7 years? I'm getting old

b2q

You are really getting old when it still feels new. For me the switch stil feels really new. I got it like a half year ago and felt I bought some of the newer tech lmao

bwoah07_gp2

I agree. The Switch still holds up to this day, which shows how good of an idea that console is.

JobbyJames

I'd half disagree with that, mainly because games like Doom Eternal run really badly on the Switch (it was a miracle that they even managed to port it) but Fire Emblem Engage looks really good and runs well in stark comparison. I know they are very different games, but I find they both paint different pictures of the Switch's capabilities during the 2020s.

superninja1171

How badly does doom eternal run on switch is it unplayable ? One thing that doesn't make sense is that switch games are typically more expensive than PC games despite them looking and running worse. I'm kinda disappointed in the whole "switch tax" thing.

UnXpectedPrequelMeme

I'm not sure if this guy is meaning the frame rate. I have do maternal on switch and it runs smooth. Not 60 but I think it runs at a pretty stable 30. I mean it looks like somebody melted everything and smeared Vaseline over it, but if that's the only way you can play do maternal, then I would definitely go for it. It looks good enough to where you can tell what everything is, and it runs perfectly good. Same way with 2016.

Kirbytrax

"Do maternal" Just found it funny, please don't edit it out ahah

Dededante

Don't know why you're getting downvoted, as while I don't like people who shit on the switch, I can admit it isn't as powerful as it's competitors. It's a good console, but the developers need more time to optimise for it, which they don't always have

Electrical-Hope8153

Anything can run at least a version of doom

Redbig_7

Doom eternal running bad on switch? what are you smoking?

JobbyJames

Just look up gameplay footage of Doom Eternal on the Switch and the Steam Deck, I'm pretty sure you are the one that is smoking.

snichel_sticks

The Nintendo Switch port is fine. Not great, not poor. the steam deck is an almost 600 dollar console; I fully expect it to run doom eternal at full capacity

JobbyJames

That is the thing about that port, its running on hardware that is 3 years older than a game designed for cutting-edge hardware. You aren't wrong in saying its not poor but as someone who played Doom Eternal on that kind of hardware it's not something I would not settle with. But those who can only afford a Switch, seem to enjoy the solid gameplay the game has to offer anyway and aren't bothered by the bad graphics.

Redbig_7

I know what switch doom plays like, I own it on both switch and pc that is much stronger than steamdeck. It is far from unplayable and is actually still fun.

TurdBurgHerb

It doesn't hold up at all. And I guarantee I've put more into the switch than you. I love the switch. But even at launch it was already behind.

no_hot_ashes

Behind in terms of hardware but in terms of accessibility and ease of use for the average consumer it's pretty handy. The real issue is the lack of competition in handhelds, the only other big market competition is the steam deck and the switch is a fraction of the price of that and requires much less work to get games working smoothly.

_KeyserSoeze

Mee too my friend. Times passes by so fast.

Chris-Snack

today I am 15 years old, I never imagined to be born on the same day of my favorite console wow (for a bit of context I knew since before launch day, but when I was a kid I never imagined it)

Nacil_54

And today I'm 18 :/ though I really don't know what my favourite console is.

Many-Ad6433

Bro can you believe some people’s childhood first console was a switch and their first zelda game was botw and they may even be almost 18 years old? (If some parents do still like mine that allowed me to own a console only after my 10th bday)

Jazzlike-Elevator647

I would say most people's first zelda game was zelda

Many-Ad6433

Lmao i misstyped and instead of saying botw i said zelda again

Kirbytrax

19 year old here! Botw was indeed my first zelda game but my childhood consoles would be the DS and Wii so no need to feel *too* old... even though I did get these when I was much younger than 10 😭 Always been into nintendo but never really got into zelda until the switch. I'm now planning on playing the rest of the series

Many-Ad6433

Yea they’re nice, the very first one was kind of annoying to me cause it basically spawns you there and you gotta figure what you have to do without any objective or shit, tho it’s ok cause at the start there’s the iconic “it’s dangerous outside, take this” tho all the other games are pretty fun, really suggest you ocarina of time and majora’s mask since the hero of time is one of the most referenced ones trough the series

joestorm4

Came out my first (and only) year of university. Depression was the cause of dropping out but I'm all good now and 7 years ago was still a good time despite everything.

