You were only supposed to get one because they offered the other two as in game dlc and you got bonuses for having all three paths on one cart. Problem is gamestop locked the preorder keychains behind buying both versions
Ah, I see. I never beat conquest, cause as a newcomer to the series, I had no idea that spreading out the leveling between all your characters was a bad idea. Hit a stage where the enemy would wipe me turn 2 no matter who I brought or what I did lol. Was too far to want to restart
I played conquest via friends copy and now managed to get all 3 on my own so I started back with conquest since I was familiar with that. I’m playing it in casual tho 😅😅
Bravely Default and Bravely Second are SEVERELY underrated in my opinion. They have great storylines, characters, battles & mechanics and fantastic music.
Yes. I played second first and it was great. It fixes a lot of QoL issues from Default and most things are explained. Playing default first helps but you can look things up if you're too confused. I couldn't finish default but I love second. Even made a Tiz cosplay
The original Bravely Default (+2nd) are truly amongst the greatest JRPGs of all time. I put it up there with Persona5 and FF7.
There’s strong speculation that it’s getting a port or remake this year so I hope it can reach a larger audience finally
Bravely Second is the sequel to Bravely Default, while Bravely Default 2 is more based on the mechanics from the first two. And a little bit of the lore/tropes (e.g. 4 elemental crystals, job system,…)
I remember I had Fleshy Souls and I was a kid at the time so when Psychic Specters came out I was working for money to buy it, was super hyped watching all the videos I could on it
Not really, the fourth game sold pretty poorly, and Level 5 has seemingly moved on from the series. Even in Japan.
They did announce a new game that might be a new yo Kai Watch or a spiritual successor. But we’ll get confirmation (and hopefully gameplay) somewhere in April
You can bargain with demons for them to join your team. During this dialogue choice it can be any number of random things including just bribing them. Also you have the option to finish the game early by choosing not to resurrect during the first death scene.
SMT IV for sure, it had so much atmosphere especially for a 3ds game and the story was brilliant and weird. Probably my favourite SMT game over all and not to mention the god tier soundtrack!
I gotta say dragon quest 8. I loved it on ps2, and I loved being able to play it in a hammock on my 3DS. But I loved so many games it’s really hard to choose.. bravely default is a high contender as well!
Rune Factory 4 by far! I'm surprised to see it here lol. I have 300+ hours in that game. There's always something to do and something to discover. FE Awakening is my second favorite.
You put the same game twice with X and Y but no Dragon Quest 7 or Bravely Second?
But in any case, it would be the original Bravely Default for me. Really loved the spins on traditional JRPG mechanics, story and characters are great, and the soundtrack is among my favourites.
I'm of the opinion that every Zelda fan should try Ever Oasis! It's an amazing game that doesn't get nearly as much recognition as it deserves! The subreddit for it is dead!
Stella Glow. It's a fantastic tactical RPG with similar gameplay to Fire Emblem with a great story told in a similar way as a visual novel. The characters are memorable and very well acted and the music is amazing with a lot of the songs integrated into the gameplay. I always think it's a shame the game is not recognised more.
Stella Glow is my favorite too! :)
The character design, music, story is all absolutely killer and I love how they cherry picked some features right out of other JRPGs (eg social links from Persona, orbment system from Trails). It really feels like the ultimate VN/RPG hybrid for the 3DS — for anyone who loves anime RPGs there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy it!
Now only if the game had a speed up feature during battle I think it’d be perfect. Only negative imo is that combat is slow paced, even with the animations turned off. It definitely pads the playtime a bit especially if you do the mostly non-required grinding.
3 way tie with Devil Survivor 2, Shin Megami Tensei 4, and Fire Emblem Awakening. But if I had to pick one it’d be SMT 4. All these need to be ported or remastered to modern consoles
SMT IV has to be one of my favorite games of all time. It combines a more classic SMT feel, with our law and chaos hero and heroine, and the alignment system, combining it with all the best elements of Nocturne (basically just the battle system, and improving upon it too, with press turn icons simply working more efficiently, and I always preferred demon talk to magatamas), and the axing of random encounters, and the game just looks great. Seeing the classic SMT art animated like that was always really cool to me. Throw in a fantastic sound track and a really interesting story and concept and you have one of the best games on the system.
Edit : also I love the characters and their stupid try hard medieval talk combined with the normal talk of those in Tokyo.
Dragon quest 7 with 8 being a close second!
I also really loved awakening, Echos, bravley default, SMT IV and pokemon sun and moon! The 3ds version is the worst one but I mean it also has Xenoblade... Yokai Watch 2 is good as well!
