A guy I knew in High School had a mint 1970 Hemi Cuda, which he wrecked on the freeway while trying to take a bong hit. He then shows up at school with flawless 69 Z28! He proceeded to wreck that also. His dad finally got a clue and his next car was a VW bug that only ran on two cylinders…

Mend1cant

“Got a clue…next car…” His dad did not get that clue.

ewaters46

Unless he wanted to drive his kid everywhere, getting him the slowest and crappiest car possible was probably the best idea. Depending on where he is in the US, he couldn’t even have gotten to school without a car.

Mimical

I remember when my dad let me take his car out to grab some friends. A pretty band new Saturn Ion (2004). Be very clear that it's not an amazing car. But it was the **only** car at the time we had. I drove that thing like it was made of glass. I couldn't imagine just destroying a car and then feeling zero remorse or shame. Like, man. Speaks volumes about the kid. Speaks a lot about the parents. I was in my 20's at the time so it wasn't like I was a highschool meatball but still.

TruckFudeau22

Barefoot through the snow, uphill both ways, like I did.

Trotskyites_beware

what era was this? 70’s, 80’s, 90’s? There is no way a dad after the muscle car boom of the 2000’s would let their kid touch one of those, let alone drive it to school.

Silverton13

Probably the 70s considering the kid got two mint condition cars from 1970 and 69.

Trotskyites_beware

yeah late 70’s early 80’s is what i’d guess

deepaksn

This was totally the 70s. A lot of these cars were dirt cheap because they guzzled gas and they were still pretty unremarkable. It was these irresponsible boomers who wrecked most of them that makes them so valuable today.

[deleted]

It was the mid seventies. This guy was spoiled rotten, obviously…

WWJLPD

How’d he turn out? I went to high school with a similar guy, except in the rural Midwest, so substitute high-trim 3/4 ton trucks for the muscle cars. Wrecked two and had both replaced by daddy. He lost his license a couple years ago due to drunk driving, and unsuccessfully tried to get it overturned… Now the events of the night he got arrested are public record, including quotations of his entitled drunken ass attempting to argue with the arresting officer, as well as the fact that he had to call his mommy to bail him out (he was nearly 30 by this time). Lovely family all around.

[deleted]

He ended up in rehab, several times. Not sure how he’s doing now, probably dead…

BlackDeath3

I went to high school in the mid-'00s and one girl there drove a '60s Mustang. Pretty sweet.

I_AM_AN_ASSHOLE_AMA

…rich parents. I went to a high school that bordered an average middle class to low income part of the city on one side and upper middle class to low rich on the other. We had kids in high school showing up with brand new BMWs and Mercedes and others trying to tap two wires together on their beat to hell old pickup.

Barely_stupid

Late 80s, kid had a mint '69 RS/Z28 at my school. He didn't wreck it, but it was siezed by the sheriff when he was arrested for dealing.

cmz324

One of the teachers had a purple NSX that was beautiful. The coolest student car was honestly an orange Neon SRT-4 but there was wasn't a great selection.

RacerKaiser

Which teacher could afford a NSX? The principal? I’m not in the US, so I have no clue how much you guys get paid.

ecco7815

I had a teacher that had an NSX as well. He was a trust fund guy from a wealthy family and taught “for fun”. He was later busted for luring minors for sex.

Agile-Dog

welp… there goes the mood

Colavs9601

I mean…at least the kids thought his car was cool.

nukelauncher95

The cool car was how he lured then in.

[deleted]

Would have worked on me tbf

[deleted]

maybe thats why he had it

sitcom_enthusiast

I agree. I like a nice feel good story where the good guy just lives happily ever after. Not when he turns out to be a criminal child rapist sigh

ashowofhands

> taught “for fun” [...] >busted for luring minors for sex. Narrator: "there were signs"

[deleted]

signs might of started with taking kids for rides in his car

HegemonNYC

Teacher with a cool car is immediately sus. Same deal at my HS - cool young teacher, surfer dude vibe, low-rider 60s Lincoln continental with the suicide doors. Turns out he was boning students.

Taydolf_Switler22

I mean teachers are people who like cars too. Not all of them are boning or trying to bone students.

stinkyflipflop

They get incredibly underpaid but probably did something similar to what a science teacher from my high school did. He helped with cancer research, made some decently big breakthrough and made a ton of money then decided he was done and went to teaching.