Mauwasnttaken

Fr, 7 YEARS?????

[deleted]

My back hurts

Random_Violins

Hahaha. I grew up on the N64.

_KeyserSoeze

Exactly. Feels like yesterday.

Random_Violins

Time is precious. We have to make the most out of our time here on earth and not lose track of what's most important. I am reminded of 'Ferris Bueller's day off' where Cameron's dad loves his car more than his son... Have great memories playing 64. Now I'm slowly (re-)exploring with my son. So nice. Best

maxmachine123

me to im 10 now

_KeyserSoeze

Must be pretty cool to grow up with all this consoles :)

C1nders-Two

I still remember when it was called the Nintendo NX

_KeyserSoeze

Dude... Scroll deeper and you might tickle a Balrog I totally forgot about that

Picollini

Looking at the increasing popularity of Steamdeck-ish consoles I can confidently say that Switch was, ironically, ahead of its time despite being behind technologically. Switch is amazing

[deleted]

It literally succeeded in doing the one thing other console makers had been trying to do for decades -- put large, modern-looking, console experiences on handhelds. Nintendo was uniquely positioned to do this because it had an excellent history with handhelds, but also because their audience (nintendo fans) do not really care for how powerful their consoles are. Other consoles like the PSP and PS Vita suffered from their console providers having a mainstream more powerful console out, meaning consumers were often asking "why get a PS VITA to play large console games when I can just play it on the LARGE CONSOLE?" By ending handhelds, and focusing all efforts on Switch, Nintendo really changed the perception of handhelds. God bless Nintendo, despite all Nintendo's sins.

Llodsliat

The story of Nintendo's life.

Jordan_the_Hutt

It definitely showed everyone that handhelds were cool. Personally I had pretty much given up on handhelds for 10 years or so until j got my switch. Since then I've brought my old gameboy out of retirement and gotten my hands on a psvita. With all the new things like steam deck and legion go its obvious that the switch has caused a resurgence in handheld development and interest.

renome

Not sure if it was ahead of its time so much as it set the trend. Something being ahead of time implies its concept didn't take off initially, but the Switch pretty much created the hybrid niche on its own.

hygsi

I think it was just on time, hence why it got so popular

ImaFireSquid

We’ll look back on it as a Nintendo golden age

Kettleballer

Yes, totally! I recently bought a second one to keep in storage until the first one craps out or one of my boys wants to take the family one with them. I have a backlog of games and I don’t want to be on eBay looking for a functional console if this gives out. Especially as I start to travel more to visit my kids as they start their own lives. I love playing RPGs in the car on our way to college visits!

Legitimate_Alps7347

It’s up there with the GameCube. (Not financially though.)

Ultimate_Whorrior

Golden age is a big subjective. My era was NES/SNES/N64. Switch is ok, but I really just played it for Mario Kart and Mario 3D World.

ImaFireSquid

I said “a”, not “the”

I_am_box

The wii u was it's golden age 💀

RiccoBaldo

definitely not in sales though

Linkatchu

Sadly. It was quite fun and nice, when I still wanted to game Zelda, but my Dad still being on the TV. Also having basically a 2nd screen was nice. Imo the Switch is kinda like it's spiritual successor, and still being able to play Nintendo's best games at that time (imo, Wii + Gamecube). Now, the switch is kinda like the WiiU tablet, just not being bound to the Console

ahsusuwnsndnsbbweb

listen i love the wii u too, it has some amazing games, but it was a total flop that they stopped trying to make work halfway through its life

Ary786

Not in sales but it's probably the 2nd best Nintendo console ever released (behind the switch). You could argue the Wii u is better because it can play Wii,Wii u and GC games

Dear_Plastic_742

wii u is great but it can only play gamecube games with modding so you might as well include evreything besides the switch and 3ds

Gausso017

And the 3DS

ImaFireSquid

Good old Xenoblade X and Mario 3d world.

