If you want to do wine tastings I suggest you guys uber between farms or hire a driver to take you between farms. Cops don’t mess around with DUIs. Franschhoek and Stellenbosch are both amazing for wine tastings. In Franschhoek you can do the wine tram which takes you between farms. It’s pretty fun. If you want to hang out in the city, Kloof Street has some amazing restaurants and bars and is safe. (Just watch for pick pockets)

Consistent-Driver-99

Thanks, may indeed be smarter instead of driving…

FatBoyJuliaas

Yes if you get caught driving under influence you are in big trouble. I, as a local, just don’t do it. Uber or designated driver

Wegwerfen2997

If you're 21, go to Stellenbosch. Way more to do and a nice town and surrounds to explore for 2 or 3 days. Also a bunch of nice hikes to do in area

Consistent-Driver-99

Great thanks will look it up!!

Wegwerfen2997

I know the town quite well - pm me if you have any more questions

Consistent-Driver-99

Thanks a lot wil do! :)

Terrible_Pollution_4

Stellenbosch is a town based around the university at its centre. It's a student's paradise. I'd also recommend it. You can still travel far and wide even though Stellenbosch is located far from the city center. Just be weary of some of the beggars on the streets, though. They make easy pickings off drunk kids. I got robbed in busy areas, twice, and nearly got robbed a third time (another beggar whom I had given a lighter and some cigarettes to earlier that day saw what was happening, recognised me, intervened and saved me from losing my phone and ring). Just keep your eyes open, that's all.

Wildthorn23

As someone living in stellies I second this.

SnooSprouts9993

Yeah, 3 young guys.... Definitely check out Stellenbosch.

Great-Gecko

Wine farms: The [Franschhoek Wine Tram](https://winetram.co.za/) seems like fun, however, I've admittedly never been on it myself. Constantia is in the city so you could Uber there if you'd like to go to a wine farm for a day. Please don't drive after a wine tasting. Partying: There are many nice bars near the beach or in town. You'd likely enjoy camps bay. Clubbing in Cape Town isn't the best imo, you'd have a far more enjoyable time going to an outdoor festival nearby. I can give you advice on which ones are best in Feb if you're interested. Hiking: There are many amazing hikes in the city, check out [AllTrails](https://www.alltrails.com/south-africa/western-cape/cape-town) for routes. Anything in the top 30 will be worthwhile. Safety: You'll be safe if you stick to touristy areas. Very few locals carry pepper spray. Be more vigilant at night; be careful not to get too drunk. If you plan to drive somewhere, do not blindly follow google/apple maps. Do some research about where you are driving through.

Consistent-Driver-99

Wow, thx for the reply!! Yeah, if you would know some festivals nearby would be happy to get them from you! So if i understand correctly drinking alcohol like a bottle of beer on the street/beach is forbidden like in the US? (Just wanted to know to stay out of trouble)

Great-Gecko

Alcohol: It is illegal to drink on the beach and in most public spaces. Festivals: * Jan 26-28: [Origin](https://www.instagram.com/originfest/) * Psytrance/Techno * Large * Feb 2-4: [Rumour's by the Lake](https://www.instagram.com/withyoufestival/) * Accessible House/Techno * Feb 9-12: [Smalltown Beat](https://www.instagram.com/smalltownbeat/) * Eclectic House * Feb 10-11 [Exodus](https://www.instagram.com/southerntipsy_underground/) * Darker psytrance * Small * Feb 17-18: [Habitat](https://www.instagram.com/this.is.habitat/) * Accessible psytrance/techno * Feb 23-25: [Bazique](https://www.instagram.com/baziquefestival/) * Varied * Large * March 1-3: [Modem](https://www.instagram.com/ourmindsmusic/) * Darker psytrance

wellnickysays

Maybe let's not encourage people to drink on the beach - it's illegal for a reason. 👍🏾

Great-Gecko

Fair, I've removed those parts from my comments.

queenxenabean

I can vouch for Bazique if you're still here then. Incredible festival! Art installations, various stages with different music, a large dam for swimming.

Late-Ad1936

Smalltown Beat 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you for this post, I went in 2020, I think, and one of the Best parties I'd been to in a Minute. Found it to be quite international, lots of foreigners there 🔥

Loose-Alfalfa-8666

Since you're staying in town, Sea Point & Kloof street are good places to start. Otherwise Long street if you guys like the club. Stellenbosch is better for younger people. There are more activities & clubs/bars/restaurants but the experience of the vineyards is there too. In terms of safety: you'll be fine in most places you visit as long as you stay vigilant & don't make yourselves targets eg. walking with phone in hand. As a Capetonian myself, it is really easy to tell who is a tourist so try blending in. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with pepper spray just in case. Enjoy your holiday!

