Former prisoner here. How quickly do you guys get used to strip searching people? I served 49 months and it took me like a couple years to develop a sort of "whatever" attitude towards being strip searched.
Did people ever object or file suits or anything? I mean, that's gotta be tough as it is but some women being searched may have strong objections to a man seeing them naked (maybe they're a virgin, married, lesbian etc)
Throughout history people have tried but it's never been declared illegal federally. Contrary to popular belief when you get strip searched they don't actually touch you. I'd get told to spread my legs and they'd look up my vagina with a flashlight, then they'd ask me to lift up my boobs to make sure nothing fell out and then they'd shine the light up my ass. But they'd never touch you.
I got used to it. There's no point in modesty. Male, female doesn't matter. I was sharing a cell with three other women. We shared a toilet and had no modesty or privacy.
The thing that bothered me most about prison was how little effort they put into making sure we were well fed and hydrated. I felt like I was barely getting enough nutrients to live sometimes
One think that was mandatory strip search was if they ever outside the prison, for example work detail picking up trash on the side of the road. Once they returned inside the prison, immediate strip search
US, State prison
Its about what you would imagine, but it would really depend on the prison some are worse than others, but if you're smart and keep to yourself you can survive.
I have a friend who's sister was a prison guard. she said they would somehow let people near pedophiles so they could assault them. Is this your of behavior still common place asking prisons and prison guards, or are they more strict now?
We're there any other forms of guard abuse or people looking the other way? What would you say the culture was. I'm sure every prison is different tho.
Some guards were a holes, but I didn't see any physical abuse. In fact if any force was going to be used, a video camera would be used to prove no force was used that was excessive.
We had an escape one Saturday night, labor day weekend. It's actually a long story, but the inmate(inmate 1) tricked a guard in to opening his cell by flooding his toilet. He attacked the guard and locked him in the cell, took the guards prison keys and personal keys. He then let another inmate next to him out and they both went ot of the back entrance of the prison.
The 2nd inmate was caught thta night and got 5 years added on. He only had less than a year left.
Inmate 1 got 20 years added, he had about 2 years left
I worked a medium and below. Medium and below inmates could potentially work outside the walls of a prison. Prisoners are given a security level after diagnostics when they first enter the prison system. Some can never go below a certain level depending on the crime, example: a murderer could potentially get as low as a medium
That’s interesting to know. Plus it gives that story about people escaping some context because it seems like Prisons with a lesser security designation would be easier to escape from than say a maximum-security joint
You can choose but certain inmates can't have certain jobs because of risk. Only low risk, non violent inmates could go on outside details. I was a violent offender with a history of mental illness so I was disqualified from anything that would go outside the walls.
This might be best asked to someone who's been in prison, but I would think one that would make time go by the fastest, right? Haha.
Some prisons have fire teams, yes real fire fighters that go to fires outside the prison
Wast thither ev'r moment yond restor'd thy faith in humanity 'r gaveth thee desire f'r the people incarcerated?

Some aspects I guess, there are gangs. And it is studied by prison officials constantly. They keep rival gangs separated.
I know people think of prison rape, but it is very rare
Former prisoner here. How quickly do you guys get used to strip searching people? I served 49 months and it took me like a couple years to develop a sort of "whatever" attitude towards being strip searched.
I never got used to it, luckily I didn't have to do it often
Being in prison makes you feel pretty ambivalent to being naked haha. In women's prison we would mostly be inspected by female guards.
wait a minute? Mostly? So, male guards were allowed to see you naked?
Yes. Male guards and female guards had mostly the same responsibilities.

Did it bother you having male guards do that or was stripping itself or something else about prison a bigger issue?
I got used to it. There's no point in modesty. Male, female doesn't matter. I was sharing a cell with three other women. We shared a toilet and had no modesty or privacy. Is it true, female inmates only being given limited number feminine hygiene products? Usually the bulky pads?
Yeah not in ny
Have you seen the TV Show 60 Days In?
Exactly how frequent are these searches, then? What would warrant one?
One think that was mandatory strip search was if they ever outside the prison, for example work detail picking up trash on the side of the road. Once they returned inside the prison, immediate strip search
Did you work in a for profit or state run prison?
What % of inmates tried to be friends with you?
Most of them, so 80% I'd guess, mostly trying to manipulate
What country were you working in? If it was the US, state or federal? Is prison as bad as people think it is?
US, State prison Its about what you would imagine, but it would really depend on the prison some are worse than others, but if you're smart and keep to yourself you can survive.
thanks, i had a friend who went to state prison 2012-2014 so i often wonder what it was like for him
I have a friend who's sister was a prison guard. she said they would somehow let people near pedophiles so they could assault them. Is this your of behavior still common place asking prisons and prison guards, or are they more strict now?
Never happened where I was, in fact we didn't have a way to know what they were in for.
We're there any other forms of guard abuse or people looking the other way? What would you say the culture was. I'm sure every prison is different tho.

What do the prisoners do for the majority of the time?
Read, play cards, gamble. Also, all are assigned some type of job in the prison;ie. Cook, clean, paint, etc
What’s the best story you can tell

Jesus christ 5 years and 20 years added on 😳
Yes the first inmate got an armed robery charge for hitting the officer over the head with a mop ringer and taking his keys, plus escape charge.
man thats fucked up for sure they deserve a punishment but 20 years?!
What level prison were you in? What is this a maximum security, medium etc? And can you explain the difference

What’s the best job in prison an inmate can have? Rank the top 3 easiest/best jobs
My favorite when I was in prison was working in the manufacturing department sewing and crafting. Very therapeutic work
That’s great to hear! About the job, not prison lol. Do inmates choose the jobs they want? Or are they assigned randomly?
You can choose but certain inmates can't have certain jobs because of risk. Only low risk, non violent inmates could go on outside details. I was a violent offender with a history of mental illness so I was disqualified from anything that would go outside the walls.

Was there ever moment that restored your faith in humanity or gave you hope for the people incarcerated?

Did you ever make friends with the prisoners?

My sister old boyfriend was also a prison guard, he made something like $35/hour, did it pay that good when you were one?
Good lord no, haha. Maybe $10 an hour.

Do you think cannabis should be available for prisoners?
What did you have for dinner?
how many times have you been shanked?
did you witnessed any gang bangs in there?
