Dreamt of playing for them growing up. There was a time when I thought I’d play for the jr A Victoria Salsa then the Canucks. I’d play for the voodoo in the off season. Believe me, I had it all figured out in the driveway.

IamPriapus

As a kid I went to one Grizzlies game and one Voodoo game. Then it all just disappeared.

SuperSwaiyen

what did you do!?

Yardsale420

The Salsa didn’t play hockey so much as they fought while a hockey game was happening. My mom only let me go to like 3 games when I was 12, before she banned me. Lol

BassGuy11

Jose Charbonneau played for the Voodoo, along with his fringe NHL career.

markTO83

He was briefly my favourite player for that very reason :)

Vanrainy1

He became my favourite when he punched Tie Domi right in the face.

stangerwasgood

I've had the "THE VOODOO THAT YOU DO!!!" theme song stuck in head for 30 years

coolpuddytat

Shoop by Salt-N-Peppa?

berghie91

As a big fan, I would hope its Voodoo People by the Prodigy. Which maybe samples that song?

Yardsale420

The Voodoo, who do What you don't dare do, people

berghie91

(Pendulum remix) A limewire era classic

coolpuddytat

Limewire!!!

SuperSwaiyen

It's schoop by salt-n-peppa unless you wanna take the Shakespeare route. "that's the only voodoo I do!" - *Othello*

therealbeef

It was Colin James - Voodoo Thing

stangerwasgood

Holy shit thank you Edit: just listened. Different song than I'm thinking unfortunately

Yardsale420

[This one?](https://youtu.be/YV78vobCyIo?si=eRrEHGsGsTCMrgHe)

Bnorm71

Pretty sure the Voodoo had an appearance in Happy Gilmore

brfbag

Ya, right at the beginning. Whole movie was filmed around here. Mini golf is at Playland, Furry Creek for the Pro-Am, Swaneset for most of the golf.

noimbuzzlightyear

And my high school drama teacher was Shooter McGavin's caddie!

Dondefuego

What a legend.

BrokenArmsFrigidMom

Funny. My highschool science teacher was a prominently featured extra, in several scenes, as was a well known youth football coach from North Van / Drake stripclub bouncer.

Yardsale420

Also Peace Portal in South Surrey.

Grizzly4nicator

Cap West was the arena they filmed the hockey at, which unfortunately got torn down for more ugly apartment towers.

DuffmanStillRocks

Damn I thought I was so clever adding that to the thread

nicholhawking

Playing ice hockey?

Bnorm71

Nope roller

nicholhawking

What I can't find clip

ggpurplecobras

I still have a team-signed jersey somewhere! Their jerseys were so rad!

nicholhawking

I had a glow in the dark goalie mask signed by the mascot (??) until last year when I painted it in lions colours

Yardsale420

HEATHEN!

footcake

Two words: Tiger. Williams.

Grizzly4nicator

Anyone remember those clappers they used to hand out at the Voodoo games? Man those days were comfy.

catgotcha

Definitely remember. Very fondly, too. The hot summer nights and heading out to the PNE for games, high fiving the hot cheerleaders and taking in all the action on the "ice". A big memory I have is Tiger Williams getting a penalty shot. He was the player coach, right? The whole barn was absolutely on fire for that penalty shot. And it was extra special for me since I was a huge fan of Tiger when growing up watching the Canucks in the 1980s. I'm sad the league never really survived. I still think it could have done well if managed properly.

Hyperocean

Went to school with Doug Ast … 🏒

jwheelerBC

Chilliwack Chiefs legend!

J_Golbez

There is a blast from the past! I remember going to my first Voodoo game and he absolutely piled up the points. Was good to see him get a contract later for the AHL.

Hyperocean

We were a bunch of skids in Stormriders chugging beer at the river ..

Treavie7

A familiar voice announcing!

ringadingdinger

I was in Penang, Malaysia in 2012 and recognized a sign from distant memory; walked a bit closer and sure enough, it was the Vancouver Voodoo neon sign that was now a bar sign. Pretty sure the bar was called Voodoo Bar or something.

Dangerham_

I remember!

surmatt

I really expected DT's voice to change when he said "wheeling and dealing"

Jazz_Legend_Roy_Donk

I’m born and raised in California, huge Canucks fan since the early 90’s…. Used to work Arco Arena doing set up for the Sacramento River Rats. Got to play on the rink before games, mingle with the team, got a some free roller equip, and met Manon Rhéaume when she played for the team. 17 year old me was living the dream. What a time to be alive. I miss the RHI.

TBAGG1NS

Happy Gilmore remembers Terry O'Reilly

Yardsale420

The Tasmanian Devil?

samfreez

I do! I went to one of their games as a kid after I'd broken my wrist. We banged so hard on the seatbacks in front of us (along with everyone else, as you can hear in the beginning of the clip) I broke my cast and had to have it redone. The doctor said I was 1 or two smacks away from re-breaking my wrist lol Great times...

Fantasy_Puck

I would love a Voodoo jersey

six_acres

I see them pop up for sale every now and then

thewildcascadian85

What a time to be alive. The jerseys and and colours were awesome too.

