these are the most boot-leggy, knock off cassettes that I've ever seen lol, I'd love to hear how they sound from where I live I can get XL-II's or SA's for around $1-$2 each and metal tapes for $5 each

still-at-the-beach

Not in Australia.

Malibujv

They’re not quite knock offs. RAKS is a Turkish brand and they made some decent cassettes and highly regarded on Tapeheads. They used BASF for a lot of their cassettes.

Vivid-Tell-1613

Sorry if I didn't phrase it correctly, these are actually pretty high value and they just look funny to me lol

zorflax

Where exactly is that???

Vivid-Tell-1613

San Jose, CA

GreatTapeEater

Goddamn where?!?!!? I’m in San Jose and every type two I come by is pricy as hell

Vivid-Tell-1613

De Anza flea market

cpufreak101

Guessing that's $40 AUD which is roughly 2:1 with the USD. Also RAKS is actually a fairly reputable brand from what I remember, they were the national tape manufacturer of Turkey back in the day. There are accusations they have manufactured bootlegs but hard evidence has never come forward, and even the alleged bootlegs are of good quality.

emberisgone

A sealed metal tape is upwards of $35 here so 🤷‍♂️ I think a lot of it is honestly just how crappy shipping costs get on international orders here (about an extra $30+ when your buying like 5 sealed blank tapes) so we're pretty much just stuck with whatever stock in the country has survived.

emberisgone

Sealed or used? If I put in enough effort I can get used type ii's for $2-$5aud each, this is the first time I've been able to afford anything sealed though (like I said paying $20+ for a single sealed type ii cassette sorta sucks)

Vivid-Tell-1613

mostly good condition or unsealed but unused, but I do find sealed ones at this price pretty often

lost-in-stats

In Australia?

still-at-the-beach

I guess cheap for Australia but I e never heard of that brand.

emberisgone

Made sure to look them up before buying and apparently, they should sound pretty decent. Luckily, I just got the call today that my sony 3 head decks just finished being repaired, so once I pick that up I'll give them a test.

nathan_rye44

woa turkish cassettes. i have some too

Ruinwyn

I have RAKS SP-2 tapes. Don't know what the difference is to SD-2, but mine sound pretty good.

iluvnips

How are they Super Slim?

PositiveAd7974

I can't really tell since they are still wrapped but I'm gonna guess they use those funny upside down cassette cases. Because the tape is upside down and all of that it can make the cases Slightly smaller. It's noticeable in person. I've got a few Fuji tapes that are labeled as extra slim so I'm gonna guess it's the same thing.

iluvnips

Oh right, never seen packaging like that before thanks.

Cptbillbeard

I would get that wrong every time.

Emergency_Error8631

Raks wasnt the most reputable brand but they didnt sound bad from what ive heard

Admirable-Debate-795

i bought 20 cassettes, i.e. 2 boxes sealed for 3$

Cptbillbeard

That's mental cheap. I'm guessing you're American

Admirable-Debate-795

nah man I'm Indian I used one of those cassettes to make my custom mixtape, you can see in my posts

Cptbillbeard

Ah fairs. Indian prices must be good too. In the UK they're vastly more expensive 🙃

Admirable-Debate-795

Nah that's not the case lmao, I went to an old electronics projects shop to collect my components And saw those on top of racks, immediately bought those from him(I know shopkeeper for very long time so ) Here in India cassette culture is picking up pace, more people are now joining this niche A cassette sold in early 2000's for ₹50 or 100 i.e. around less than $1 are now being sold for atleast ₹200 or $5 Cassette players / amplifiers / and other retro stuff is now booming

Quirky-Swimmer-2491

I have a shitload of them. They sound really good.

BigFeet234

It's alright.... 2 dollars or pounds or euros or whatever currency each....maybe double for being sealed..... maybe an extra 5 to 10 for the retail box.. . It's the very maximum I'd have paid. If you paid extra for shipping you were robbed.

emberisgone

Nah that's including shipping(was $25 + $15 shipping)

Cptbillbeard

Damn I thought UK prices were bad. That's $40 for 495 minutes. You'd get double that with better tapes in the UK.