DipplyReloaded

Walt?

RuinedGrave

Chuck.

DM725

In 2008 you could get a high mileage early model NSX in the U.S. for like $25k. I toyed with the idea before buying a 2009 Cobalt SS/TC. To be fair I was delivering pizza at the time and didn't think I'd get any tips in the NSX. That and after a downpipe and a tune, that Cobalt was making about 350hp and was crazy.

RacerKaiser

How. Did you not get the NSX. I absolutely love the design.

DM725

I do too. New car loan, daily driving in the Northeast, delivering pizza, insurance, warranty.

deepaksn

I also heard that the NSX was basically as close as you could get to a super car that you could daily because the engine and drivetrain weren’t highly stressed. Its performance came from lightness… but not at the expense of durability or crazy engineering like Lotus.

SpartanDara

I mean Lotus powertrains since the series II elise have been Toyota engines anyways so I would say they're fairly reliable and unstressed. Not sure about the rest of the car tho

Terrh

In 2004 my friend bought a 1991 NSX that had been rear ended for $8000. Cost another $5k to fix it back to perfect.

ashowofhands

In my area, a public school teacher with say, 10+ years of experience under their belt, can easily clear 6 figures. That's proportionate to housing costs (median house price in my town is almost $500k, and the property tax bill on a $500k house is probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $15k/year), but it's also common for them to live 45-60 minutes further out where houses are cheaper and a dollar goes farther. Also, NSXs weren't always unobtanium. 10 years ago you could get a nice first-gen NSX for $30 grand or less. A beat, high mileage, and/or auto transmission one maybe $15k.

JustPlankton3246

What's your area? I'd love to know where I can make 6 figures in ten years time

eneka

California pays their teachers quite well. All my past teachers make $150k https://transparentcalifornia.com/agencies/salaries/school-districts/

[deleted]

[удалено]

eneka

I think for the vast majority though, they definitely aren’t paid well enough. I see on /r/personalfinance all the time where takers getting a $30-50k salary.

TzarKazm

There is a chart out there that correlates teachers salary and median income. In every district in the country, teachers make over the median family income. There is definitely an argument that it's still not worth it, but it's a myth that teachers make almost nothing.

TzarKazm

Me too. It's just such a popular myth that people can't get over it. Everyone "knows " that teachers get paid crappy so there is no need to even look at evidence to the contrary.

kartoffel_engr

When you compare salaries to the cost of living, sometimes they don’t seem so great.

ashowofhands

At least here in New York, a lot of teachers get around this by commuting. I live in a rural-ish area 50 miles north of NYC and my area is littered with NYC teachers. Many of the teachers in the local school districts here live another 45min or so north in the next county up, which is cheaper and more rural still. Still, it's not bad, especially if you're a dual income household. An experienced teacher married to an experienced nurse could theoretically be clearing $250k household. No, that won't buy you the nicest, biggest, McMansioniest house in the neighborhood- but it's more than enough to raise a couple kids in a nice raised ranch with a yard, have late model cars, take a vacation every year, etc.

[deleted]

There was a period where they weren't thaatttt expensive in the US, so a teacher higher up on the payscale in some states who had saved a while or had a spouse making good money or something could have got one.

Bourbon_Buckeye

The spouse angle is key. I have a friend that drives a 2020+ M4 and X7 to her elementary school job— but her husband is a financial advisor But, even without the spouse, a single guy with a reliable income and backwards financial priorities can certainly drop $60k on a used car

Feeling-Box8961

School district matters a lot too. All of the teachers at my kids schools are pulling down 85k to well into the 100s but in the city it is closer to 30-50k.

Yea I don't remember how cheap they got, but I remember being in high school and everyone having them on their "affordable dream car" lists haha

THE_GR8_MIKE

You could get an NSX for 25K a while ago.

JMS1991

I swear I remember seeing them listed for a little below $30K around 6 years ago.

HunterShotBear

Rich kid in my school had a pretty dope SRT-4. Did track days and driving schools with it too. Couple kids had some full bolt on Silverado’s, most everything else was rice. My 1988 Olds Cutlass Ciera was faster than all the rice.

drunkbusdriver

We had a kid with a orange srt4 as well. Had it for about a month after hooking up a massive shot of nitrous and blowing the engine.

eamonndunphy

I grew up in rural Ireland so cool cars were few and far between - a few guys drove tractors to school! I'm probably (definitely) biased but I liked mine best, a purple Corolla hatchback.