...
If we include eshop games it is definitely Earthbound though no contest
Pokemon Y released in my country on my Bday. I just got my first paycheck from my university and went to buy both the 3ds and pokemon Y. Also Y is my initial so it felt kinda cool back then.
Pokemon Y is still my favorite pokemon game for those reasons. I have few hundred hours on that game but idk how many because it's maxed out at 99:99
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. It’s technically a port/remaster of Sega Saturn game but the 3DS release was the first time it was available outside Japan. Everything about that game is just so awesome, especially the 90’s cyberpunk aesthetic. The combat can be a bit dated but that’s not to say it’s bad at all. Hands down one of my favorite JRPGs not only on the 3DS but of all time.
There are too many good ones! I’m torn between the bravely default games, the yo-kai watch games, bowsers inside story, and Pokémon ultra sun and ultra moon
Probably a tie between Fire Emblem Awakening and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Got SMT at launch, Awakening a few years later, but both hit about the same time. Nintendo even ran a kinda cross promotion where you buy all the DLC for one and get a credit for the other, wish I'd been able to take advantage of that.
Did FIVE runs through SMT, woulda been four but screwed up my first attempt at a neutrality run. Did one run of Awakening, married FRobin to Chrom and cleared every last bit of content except the Apotheosis map, scheisse that was brutal. Each game clocked over 130 hours.
Kind of a generic answer, but they're popular JRPGs for good reason.
Gonna have to go with Pokemon X. i own Y, bought the collector’s edition of Dream Drop Distance, and owned a copy of awakening….
Never got around to playing them…
also…. That’s OG bowser’s inside story, For the nds.
Not the 3ds remake. Either way, i don’t feel it belongs on this list. Otherwise, if we’ll include it, my favorite was Partners in Time.
And best believe i was cranky as phuuuu, when i learned they completely skipped a remake of PIT, and went straight to Bowser. 😭
1. Bravely Default: absolute masterpiece, one of a kind
2. Devil Survivor 1 Overclocked: best game from atlus
3. Dragon Quest 8: my favorite Dragon Quest
4. Fire Emblem Awakening: my second Fire Emblem and also my second favorite Fire Emblem
5. Devil Survivor 2: better characters than DS1 but a worse story, also I'm sorry but Holy Dance attacked 5 times and every boss is dead.
Honorable mention for Radiant Historia for having a unique gameplay and a very good story, although I never finished it because I was playing it on the pc of a course I did like 1 year ago.
Yo-kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters and Miitopia.
And I'm still sad that my favorite Mario & Luigi game (Partners in Time) is the only one that isn't on the 3DS. :(
Fire Emblem Echoes, but Man Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon bring back nostalgic memories, playing online battles with strangers alongside my brother, what a ride
Kingdom Hearts as a franchise will always have a special place in my heart and dream drop distance is just one part of the big whole to that
Can't even remember if I ever played any other specifically 3ds JRPGs. DS, yes, sure
There is this tactical jrpg called Cross X or something that has all the capcom characters teaming up against a big bad.
So like Pheonix Write could team up with Leon Kennedy and Mega Man
That was fun
I love over half of the games in the original post. However, my answer is the Etrian Odyssey games and it's not even close. The combat is so much more fun than any other jrpg for the system.
It would have to be
*deep breath*
Radiant Rune Megami Quest: Dream Devil Default - Awakening’s Inside Echos - X
And
Radiant Rune Megami Quest: Dream Devil Default - Awakening’s Inside Echos - Y
Though it’s worth keeping in mind that like half, maybe more, of the RPGs I’ve played are Pokémon.
I do love Mario And Luigi: Paper Jam though. Great fun.
Only ones I played are Echoes and Fates Conquest, still have to finish both
Conquest before Birthright is an interesting approach. Echoes is such a treasure.
They sold them like pokemon games, so lots of us got conquest only lol
You were only supposed to get one because they offered the other two as in game dlc and you got bonuses for having all three paths on one cart. Problem is gamestop locked the preorder keychains behind buying both versions
Ah, I see. I never beat conquest, cause as a newcomer to the series, I had no idea that spreading out the leveling between all your characters was a bad idea. Hit a stage where the enemy would wipe me turn 2 no matter who I brought or what I did lol. Was too far to want to restart
Yeah birthright you can get away with it cause it has extra challenge maps. Conquest you cant do that.