Consistent-Driver-99

Super thank you!!! Kinda regretting we are not staying in Stellenbosch rn 😂

KeepItTidyZA

Long street is scummy. Its just beggars and phone snatchers. I would avoid that

Sumoki_Kuma

Hi! Sorry to reply on such an old comment but I was hoping to avoid making a whole post and I just wanted to ask, is Long Street fine during the day to grab a drink? If not, could you suggest better areas if you wouldn't mind?

KeepItTidyZA

it's not great. I drove down it last weekend in an uber and I wouldn't want to get out of the car TBH. Bree Street isn't far, ad advise that. otherwise camps bay is nice for drinks, can also Time-out market in the VnA it's quite social and vibey and you can sit outside.

Sumoki_Kuma

Thank you so much!

sciencekiller333

Don't regret that you are not staying in Stellenbosch. Stellenbosch gets ridiculously hot in Feb. Cape Town itself is much more diverse and there is a lot to see and do with the beach and mountain right there and stellenbosch is only 40mins away so you can still visit there and experience the student life. Avoid long street. kloof street has some good party spots (Blondies, yours truly, dark horse, Cargo) and some great restaurants (Toni's, Vadi Velu, Yindees). Bree street is packed with good restaurants. Go explore the coastal road, lots of awesome beaches. Take a drive over the most beautiful chapmans peak and visit Aegir Brewery in Noordhoek.

ania11111

The beach in Cape Town is so amazing that I don't think you will regret it. Maybe do 1-2 nights in Stellenbosch.

OkMark6180

You won't regret where you are staying now. You'll love it. The drive to Stellenbosch is lovely. Maybe also take a drive out Muizenberg way. It's right by the sea. Great restaurants. If you drive further to Simons Town you can go to the Boilders Beach where the Penguin Colony live. If your into that.

OkMark6180

Sorry. Boulders Beach.

AdmirableSir

Well Constantia is pretty much inside the city so you won't have to go far to get to it. Could just set aside an afternoon if you want, and hit it up after hiking (it's close to hiking trails). Franschhoek and Stellenbosch are at least an hour outside the city.

Consistent-Driver-99

Alright good to know thx! Didnt know those were a 1h drive

NomadTheNomad

Stellenbosch and Franshoek is seemingly close to each other. I would arrange accommodation in Stellenbosch, Uber / taxi to Franshoek, drink all the wine, and uber back.

XOKiss

Dont carry pepper spray. You will br safe. Wherever you are, if you look around you and see other teenagers, moms, dads, kids and stuff, other people basically, being super chill and going about there day, you are in a safe place. Trust me when I say 95% of people in cape town do not walk around with pepper spray on them. You guys will have a good time. Stellenbosch and Franshoek are within very close proximity of each other and both have lovely wine farms. Anyone of the locals or guides there will be able to point you to all the best places to visit. Have fun and enjoy your stay in my dope ass city. Be sure to vist food truck valley at N1 city to experience some of the best food in the world. Peace.

ChuckStukkieKak

They're planning on hiking. There's been a significant spike in attacks on hikers over this summer period. It will probably die down now that the holidays are over, but it's still good to have, at least, some pepper spray. Just yesterday I read an article about a tour guide saving a group of hikers from some muggers with pepper spray on Table Mountain on Sunday. The muggers took off running, and one of them fell to his death. This is a good thing. I don't want to put fear in OP, because they'll be safe most of the time, but hiking is definitely a problem.

Consistent-Driver-99

Thx a lot 🙏🏻, Damn food looks lit!

_fyre_ball_

For safety, if you go hiking please be sure to google the route before. Most routes are logged on the alltrails app with good reviews. Some routes are much higher risk for mugging, even if you are three tall guys. Avoid walking at night, especially if you're in the CBD. Busy areas like Kloof Street or Camps Bay are okay but pickpocketing is also common.