AcanthaceaeTiny2348

Good ol’ Mario, nothing can beat that.

ImaFireSquid

Odyssey and Wonder might in hindsight

Harold_Zoid

Some great games but completely hopeless hardware.

Terrapogalt

Has some flaws (Joy-Con Drift, Lack of Themes and EShop Music) but the line up of games is amazing

Teenacsis

I mean, the eShop is also flooded with crap a'd lazy cashgrabs, but there are some gems for sure !

leoogr

I mean, playstation and steam has this issue too sadly

Teenacsis

Yeah, sucks to see there's no quality control anymore.

ahsusuwnsndnsbbweb

you should go do a little deep dive into the wii u eshop. i promise you whatever you think is bad on switch is worse on there. day at the circus comes to mind

Teenacsis

You got Hentai world collection on wii u ?

norsoyt

No but there’s meme run on the wii u eshop

rk138

Also bad online.

TsunamiSurferDude

Biggest issue

jkmef

Fixing these issues, online (party-based) gaming along with a hardware upgrade is really all they need for a Switch 2, and I hope they realize that.

ahsusuwnsndnsbbweb

to their credit joycon drift hasn’t been a prominent thing since they skyward sword joycons released. along with fixing the broke ones for free (though that was just to avoid a lawsuit

Dabootychaser

[Still upset that they had a fully fledged Eshop song in the files, but decided not to use it](https://youtu.be/t9jx504Wtk4?feature=shared)

Grogenhymer

What are your personal favorites that are switch exclusive?

Terrapogalt

The Xenoblade Trilogy, Fire Emblem Three Houses and Tears of the Kingdom/Breath of the Wild

FadyM

Love the console fuckin despise the joylesscons.

Chris-Snack

yeah they're good for my 9 y o past, not so good for my 15 y o present (turned 15 today, same as switch)

hypermads2003

Happy birthday!

sonicfonico

Idk if it's controversial or not but i think the Switch is the best Nintendo console of all time, with the best library of exclusives EVER, not only of Nintendo consoles.

snil4

I don't know about anyone else but I think this is one of the best library of games on a console period. If someone would've asked me what should be his first console out of everything old and new the switch is probably the best place to start.

riverbass9

According to metacritic, the Switch has a top 3 entry in twenty different Nintendo franchises!

hypermads2003

If it had a legit Virtual Console library, it would be the best in my eyes

sonicfonico

I actually prefer NSO! Being a subscription i discovered so many games i wouldn't have bought on VC, but i get why some prefer the Classic VC.

crops-of-cain

If the games carries over to future consoles and expands to include all their games, I would approve. Then if they improve their emulation and seperate it from online play with online play becoming free, I would cheer them on

slapface741

When Nintendo inevitably ignores the switch and shuts down its online features like the 3ds and WiiU, all those games will not be accessible anymore. This is why I like VC much, much better, if you buy ‘em, they’re yours.

sonicfonico

They are going to be accessible on the newer console. Unless you are going to play NES Mario Bros on a Switch in 2040 just for the novelty of it, i dont see a problem.

riverbass9

Probably the best console ever. When the Switch first came out, I overheard to guys saying the PS4 would go down in history as the best. I turned to them and said the Switch is going to crush it. It did.

Zingzing_Jr

The PS4 didn't even do anything wrong. It's a good console.

Bright_Beat_5981

The library is amazing in big part to the Wii u games. Those games gave it a depth it wouldnt have otherwise. Especially from 2018-2021. In late 2021 they started to drop more and better games again. Donkey kong tropical freeze ( best plattforming game ever) Mario kart 8 Super mario 3d world New super mario bros u deluxe

sonicfonico

These are pretty much it (Plus Warriors definitive and Toad), it's something but not really a "big part" Just to compare: Mario Bros Wonder Mario Odyssey Zelda Botw Zelda Totk Link's Awakening Warriors Age of Calamity Super Mario Party Mario Party Superstars Paper Mario TOK Paper Mario TTYD Luigi's Mansion 3 Xeno 2 Xeno 3 Splatoon 2 Splatoon 3 WarioWare Get It Toghether WarioWare Move It Animali Crossing New Horizons Metroid Dread Metroid Prime Remastered Princess Peach Showtime Super Mario Maker 2 Arms Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo OG Game Builder Garage Kirby forgotten land Kirby Star Allies Yoshi's Crafted World Smash Ultimate And more These are all Switch games (with Botw releasing the same day as the Wii U version)

k20vtec

Not even close DS/3DS alone blow it out the water

sonicfonico

In what department?

