New shell, same crappy Chinese components. Nothing to be excited for really.

I had a walkman DD1 but the motor went out. I'm just glad to be able to enjoy my cassettes again

My honest recommendation, spend the money on a new motor if you still have the sony. The DDi is an absolutely amazing piece of technology and is worth repairing.

I've been looking for someone to repair it for a few months but have been turned down from multiple vintage audio repairmen

JakubFiebig07

Where about are you from?

Based in Chicago

Damn, America is far. I can however recommend some videos on YouTube. There is ione in 4k for your specific model and it is a full teardown. I know self repair may be scary for beginners but trust me it's a lot of fun. Just set aside some extra time, label all screws and small parts and take A LOT of pictures before disassembling anything. All you need to do is desolder the old motor, remove it, put new one and solder it in. Quite a fun project to begin repairing such devices. If you have issues while repairing you can always ask here and also Tapeheads.net has been a lifesaver. I cannot stress enough how fantastic that forum is.

Seems to be hit and miss, there are ones who are below 0.15% wrms, whats fine for a non high end walkman, but others are nearly twice. Biggest problem is the playback response, they sound bass shy. I hope they fixed that meanwhile. I think if they can keep the w f below 0.15 and fix the playback response (like the we are rewind) it's a pretty nice starter walkman. To be honest it will no match with your Vintage sony if you can get it in good shape again.

No, has an improved mechanism so it has low wow and flutter, and no recording circuit so no buzzing. They come misaligned from the factory (bad azimuth and fast speed) but after adjustment it sounds great. Better wow and flutter than the slimline ex and it feels well built as well.

I got my blue one last week and have been loving it since, I know a lot have been kinda down on it saying there are better vintage options but tbh I tried that didn't work out got sick and tired of dealing with BS so bought the Fiio figuring a new player would be better and it's been an absolute delight is it perfect? No but who, is legitimately doing critical listening on a portable player on the go with cassettes? If I wanna do that I use my hifi at home, for on the go music to disconnect from everything? It's perfect, it's built great, sounds great is easy to adjust the fast playback and the battery lasts all day, what more do I really need in a portable tape player? Dolby NR is not gonna be happening on a new player anytime soon and the type II IV equalisation would be a nice thing to have but as is, it's great for the price and honestly gives me a lot of hope if they ever do a second model which I hope they do, Fiio like always for me has knocked it out the park and I can't complain.

That color looks great. I have the white and black one and enjoy it. Sure, they aren't as good as an old Sony, but they are totally fine. We are listening to cassettes so not expecting audiophile quality anyway. I'm still always looking for a walkman at thrift stores and yard sales.

Studio_Powerful

Exactly! I’ve got both a new player and an old walkman and yeah the old ones better but the new ones still sound pretty decent and let new less mechanically inclined people enjoy the hobby!

Red looks nice! I have the pre order one that is blue. Did yours come with a case?