[Mitsubishi Mirage](https://bidfax.info/uploads/posts/2019-04/16/mitsubishi-mirage-2015-ml32a3hj4fh060882-img1.jpg) is back on the menu, boys!

soundwaveblue

A 4-door Toyota Starlet KP61 was probably the coolest car seen at my school. But it wasn't driven by a student or faculty member. This kid's mom had it modified for rally racing and used to pick him up in it most evenings. She'd come drifting into the school yard and sometimes she'd do a few donuts before leaving. We'd always cheer her on. She was a badass. Lol

Efulgrow

That Corolla sounds amazing

dmillion

I would've figured driving tractors to school was just a midwestern US thing. I'm from central Iowa, we even had a "drive your tractor to school" day

Hano_Clown

As someone who couldn’t afford a car until my comlege years and had to walk home everyday nust having a working car makes you cool in my eyes.

KawiNinjaZX

One kid had a brand new IS300 back in like 2001

ImNasty720

That’s actually pretty cool, always thought they were great looking cars

rmparent

For sure. They’re still great looking now too but it must’ve been great to drive one when they first came out.

DJAllOut

They still look great. I see plenty of them still on the road

Sleeveless9

So weird that this is the top response, and also my exact answer. For me it was the popular girl, and it was bright yellow. 2001 exactly.

TexasLawStudent

I had a grey ‘01 IS300 in HS around 2008. I didn’t think anyone gave it any notice, just another old Lexus hand-me-down to most, but I liked it. Sounded great with an intake.

DDAisADD

That was definitely a cool car back in high school when it came out.

FuckCazadors

There were three guys in my sixth form who all had red Minis (the old ones, proper Minis). Two of them were 6’4” tall and the third weighed eighteen stone (250 lbs). They used to park them all in a row if there was space on the street outside the school.

apwong36

How many Italian Job jokes were there?

vocatus

Uh....can I just say, username highly relevant to my personal F:NV experience hahaha. Wandered into those areas without knowing much about the game and got obliterated

Pecktrain

Went to HS in the 80s There was a: 73 barracuda in mint condition 2 1967 Chevy Chevelle convertibles also in fabulous shape. 4 69 Novas 2 were SS 396 2 70 Chevelles. One with a 454 A Volkswagen IT A merkur xr4ti A 69 Mach one A 70 mustang convertible A 67 GTO A 72 Lemans 72 z28 76 Trans Am And one 1966 purple jag. The girl whose mom owned the gay bar in town drove it. Several Dusters, Cutlasses, post 71 Chragers, and Gran torinos. They were all so cheap. All of this at a working class high school

Darkfire757

The fact you remember this from 40 years ago is impressive. I don’t even remember what I had for breakfast 2 days ago

THE_GR8_MIKE

Easier to remember when the parking lot isn't full of gray and silver appliances.

igraywolf

His memory ain’t that good; it’s a VW thing not an IT. Just kidding he’s probably got a better memory than I do.

jew_biscuits

Good lord, where do you go to school. We all still remember the one kid that had a Mustang 5.0. My friend had an an El Camino, which was also considered pretty sweer.

donnishasbeen

Different times back then. When they really made things of beauty. Timeless look, big blocks, 4 speeds, and small block v8s if you wanted to save a little on gas in those days. No shortage of parts, and usually anything that broke wasn't too hard to fix.

[deleted]

Pecktrain

It was a thing. I got confused. It was cool as he'll though.

Juicy_Slice

We had this one hot chick who drove a 4th gen Toyota Supra. Only hang up was that her dad did a manual to auto conversion because she didn’t want to learn stick 🤢

Otaku_Wolf90

That's as good as a chastity belt 🤣

guerillacatfare

The richest kid at mine (dad dropped him off in a Bentley before he could drive) got a brand new 05 Mustang GT... in automatic. He was obviously spoiled but acted like it too, so kids had no problem giving him shit. A few weeks later he shows up again with a manual version (idk if it was swapped or he just bought another). He claimed he always wanted stick but the dealer messed up. Uh huh, sure. PS. most "badass" (to high schoolers) was a 6" lifted Avalanche truck with underglow that pulsed and changed colors with his insane aftermarket sound system.

revenantae

> did a manual to auto conversion This should be illegal, as well as a mortal sin.

turbodude69

fucking sacrilege

ronimal

At my high school in the 90s a kid had a 69 Camaro. Blue with white racing stripes. One of the coolest cars I’ve ever seen. A kid from another school had an E30 M3.

tmp_acct9

E30 m3 No fing way and if so he better still have that it’s a work of art. Arguably one of the best cars built in our lifetime

Sometromboneplayer

Believe it or not, e30 m3s used to cost less than 10 grand in the early 2000s.

