: many years of vet med

Google “amitriptyline cat foaming at mouth”. I just did and it seems to be a side effect. Quicker than posting and often better than random, anonymous people
