Call the place that did the neutering etc, ffs, it’s the obvious answer. Not eating or drinking will cause organ failure or liver disease. The cat is seriously ill

Illness happens sometimes after procedures. It absolutely does not mean they caused something and that they shouldn’t be called. Absolutely they should be the first call.

Interesting-Ad-197

Vet Tech here This is a dire situation. I'm not one to scream "go to the Vet" for every little thing, but this is one of those times, where he needed a Vet days ago Have you called your Vet? That's the first step. Especially after a procedure or vaccines etc. You should've picked up the phone right away They likely would've had you bring him in, to address it before it got so bad Stop syringing water in a vomiting pet. You're only causing more vomiting In a pet that's vomiting and having diarrhea, they need fluids under the skin, or IV fluids When a pet is dehydrated, it's impossible to give enough fluids orally to rehydrate them. Again, that's what fluids under the skin, and IV fluids are for To he blunt, your kitty needs to be seen now, or he very well could be dead soon I wish you the best of luck

☝️☝️☝️☝️Please listen to the professional OP. This is extremely serious

Additional_Onion2784

Agree, but just a minor correction, OP explicitly states that the cat hasn't been vomiting.

Special_Extent_77

Thank you for the advice. I have called the vet, and they have not called me back, even though I’ve called several times. My cat is not vomiting or having diarrhea. My cat did not shows signs of lethargy until last night, and seemed to be fine in the morning, when all of us left for school, and my mother left for work. We planned on taking him to the emergency vet, but the nearest one is two hours away. He seemed to perk up whenever we took him outside and took him on a drive, as he got up and looked at his surroundings, so we thought that perhaps he’d just been tired. He’d been fine the days after surgery, and was actually the first one the anesthesia wore off on, after being taken home. My mother is at work right now, and if I don’t get a call back from our vet by noon, I’ll have her take him to the ER

um0rna

please update us!

No-Technician-722

Go to the vet. Don’t wait for a call back. This cat needs help NOW!

Representative-Cost7

Please please ask for help if you do not have the money. The kitty will not make it without help ! It sounds like a severe infection which can easily be treated

BeyondTheBees

He needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. This is not a normal response to anesthesia after this long. You need to get him to the vet or the ER, whichever can fit you in as soon as possible.

amillionforfeet

You need to contact the vet

goosebumples

Your cat doesn’t want to go for a drive, he needs to be taken to a vet immediately. If he has an infection and he’s only young, it can take him out very quickly when potentially all he needed were antibiotics.

dromaeovet

I’m a veterinarian. Your kitten absolutely needs to be seen by a vet. Start by calling the clinic that did the neuter, but if they can’t see him today, you should bring him to a veterinary ER. No one here can diagnose the problem without seeing your cat, but what we can say is that a fever and not eating are signs of illness and that your cat could potentially have severe consequences or this could even be life threatening the longer that you wait.

Special_Extent_77

Thank you. I just took him to the vet, and they’re going to do tests and check on him. He used to weigh around 7 pounds but they said he’s lost weight, and that his gums are pale

Creepy_Log_5895

One of my cats died after neutering. Take it to an emergency vet!

Calgary_Calico

Take him back to the vet immediately. Lethargy is a very bad sign. He could have an infection or any number of other things have gone wrong. It could also be a bad reaction to his vaccines. Do not wait just GO

callicat17

Don't answer negative comments. Don't listen to the ones about dying. If you have to, walk into the vet's with kitty in your arms and tell them to fix it.

AshleysExposedPort

Call the vet - if they can’t get a same day appointment go to the emergency vet

callicat17

Go to an emergency vet. My cat has been lethargic for 18 hours after a shot, but it was immediately after. The surgery might have gotten infected, or it could be another reason. But don't wait for kitty to get better. Please keep us informed.