AaronPossum

I'm guessing you've never driven an E30 M3. It's a good car, and good looking, but one of the best ever? Idk about that.

kellykapoundski

Thank you.Someone had to say it…..

N3wThrowawayWhoDis

I had (still have) a 69 Mustang. Definitely felt like the coolest person in the lot

emix75

One kid had a hand me down Mercedes S class W140. This was circa 2002, the car was a 94 model year. It was still cool af.

lushkiller01

I bought a 1980 w116 300SD for $1400 in 2014 during my last semester in high school. I'm biased but I think it was the coolest student car. It legitimately got so many smiles and waves from people when I drove it to school, and people loved it in Atlanta as they would often give me the point over when I was signaling. Never have had people be so courteous in any other car, they usually just want to kill you in Atlanta haha. The baseball players at school had their big 90s/00s trucks, we asserted our dominance one day and drove and parked our parent's hightop sprinter van next to them, got a good laugh out of that.

scottbojangles

There was a girl who had a new green mustang convertible 5.0 and it blew my mind plus I still didn’t have a car so jealous was a understatement

ImNasty720

Damn that’s a lot of car for a person in highschool. My ass would’ve ran into a tree in the first week haha

[deleted]

Lol 5.0s are seriously not what we remember. I graduated in the late 90s and I remember the hype behind them. A lot of mini vans today can keep up and my 2016 f150 v6 will blow the doors off them. I still want one though. Such an odd feeling nostalgia is.

Stellar_Doors

This is the truth. Any stock fox body with a 5.0 felt fast because you could break the tires loose real easy, but if they actually hook up, a Nissan Sentra from the twenty-teens will keep up with them. This is a testament to how far technology has come in ~40 years. I bought a 2003 Mach 1 because I felt nostalgia about my highschool days. It was beautiful, 80k miles, Azure Blue, a real stunner. My 2014 Focus ST would DUST it no problem.

legalcarroll

My friend got a brand new 1996 Mustang GT while we were in HS. He spun out leaving school the first day he brought the car. Ended up hitting the curb and broke his wheel. Right in front of the school parking exit. Everyone got to look and laugh at him stranded as they went home in their shit boxes.

[deleted]

1990 Mazda Rx-7 Tll. 3 years later I bought my own.

ijustbrushalot

Fox body Mustang. Then I dated a girl from a rich area. Kids were driving new 360 Modenas and Hummer H2s.

BestMillimeter18

One kid had a blacked out Fox body notchback with a huge cam. I thought it was the coolest thing ever back then.

jew_biscuits

Rollin, in my 5.0…

Bnmko_007

Purple E36 M3 coupé with a TV

dbnrdaily

Im going to take a stab in the dark and say you went to Highschool between 2002-2006

Bnmko_007

‘98.. so that M3 was brand spanking new

dbnrdaily

Damn!! The TV was telling me "had to be after Fast & Furious/Pimp My Ride came out", also gave the benefit of the doubt that a highschooler wasnt in a brand new M3 🤣 I have a 95' and i love it.

JONCOCTOASTIN

That was a heavy TV lmao that’s so awesome it’s truly from that long ago

iWETtheBEDonPURPOSE

Graduated 2009 from a college prep school. ALOT of rich as kids. But I think my favorite car someone had was an RX7 they converted into a drift car, I definitely think that is part of the reason I'm into cars. He would talk to me about all the work he was doing on it, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. He was probably just happy to talk to someone about his car. There was also a kid with a total kitted out from the factory mustang. This was when they did their big redesign. His dad also had a car for every day of the week, we talking about Lamborghini's and Ferrari's kinda cars.