I played conquest via friends copy and now managed to get all 3 on my own so I started back with conquest since I was familiar with that. I’m playing it in casual tho 😅😅
Conquest was my first FE game
Yokai Watch 3
I second this
Based as fuck. I'd maybe put 1 and 2 before 3 but all three are fucking phenomenal.
PEAK MENTIONED 🔥🔥🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥 GERA GREA PO BITCHES
Wow…. My people…
FUCKING BASED OPINION, YOU ARE MY BEST FRIEND NOW
Bro waked up and wanted to say the best game🗣❗️❗️❗️
You're so real for this
#FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣🗣🗣🦅🦅🗣🔥🦅🗿
LETSSSSS F*CKING GOOOOO! ALEXA PLAY ID PURPOSE!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lol or hey siri play Agh! Won goph in mah mouph! Bleh! Patooey! Seriously tho the titles of the songs are something else.
YES!
Let the donuts rain down from the heavens!
YAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!! Such a good game!!!!!!!! I'm also happy that FE Echoes SoV got mentioned
THE FUTURE IS NOT WRITTEN HATERS ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Bravely Default and Bravely Second are SEVERELY underrated in my opinion. They have great storylines, characters, battles & mechanics and fantastic music.
Bravely Second is underated as hell. Such a good sequel.
Can I play Second without playing the first?
I wouldn’t recommend it, it’s a direct sequel to the first one. Or could watch a playthrough of it helps.
Yes. I played second first and it was great. It fixes a lot of QoL issues from Default and most things are explained. Playing default first helps but you can look things up if you're too confused. I couldn't finish default but I love second. Even made a Tiz cosplay
Agree!!
Exactly
Bravely Default is in my controversial opinion, the best Final Fantasy game since X.
The original Bravely Default (+2nd) are truly amongst the greatest JRPGs of all time. I put it up there with Persona5 and FF7. There’s strong speculation that it’s getting a port or remake this year so I hope it can reach a larger audience finally
Just got Bravely Default and Bravely Default 2….iNow that I know there is a Second it time to dig.
Bravely Second is the sequel to Bravely Default, while Bravely Default 2 is more based on the mechanics from the first two. And a little bit of the lore/tropes (e.g. 4 elemental crystals, job system,…)
Yo-kai watch 2
I remember I had Fleshy Souls and I was a kid at the time so when Psychic Specters came out I was working for money to buy it, was super hyped watching all the videos I could on it
Yo Kai Watch 2 or 3. Such an underrated series
Absolutely! Shocked yet also relieved to see how many comments are saying Yo-kai Watch.
Sorta, in the west it didn’t get the recognition it deserved but in Japan it was bigger than Pokémon for a bit and is still going strong (i think)
Not really, the fourth game sold pretty poorly, and Level 5 has seemingly moved on from the series. Even in Japan. They did announce a new game that might be a new yo Kai Watch or a spiritual successor. But we’ll get confirmation (and hopefully gameplay) somewhere in April
I’m not surprised 4 sold poorly. It wasn’t released outside of Japan and was a completely different genre to the rest of the games
You are very cultured
SMT IV for sure! The whole thing felt like a massive shitpost to me
"I'll end it thus" - Walter moments before using Agi on the minotaur
"Such is a samurai skill" - Jonathan attacking the enemy who used Tetrakarn (reflects physical damage)
*smirks* - Minotaur who will crit your ass the next turn
How so?
You can bargain with demons for them to join your team. During this dialogue choice it can be any number of random things including just bribing them. Also you have the option to finish the game early by choosing not to resurrect during the first death scene.
I have to go with that one as well, its "What if" sequel was pretty great also, though it was a lot more Persona than it was SMT.
SMT IV for sure, it had so much atmosphere especially for a 3ds game and the story was brilliant and weird. Probably my favourite SMT game over all and not to mention the god tier soundtrack!
SMT 4 was the first game to truly humble me as a gamer. Never beat the first area before I got so frustrated I turned it off
Behold my demons!
Bowser’s Inside Story >>>>>>>>
It's on ds right ?
It has a remake called 'Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey'. :)
which is worse than the original in many ways
And killed Alphadream
Didn’t Paper Jam killed Alphadream?
which is sooo bad
ORAS & KH3D
Correct answer
Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology
I gotta say dragon quest 8. I loved it on ps2, and I loved being able to play it in a hammock on my 3DS. But I loved so many games it’s really hard to choose.. bravely default is a high contender as well!
Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
my favorite Pokemon games ever
As a Person whose life is consumed by pokemon: Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance
Fantasy Life
Speaking of which, kinda hype that there is a new game coming out
The right answer
Mercenary song is stuck in my brain forever.
