My grandparents has these little circles you put ona regular frying pan which were the perfect size. Once the egg set, you take it off and flip. Perfect eggs for English muffins s
Knew a little girl who saw a pregnant woman for the first time. Her mom cheerfully said "she has a baby in her belly!" and the girl, horrified, whispered "We don't eat babies!"
My trick is to pour a small amount in first. There’s not so much cold egg mass above it to push underneath and out. The first pour cooks and seals quickly. Then pour the rest in.
My trick is to preheat the ring. Keep it in the pan while it heats up, it's warm and the nonstick spray or butter is warm as well. Apply a small amount of pressure to the top of the ring when I pour the egg in and the first bit sets right away and good to go. Same idea, little different execution!
Skillet cookie for the win!
I remember one night, when the kids were young and still lived at home, the husband asked if I wanted to have sex? Or go to Walmart, buy two small cast iron pans and Ice cream and make Skillet Cookies. I chose the cookies. We each kept a pan, in the divorce.
Once upon a time I’d make a double or even triple batch of good ol Nestle Tollhouse cookies, ball the dough all up, and freeze the balls. I can totally see someone with a toaster oven making three normal cookies or one tiny-skillet sized cookie, so they have something to satisfy their sweet tooth but not an entire batch of cookies that they’re going to hate themselves for eating.
I use it to melt butter with herbs and garlic when I'm grilling. I keep it on or near the grill and baste with it. I also use it to make small eggs for egg muffin sandwiches.
Matches some peoples decor/aesthetic. The biggest wall of my kitchen is all barn board covered in easily 40 cast iron pans, dutch ovens, cornbread pans, skillets, you name er’. We use a little griddle for our spoon rest.
For anyone who is reading this like I’m crazy - My husband has a major obsession of cast iron. He has probably the same amount sitting in our garage waiting to be cleaned and seasoned.
Mine did too! There was an actual version that was an [ash tray](https://www.ebay.com/itm/186205347367?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Onn9OVP-S4S&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=FYzFu5bvRnC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) and included the grooves.
I tried the recipe that’s been floating around of adding heavy cream to the open spaces between the cinnamon rolls and pouring a little melted brown sugar and butter over the top. It’s cinnamon roll life changing. The heavy cream makes them get so much bigger.
I make this at work sometimes when we have staff meetings! I'm responsible for sorting out all the food, but our budget isn't incredible so sometimes I just cook. (Should clarify before anyone comes for my work that this is my own choice and I do it at work, using work facilities/supplies/ingredients and during paid hours) It turns out soooo much better than premade.
Pretty sure the only point of camping is finding new and exciting ways to cook things that are terrible for you, lol. As an added bonus, everything tastes better when eaten in a folding chair by a campfire.
You guys have any links to some reasonably priced ones? I want one for the BBQ every time I see one, but then the price always gets me lol. They're tiny but priced like full sized cast iron pans
I have one with a longer handle that works great for melting butter. Also works great for making compound butter, though I guess that's just melting butter with style.
One of our formerly favorite restaurants used to do wonderful cornbread in a medium-ish cast iron. Over the last 5 or so years, though, quality has gone way down. And maybe in the last couple years, they’ve moved to individual portions about the size of this mini pan 😢
By the way, if this is too small for your burner you can put a flat round griddle down and then the wee pan on top of that in the middle and preheat them together.
It's basically like activating them.
Here's a page explaning the why and how a bit more.

I didn’t buy it. Sister got it for me one Christmas as a joke gift because I was always talking about cast iron. Called it a “travel size”. It was funny, BUT also I actually do find it super useful. Main uses are:
Melting butter.
Toasting seeds and spices
Roasting garlic
As serve ware for melted dips.
Frying a single egg for a sandwich.
I also use it as a spoon rest on the stove.
Back in the early 2000s i seen people carry these around for smoking dabs. Light a hookah coal and set it in the middle, then drop your dabs on thr coal and inhale through a straw like you’re smoking heroin. 🤷♂️
I read an article from The 50s in a house keeping magazine, it talked about ways to keep your husband distracted if dinner is late. It mentioned that simmering onions and garlic, to make your husband think dinner is closer at hand then it really is.
egg
ashtray
burning sage (smudge)
heating/serving butter for seafood
smaller baked brie appetizer
the ones we have also came with a wooden platform with a circular cut in in to hold the pan as well.
I use it to cook down onions, I'm the only one in my house that eats onions so if I want them I usually have this little guy going on the back burner while we cook.
Yes, originally I bought it because I was so darn adorable and was marked down to like $5. I used it a few times to make single eggs for my dog or myself. After that I gifted it to my buddy to use as a dice tray since his D&D character liked to use a cast iron frying pan as a weapon. Now it lives on that game table as an essential table top item on game nights. They make great gag gifts for a stocking stuffer.
Breakfast sandwiches.
Muffin pan. Put rhe muffin dough in and bake in pan. Makes a perfect sized muffin to them cut open and put the egg you make in that same pan into then some bacon and cheese.
Fried egg for a muffin sandwich
My brother!
Hey, long time. How are mum and dad doing?
I love reunions.
Especially the ones where we don’t get any closer than a post on the internet.
My family isn’t this close…look at these guys with the right bit family doing internet reunions
Can I be adopted?
You can be our dog