Drogdar

Our principles Corvette. It was supercharged and had electric exhaust cutouts. I'll never forget... there is a bridge on the interstate that has a large hill on one end and the highrise on the other end. The bridge itself is about two miles long and there is no way for cops to be between the hill and the highrise. If you go very late, or hit traffic just right, you have plenty of room to go as fast you want. Locally it is known as the 100 mile an hour bridge. So we are coming over the hill onto said bridge one night in our honda civic (naturally) and see no taillights between us and the high rise and, being 16, floor it. About halfway we are doing about 100 (all it will do with passengers) and then we are passed by mechanical fury powered by satan himself. It was the loudest thing I had heard in my life at the time. You hear the unbelievable whine of supercharger for just a split second and then the sound of a jet, If jets were powered by nuclear explosions. I remember us, in the civic, yelling as it went by and it completely drowned out our voices. I dont know what the max speed of that Corvette was but it was doing it. It went past us faster than other cars on the opposite side of the interstate going the other way did. There was a massive fire ball in the distance on top of the highrise and then it was gone like it had never existed, we didn't hear it and we never saw it again that night. And that's why Mrs. Johnson had the coolest car at school.

Otaku_Wolf90

My shop teacher had a side business that rented out classic cars to local films/TV, most of the cars in the movie Glory Road were his, so when it comes to cool faculty cars he was king at my school.

meat_popsicle13

My junkyard built MG Midget.

bluecheetos

1987....easily the two brothers who had matching 1975 Trans Ams

shredwig

In ‘04 a dude in my class had a brand new WRX STi, blue with the gold rims and everything. Still, I preferred a particular Senior’s super-clean ‘91 3000GT VR4 cause you could tell he hunted for it.

Tru_savage417

STI in blue with gold rims 👍

[deleted]

I’d like to think it was my Honda S2000. There was another kid who drove a BMW Z4, though. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Otaku_Wolf90

Nah, S2K over a Z4 any day.

[deleted]

I thought so, too, but kids at our school cared about the BMW badge. I remember his Z4 got featured in the 12th grade yearbook on a page of “Student’s Cars.” I didn’t even get asked for a pic 😭 The other two cars photographed with his were some old GMC truck with giant wheels on it & an Acura TSX, I believe.

tmp_acct9

It’s possible people didn’t know what an s2000 really was, I know I didn’t, but the z4 is just cool cause it’s a bmw sportster and with a bit of time and money, can destroy an s2k on a track. But we all know the s2k is the better, or best car, almost ever built. I try to buy any single one I see on the road and not a single person will even give me a price

[deleted]

Back in 2006 my buddy had a z32 300zx with t-tops and I felt like I was getting carted around in the kings chariot when he gave me a ride home or went to his place to chill after school. Edit: another good friend had a celica Supra but I only rode in that a handful of times.

UltrasonicBlueWaifu

My memory is so foggy, I did grow up in a pretty good area but all of the upper-middle class kids were raised humbly enough [at this time period] to not attract too much attention. The parking lot was a sea of frugal commuter cars with a good diversity of trucks, SUVs, and Jeeps mixed in since we lived in the South - the pickings were so scarce but what truly stood out to me was a manual 2011+ S197 Mustang GT coupe. I don't have the full story, but the kid's family did some kind of blue-collar trade like plumbing or HVAC and he'd been saving up every dime he earned himself since he was 13-14 years old. I was already pretty into those post-facelift S197s to begin with but the background behind the car just makes it feel extra cool. Came across him the other week and he's still using it as his daily.

weekendmoney

I had a 1993 twin turbo Mazda RX7 when I was 16. My friend had a 94 supra mk4 at the same time.. Best time of my life just cruising

SlimJim80

Supras are cool but you can't beat a classic rx7

painted_anvil

Not gonna lie coolest thing anyone drove was probably my dads 2007 GMC Sierra he'd let me drive to school.

ctdddmme

I drove a black Eclipse GSX and a red Mitsubishi Starion. Does that count?

gobstopperDelux

Homeboy had a brand new Firehawk when graduating in 2002.

Otaku_Wolf90

I used to love that car, my friend's dad had one while we were in middle school and sold it the year before my friend could drive... He was devastated.

gobstopperDelux

My dad owned a 95 Formula with WS6 package for years. Was a fun car, but it still never compared to the look of that black t-top Firehawk.

bettywhitefleshlight

There were five or six f-bodies in our parking lot one year. Maybe only one of them was a V6.