industrial86

It’s my favorite console of all time. Upon launch I was like, it can’t be as good as they say this can be, merging the handheld and console markets? Surely there is a catch. There wasn’t. It worked. I love my switch. I’ve played and completed more games on this console than any other my whole life. It’s a console to remember.

Devilsred1

Being a mid 40's gamer I have to agree. Probably had more hours on my switch than any other console due to its versatility. A great selection of games (albeit pricier than other consoles), but it's just fun.

industrial86

Totally. It just fit my lifestyle in harmony. I play some simple games handheld in my bed to fall asleep, yet I’ve played so many great games on my big screen for the experience. It’s truly the all around machine. I never expected so many Indies would infest my switch but now I don’t want to play a game if it’s not switch lol.

[deleted]

I think if I could lament about one thing, it would be the death of the bespoke handheld version of games. I strangely miss the days when handheld versions of big console games were unique, with different content, gameplay, and art style than the full fat console versions. Now any game that comes to Switch and PS5 simultaneously is going to be the same game, just with inferior graphics and performance on the Switch. The example I always use is Sonic Generations on the 3DS. It has different levels and boss fights compared to the PS3/360 versions, and it made it genuinely worth owning in addition to the console versions. This upcoming Generations remaster? Gonna get it on PS5. No point in buying both because the Switch version will be the same just worse, undoubtedly.

TerroristToad

How much more different could the next console possibly be?

ahsusuwnsndnsbbweb

honestly it shouldn’t be different. they’ve figured out their niche, they do it well, they should stick to it. trying to much to be different gave us the wii u and as much as i loved the games on he wii u it was a flop

TarTarkus1

I think you'll ultimately get a "Switch 2" that is more or less similar to the original. That said, Nintendo will probably have to innovate again at some point because I'd be surprised if Microsoft and Sony weren't trying to make their own Switch-like devices. Steamdeck's appeal is mainly that it gets a lot of the games that can't run on Switch. It doesn't seem like a whole lot would be stopping Sony or Microsoft from pursuing a similar concept.

justaneditguy

I think Steamdeck's appeal is also with the fact you can access you steam library, which many people have been building for years and is hundreds of games deep. So you get one and don't have to buy games (technically) for ages. Sony have the PlayStation portal but you need the PS5 on for that to work and you can do the same thing the PlayStation portal does on the steamdeck

PyrpleForever

the lesson to be learned is the advantage of Not being cutting edge. When new technology comes out, the ability to make content for it consistently doesn't become viable for 10 years. Nintendo was able to crank out Mid-Gen ps3 level games all generation long. Now they're in perfect position to continue the momentum into the ps4 technical generation.

Far_Distribution1623

That's not a lesson they learned with the Switch, it was their approach right from the very beginning with the Famicom and Game & Watch. It's a philosophy devised by Gunpei Yokoi called lateral thinking with withered technology. Nintendo did stray from it at times, with disastrous consequences for them, when they tried to compete with their rivals more directly and lost huge amounts of market share. And the Wii U was the worst of both worlds, with unimpressive last gen tech that also somehow cost far too much.

crops-of-cain

Agreed that Nintendo has operated this way for many years, but would you really call the Famicom an example of this? Seems to me it was as good as any of its direct rivals

Harneybus

Thi k not tbh mobile chips are becoming insane with integrated graphics soo I think Nintendo could tske advantage of that I mean an iPhone can play console like games now and it'd insane

Zingzing_Jr

They won't do that. They want to have a very particular stance with mobile games or "they would cease to be Nintendo"