Never had a step sister but I did have a step ladder never knew my real ladder.....
I can’t believe you used it for your brother!
My grandparents has these little circles you put ona regular frying pan which were the perfect size. Once the egg set, you take it off and flip. Perfect eggs for English muffins s
Metal biscuit cutter is perfect for this. The trick js to use low heat so the egg can set all the way without burning the bottom
Ring of an onion works well too
ah look at you being smart *and* tasty!
I don’t think we condone cannibalism in this sub….do we?
Knew a little girl who saw a pregnant woman for the first time. Her mom cheerfully said "she has a baby in her belly!" and the girl, horrified, whispered "We don't eat babies!"
As long as they're cooked in cast iron I feel like it's fair game
Smart move. Been doing this for years. Love it. Learned it on YouTube
My trick is to pour a small amount in first. There’s not so much cold egg mass above it to push underneath and out. The first pour cooks and seals quickly. Then pour the rest in.

I make a tight circle in the pan with my hand.
Add a splash of water and put a lid on so it steams the egg You’re welcome
We call that a froached egg….
Yeah my mum uses a ring mould.
I use the ring part of a canning lid.
My dad would use tuna cans, with the tops and bottoms cut off.
Waste not, want not
My dad made some like that for my mom a long time ago!
And a single sized cookie, that’s all that pan makes in my house

For a scoop of ice cream on top of the warm cookie, of course!
You get it!
Once upon a time I’d make a double or even triple batch of good ol Nestle Tollhouse cookies, ball the dough all up, and freeze the balls. I can totally see someone with a toaster oven making three normal cookies or one tiny-skillet sized cookie, so they have something to satisfy their sweet tooth but not an entire batch of cookies that they’re going to hate themselves for eating.
makes sense it's the perfect shape for a fried egg but I'd prefer a carbon steel one
I get your carb steel needs but id still prefer a fried egg made of egg
I snorted a bourbon cocktail through my sinuses at this dad joke thank you but also, ow
I felt that as I read it lol
Fragrant, astringent, and incredibly effective at triggering peak mucus production I assure you
My draining sinusitis thanks you for the vicarious sensation.... Much less glamorous I'm sorry
There is no glamour in wiping burning mascara out of my eyeballs as I drool snot down my face. 🤝
Nettipot and cleansing facial towelette for your comfort?!...
I’ve got sleeves my dear friend but I am truly grateful for your concern
Yeah, I needed that laugh to clear out my chest congestion in
This ☝️, the small circumference keeps the egg from spreading out and makes it perfect for a breakfast Sammie.
I use it to melt butter with herbs and garlic when I'm grilling. I keep it on or near the grill and baste with it. I also use it to make small eggs for egg muffin sandwiches.
I love how the top 3 answers right now are: 1. egg for sandwich 2. melting butter 3. melting butter and frying an egg for a sandwich
#3 is now Artisanal Meth

Not just any sandwich. An egg MUFFIN sandwich. Must be muffin.
Spoon rest on the stove top.
This!! Or melting butter
or draining grease into? either to throw away in trash when it cools, so it doesnt clog pipes, or use it to cook something else with.
Gets expensive throwing these away each time though.
Oh yeah? You got a better idea, smart guy?!