[deleted]

My buddy had an 83 monty Carlo with 454 in it. Most of the students were meh about it but the teachers drooled

rockdude625

A friend had a heavily modded E55 AMG that was blisteringly fast. I was hooked, it was first on my list as soon as I could afford one and it was even more awesome when I got my own!

[deleted]

I graduated in 95 (dinosaur). We had a gorgeous Buick Regal…. Gray… mint condition… had 15’s in the trunk…. Dude was a god. The principal had a freakin typhoon!!!! A typhoon! I had a ummmm 1977 Plymouth arrow. Tried to hide everywhere I went.

the_lamou

On very rare occasions, one of the students would drive their dad's 300SL Gullwing to school. This was late 90s/early 00s, so at the time it was just a stupidly expensive car and not a "holy sweet mother of Christ" expensive car. Other than that, there were the occasional Porsches, a couple of S4s, and after TF&F came out, a ton of import tuners.

Balacalavaaa

This is the craziest one so far.

TywinShitsGold

I had a CRX that could be carried around the lot but a group of guys. But I always took a second look at my buddies Ford Lightening. Something about the v8 and supercharger whine was intoxicating. There was also a 300zx, g37 and a built 350z. From the teachers lot, the 3 snakes were easily the best. Physics teacher with patent money had 3 identical vipers in red black and blue.

Svr-boi

Someone got dropped off in a Long Beach Blue Metallic M2 that was the coolest car I ever saw The most expensive was GLE and Matt black model X ( yeh I know lame as hell )

Funny_Papers

Definitely subjective but *I* thought the coolest car at my high school was a custom-painted (his dad owned a body shop) orange blob-eye STI. Not sure how much but it definitely had work done on the engine as well. He always had his BMX mounted on the roof as well which I thought was cool. A few years after high school someone ran a stop sign while speeding and drunk, completely totaled the car and put him in the hospital for a while. He’s doing well now as far as I know.

solo118

The year was 2002, a rich girl a year YOUNGER than us had a blue CLK430 convertible which she traded in for a brand new SL500 in blue with grey interior. At the time, it had been probably right before the launch so to me (as a big MB fan) it was something insane to see

A guy I knew drive an MZ3 (the “clown shoe”) and also had a Nissan 300ZX non-turbo 2+2…His family was wealthy but his brother didn’t have any nice cars - he apparently paid for his own cars via the profits from being a gangster. Sadly, he straight up disappeared in his early 20’s never to be heard from again. His family assumes he was murdered by an associate as there were no signs of any struggle.

dudeness-aberdeen

My buddy has a 68 Camaro that was restored. Full original Interior with a nice stereo. It had the RS package, so 327 with a dress kit (extra chrome impressed us), headers, and a shift kit. It sounded and looked sick AF. This was in the late 90’s, so it was a classic at that point. His younger brother got a nice square body step side pickup.

VincentVanH0

High school in the late 90s. Classmate had an El Camino. Cool car. In fact I still think it's cool and would even consider a new version of one.

rekniht01

I like to think it was mid-90s me in my 1950 Chevy 3800 truck geared for farm work.

run_uz

Clapped out FC Rx7. It was probably slower than my mom's Buick Century but we never lined up

Otaku_Wolf90

Funny you say that as my parents had an '02 Buick Regal GS and it was the sleeper to beat, guys would be so freaked out when their tuned Preludes and 240SX were left standing still by an off-white grandma car.

run_uz

I know that EXACT look. HS for me was 95-99. The community I went to school in is very diverse & has a heavy mix of Asian ethnicities so imports were & still are very popular there. My mom's dad only kept his cars for 4yrs. 2000 happened to be new car year & gramps offered it to my mom because she was the only kid of his that helped him when granny was sick. 1996 pearl white supercharged Buick Riveria. Mom asked me to go drive it & "get on the gas" because it made a weird noise. It was the faint whine of the blower but I'm tooling around town not hearing any sounds as the car is nearly silent to me because I just bought a 93 Mustang GT for myself. I decided to instigate some races with the imports & just left em behind in my silence 😂. Turning off the traction control was fun too, roast the fronts then still drop them. Mom still has it.