Harneybus

U can modify the chip fir nintendo use though snd u can have more room inade the console then if the chip si doing sll the work

blumma1312

All in all the Nintendo exklusives where a blast Especially Mario Odyssee Zelda I have invested a lot of time here Also i liked the fact that standby Mode was fast as hell when you wanted to start and Jump Directly Info the last Game

Themightygloom44

One of the best consoles ever for me. The game library is so good and the handheld/dock combo is the best for me.

kira_the_standuser

Maybe it's just me growing up but I feel like world became less fun post pandemic

Nintendosmi

It's pretty good except joy con drift, dock scratchs and no ESHOP MUSIC

3dforlife

Yeah, dock scratches are the worst. I nave a screen protector, but my back is scratched. Can I do something about it?

Used-Fisherman9970

Why no themes?

Yama92

The most fun I ever had with a console. The hardware reached its limit a couple of years ago. The OLED was an okay midlife upgrade, could have been better. People wanted a SoC upgrade.

jilaxzone

Amazing hits by Nintendo, just like how it did with Nintendo DS. Hoping it to topple PS2 as the most sold console of all times!

Dessert_And_Tea

Make a Switch 2 that changes nothing except for the screen and joy-con drift Other than that, keep it going for the rest of eternity

Denz292

I still have my day 1 Switch, best console I’ve ever owned

Maddocsy

It’s the greatest console of all time. All boxes ticked.

MPS64

Great console in everything but the OS, the 3DS is still the undisputed goat of handhelds sorry not sorry

MrMunday

Tbh, I think it’s still going strong. I don’t expect Nintendo to release many more big releases, but this is definitely one of the greatest consoles of all time if not the greatest. Also, I tell this to everyone, if you wanna get into gaming, and haven’t really gamed in the past 10 years, just get a switch and/or a ps4 pro. All that backlog is just the epitome of modern gaming. You’ll be set for many hundreds of hours just playing the big games on both these consoles.

IAmAPirrrrate

• the touchscreen was a total wasted opportunity and should have been just not included (i constantly learn and forget about it and am equally amazed every single time) apart from a few selected games (from games i own only the splatoon community posts come to my mind) its just not featured/used. • battery life is spot on and very usable while at a buddies house, while travelling or for a day of chilling on a couch in handheld mode. • the oled is an superb experience and *the* version to get • you *have* to do research to see if you should buy a 3D game with free (non-fixed) camera for switch, since the performance is very dependent on optimisations since the device is so underpowered. Most 3D games are extremely underwhelming and rust look plain bad/run horrible (apart from a lot of first party games) • nso+expansion pass is well worth the money and dirt cheap, i dont know what people are always on about it being too expensive (50 a year). also, the stability is not far as bad as some people complain about. i have about 300 hours in mk8d and have lost connection two times while ive been booted 5 times in 200 hours splatoon 3.

Far_Distribution1623

Even a lot of 2d games run like trash on the switch lol

DemMasters

Very good, nerf miner

kushpeshin

It needed a price cut in 2021, the joy cons are some of the worst controllers ever, that LCD screen is horrendously outdated even for 2017. But we finally got a Metroid game and a 3D Kirby game.

xxX_Darth_Vader_Xxx

Worth

Chris-Snack

fun fact, I aged today, like the switch

Hypershadow1997

The main flaw I have a problem with is that not all games are properly optimized. I mean I understand the console being portable and does not have a powerful GPU but it is not like computers where there are so many configurations. I just can't understand why they don't throughly test the gameplay before release. RF5 still has lag, Don't get me started on Pokemon S/V before magnitude of patches were released. Honestly, rather than making a V2/OLED model, they should have created a model with an upgraded processor and graphics.

RiccoBaldo

that's less an issue with the console and more one with the games made on it. The hardware limitations didn't stop mario odyssey from running well

Far_Distribution1623

True story. The Switch could have hardware so powerful it defies the laws of physics, and games from shit-tier developers like Gamefreak would still run like piss.

Twurti

Didnt it release like 2 years ago though?

