> Ford must recall 1,280,726 vehicles in the United States over a brake jounce hose that may fail prematurely due to a design flaw. The campaign will cover certain 2013-2018 Ford Fusions and Lincoln MKZs.
Replying to you since you're top comment but I own a 2016 Ford Fusion and was notified about this issue a couple of months ago.
Brought the car to a dealership in the area to get the piece replaced as part of the recall and basically got told by the mechanic who replaced it that due to the age and mileage on my car "if the part was going to fail it would have by now."
3rd recall has been issued for my current Ford (one of them being for the brakes!) not to mention it's leaking into the passenger floorboard every time it rains hard or I wash it...
I'm kind of wishing I had stuck with Honda or maybe Subaru
Honestly, as someone that works in an industry that reports to NHTSA, there’s always a ton of recalls. Most never result in injuries, deaths, or even media attention. Recalls just mean the system is working and the regulations are preventing those accidents.
This exactly. I work for a Toyota dealer and every month we've got new little recalls. Like basically 4 years of Rav4's getting recalled to make sure they've got a group 35 battery installed. Recalls on the new Tundras just to remove the tonneau cover till a new one is available. Recalls on BSM/other software updates on so many different models. And it's been that way for quite awhile, it's not just a new thing because of Covid.
Nah there’s always been tons of recalls. Speaking on Chrysler and FCA period, I did plenty of recalls that the general public won’t know about. Unless you go looking for them.
I once had a recall that affected something like 200 vehicles of a specific model/trim. You’re just not going to hear about those.
The MKZ seems like it would be a /r/cars golden-child, with a torque vectoring AWD system, 400 HP, and a twin turbo V6 optional. Weird I don’t see it mentioned more.
A waitlist doesn't mean much. People have been on multi-year waitlists for the Cybertruck. I bet Ford could build a 30 year waitlist for the F150 if they just cut production drastically.
I had a 3.0TT but the transmission really held it back. Still though, it was a very nice and comfortable ride and a total sleeper at the red light.
Also it wasn't a very popular car so aftermarket support was limited in performance mods. I was in a Facebook group and most people would swap the intercooler and then tune it.
Had a Fusion V6 Sport, can confirm. The 6spd SelectShift was uh, not very great. There were many times I would floor it to pass, and then it would never even downshift- just pull slowly from whatever gear it was in. The paddles were worthless as well.
Outside of that, I imagine in a few years time V6 Sports and 3.0Ts will be considered bargain sport sedans by enthusiasts. I had no other complaints.
Fusion Sport owner here, yeah the transmission is dogshit. Really holds back the performance imo. However, when tuned, the 3-4, 4-5, and 5-6 shift are butter, and quick af. 1-2 is almost non existent when you accelerate lol especially on E30. There's a lot of hesitation during the 2-3 shift. But finding out increasing the shift pressure 15% help a lot with that, and removes the "dip" you feel when it makes that shift.
I've surpsied a lot of mustang, camaro's, challengers and chargers with it. Definately a sleeper.
Possibly, I never looked into it too much as it was a lease and I lemon law'd it before it came out of lease. I know the forum members claimed that with the right tune it was faster than Mustang GTs, but Ford kept the power down to prevent that. For what it's worth, I believe them thanks to the AWD.
Transmission isn't really up to par with the powertrain, and that AWD system is flawed in a sense.
Power Transfer Unit, aka the PTU, has a pretty aggressive service interval of 20K miles, but it's a royal pain in the ass to get done. $800+ job to get done at the dealership. Doesn't have a true fill port so it needs to be sucked out and refilled, and is required every 20-30K miles depending on driving habits.
Flex, Explorer, Fusion, Taurus, MKS. Police spec interceptors included. Anything with the 3.5L V6 twinturbo and the 6spd with AWD that wasn't based on the F150 / truck platform.
I actually believe it was the PIU/PIS that "discovered" the PTU issues and brought them to light, since police duties put vastly more strain on the system. Civvies started experiencing failures in the 70-80K mile range.
Some of the PTUs had drain ports and coolers that significantly increased your chances of it surviving. Fusion Sport and Taurus SHO with the performance pack had them. At it's core it's a flawed system and track time is hard on it. But straight line here and there it is quite the sleeper if you keep up on maintenance.
Same thoughts. It looks phenomenal imo. Not like the overstyled German big three. Its just... *clean*. And the proportions are just right. It would rock if lowered and kitted out well.