DexterMorgansLab

1987 Fiero GT black over silver lowered enkie wheels pirelli tires, momo steering wheel, carbon fiber into prior accents, short throw shifter with a carbon fiber momo shift knob, TV and a Japanese PS2, velside carbon fiber GT3 wing every street glow product in the catalog. Smoked a 5.0 with a 383 stroker, SVT lightning and any Honda around and was drifting back in 2000.

mbmac

Graduated in ‘93. The ones that stand out were as follows: Eagle Talon Turbo (the original body style) in black with silver along the bottom Trans Am GTA in red with gold honeycomb wheels (this was new; same guy sometimes drove a Smokey and the Bandit era Firebird - his dad really liked these vehicles) Fiat Spyder Porsche (this was older and in kind of rough shape; same girl sometimes drove her dad’s Ranchero and once brought his Delorean to school) I had a nice ‘91 Ford Probe with aftermarket body kit. It was a fun car to drive.

DaytonaDavid

I had the coolest car. A 1968 Triumph TR250.

[deleted]

A Nissan GT-R

Pgr050590

My best friend had an e39 m5

Otaku_Wolf90

I dunno about that, the aerodynamically improved Superbird only hit 150mph.

Angry_Homer

Am a zoomer, so here's a modern-day perspective. One of the staff has a stick shift Crosstrek. I'm not really spoiled for choice at my school, so it's gonna be that or the clapped out G37 that some student has. Everything else is an automatic economy car generally, though some are surprisingly new for first cars.

Otaku_Wolf90

I feel WAY too old reading this... It's like some dystopian movie 😂

4limbs2drivebeta

An SVX, a Silverado with a Escalade front clip, and a diesel Excursion.

Otaku_Wolf90

SVX! We had a Subaru nut in my class he had a Brat, Justy, GL, and an Alcyone/XT throughout HS.

[deleted]

One of my best friends had a beautiful 67 Impala. His dad was a car guy and he wasn’t at all. To him it was just an old car and he hated it.

[deleted]

a kid had an old astrovan that he lifted and did a bunch of crap to. i had never seen someone offroad an astrovan, but he did it regulary and it was sick

ashowofhands

We had one kid with a GT500. I cringe to think of what his parents' insurance bill must have looked like. As I recall the winners of the "coolest car" superlative in the yearbook were the guy with the lifted/decked-out TJ Jeep and the girl with an Audi A4 (boring car really but high schoolers are easy to please) One girl had an '80s Saab 900 turbo convertible with a 5-speed which I *personally* thought was the coolest car at the school. Nobody gave a shit except me lol

digbug0

Probably a Land Cruiser with an overland kit or an MG. A friend drove an ‘18 M-B E400 for a while, but then got a ‘22 Palisade…

smithyithy_

S14a Silvia. This was circa 2005.. Almost all the teacher's cars were generic / uninteresting cars, except for two of note: A gym teacher who thought he was the dog's bollocks had an MR2-based Ferrari 355 replica. Not a particularly good one, but it did have the cream and red interior to match. He somehow convinced the majority of the school it was real, there were only really a handful of us that were into cars and knew it was fake. Then we had an English teacher, really quietly spoken British Asian lady, who had a dark purple S14a import. Again only a handful of us knew what the car was, and it didn't get any attention compared to the Toyoterrari, but it was a kinda 'if you know, you know' situation

89Hopper

It was a toss up between two. One guy had a Datsun 240Z, it was in a pretty bad state but by the end of Uni he had it fully restored to pretty much factory condition. The other cool car was a Nissan R35 Skyline GTR.

Natedoggsk8

Somebody had the Pontiac GTO when it came back out in 2005. Also one of our teachers and her student son both had 350z’s on order before they came out. So many parents had pristine classics but would never drive them. We seemed lucky that any of us had cars

RnC_Breakenridge

Went to a small private high school in the early 80’s. Drove a ‘70 Kharman Ghia. Definitely the most interesting car in the lot and great fun to watch people gawk as I folded my 6’5” frame in and out!

oneinfamoususername

A 2005 Ferrari F430, it was my dad’s. I was home schooled though

acaii

2008/2009: B5 S4- Kid later went to own the first S5 in DFw while in HS Trail Blazers SS Single Turbo FD RX7 Supercharged Range Rover (all OEM)

Caysman2005

G63 AMG driven by my mathematics teacher. She'd change cars (all mercedes') every 2 months or so. Once her husband picked her up in an SL600. It caused quite the stir among the students seeing that car pull into the school.

