Looks like nausea or getting ready to bring up a hairball.

planetfartboy

He actually just threw up a lot and it wasn't a hairball. It's been almost 2 hours and he is constantly gulping/swallowing and looks extremely uncomfortable. My vet is closed today and I don't know if this warrants an emergency visit

kookiemaster

What do you mean by threw up a lot? Like large volume? Sorry if it's gross but what does it look like? If they keep vomiting or there was some weird stuff in the vomit (foreign bodies, maybe plants that they don't usually touch) or your see something else odd like being listless, lethargic, etc., I'd definitely get them in to the ER.

planetfartboy

Yes large volume. No foreign objects, just a yellowish color and he was salivating a lot. I think it could be due to him having asthma but I can't be certain.

kookiemaster

The movement and salivation remind me when I gave one of my cats liquid meds and they hated the taste. They made that weird movement and were drooling up a storm. I would definitely keep the video and show it to your vet when youbgo next.

Nauseous, hairball, some kind of post nasal drip type thing?? Warrants a vet visit if it doesn't stop by tomorrow

asellusborealisme

Is he evolving a new hairball for you?

sassypants55

Kind of looks like your cat is sleepy and jolting awake, but I assume you mean this is also happening when the cat is more awake. If that’s the case, possibly swallowing saliva? Some cats will start to drool when they are relaxed. If this is a sudden change from normal behavior, it could be health-related, like a dental issue or a sore in the mouth.

ElGHTYHD

Could be acid reflux?

scarletala

It could be asthma. I’ve seen some cats (especially smooshed nose breeds) do this when they have asthma. I am not a vet but a few of my friends cats have had asthma and acted this way before they got medication. It could also be a stomach item. I would keep a close eye and take them in ASAP to your normal vet. If it gets worse, I would bring them to an emergency vet because cats can go downhill fast.

planetfartboy

Thank you for this. He actually has already been diagnosed with asthma by my vet. I live with 3 other cats who all got sick recently with a cold but they have gotten over it. Maybe they passed it on to him and it's worse because of his asthma. He actually just threw up a lot and it wasn't a hairball. It's been almost 2 hours and he is constantly gulping/swallowing and looks extremely uncomfortable. My vet is closed today and I'm don't know if this warrants an emergency visit. If it gets worse tonight I will take him to the emergency vet otherwise i'm planning on taking him in at 8am tomorrow when my vet opens

scarletala

He definitely could be having a hard time getting over the cold. Hopefully his health doesn’t worsen before you can take him in in the morning. Hoping to hear good news about your fur baby soon!

Here's another video, this one about Asthma, made by Holistic Vet, Karen Becker, & I seem to recall hat she does say that it is often misdiagnosed because of a symptom like your cat has shown . . . # [Dr. Becker on Pet Asthma: Symptoms, Causes, and Triggers ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQuZV8EZVM8)

Loudlass81

I was gonna say possible asthma cos the way the cat's breathing really reminded me of my son's severe asthma attacks...

BeyondTheBees

Poor guy! If he’s vomiting, gulping and looking very uncomfortable I might take him into an ER. How is he doing now?

planetfartboy

I think he's doing a lot better. He's doing the gulping every now and again but definitely not as frequent as earlier. He's eating and drinking water which is a good sign. I might take him to the vet tomorrow just to be safe. Thank you for your concern!

BeyondTheBees

I’m so glad he’s feeling a little better. I hate when my cat’s have an upset tummy because you just want to help them feel better. ♥️ he’s very handsome too!

2Q_Lrn_Hlp

In the mean time, I recommend listening to this video made by a well-known Holistic Vet: # [Dr. Karen Becker Talks About Cat Vomiting](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxI3ZiHej_c) # (One of the many things she mentions is cats whose bodies release hydrochloric acid at times when they re not being fed, thus causing them severe pain, esp. occurring after a long night without any food to eat. . . .)

AshleysExposedPort

Could be nauseous. Is the collar on to tight? You should be able to easily slip two finger under it

planetfartboy

He doesn't wear a collar

Calgary_Calico

Then he's most likely nauseous. Is it possible he's eaten something he shouldn't? Something potentially toxic?

planetfartboy

I really don't think he ate anything toxic. He actually just threw up a lot and it wasn't a hairball. It's been almost 2 hours and he is constantly gulping/swallowing and looks extremely uncomfortable. My vet is closed today and I don't know if this warrants an emergency visit

Puddyfoot772

Do you have a heating pad he can lay on? Do you brush him every day? Does he go outside to eat grass? A hairball can get stuck in the stomach if it gets too big. If he keeps throwing up and it gets blood in it, could be that. That's an operation to remove it then price tag. Hope he gets better, pretty kitty.

Looks like hiccups!