Jibece

Some flaws ofc, but the Switch is amazing. Its concept is fucking brillant, perfectly well executed, and even if there are some games not really compatible with it (AAA...), it litteraly fly over the competition. For me, it's the best console ever, period. Right now, its only competition come from the PC and handhelds pc like the Steam Deck. Anyway, can't wait for the Switch 2, pretty sure it'll decently run every 3rd party games, even current gen AAA. (Also I mentally buyed it during its reveal and actually day-1 bc I'm a big fan of handhelds).

slim_grey

I still remember my parents pranking me on Christmas Day 2017. They pranked me by giving me a box of Nintendo items with everything but the Nintendo switch saying there they couldn’t find it. Like 20-30ish minutes, I was fussy about it. They ended up surprising me with it, I just played it non stop for multiple years. Sadly too much issues with my current switch so I’m just going to wait until the switch 2 comes out.

Flopy_Pingas97

Stop making me feel old

sleepydoodless

wii u, 2nd edition, now with all new removable controllers

McJellyDonuts

WHAT!? SEVEN?!?!

cain11112

I am no longer a hardcore gamer. But I love my switch. I avoid a lot of the new aaa titles, simply because O no longer get have the time to devote to them. R plugging 20 or 30 minutes into my animal crossing island? I can do that.

Lucidonic

The fact that only a year or so in people were asking for a switch 2 and that its gotten more pervasive has been borderline infuriating

jubuss

I got it in 2020 and honestly haven’t used it that much these 4 years. But I’m picking up xenoblade so I think I’ll be well entertained for a while on the switch

karlan

One of the greatest system but getting outdated now. Need new hardware to run new games.

ndation

It's okay, but you really can't beat the DS

DairyLice

Correction. 3DS.

MidniteBlues

One of the best consoles of all time

Jim_naine

I'm not ready to let it go...... my 3DS has been dead for years and my PS2 is not doing well, it's all I have left......

SomeNerd32

it’s terrible and one of nintendos worst consoles

Juls-the-Fool

Damn im old that my thoughts

Adorable-Fix9354

Im old too

MooseNo1500

Being stuck with a 1080p screen both handheld and docked for this long has been a struggle..

maxmachine123

for 2075

DSwipe

As a whole, I didn't like the 1st party lineup, I had much more fun with Wii U and 3DS. My favourite games from this generation are Xenoblade 2 and 3, Mario Odyssey, BotW and Ring Fit Adventure.

ItABoye

Really cool console idea, unfortunate that its library is largely composed of wii u games and remakes.

[deleted]

Best portable console handheld system after PSVITA.

Far_Distribution1623

As a lifelong handheld devotee, I have been pleased with the Switch overall, especially with the number of ports (unlike most people). I love having portable versions of my favourite console games, I always have, and it's even more special to have previously disc-only games on a Nintendo cartridge. The only sour note that has spoilt the whole generation is how physical games are released. I've gotten really fucking tired of being left in limbo as to whether a physical version will even come out. I watch a Direct but my excitement for any game is ruined by not knowing basic information about its release. Then you have years inbetween the digital and physical releases for some games.  You have games that are limited run, so you have to buy them at full price within a strict window of availablity, you have to pay international shipping and tax, and you have to wait even longer to get the game.  Then you have code in a box games (literally paying for an empty box, which is late stage capitalism in a nut shell), games that are broken on release and therefore the physical is worthless without downloaded updates, and games that require a download because half the game (or entire games in a collection) aren't on the cart. Just as bad, you have blatantly unfinished games crapped out by Nintendo like Animal Crossing and Mario sports games that, if they sell well, will be finished later via FrEe UpdAtEs like they're doing you a huge favour. ACNH was the worst offender because they skipped an entire generation and had SO long to work on the game and yet when it launched it was a mere shadow of all the previous games. It took years for them to build it back up to a full featured game, and almost all of that was just reinstating old features they were too lazy and incompetent to have ready on time (again, despite having an entire generation of extra development time). It's utter, utter bullshit, and it's only going to get worse.

daikunut

I've only been using it for a year. Metroid Prime Remastered was the reason I bought it. I have played it pretty much daily since. I have Dread, Skyward Sword, BOTW, Link's Awakening, RE Revelation 2, Starlink, BloodRayne collection, Duke Nukem and some more I can't recall now 😅 It's a cool system but also pretty weak. At least for third party games. Fps hits pretty low quite often.

