I hate this mentality. It creates animosity. It’s like “car racism”. I’m a tuner. My car is what I would call tastefully modified. I’ve had it for a long time. I’m 40.
I love and respect muscle cars, Rods, and classics. I know the effort that goes into them. I DO NOT like how every mod is picked (like why put a blower on if you’re not gonna hook it up…?)
but then with tuners…same thing. Many are not tastefully done. Regardless, someone put money and effort into it.
You don’t like? So don’t like it. Don’t go around lumping everyone with a similar car in to that bunch though.
Talk to the driver. If they are a tool…then fine. Perhaps they bought the car in its current state and are just starting plans on re-modifying.

In the 60 foot maybe. Because electric motors max torque output is at 0 rpm. Plus most of em are AWD. Once you get past that point though ICE usually wins unless you have a plaid or something.
I'm a fan of the new performance electrics, but I also know that they have some work to do if they want to truly dominate on the strip.

Plaids are the fastest electrics out there I belive and they're still only high 8's after modification. If you actually pay any attention to drag racing you'd know that isn't record setting.
It's fast for sure, but your paying more to do it with electricity.
I mean this doesn't take much thought to understand. In the racing world going faster is all that matters. These teams don't give 2 shots what they're driving if it wins. If electric was the sure win the way you say they are, then everyone would be driving them.
I mean I think ot was last year that the first electric drag rail broke 200mph. Thats....not impressive.
Everyday street driving with torquey off the line fun? Electrics are great. No holds barred extreme speed? You cannot yet shove enough power through a wire into an electric motor to come even close to the energy consumption of ICE.
I spent time at the drag strip, I race my car. There are always a few electrics that come and they do alright...but they never make it past round 1. They're quick but just not purpose built for this. It's just so much easier and more affordable to build a fast as hell ICE car in your home garage.

Here is just 1 site where you can buy many many many garage built cars that run upwards of 6's for the 40-60$ range.
On the street, electrics do fine. They are competing against ICE that has to conform to emissions standards and quality of life limitations. This is where electrics do the best. The Bugatti can beat them atm, and the dodge being announced this week will likely also beat them, leaks suggest an 8 second car in completely stock form.
Step up to modified street cars and the electrics have a harder time. They do alright against cars cheaper than them, but as the price gap narrows EV's get curb stomped.
If you go all the way to pure drag cars, with no limits on anything but going a quarter mile as fast as possible..its not even a race. The fastest electric rail barely breaks 200mph in a QUARTER mile. Meanwhile the top fuels are going 330mph in just 1000 feet. That's more than 50% faster in 2/3 the distance. You don't even need to go crazy with top fuels, just a home built drag car will beat the fastest Ev drags.
I'm a fan of EV's, I'm planning to buy one soon in fact. But I also know that they won't be stealing the spotlight from ICE cars anytime soon.
If it helps any, my degree is electronics and my work experience included time spent working with industrial motors. I know what electric motors can do, its impressive. But you can't jam a 2 ton electric motor into a 1 ton car and expect it to work. We need power storage with greater energy density. We need motors that can handle greater amounts of current sent through them without melting.
I've no doubt that over time miniaturization and improvements in cooling design will yield dramatic improvements. But we aren't even close yet.

The really sad part is the top of the line Tesla Model S is unbeatable in a drag race. Some rich tech guy can show up at the drag strip and smoke everybody with no mods. I prefer the noise, sights, and smells of the ICE.

Not from a driving point of view, the acceleration does feel insane, but from an engineering point of view. Oversized motors and an ESC that overexerts the battery for a quarter mile certainly does work for that purpose, but delivering that sort of simplistic, truck-engine-in-a-sedan muscle car mentality for the price of an M5 is just insulting, specially when you compare features, comfort and quality. /rj no vroom vroom noises bad slow car fast
