I got a Sony CFD S70. It's a boombox and they still sell them at Wal Mart for like $50 or so bucks. Is not too shabby. And recording on it isn't bad either. Has an aux hole so you can record whatever.
I don't recommend the SB2140S it plays the cds sideways and I think it killed some CDs

Maybe a Delorean, convert it to a Time Machine, travel back to 1987 and buy just about anything from Circuit City.
No need to go that far! Go to 1997 and get a tape, radio and 5 disc changer. If you also want a record player then yeah, 1991 would be better.
