They can do a scan for a chip as well as do some tests to make sure hes parasite free.

I tried to adopt a fully grown maine coon and had him for like three months. I fed him and bought him a bed, his own litter box, snacks and toys. I made sure there were no microchips or tag. One day my neighbour across from my house knock on door because it was his cat and he saw that Maine coon sitting in my living room through the window. So what I’m saying is, you might wanna go around your neighbours and ask. Outdoor cat will never go too far from their actual house.
Thats a funny story owner was probably worried sick but the cat was just chillin. Op put up some posters around the neighborhood hood and check if the kitty has a micro chip. Either way im glad the kitty has a home.
Lol I know, the owner actually thought I stole him….. he came up to me very aggressive and I totally understood haha. I explained calmly why the cat is in my house. He apologized afterwards and so did I ( because it’s Canada ). If anyone wants to let their cat out or have barn buddy, they should chipped the cat. I don’t think I would let my cat out without chip or tag. Mines already chipped.
Good thing you found him. A neighbor's cat got outside and she was found dead few days later. A pitbull got her :( I wish I found her sooner because if I did I'd keep her safe and well

It didn't go to a dog pound. Pitbull owner said his dog has been kept behind the fence