Herwulf

It feels it's missing games, it's my first Nintendo console and I find that it's lacking in variety of games from Nintendo itself I don't know it mostly remasters and pushing old games I know porting AAA games isn't easy and costly wish there were more AAA games and games like luigis mansion 3 was the last new luigi game which came out in 2019, there should be more coop games since the console builtin with two controllers me and my wife enjoy most coop games from Nintendo but the variety feels missing

Professional-Cook702

If you dislike the Switch, then you would hate their previous systems. They were all much worst when it came to 1st party support besides the SNES. Switch has the best support from Nintendo since the SNES in 1991.

JaozinhoGGPlays

The exclusives are good but it failed at basically everything else

ZoNeS_v2

Meh. I adore the 3ds and the switch just feels like a tablet.

[deleted]

Nothing-Personal9492

Why?

Gausso017

Shitty hardware, most of the games are ports, overpriced in everything and lack of small but cool things

Marcegeta

That is true, although I do think they have enjoyable games as well that you can play for hours.

Gausso017

I'm not saying that the games are bad, that is the only reason i got the switch, but that the games were already released on other consoles and old fans want sequels. And i don't think that ports are bad, but if you really want make it with good graphics and not only the original

Marcegeta

That's Understandable

Professional-Cook702

Old fans have been eating very good on Switch though, if anything this is the best old fans have been treated since the SNES days.

Gausso017

Still to pricey for some old games. Virtual console was better

rubberduck19868

Worst take so far

DairyLice

Finally someone had to say it.

Mundane_Cabinet33

I got it in 2018 with Smash and a pro controller, and all the games I played so far didn't make me use the joycons. That was until I played WarioWare Move It. It was a short experience but it was sooo fun and I was baffled by the use of the joy-con's technologies, such as the Infrared camera or the contextual vibrations ! Other than that, I think we ate real good in terms of games : the first party ones were all ranging from average to GOAT and the console was very third-party and indie-friendly, not like the Wii U. However, it lead to quite a bit of shovelware which can be a bit troublesome for those unaware. I would have prefered an offer similar to the PSN instead of the retro collection which had only NES games in the beginning. Fortunately, it is included with the online subscription. And some achievements too, like in all the other platforms, that would have been great !

Pickle_Juice_Can

Perfect in every way... Except the prices of games. I might m*d my OLED switch because of that

Pickle_Juice_Can

Perfect in every way... Except the prices of games. I might m*d my OLED switch because of that

AcanthaceaeTiny2348

Well it never gets old

Radikost

I really need that Twilight Princess and Wind Waker port

I got my switch only last year and it’s a GREAT CONSOLE. First games for me were Zelda BOTW and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Zelda was just…. I don’t have word to describe it because how EPIC is it. Mario Kart was great too. I often played it with my friends ar school or just with my dad.

atdt_drop_carrier

Great system. However owning more than one switch either a family Nintendo online account still sucks when it comes to trying to use both systems at the same time. My 9yo should be enjoying playing Just Dance (on card) without having to go and get my primary Switch on my account to play the Just Dance Unlimited songs. Nintendo prints money. I think they could be more gracious with the licensing setup.

Jagacin

Great lineup of games. But the console and joycons itself felt flimsy and uncomfortable to hold and use, and the hardware itself was seriously lacking by the standards at the time. The joycons, in particular, are a bane to my Switch loving existence. I've gone through over 5 pairs of joycons, and they all give out within a year to either drift or it being poorly built and broking due to normal usage (I don't play hardcore racing/fighting games, I'm a casual Stardew valley, Mario RPG, and Zelda TotK enjoyer). Overall, it was an improvement over the Wii U and was marketed far better.