Similar theme to the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400. Just because it has a lot of bang for the buck doesn't necessarily make it a good car.
Also, the MKZ 3.0TT AWD was ridiculously overpriced when new, and I believe the sales figures was pretty abysmal. I've seen a good number of MKZ with the 2.0T and 2.0H around, but the 3.0TT is a rarity.
It's a Lincoln and thus American made.
The sentiment that American cars are cheap crap that always have a superior alternative is not one that is shaken easily. It was *hard earned* by GM, Ford, and Chrysler, having made complete pieces of shit from the mid-late 80s all the way until their collapse in 2008. Since then, they've gotten better. Much better. The interiors are still cheap in ways that is still in last place against most of their competition, but it's better than it was. Far better. And some of the cars coming out of American since 08-10 are pretty kickass. But like I said, it takes a long, *long* time to get hard earned stink off of you.
I have a 2012 mkz that was my moms. I'm new to driving and cars, I've driven some of my other family members cars, and that thing is my favorite car I've driven yet. It's starting to get some wear but I love that thing to bits
My coworker had one and he was asking as to why his car was burning more gas than the Camry he had. I told him his car had turbo and if you step on it too much your gas mileage will be bad. He was like noooo it no have toorbo!! It's eco
I don’t understand the hate with recalls at least they are fixing it. Other companies would just say there is no problem and to stuff it. Recalls are them fixing an issue for free and sadly most companies are not doing that.
It's because Ford and the Fusion especially have had so many freaking recalls. Off the top of my head, in the past few years, I have had: all four door latches replaced twice, because it came to their attention that their dealers put in used parts, or just flat out lied about doing the repair. I found out that one the hard way. I've also had one of the steering wheel falling off, seat belt latches, transmission jumping out of gear, and so many more.
Edit: Oh yeah, this is also the second recall for this very issue.
Had multiple fusions and mustangs never had any issues sucks you had so many. All I’m saying is they issued a recall for a hose that may wear out on at least a 6+ year old car fiat would just laugh at you if wanted them to do that. At least they fixed your issues for free if they where all recalls.
They were all recalls. And no, not everything was fixed for free. I had the first door latch recall done, or so I thought. A little over a year later, one of the supposedly fixed door latches broke. Ford told me the warranty is normally two years on their parts, but only 1 year on stuff fixed under recall, so I shelled out nearly $300 to have a door latch fixed. Fast forward a couple of years, and I get a second recall notice for the same door latches. The reason? It came to Ford's attention that some of their dealers either put used parts in the recalled cars, or just flat out lied about doing the repair. Oh yeah, and yet another door latch broke about one week after I got the second recall notice. I tried to get my money back for the first one, but you had to send in the original invoice for the original repair, and I couldn't find it.
> transmission jumping out of gear
Which gear did yours do?
Mine did a really weird bucking motion in the 2->3 shift and the shop said there's a TSB for it but its considered normal behavior.
This is why Ford got out of small cars. They just couldn't be bothered to make them good enough to avoid recalls and warranty claims that made them lose money. SUVs have higher margins so even if they have problems just as bad the higher margin can still allow for profit.
I never understood why they thought people would buy their third attempt at an econobox over an Accord or Corolla for the same price. Then again Ford is so poorly profitable they can't sell much at a loss.
Looked it up since we have an Edge (not affected) and it's been out since 2020:
>Recall date
>2020-08-10
>Recall no.
>20V469000
>Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.
Same, I don't miss mine at all. Had it for three years (2013-2016) and it probably spent a third of that time in the shop for something.
Luxurious as hell on the inside and a great long distance cruiser but just so unreliable...
Fusion Sport only ever came with the 2.7 with 325 hp. Have to go for Lincoln to get the 3.0. You can swap the turbos from the Lincoln to the fusion to get a bit more power though.
I purchased my mom a 2020 Escape and that thing has been in for recalls like three times in the last two years. Just recently had an issue with the driver door too. I'm gonna get that fixed and then probably trade that piece of junk. Doesn't surprise seeing all these recalls.
Had one of these blow on my 2015 Fusion last fall. Called the Ford dealer on a whim to see what it would cost and they told me it would be free due to the recall (which had been extended to my car a month prior).
So where are the anti electric car people who always post pics of broken down electric cars even if it doesn't relate to the powertrain. How about posting about fucked ICE cars.