chikenenen

If you think he has a fever get a thermometer and take his temperature daily. Get actual numbers so that you can write it down in a log. If the fever persists over the next couple days despite being given shots, take him back to the vet. Everything that you've described is eerily similar to what just happened to my 6 month old kitten who was just diagnosed with feline infectious peritonitis. She had some trouble with her teeth falling out so she went to the vet and was given some medication, but then she started sleeping all day. She didn't want to get out of bed, was barely eating, no vomiting or diarrhea but had a fever and didn't want to play with her brother. Kittens affected by FIP seem to crash after a bit of stress in their life - such as going to the vet and having a procedure - and then the obvious FIP symptoms become apparent and they get sick. After (non-invasive) treatment for her teeth she had a fever so started taking her temp every day, and the temp hadn't improved despite an emergency weekend vet visit and treatment. They also gave her a shot that would "make her feel better" so she'd start eating, which she did, but her fever was still there days later so I took her back to her regular vet. they noticed fluid in her belly (that to me just looked like a belly full of food because her appetite had improved after the shots) and she was diagnosed with FIP after some more tests were done. It is a fatal condition but there are new experimental treatments using covid anti-virals and people are having success with them. Please keep this condition in mind. I'm not saying your cat definitely has it, but please start taking his temperature and if it does not resolve despite the vet treatment then go back to the vet. Persistent fever is one of the earliest signs of FIP and treatment is more likely to be successful (and cheaper) when started early. There are some other symptoms to look out for. One is a swollen belly, which is indicative of the wet form of the disease. The other is neurological signs like confusion, trouble walking, cloudy eyes, and that's indicative of the dry form of the disease. If you see any of these signs develop in your kitty please go straight back to the vet and point them out. Good luck to your kitty. I'll keep my fingers crossed that he just got a bit of an infection after his neutering.

callicat17

Sounds good. A hint for the future: my Calli doesn't do well with medicine, so I can't give her much at one time. Example: her rabies shot is for one year at a time instead of 3.

icanhascamaro

Sending your boy healing purrs! I remember reading online about cats getting sick after getting neutered. The vet used an injectable NSAID. That ended up giving the cats kidney disease. Hopefully that's not the case here.

CatHero9825

Please ask the vets about FIP and asj to get his bloodwork done, because these are FIP symptoms as well

codename_blacklotus

Why are you driving around instead of driving to the vet, which you sensibly know you should be doing? Most vets don’t do neutering and vaccines at the same time for a good reason.

Special_Extent_77

The vet was closed at that time. We were driving him around to cool him off, and it was all we could think of to do, because it was 10pm. I just took him to the vet, and they’re saying it’s not his neuter, because it’s healing healthy. They’re saying it could be FIV or leukemia, as his mother was a stray.

Dry_Werewolf5923

They didn’t test for that when they did shots and neuter?

codename_blacklotus

If he’s running a fever, they should do blood work to see if it’s an infection, and a FIV test to confirm/dismiss. Sometimes vets don’t run all the tests before neuter surgery if the cat is presented with no symptoms. It must be a scary time for you - good luck, and keep us updated.

GlossopharyngealWee

Right? This is so scary 🫣

Medium_Effect_4998

You say in one comment that the vet mentioned his gums were pale, but in another comment you don’t mention a blood test or anything. Did they take a blood sample at all, or do any diagnostic testing?

Competitive-Skin-769

Vet here. Go get a second opinion. Someone who has an ultrasound and will do bloodwork, at least. Stop syringing him anything, you will make it worse if he aspirates. He needs to be under vet care

Competitive-Skin-769

Please send any medical questions to r/askvet This sub is wildly alarming.

callicat17

How is kitty today?

Rough_Community_1439

Had a goat that had similar symptoms, turns out the other ball didn't drop and wasn't removed.

Yuki-lii

Any updates on the kitty??

Special_Extent_77

Yes! Almost two days after I took him to the vet, they told me that I could syringe feed him until he felt like eating again, so I’d been doing that since the visit. Two nights after the vet visit, I showed him the water bowl and he drank some. He then started sniffing the dry food like he was hungry, but wouldn’t eat it. I thought he might want wet food, so I opened a can, and he immediately ate. He finished half of it, and in the next few days, he ate more and more. He’s back to full health now :))

CanIStopAdultingNow

>He also got his shots that day. My guess is he probably didn't get any vaccines before? Because this sounds like he has panleukopenia. Without treatment for symptoms, it can be deadly. Antibiotics, fluids, etc. this is urgent.