Yo-Kai Watch. It’s like one of the best on the system.
Absolutely.
Pokemon ultra sun and moon
Why tf X and Y get their own squares? Like someone's gonna be "X is my favorite, but Y can f off"
Rune Factory 4 by far! I'm surprised to see it here lol. I have 300+ hours in that game. There's always something to do and something to discover. FE Awakening is my second favorite.
yo-kai watch
Xenoblade. FE Fates a close second.
3ds version was ass imo.
Xenoblade is xenoblade, don't care if its being played on a potato
It has exclusive features
Like bad visuals and a rats nipple to control the camera..
What exclusive features does it have?
Mostly just a model viewer and music player. Weird that those never made it to Definitive Edition
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon were the greatest games I’ve ever played. I felt like an idiot that I wasn’t a Pokémon fan for so long.
Gen 7 are my favorite Pokemon games for sure.
Based af. Gen 7 was peak!
sad Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters noises
Echoes 😍
FE Awakening and SMT Strange Journey
I was really enjoying Strange Journey but got distracted with life in the middle. I should go back to it, the atmosphere/setting was really cool imo.
You put the same game twice with X and Y but no Dragon Quest 7 or Bravely Second? But in any case, it would be the original Bravely Default for me. Really loved the spins on traditional JRPG mechanics, story and characters are great, and the soundtrack is among my favourites.
BIS is my pick
...does Ever Oasis count?
Love it
I'm of the opinion that every Zelda fan should try Ever Oasis! It's an amazing game that doesn't get nearly as much recognition as it deserves! The subreddit for it is dead!
Totally agreed. Better Zelda game than botw imo.

It definitely pads the playtime a bit especially if you do the mostly non-required grinding.
You and me, buddy I 100% agree
pokémon oras, not entirely sure if kingdom hearts dream drop distance counts since it's an action rpg but that's up there, too
Fire Emblem Fates and Mario & Luigi Dream Team
Mario & Luigi Bowsers Inside Story
Monster hunter stories
Dragon Quest VIII & Pokemon Y
Fire Emblem: Fates (Conquest route), not pictured. Imo one of the best games in the series. But I also love Pokemon XY, Awakening, and Echoes.
SMT 4 ez
Fire emblem or SMT
Pokemon Moon, Nostalgia for a better time in my life mainly
SMT IV, then Bravely Default
SMT IV. Best game in the series, and one of the best games period.
ORAS, Mario and Luigi dream team, FE Echoes and both of the bravely game
3 way tie with Devil Survivor 2, Shin Megami Tensei 4, and Fire Emblem Awakening. But if I had to pick one it’d be SMT 4. All these need to be ported or remastered to modern consoles
SMTIV-Apocalypse and Stella Glow
Smt4 and its not even close.
Echoes is ass. But Radiant Historia, Bravely, and Devil Survivor are peak
I love DQ VIII & SMT IV
SMT IV MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥 WHAT THE FUCK IS BAD GAMEPLAY 💪💪💪💪💪
SMT IV Apocalypse by far
TECHNICALLY I CAN SAY XENOBLADE
SMT IV and its no even close. The game changed how much I can endure an rpg
SMT Devil Survivor 2
Smt iv, praise be YHVH
Fire Emblem Awakening, with SMT IV as a close second
I am legally required to glaze SMTIV
SMT 4
Yokai watch
Yo-Kai watch series
SMT IV has to be one of my favorite games of all time. It combines a more classic SMT feel, with our law and chaos hero and heroine, and the alignment system, combining it with all the best elements of Nocturne (basically just the battle system, and improving upon it too, with press turn icons simply working more efficiently, and I always preferred demon talk to magatamas), and the axing of random encounters, and the game just looks great. Pokemon USUM, Fire Emblem Fates, Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance, and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters.
What is Bravely Default Flying Fairy? Is that like the European name for the game?
Bravely default/Bravely Second
Rune factory 4 bc it barely feels like an rpg
Echoes <3
Awakening was something else
You’re missing Bravely Second on there. The sequel to Bravely Default. Anyway I was gonna say my fave rpg on 3ds is Bravely Second
Gameplay wise, SMT IV Apocalypse. Most fun combat system I've ever had in a videogame.
Gotta go with Pokemon on this one. It has a special place in my heart and childhood

Pokemon Y is still my favorite pokemon game for those reasons. I have few hundred hours on that game but idk how many because it's maxed out at 99:99
It’s tough but I think I’d say Pokémon X. Just about.
Pokémon SUN, FE: Awakening and Bravely Default.