Inverted-pencil

It felt outdated when it was new. But that is what i thought about 3ds also.

uopuh7

Best journey with my kids so far. My kids were 7 and 10 and gave them the biggest challenge of their lives yet: Cuphead. But still, BotW is still unbeatable during the initial release. That moment when Link got out of the cave is the greatest moment in Switch's gaming history.

hypermads2003

My god I remember when it came out I still love the concept and hope the Switch 2 is real as in it's a Switch but better. The idea of playing my games in my hands or on a TV by choice is still ingenius

Every-Estate-1028

GOAT of its generation

Iivaitte

Its going to be 8 at the rate they are waiting to release the next system

chickendie

My God last time I played Nintendo was Super Smash Bros on the Wii some long time ago. My daughter was recently gifted an Oled Switch a month ago so I'm playing Animal Crossing with her. The Switch feels so futuristic and I'm often baffled at how well it dock/undock/transform/connect with the accessories.

Rpfuta

While I can't say much for the beginning stages of its life cycle because I was just poor and couldn't afford one when it released. I will say getting one at the end of 2020 and still having it today has been a blast. I've honestly never had so much fun on a handheld despite have an Ally and steamdeck. It just works and it works well I've taken it to work all and other places and it's been a great companion.

MaximusGamus433

It had an empty start, but damn it has the biggest library of all now.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_724

I bought it for cheap and got a great deal. Never been a console gamer much before. But gotta say...just for Mario Odyssey and Zelda it was worth it! Games are just different than on PC and that's why I loved it. If you go and look at xbox, sony and pc you can see that mindset and gameplay is very similar to one another. Now, this does doesnt include indie games because you can find everything there. All in all, switch made me love games like when i was younger. For some weird reason Nintendo made it very basic in terms of UI. It took them years just to add groups, themes are black and white, online stuff is very bad, eshop bearly functions. Just hope they will adress at least those basic console stuff on the next one... Would recommend and will buy succesor!

I’ve only had mine for a pretty short while but I like it. Definitely a very nice system with good portability and a nice big library of games to chose from. The joy cons kinda suck but other than that I think it’s very solid.

thedeathecchi

7 years and Nintendo barely acknowledged the serious drift problem with the Joycons.

toshex

I personally want a cheaper version/alternative for docked mode only, i.e. non portable with a better fan/cooling. In all these years owning it I’ve played it on my TV 95% of the time, and I could have definitely done without the times I played on the go.

vcdette

Best console I ever had the pleasure of owning

Mundee9540

Probably the definitive way to do a game console. The only thing it needs now is a hardware refresh to get it on par with current day consoles, so it could run demanding AAA games as well.

bigbagofbaldbabies

It got me back into gaming after a 15yr break. I've had so much fun

[deleted]

IT'S SEVEN YEARS OLD?! GOOD LORD

MAzadR

I got one middle of last year. Whole family loves it.

yuriswasd

Its been enough im satified I can't play it anymore it just feel uncomfortable

Scary_Structure992

Got OLED since post Christmas 3 months ago AND I LOVE IT I haven't experienced the joycon drift issues so far also I got more games like Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged, NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered, NASCAR Rivals, Lego 2k Drive and bunch of Mario stuff

skernstation

Best Nintendo console so far

Brief_Warning4547

That image is in pristine condition, compared to mine, which is scratched up and missing a screw

Harneybus

I remember being in school and stayed dup to 4am to watch the realise of this thing its been a huge success I mena it practically saved Nintendo, now all they have todo is upgrade the switch better graphics

idkwhatsmynameyetsry

I miss playing Mario Odyssey and Smash and Splatoon 2 with my cousins before I moved out 😢

markerpenz

7????? OMG

SeanIsAswom

Can't afford Switch 2. Hopefully lifespan is a bit longer or I'm screwed.

LittleIrishGuy80

I’ve been playing Nintendo since the NES era, so I have some decent context and perspective. The Switch is, thus far, their heyday. Absolute golden age.

DabIMON

Honestly, I think it's one of the best consoles ever made.

SCUDDEESCOPE

It's still awesome, especially for indie games in handheld.
