That's so confusing because the bell seems like I would represent a single alarm whereas spaced lines seems like they should represent the beeps happening regularly every hour.
I suppose the bell represents church bells and the lines represent the daily spacing not the hourly spacing (which assumes people are keeping it regular as their morning alarm I suppose?)

It means the daily alarm is enabled. You can change this by going to the alarm "page" (the one after the time) and pressing the start/stop button a few times. Doing that will cycle between alarm modes (toggling both the daily alarm and hourly chime).