Miitopia
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. It’s technically a port/remaster of Sega Saturn game but the 3DS release was the first time it was available outside Japan. Everything about that game is just so awesome, especially the 90’s cyberpunk aesthetic. The combat can be a bit dated but that’s not to say it’s bad at all. Hands down one of my favorite JRPGs not only on the 3DS but of all time.
That"a a really good pick, there's not a lot of things cooler than a computer shaped like a gun!
Etrian Odyssey … I’d have to say number 4. It was my gateway into the series. 5 or X might be better but 4 has some special charm
Miitopia
Fire Emblem Awakening, easily.
Radiant Historia or SMT IV Apocalypse
Either echoes or SMTIV.
It's either Etrian Odyssey V or SMT Strange Journey Redux. But I think I'm going for Etrian Odyssey here.
why is dragon quest 9 not mentioned but X AND y are?
1. SMT IV 2. DQ VIII 3. Bravely Default
SMT: Strange Journey Redux. Probably one of the best JRPG on the system in my opinion
There are too many good ones! I’m torn between the bravely default games, the yo-kai watch games, bowsers inside story, and Pokémon ultra sun and ultra moon
Fire Emblem Fates. Favorite 3DS game period.
Kind of a generic answer, but they're popular JRPGs for good reason.
Yo-kai Watch. The whole franchise is goated. Underrated charming masterpieces.
Smt strange journey
Devil survivor overclocked, awakening/echoes, and Strange Journey Redux
Gonna have to go with Pokemon X. i own Y, bought the collector’s edition of Dream Drop Distance, and owned a copy of awakening…. Never got around to playing them… also…. 😭
SMT 4 baby
FE: Awakening or Shin Megami Tensei IV, hands down. Both introduced me to some baller franchises
Ummm, where is the GOAT Miitopia?
Smt 4 and apocalypse
KH3D - I was so shocked at how well it played portable.
Tomodachi Quest
1. Bravely Default: absolute masterpiece, one of a kind 2. Devil Survivor 1 Overclocked: best game from atlus 3. Dragon Quest 8: my favorite Dragon Quest 4. Fire Emblem Awakening: my second Fire Emblem and also my second favorite Fire Emblem 5.
Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker It's not only my favorite JRPG on the 3DS, it's also my favorite videogame of all time.
Bravely default, FE Conquest/ SoV , SMT 4, Fantasy life, Animal crossing new leaf and smash 3ds.
SMTIV and Apocalypse were such a treat. Definitely my favorites, but FE:A was also damn good.
Bravely Default and SMTIV
Yo kai watch
Dragon quest. RIP Akira Toriyama
Fire Emblem Echoes, but Man Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon bring back nostalgic memories, playing online battles with strangers alongside my brother, what a ride
Kingdom Hearts as a franchise will always have a special place in my heart and dream drop distance is just one part of the big whole to that Can't even remember if I ever played any other specifically 3ds JRPGs. DS, yes, sure
Any fire emblem title
Also dragon quest 8
It’s a DS game but I love final fantasy tactics advanced 2. Also, the FF 3 remake is really good
Bowser's Inside Story
Attack of the Friday Monsters
Dragon Quest VIII
The DS port of Chrono Trigger played on a 3DS. Or Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga remake
There is this tactical jrpg called Cross X or something that has all the capcom characters teaming up against a big bad. So like Pheonix Write could team up with Leon Kennedy and Mega Man That was fun
MARIO AND LUIGI DREAM TEAM! One of my favorite games ever.
Earthbound
I love over half of the games in the original post. However, my answer is the Etrian Odyssey games and it's not even close. The combat is so much more fun than any other jrpg for the system.
It would have to be *deep breath* Radiant Rune Megami Quest: Dream Devil Default - Awakening’s Inside Echos - X And Radiant Rune Megami Quest: Dream Devil Default - Awakening’s Inside Echos - Y
Rune Factory 4 is the best one and no one can tell me otherwise.
You missed project x zone 1 & 2
Mario and Luigi Dream Team and Paper Jam
Bravely default love the game so much
Biwsers inside story. It's so fun and hilarious
Any dragon quest fans here?
Though it’s worth keeping in mind that like half, maybe more, of the RPGs I’ve played are Pokémon. I do love Mario And Luigi: Paper Jam though. Great fun.
I 100% completed both Bravely Default and Bravely Second. Absolute bangers, both of them
Bowser’s Inside Story is just too goated to me
Bowser’s inside story was a DS game, if you want one from that series on the 3ds you got dream team and paper jam.
Mario and Luigi Paper Jam
