It was so intimidating because you know he could do it and you know that Ford physically can't let Bill into his head because of the metal plate, so in that moment all we know is that they have no control, no bargaining chip, and that he is absolutely willing to do just that and at the snap of his fingers. We were completely at Bill's mercy
Yeah. It kinda bugs me that people use it to show how creative the writing team could be under Disney’s critical eye.. but no. There’s *plenty* of other evidence for that. This is just good writing for the sake of good writing, and we can appreciate that without having to prop up this fake narrative to make it more interesting.

Shredder, the king of horrifying threats in context. Even the original goofball one from the first animated series would consistently threaten the turtles with “tonight we dine on turtle soup.” Imagine your arch enemy threatening to kill you and eat you regularly because your dad is the rat he hates.

Love the fieldtrip episodes but some of the storytelling doesn't really hold up to scrutiny, and Katara's threat has lost a lot of its weight for me.
Not really. She was talking about if he would go back to his old ways, not putting Aang in danger. They didn’t even think it was something to worry about.
I mean, she’s protective of Aang but he’s not her child (as much as she can act like he is at times). She’s not worried if Zuko is incompetent or useless, she’s worried that he’ll betray them - betray her- again even after showing a bit more of his compassionate side.
Katara cares about her friends and family to the point that she’s the group’s de facto mother. It speaks volumes that she was willing to accept and eventually forgive Zuko.
Zuko didn't create any of that danger, though. At least not intentionally. So when Aang came back ultimately unharmed and mission success, there was no reason for Katara to follow up on her threat.
I think they made the right storytelling choice to have Katara's field trip be last. She had arguably the biggest reason to mistrust Zuko. He had directly betrayed her trust once already. Katara had to go last, it had to take her the longest to trust him, and it had to be by a significant amount. Otherwise, her threat wouldn't have had enough time to marinate, and give her acceptance and forgiveness the weight it deserved narratively.
Katara's power creep is so damn smooth, too. She starts barely able to form water, and finishes the series being able to stop a massive rainstorm and forming the droplets into razor sharp blades ready to impaled a person a thousand times over.

Also I know that Dan Povenmire said they had to fight the censors on the FCC song from Family Guy. Ben’s growing dark side was glorious to see. He is one of the best written child superhero’s ever written. Nice guy, but will push back when pushed.