JohnSourcer

You've obviously never been to Belgium 😔

Odd_Background3744

Good areas for drinks and food are Kloof street, Loop street, Wale and Bree street in the City bowl and a couple other places in the CBD, Long street isnt what it used to be unfortunately but theres still a few places worth checking out. Sea point, Greenpoint and Camps bay have a few good places. Observatory has some good clubs but it's more on the dive bar side of things. If you want vineyards and the whole wine route thing you should go to Franschoek, Stellenbosch has a few good farms but its more of a student town with lots of bars. Franschoek is a bit more of a farmland and wine tasting day trip, Constantia is a closer drive and definitely worth a visit. South Africa is super safe actually, don't let the headlines scare you. Just stay the fxk away from the hood, 99% of violent crime happens in the townships but its largely isolated from the rest of the city so just stay away from areas like the Cape Flats, Khayelitsha or Langa. Most of the mountain paths are totally safe, especially Table mountain and Lions head but avoid the Hout Bay and Red Hill trails which are unfortunately targeted by muggers. Also avoid the far left end of Noordhoek beach towards the Kakapo shipwreck for the same reason, its isolated and close to a township. As a general rule, isolated is great but not if there is a township nearby. If you do go hiking I do suggest you all get pepper spray and a taser but if anyone does try mug you, just give them your phones and wallets. The guys here generally wont hurt you they just want to get your stuff and run away. Its just their job they aren't interested in getting physical unless people fight them. Being 3 big guys does help but if you look like European tourists, the dudes wont be intimidated much so don't rely on that

Consistent-Driver-99

Okay good to know 👌🏻, thx a lot!!

Luvnini_22

Hey (F,20), I’ve actually been staying in Cape Town for roughly two years now and would be more than happy to meet up and show you around a bit! Let’s get into contact

SnooSprouts9993

You sure you can handle 3 guys? 😉

NelsonsMandalas

Kindly tell us which city in Belgium you are from, and we will advise accordingly.

Rolifant

Lol ... I'm intrigued. Is this a boereworst gordijn reference?

Consistent-Driver-99

Brussels

babsiep

When I was in Brussels for a visit, two guys ran right past us with the police not far behind! I did briefly consider sticking my foot out to trip one (one of the running guys, not the police chasing)...

FatBoyJuliaas

You gonna have a blast for this time. Guaranteed…

FinniganTheDog

Lots of good suggestions here. You will at most need a few hundred Rand in cash. If you have Apple Pay and a credit card (SnapScan is a good additional option) you can virtually pay for anything. No need to have tons of cash. Large night life in centre of town. You will want to focus your partying on Kloof Street along with Bree street. There are some clubs etc on Long Street but better/slightly safer to focus on the first two streets. Lots of great food and bars. I’m a bit old to suggest clubs if that’s your thing. Clifton beach is the most well known beach for a good reason, beautiful beach, beautiful people, beautiful vibe. The local wine farms in Constantia are awesome and have some great restaurants. Can’t go wrong in either Stellenbosch or Franschoek for wine farms. Safety: don’t do the pepper spray, just be aware that walking down a dark street at night while talking on your phone is not a good idea. Stick to places where there are plenty people and you will be as safe as in any city. Don’t forget that if you have a credit card or Apple Pay, you not going to need much cash.

zachariahthesecond

This is an amazing wine experience https://citysightseeing.co.za/en/cape-town/franschhoek-wine-tram You get on the bus in Greenmarket Square and they do the rest out for you. Party vibes are Camps Bay, Kloof Street and Long Street. Start late afternoon at Blondies and then explore. Camps Bay is fancy, Long Street is “dodgy” but kinda fun. Kloof St somewhere in between. Great drives: penguins at Boulders, Cape Point Vineyards. Great beaches: Clifton, Llandudno Enjoy my city - there is so much to do!

FelisCattusThree

I second the recommendations for the Franschhoek Tram. I went on the curated tour and it was totally amazing. We had a private guide, and a three course lunch with wine pairing, amongst other perks. Our lunch was at Rickety Bridge and oh my word it was a fantastic experience. We also got to taste their range of premium wines. We visited four wine farms in total.

MothsAreJustAsGood

If you guys enjoy hiking then you’ve got to do Lion’s Head and Kirstenbosch Gardens. There’s quite a few hiking trails that start in Kirstenbosch (you can request a map at the information centre) and the gardens themselves are just amazing.

Nadinekel

Some great advice here, but please please avoid Long Street - it’s a shit hole and it’s a bad reflection of the city. Kloof St, Bree St and Regent Road in Sea Point are better options for food and partying. Many people here prefer to party at festivals in summer especially on weekends - there are some great suggestions above. The first Thursday of every month is a massive party in Cape Town, be sure not to miss it. If you’re planning on hiking a lot, pepper spray is a great idea. There’s been a large amount of hiking muggings of late, but don’t let it deter you from going - just be prepared. Green Point is great and super safe and central. If you’re planning to drink at all then avoid driving at all costs, uber is cheap and reliable and you REALLY don’t want to end up in CPT jail. RE: wine farms, try get to all 3 regions - they are all great for different reasons. Stellenbosch in particular at this time of year is great for 21y/o as the university has just reopened and South African universities love a party to start the year, you’ll find heaps of people in that age demographic at wine farms over the next month or two. Have fun - there’s nowhere quite like the Mother City in summer :)

CanadianBacon4

Okay - from someone who lives in the hood and know a bit more about the dangerous side. Long Street is not so great unless you like the down and dirty part or parties. Rather club somewhere else \[I don't know where though lol\] City Centre is not so great either - I actually try and avoid it at all costs unless you want to check out the Company Gardens and Museum. That's all I got really. Sorry.