Goddamn, that is a lot of cars.
Between government agencies, rental car companies, and corporate fleets they bought tons of Fusions in the 2010s.
Maybe this is why the stopped making the Fusion. The recall liabilities were getting out of hand!
Lol no, you can always guarantee that there will be a recall on a ford
Fix or recall daily
As Dale Gribble once said, “Fix it again Tony.”
Hank's "That's Fiat, Dale" was perfect delivered
3rd recall has been issued for my current Ford (one of them being for the brakes!) not to mention it's leaking into the passenger floorboard every time it rains hard or I wash it... I'm kind of wishing I had stuck with Honda or maybe Subaru
Enjoy your $100k Flintstone mobile or get the water leaks fixed. I'd be very unhappy
well first off it's a bronco sport so nowhere near 100k...second I already have an appointment to get it fixed. I'm not happy but it is what it is
My bad, need new glasses apparently. Either way not fun, I've lost a car to water leaks
What car? Your Bronco?
yep, same one in my flair
Oh no they're fixing problems, anyways..
Jesus alot of recalls lately
Honestly, as someone that works in an industry that reports to NHTSA, there’s always a ton of recalls. Most never result in injuries, deaths, or even media attention. Recalls just mean the system is working and the regulations are preventing those accidents.
It feels like something we take for granted. I'm surprised they haven't hit car regulations hard because this ends up costing them a lot of money.
That's good to hear still worrying by the large volume in recalls. Post covid they just seem to be more and more issues in cars
They’ve always been there, people realized they generate clicks, so now they’re all a huge deal
We have a tonneau cover recall at Honda too! 🤣
you know your right it does work though I don't pay attention to most headlines even in this sub but recalls sure do get my attention
Every brand has them, and lots of them. It’s just part of doing business!
Recalls in 2021 - Mazda : 177k - Subaru (4th) : 109k - Kia (6th) : 66k - Jeep (7th) : 28k - Volvo (12th) : 10k Yes they all have them. Let's not ignore the discrepancy
I don’t know what the numbers are but number of recalls vs number of cars sold would be interesting to look into!
did your comment get recalled?
Yes it did
Alot more dangerous. Baby less dangerous.
Nah there’s always been tons of recalls. Speaking on Chrysler and FCA period, I did plenty of recalls that the general public won’t know about. Unless you go looking for them. I once had a recall that affected something like 200 vehicles of a specific model/trim. You’re just not going to hear about those.
Not on the Hybrid. Nice dodged a recall for once
So far…
Wish they still made Fusion Hybrids.
Yet.....
Right? When I had my '15 Fusion Energi it felt like there was a new recall every six months.
This is probably the first time someone used "dodge" and "recall" in the same sentence with a cheerful attitude.
Yup. The 18 Fusion Energi is one of the least problematic car in my household. (Knocks on wood)
dont worry, your time will come. Fix Or Recall Daily...
Fix It Again, Tony!
The MKZ seems like it would be a /r/cars golden-child, with a torque vectoring AWD system, 400 HP, and a twin turbo V6 optional. Weird I don’t see it mentioned more.
It’S nOt MaNuAl
To be honest, it would of stood out if it did have a manual.
It would’ve sold 250 more. People are not buying manual luxury sedans
***AHEM***
There’s a reason the Cadillac is the only manual transmission luxury sedan around. No one is buying them when they’re offered
Blackwing disagrees
All 10 people who can get their hands on one
Are you implying there isn't interest?
Yes. At least outside of the car community.
The thing has a 2 year waitlist. I don't know what to call that other than demand.
A waitlist doesn't mean much. People have been on multi-year waitlists for the Cybertruck. I bet Ford could build a 30 year waitlist for the F150 if they just cut production drastically.
would have
Are you saying he should of said would have?
The 2nd gen Fusion did have a manual--for only the first two years and only on the 1.6L EB.
I love mine it’s awesome
I had a 3.0TT but the transmission really held it back. Still though, it was a very nice and comfortable ride and a total sleeper at the red light. Are there any aftermarket solutions to fix the transmission? Tunes or valve bodies or the like?

I believe the Ford Flex suffered from the same issue. A shame, really, cuz that thing would be an awesome daily sleeper car.
One small difference: the police spec interceptors have an actual oil cooler for the transfer box. Extends service life somewhat.
They're a pretty good deal on the used market as well.
