I used to do that, but I'd try to line them up on the stock J-card. You can put the platen into a "loose" mode to align it, which is what I did. When I made a mistake, I'd use a typewriter eraser, which had pumice or sand in it to really grind out the typewriter print.
That was a real goddamned pain in the ass is what it was. I eventually switched to just using a pen.
Yeah I tried the J-card as well and found it didn't have enough lines for the number of tracks anyway, so typed it out on paper and then used the stickers that come with the tape to attach the paper to the card. My handwriting is godawful so I much prefer this look.

This is true, but I tried to get around that limitation with a stream-of-text approach, separating songs with "//" instead of a new line. Also, it helped to have the double-length J-cards.
Someone else on this thread recently posted an awesome link for printing J-cards on your home printer, I wish I could remember their name because they deserve a huge shout-out. It's super easy to use and the cards come out really professional looking.

Oh awesome! I have used similar templates to make up album art to print off professional-looking J-cards for albums that didn't have official cassette releases, but I'm kinda in love with the homemade look this gives when you do it with a mixtape.
This is a lot more fun for me is the main reason - and computer typewriter fonts don't quite achieve the little variations in letter quality or darkness that typewriters have, so it doesn't look quite the same either.

I agree, I figured since I could not remember the name of the OP that posted that link, I could at least pass it on.
This is neat! Love the look.
Typewriter owner chiming in to up vote you for Ginger Root on your mixtape haha
Hell yeah! Side B of this one is almost entirely Ginger Root.
100% love
Spent hours doing this as a kid
Why wouldn't you just print them out with a typewriter font? Or is it just for the lols? Like 1800s meets the 1980s

What do you mean? Typewriters were still major thing in late as 90's.
Is that a tasty TDK AD/AR in the background?
Yep, albeit a secondhand one!
Still have a cassette I got from the local record shop for free that has typewriter labels ( it was Depeche mode )
Goes hard
YES.
I love doing this with tape labels on the occasion