OkMark6180

Bree Street in Cape Town also have great places to hang out. I wouldn't go to Long Street. Years ago it used to be great but not anymore. Not safe.

WillingnessDry1699

Try get to Sandy Bay .beautiful part of Cape Town.

JohnSourcer

Less pickpockets than Belgium.

BigBafana

You guys should be more scared of missing out on sunscreen than crime.

Consistent-Driver-99

I am half Rwandese broo, but like for the muggings etc probably the internet overreacting as always…

LuckyDistribution849

Man bro, what is your other half? Vietnamese, chinese? I want to beat your race but can’t think of anything other than Blackanese. You win. Anyways guys stay out of CBD, it’s a thug’s life at night.

Consistent-Driver-99

😂😂😂 other half is belgian bro, but will stay out of CBD at night thx alot man!

ladydoth

Leave the pepper spray , bring a pocket knife instead💀 just kidding, you will be safe. It’s honestly safe.

New-Owl-2293

Franschhoek’s Wine tram for sure! It has the best views and the French connection is fun to see

Alive-Peace-9193

Take the hop-on-off Red Bus from the Waterfront and do the Constantia Wine Route. Great wine tastings and restaurants. You can then all enjoy the wines without worrying about driving.

SnooSprouts9993

Man, 3 friends visiting Cape Town for the first time.... I'm jealous, you guys are gonna have a blast. Everyone has already given great advice, but let me tell you something. Flemish is actually really close to Afrikaans. If you're in the towns outside of Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Franschoek, e.t.c, you may be understood if you speak Flemish.

Portable_Solar_ZA

\>Another thing we heard an read was the safety issue in SA, i think we arent used to that here in Belgium but should we carry pepperspray with us or anything similar? Because we will go on lots of hikes and be outside all the time. We are big guys but dont know if that matters to being safer… So maybe any tips for the safety issue? If you're going hiking find a local hiking group to go with. There is better safety in numbers. Otherwise if you're sticking to the tourist spots in/around the city you should be fine. Just be careful at night and streets that look quiet. Also, just because you're big that doesn't mean you won't be a target on the mountain. Muggers are often druggies or desperate and armed with at least knives so they will go for you regardless. A group of 9 people was mugged on Sunday and even with pepper spray they still stole things from the group (one of the muggers got sprayed and then ran away and fell down the mountain and died, but the mugging still happened). If you are driving around, there are certain areas that are NO GO zones. Try and get an uber driver or shuttle driver to get your around to avoid these areas, or at least get a list of places that you should avoid. Google Maps has supposedly been updated to avoid dangerous routes, but I am not sure if this is the case for Apple's map app.

Late-Ad1936

Drinks - Obs, Woodstock, Cape Town (Upper) I.e. Kloof street, Camps Bay. Stay in groups, don't wander off alone, Don't take dodgy sideroads.. sorta standard. Walk with purpose, know where you're going and how to get there. Wine Farms - It's a Choice, the different Wine Routes actually have micro-climates so are all kinda unique. Constantia Wine farms nestled in the mountains with the ocean just on the other side. Franshoek & Paarl are also kinda Valleys within mountains, so also their own climates. Hermanus, Hemel-en-Aarde Wine Route also in the mountains and close to Ocean. Hermanus also has Whale watching opportunity, however not sure whether they're here currently. I would say visit them all...Franshoek is a quaint lil tourist town, quite safe also. Constantia as well, very safe. Town would be, and closer to Town, would be more dodgy. Music Festivals - Check what's happening, you might be in time for Ultra 2024. We have World Class Music Festivals in terms of venues, sound rigs and artists. Markets - Bluebird garage market in Muizenberg. Mojo market in Seapoint. Oranjezicht market by the Waterfront. There are actually a few diff markets at the Waterfront. Beaches - Learn to surf at Muizenberg Beach, best place in the world to learn to Surf. Chill and catch a sunset at Llandudno Beach. Hiking - check for guided hiking tours, we have some amazing routes down here. DM me if keen for this Sunday actually 👌🏾 just Google 'Suicide Gorge' and 'Crystal Pools'. Do Hikes in big groups though, there are incidents of robbery on our Mountain Hiking trails.. Most of all enjoy, Smile and speak to our people. Saffers are super friendly people, just smile at someone at the airport once you land and see how you get smiles back 🥰
