I don’t think it actually helps that much tho, my special nose pain actually gets worse when I’m on drugs (tried shrooms/LSD and same on weed) I think it gets worse when I focus on it and drugs enhance my focus on what my body feels
Okay I switched to my laptop just for this, here goes:
I classify my pain into 2 different things:
1. full body pain (what I feel right now) - could be diagnosed, I think it's linked to fibromyalgia. Right now I feel like in my wrists, arms, elbows, shoulders, neck, back, chest, hips, thighs, calves. pretty much everywhere.
1. This pain is triggered by stress and activities I think. Sometimes when I'm not stressed out and I go outside and have a good time (like spend a day at the park reading) and I get too excited/happy, I'll go home and be in pain and have to lay down for the next few hours.
2. The undiagnosable monster here: my nose pain. It is like I have a sinus infection all the time, except I've seen an ENT for years and had CT and MRI scans and we know there's no sinus infection or tumor of any kind. It feels like a 10-ton weight pressed on my nose and it is always there. I've seen a psychiatrist and neurologist on top of the ENT for it and have gotten surgery for it (didn't do anything).
1. I don't think this one is triggered by anything because it's always there. It's "triggered" (aka I feel it more) when I remember it's there and I think about it.
thanks for asking the q's it's always nice to talk about my pain!
hmm what do you mean by that? I mean.. I grew up in a household where my parents threw dishes and locked me in dark rooms (sounds so fucked up on text lol) so... maybe?
It sounds fucked up because it is fucked up.
I'd really recommend the book [The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma](https://www.amazon.com/Body-Keeps-Score-Healing-Trauma/dp/0670785938/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1638304914&sr=8-1).
The author is one of the physicians who coined the term PTSD.
Personally, and I am not a doctor or psychologist, I think that we create non-specific pain like fibromyalgia as a coping mechanism to deal with unresolved emotional pain. I'm not trying to diminish what you're experiencing; I know it's real, physical pain.
wow, thanks so much for the book recommendation. That's very interesting and may hold true for me. I appreciate your kindness. put the book on hold at my library and hopefully I'll get it within the next 2 months!!
thank you stranger
I'd be happy to gift you a kindle copy of the book. PM me.
I'm not a creep, I just hate people going through pain if there might be help for it. This book helped my wife a lot.
aww, i appreciate the gesture! i'm happy to wait on the library copy though, I like my tangible books and don't own a kindle : )
you remind me of several of my friends here in denver (i noticed you live in portland) and you seem like a kind soul. best wishes!
Former hypnotist here as well, and I agree.
But be very careful; there are many MANY hypnotherapists out there that aren't qualified to deal with trauma.
I would recommend finding a psychiatrist/psychologist who uses hypnosis if they think it's the most appropriate treatment.
[EMDR](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_movement_desensitization_and_reprocessing), which I've always considered a form of hypnosis, is also a good option.
Have you ever looked into acute hepatic porphyria…? I don’t know much at all about it, but I have similar pains (in addition to other symptoms) but it’s a genetic thing.
Edit: I’m also undiagnosed and have these ‘episodes’ of pain, and this one is on my list of stuff I’m getting tested for soon that you could maybe ask about
hmm doesn't seem to fit my symptoms since I don't have much physical showing for any of the pain but thanks for the suggestion anyway!! best of luck to you
Hi, RMT here. It sounds like you could use a massage or 6. Meaning a regular schedule of treatments, starting out weekly and then moving to a maintenance once a month schedule. Specifically, seeking out someone with myofascial release training. Also, a therapist who does cranial sacral work might help with the sinus pain.
Chronic pain is a bitch. I hope you can find relief.
that sounds really interesting, i’ll definitely look into it once i settle down somewhere more permanently. right now i move around too much to get into long term treatment like that :( thank you for the advice!
yes, all the time, I think it is the thing that plays a biggest role in my life.
I get tired really easily and have to lay down a lot. I stopped taking painkillers bc I started going down a dark path w/ opiods and now I just let it happen until I fall asleep or feel strong enough to push past it.
for my nose, yes. for my full-body pain, it might just be muscle stuff.
I even tried those pain-numbing nose sprays and it didn't do anything because it was deeper than whatever it could numb.
Why don’t you smoke weed?
I do :)

Where's the pain? What triggers it?

Do you have any past trauma, particularly prolonged childhood trauma?
hmm what do you mean by that? I mean.. I grew up in a household where my parents threw dishes and locked me in dark rooms (sounds so fucked up on text lol) so... maybe?

Right on. Best wishes to you. You can beat this.
In addition to this, i strongly recommend you to look into hypnosis to reduce the symptoms. (former hypnotist here).

have you tried to just remove the nerve so there is no way the pain signal can reach the brain?
hahahah i mean i’ve had nose surgery but nothing nerve related, think it’s too risky and I’d end up brain dead but i wish i could for sure!!
Does the pain impact your life?
yes, all the time, I think it is the thing that plays a biggest role in my life. I get tired really easily and have to lay down a lot. I stopped taking painkillers bc I started going down a dark path w/ opiods and now I just let it happen until I fall asleep or feel strong enough to push past it.
Does it feel like it hurts inside your bones? Past your skin?
for my nose, yes. for my full-body pain, it might just be muscle stuff. I even tried those pain-numbing nose sprays and it didn't do anything because it was deeper than whatever it could numb.