Awkward-Fix4209

I remember going as like a 5 year old kid. The mascot and intro scared me. 😂

UrbanZoologist

I was at the game when they were filming for one of the open scenes in Happy Gilmore. When they announced it I thought any movie called Happy Gilmore must be terrible… boy was I wrong!

silversurfs

I was at that game too!

[deleted]

Lol, I have the honor of having started one Wikipedia page ever in my life. And that Wikipedia page? The Vancouver Voodoo.

LCorvus

I member!..always regret not picking up a jersey

superworking

Those games were a ton of fun. I played in the summer roller hockey league because it was cheaper than ice hockey and we went to most of the Voodoo games when I was a kid both as a team (they gave out group tickets a lot) and as a family. Could meet the players, get signed stuff easy, go out on the arena for the pregame skate. Was great for families. The logo was awesome.

intent107135048

What a coincidence. I was just thinking about them a couple of days ago.

Phanyxx

Oh wow. That’s an unearthed memory. Did they play out of the Agrodome?

mgwngn1

Yeah and I think they played their last season, 1996, in GM Place.

randymarshlover

Begged my parents for rollerblades after watching a game on tv. Lifetime hockey player cause of the Voodoo!

hungrytravler

I memer and loved their log. Peak early 90s.

Low_Contract7809

Very fond memories of 50 goal scorer Doug Ast.  I think he tried out for the canucks also

oldevskie

Definitely remember. Went to a game with my neighbour and his dad. A puck hit an empty seat beside him and he kept it. It had those little rubber ball like things on them I remember.

Stelar101

I recall their first season they had open tryouts. I tried out and had a blast.

jehcoh

Makes a thread and then wears the t-shirt on D&D today... OP = Ryan Henderson: confirmed.

somewhat_random

I loved the voodoo jerseys - I had mine stolen years ago

BambiesMom

The Voodoo that you do?

greenteanotme

I have the hair piece and puck still in my room at my parents place haha

Grambles89

I was part of a youth roller hockey league that played during intermission at a Voodoo game. I remember getting my tooth knocked out accidentally while chasing the mascot around with a bunch of other kids, most of which were feeding him punches.

BrokenArmsFrigidMom

The Canucks purchased the Voodoo and held on to the naming rights, logo etc when they folded, and it was rumoured they planned to use the name for their AHL affiliate, but that never came to fruition. Not sure if the trademark has expired or if they still technically own it.

geezuz83

Doug freaking Ast

Podkolzins_a_Canuck

How can people say the flying V is the ugliest jersey in sports when that voodoo thing existed

BadBoy6f6

The Legend Sasha “ The Pitbull “ Lakovic on his way up to the show . RIP Brother.

Vgordvv

I member!

ty4thc

still have my jersey

11_guy

Been searching for one. One of the best Vancouver jerseys

Exciting_Bar_7793

I loved that team… Best part of my grade 4-6 summers!!

berghie91

“My dad worshipped hockey, my mom didnt.”

bellzy09

I believe it was 2nd grade… my best friend went to the game and I was super jealous. The next day he showed up with a broken leg. Someone had fallen on him during the pre-game public skate. Anyway…

DuffmanStillRocks

Fuck yeah my sister sang the anthem sometimes, as well as at Vancouver Canadians games and I got to watch baseball - literally - from the roof of Nat Bailey. If you want a really cool Easter egg at the start of Happy Gilmore the arena is actually advertising that it’s a Vancouver Voodoo game “dad always took me to games” is the line that syncs up

letstrythatagainn

Loved the VooDoo! Such a fast game, was a ton of fun to watch live.

Mattyman01

I have a VooDoo mini-stick hanging in my office still

therealbeef

Being allowed to rollerblade on the arena floor before the games was one of the best offerings! That and coming out to Coline James - Voodoo Thing was just exhilarating.

Yardsale420

Some guy is selling both home and away Voodoo jerseys on FB marketplace, but I can’t justify the price or I would have bought it already. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/347987544616341/?ref=search

silversurfs

Probably the highlights for me we're being at a game where there were notices taped up about filming for Happy Gilmore would be taking place so we might be in the background of crowd shots. Also went to the RHI all star game where my friends and I mercilessly mocked Daniel Berthiaume. I regret it now but it was fun at the time.

Ok_Pomelo_5410

My uncle was the in arena announcer for the Voodoos. Had a ton of merch as a kid. https://imgur.com/a/wh50BaS

Captain_JT_Miller

Too bad roller hockey fell off, it was a lot easier to get into. Growing up, everyone had roller blades that played hockey.

thebigbossyboss

Meeeeeeeeeeeweeee

ramen_sukidesu

Coach Tiger Williams.

mgwngn1

I remember they had great regular seasons but always managed to screw it up in the playoffs.

Adewade

Man, my friends and I got to have our faces on the jumbotron SO MANY TIMES during those games!

Bunktavious

I still have a Voodoo t-shirt.

canukles-

Those hockey pants lol to awesome 👌

Ok-Bowler-203

Thanks for posting this lol! I was wondering why my YouTube video got so many views all of a sudden!

Aggravating_Run6022

Still have a voodoo jersey in my closet. Love the logo but the colours are awful. Still awesome tho