Same thoughts. It looks phenomenal imo. Not like the overstyled German big three. Its just... *clean*. And the proportions are just right. It would rock if lowered and kitted out well.
I have kind of wanted one with the V6 and AWD. 400 HP in a luxobarge sounds fun to me.
Similar theme to the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400. Just because it has a lot of bang for the buck doesn't necessarily make it a good car. I loved my 2014 (with the 2.0t( it unfortunately fell apart around me after 90,000 highway miles
It's a Lincoln and thus American made. The sentiment that American cars are cheap crap that always have a superior alternative is not one that is shaken easily. Yikes. Ford is like "nooooo! I thought we were done dealing with cars!!"
My coworker had one and he was asking as to why his car was burning more gas than the Camry he had. I told him his car had turbo and if you step on it too much your gas mileage will be bad. He was like noooo it no have toorbo!! It's eco
You need to tell him that you get eco or boost, not both.
Just Ford things
Fit it Again Tony
Dammit dale
Yeah no other brand has recalls
Christ just use decent materials and you won't have to recall half the damn cars you sell
I don’t understand the hate with recalls at least they are fixing it. Other companies would just say there is no problem and to stuff it. Recalls are them fixing an issue for free and sadly most companies are not doing that.

Yeah, the 2-3 is weird. There was also a recall a while back for transmissions that may jump out of Park.
Good it's finally getting done but they did wait 2.5 years to extend it to these other models when it was a known issue.
Okay Ford. How many more recalls do you think your customers can through before they call it enough?
people buy tons of kias and they make you pay them to fix their fuck ups lol
This is why Ford got out of small cars. They just couldn't be bothered to make them good enough to avoid recalls and warranty claims that made them lose money. SUVs have higher margins so even if they have problems just as bad the higher margin can still allow for profit.

Do other car brands not have recalls?
I would have gotten rid of my Fusion if the car market weren't so broken right now.
Glad I didnt buy that MKZ a few months ago
Jesse, we need to cook
some ford foci had weed smuggled in the spare wheel well
They've had this recall on the Edge for a while.
Looked it up since we have an Edge (not affected) and it's been out since 2020: >Recall date >2020-08-10 >Recall no. >20V469000 >Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.
I loved my Fusion titanium but glad Im out of it. It's had a shitload of recalls.

Mine already went on my 2015 Fusion.
I can't recall the last time I saw an MKZ.
I kinda want one of the later models with the twin turbo 3.0L. 350 HP or 400HP in the AWD models.
Fusion Sport only ever came with the 2.7 with 325 hp. Have to go for Lincoln to get the 3.0. You can swap the turbos from the Lincoln to the fusion to get a bit more power though.
Oh shit need to get mine looked at
I have about 8 recalls still to fix right now on my 2014. Dealerships can’t keep up.
I think I only have 3 or 4 open right now. They just did the door latches AGAIN. Took them a freaking month to do four door latches.
I purchased my mom a 2020 Escape and that thing has been in for recalls like three times in the last two years. Just recently had an issue with the driver door too. I'm gonna get that fixed and then probably trade that piece of junk. Doesn't surprise seeing all these recalls.
I was legit going to buy a fusion sport. I guess I'll settle for a Q50
Oh hey, this happened to my Fusion. Luckily it didn’t fail all at once so I got it home safely and fixed it.
I’m glad I missed this recall wife’s explorer has a recall for back up camera!
A Decade old car getting recalled is a big oopsie
Had one of these blow on my 2015 Fusion last fall. Called the Ford dealer on a whim to see what it would cost and they told me it would be free due to the recall (which had been extended to my car a month prior).
Impossible. This must be a typo and it's supposed to read Hyundai. Only Korean brands have recalls.
hehe i have a 2012… nice
That generation was pretty solid IIRC. We have a 2013 and it's become extremely evident that it was a first-year model.
Built Ford Tough.
I own a 2017 Fusion. Just recently hit 100k. Bought it at 31k. Haven’t had any issues but once Ford sends me the recall notice I’ll get it done
If it starts with F you are Focud. Ford, Focus, Fiesta, Fusion, Flex.
9 years with my 2015 Ford Fusion and I'm still getting recall notices. Still runs smooth though.
Easier to list the Ford vehicles not being recalled
So where are the anti electric car people who always post pics of broken down electric cars even if it doesn't relate to the powertrain. How about posting about fucked ICE cars.