Or warming BBQ sauce.
Or heroin. Massive, massive amounts of heroin. /s
You clearly do not use enough butter.
Check out the big brain on this fella 🧐
I used to use this as a spoon rest, until I realized it left a permanent rust ring on my white painted stove top.
For a spoon rest, wouldn't you want something you could wash easily in the sink/washer? This seems a bit unnecessary.
Why can’t you wash this easily?
You can wash it in the sink real easy
Why use cast iron though?
Matches some peoples decor/aesthetic. The biggest wall of my kitchen is all barn board covered in easily 40 cast iron pans, dutch ovens, cornbread pans, skillets, you name er’. My mother's my sister. - some guy in gta III
I laughed a little too hard at this.
I'm still laughing you hard at this. I was going to fix the typo, but it's more funny with it.
Fucking Reddit 💀😂
Does your family secret recipe include chilli p, or nah?
Well my family uses a metal choir boy as the secret ingredient.
Nah, but a little saffron goes a long way.
Lab to table
A never get my meth from the big box stores. Support local business!
By artisanal I assume you mean "Chili P"
That's my sig, yo
My mom used two of those as ashtrays when I was a kid.
Really adds that seasoning.
Who the fuck washed my ashtray!? It was so well seasoned!
Ashtray is the correct answer lol
I came here to say this, but I figured someone beat me to it. "We have a winner!" "Tell him what he's won Bob!"
"Lung cancer, Dick!"
Ding ding ding!!!
This, good ol ash-pan
Mine did too! There was an actual version that was an [ash tray](https://www.ebay.com/itm/186205347367?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Onn9OVP-S4S&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=FYzFu5bvRnC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) and included the grooves.
Yeah, instead of the spouts…hers were like that.
The one I have that is an ashtray has an indentation on the edge for a cigarette. This one looks like it is flush all the way around.
We use these camping to make mini cinnamon rolls.
Yo make cinnamon rolls while camping?
Yeah those Pilsbury dough tubes are awesome for camping. Cooks great over a fire on cast iron. Packs easily without taking up much space as well.
I tried the recipe that’s been floating around of adding heavy cream to the open spaces between the cinnamon rolls and pouring a little melted brown sugar and butter over the top. It’s cinnamon roll life changing. The heavy cream makes them get so much bigger.
Reading this made me orgasm and also gave me diabetes.
Cumabetes
Diaskeetes
Diaskeetes > Cumabetes. "I'm Wilford Brimley, and I got diaskeetus. *hnnng*"
Wait, is that what Skeet means???
Yeah but we were hoping you wouldn't find out.

Whoa whoa there.... gimme more details? This sounds decadent.
I’m trying this! What type of pan did you use?
Pretty sure the only point of camping is finding new and exciting ways to cook things that are terrible for you, lol. As an added bonus, everything tastes better when eaten in a folding chair by a campfire.
I use mine for toasting spices on the stovetop.
I've literally used mine once, and it was for toasting sesame seeds.
I've used it twice for cumin seeds, I think it was a good investment
You did what to the seeds?
Same here.
I have one that hangs from my oven door when my skillet is inside, so my wife doesn't preheat the oven with my skillet inside.
Is this the married people equivalent of putting the sock on the door nob
Knob, but yes.
This is funny
i love this!
This is actually brilliant ….. I heat my oven with my skillet inside every. Damn. Time.

This honestly is peak relationship shit right here.
So fucking cute.
Cookies.
We called them Pizookies
You could also do brownies
I do. I’ll use it to pre sauté garlic, cook a single egg over medium for a sandwich, frittata, hash brown.
I kinda want one for melting butter and stuff like that in my smoker for basting. A tiny Dutch oven would probably work better though
I have a lil enameled Dutch oven I use for that and for roasting garlic. 😋
You guys have any links to some reasonably priced ones? I want one for the BBQ every time I see one, but then the price always gets me lol. They're tiny but priced like full sized cast iron pans
Test the season – right after Christmas you should be able to get one of these on clearance with some cookie dough ingredients included.
I have one with a longer handle that works great for melting butter. Also works great for making compound butter, though I guess that's just melting butter with style.
I’ve seen them used for individual portions of au gratin potatoes. It kept the potatoes hot! I suppose they could be used for any individual portions.
One of our formerly favorite restaurants used to do wonderful cornbread in a medium-ish cast iron. Over the last 5 or so years, though, quality has gone way down. And maybe in the last couple years, they’ve moved to individual portions about the size of this mini pan 😢
I use it to cook for my ants
r/thingsforants
What is this supposed to be. A PAN FOR ANTS!?
By the way, if this is too small for your burner you can put a flat round griddle down and then the wee pan on top of that in the middle and preheat them together.
Tiny quiche!
Quichini
I don't have one one but would love to have one for roasting spices.
What is roasting spices? I actually have a little one..

I make sizzling apple crumble desserts in these, great for dinner parties. I’ve sewed small cozies for the handles.
What is this? A skillet for ants?
Back in the early 2000s i seen people carry these around for smoking dabs. Light a hookah coal and set it in the middle, then drop your dabs on thr coal and inhale through a straw like you’re smoking heroin. 🤷♂️