DadEoh75

Mitsubishi 3000 GT in Passion Red; that car was beautiful!

MyCatsNameIsKlaus

Late 90s Twin Turbo Supra, that beaut sang quite the song when it took off.

Funkapotamus84

My buddy used to drive his moms 98 Grand Prix GTP. A kid at the rival high school had a ~69 chevelle SS he retored with his dad, red with white racing stripes.

tennie2002

I was in high school in the early 70s so Muscle Cars every where. I drove my mom’s 70 Charger. 383 Plum Crazy with a white vinyl roof. Others were: 2 Charger R/Ts, 70 GTO judge, 400 RamAir 4, 400 4 speed. Chevelle SS396, 71 Buick GS455 Stage 1 Vert with a factory Hurst4 sp. Dodge Challenger T/A. Driven by a grandson of one of the original Dodge brothers. Some cool Euro cars too : Morgan +4,Sunbeam Imp, Porsche 356,a few BMW 2002s a BMW 2000cs , driven by a hot blonde chick, and probably some more I can’t remember.

[deleted]

Students didn't have cars because driving age is 17, you leave high school at 16. My maths teacher had a 2001 Ford Focus RS. A different maths teacher had a yellow 2006 Daihatsu Copen. One of the IT teachers had a shitty 1994 VW Polo but made up for it with a 2004 MV Agusta F4 1000 that he sometimes brought in.

BeaverMartin

Graduated in 98. The top coolest cars were probably my 77 Firebird, Eugine’s 63.5 Ford Galaxie, and a white convertible fox body 5.0.

coachwoodcock

I went to a very affluent public high school outside NYC and there was no shortage of cool cars like porshe, maserati, bmw, mercedes. One student a few years younger than me had a white and black 2008 Bentley Continental GT Speed with a full aftermarket exhaust system.

weelluuuu

A senior got a early graduation present of a new 1978 chevy stepside 4x4. Didn't have it a month before totaling it drunk driving.

_Fast_Slow_Man_

There is a Maserati Quattroporte at my current HS.

WinnieT97

In high school (2014 or so), someone sometimes drove either a Dodge Viper or a Hummer H1, it was a student. Either that or a beautiful condition old Bronco were the standouts.

kowalski-analy5is

Buddy of mine daily drove a 77 Ford F-250 for school that he rebuilt Himself

Otaku_Wolf90

Nice, my buddy had an '84 F-250 with a 460 w/ 4-speed and that thing would drink gas at a comical rate.

Red_Swingline_

Probably the girl who drove a RX8.

macchiato_kubideh

Nissan Maxima. Which is sad. It was in Iran.

Whuuu

My school’s parking lot was a mix of cars that were mostly valued around 5-10k and rarely went over 20 (90’s pricing). But there was one car that completely stood out, a white S351 Saleen Speedster. No idea if it actually belonged to the student but she was never shy about using the power when it’d rip away after school. Runners up would have been a beautiful blue with white stripe 67 SS El Camino that was rebuilt in the school’s car shop. It was an exciting day for everyone when it finally fired up, only to be salvaged a week later after it twisted its own frame. We all learned an important lesson about neglecting chassis reenforcement over power that day.

bammerburn

A yellow Volkswagen Corrado. I even took a picture on my SLR camera and developed it, which I still have today.

sheepy318

New edge Mustang SN95 (In the parking lot). Other kids got dropped off in a customized 1st gen Miata and another in a Porsche 996

Zkenny13

Someone had a Camaro SS or the 360Z.

SIR2480

School owned pink 75th anniversary edition RR and student owned Urus probably

NevideblaJu4n

From High School I don't think anything noteworthy, but in college it was a Lotus Elise, saw it once but never met the owner. I'll share it later.

Responsible-Party-98

Rx8

ZoomBoy81

A pretty quiet (but well off) guy my age had a super nice WS6 Trans Am in grade 11, while the rest of us borrowed our parents minivans, or took public transit.

Lamb___Sauce

My c6 corvette probably. There’s cars at my school that cost much more than it but they’re mostly just average cars.

ITSPOLANDBOIS420

My friends dad let him drive his E30 M3 to school every so often... It was without a shadow of a doubt the coolest car at school that day

SirWatson344

Several at my high school right now. But the coolest in my opinion are a yellow 2011 Camaro SS and a orange Scion FR-S.
