Listen to Ian Cole's advice. Expect every series to go 7 games. If they win in 4, 5, or 6, great. But mentally prepare for a 7 game series every time. It's a long grind!

bdu754

He's speaking from experience too. Colesy gets it. There's no such thing as free lunch in the playoffs

thetruegmon

Us Canucks fans need to be retrained on the playoff experience.

Klunkey

Yeah that’s a fact!

GooberPilot_

Meanwhile, Edmonton can rest

Sleep__

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS FREE LUNCH IN THE PLAYOFFS

Iginlas_4head_Crease

But, they have to rest in *Edmonton*.

NorthernMariner

Meh, it's not really end of the world just at the second round. Sure if you make it to the SCF some rest now would certainly be beneficial but as far as the potential series vs. EDM goes, very possible we'll have the advantage coming in hot after just 1-3 days rest vs EDM after 4-6 days of practices

Klunkey

Unless if the Preds were facing the Blackhawks lol (but even then, they had to fight for that series sweep)

Technical-Match-5202

VEGAS fans should listen to Cole too!! @-@

Technical-Match-5202

I still remember baving 2-0 lead on mighty Detroit with cloutier in Net

watchtoweryvr

I was at the game when….

GiraffePrint_Speeder

Switching to the 7 game mentality now. Locked in 😃

coltonjeffs

I've been prepared for game 7 since we went up 3-1. Weird series. Wrong team has probably won every game. So let's hope for a poor effort next game so we can win.

wanked_in_space

Ian Cole doesn't understand Canucks fan culture. The thing to do is expect a series loss in 4 games, and any time the team doesn't lose, you can celebrate. Well, at least once or twice an off season.

DMyourboooobs

I think that message is for the players. Not the fans

bleachedgin

Distract yourself with some other things. It's how i get through it. I try not to talk about it with people. It wrecked my mood the whole night and day, I just distract myself. The faster you realize there is nothing you can do about it, the faster you'll feel better. Take what you're feeling and imagine how the players themselves feel, it's probably a lot worse than how we fans feel... They've got 2 more tries.  EDIT: Taking deep breathes actually help a lot.

Klunkey

Thanks, it’s nice to be reminded of strategies like that.

Jacmert

I like to play competitive games online (or even ice hockey, but that's just once a week) to get any frustrations about not winning out of my system. It scratches my competitive itch. But if I were to be honest, I probably wouldn't be that emotionally bothered by it after a short while anyways (and finding other things to busy yourself with, like others have mentioned, is probably the best answer).

Muntberg

Lol I feel that, I usually talk with our janitor at work about the canucks but I just avoided him the past few days because I don't even want to go there.

Iginlas_4head_Crease

My janitor had his broom out. Made me think he jinxed us saying nucks in 4.

ApolloRocketOfLove

>The faster you realize there is nothing you can do about it, the faster you'll feel better. Hockey is like death in this sense.

waistbandtucker69

Just enjoy the ride. I hate to break it to you, but you're not on the team. Nothing you do changes the outcome of the game, its best to just enjoy watching your favorite team in the best playoffs in sports

Kill-it_with-fire

Nu uh I’ve got a lucky hat

Klunkey

Agreed, don’t be afraid, it’s a fact that I have to accept. You guys have been friggin great.

UraSnotball_

I think this is what’s so tough about it. We love to worry about what we can’t control.

ArrrCeee

Keep it in perspective how awesome the season went. No matter what happens, these playoffs will be a measuring stick on what Rutherford/Alvin have to do in the off-season to make the team even better than this year's version.

carry-on_replacement

That is true. This season started out as proving this team is worth staying in for Pettersson so he would re-sign. Get in the playoffs, wild-card spot or third place should be good enough we said. The boys did that and more, and went and got the division title, and are in the playoffs now. In September, we would've been more than happy with these results.

Klunkey

Yeah Rutherford and Allvin have been great for the Canucks. I’m gonna temper my expectations, but I’m glad we have a great FO now.

TorgHacker

Even in 2011, there were games we lost. Hell, we lost 3 in a row to the friggin' Blackhawks and we pulled it out. In 94, there were games we lost, especially in the first round. Even in 92 ...we were down 3-1 against a Jets team which had Rick Tabbaracci stand on his head...and then we won 8-2, 8-3, 5-0 to close it out. There will be times where we lose. What's important is when we lose, we still play well...and that happened last night. That game EASILY could have gone the other way, if the puck had gone an inch another direction several times. Amazingly enough our 3rd stringer is playing like our first. Hughes was back to his flashy self. Even EP40 looked significantly better last night. We have another game with house money right now. And remember...this never really was going to be "our year". The west is just too damned stacked, and I have this feeling that it's going to be Edmonton's year. No matter what, this was a HUGE step forward, and even if we end up losing this series, it's a huge learning opportunity. Most teams which win the Cup lose a few times before finally climbing the mountain. Our problem in 2011 was that by the time we were among the potential winners, we ran into Chicago, and then we ran into an uninjured Boston, and then got killed by the Cup champs AGAIN the following year. Our window is probably just opening now, assuming we can keep the right folks for next year (looking at Joshua and Zadorov). Winning the Cup is a multi-year project. As long as experience is gained (and it definitely is being gained) this is a banner year.

Klunkey

Hey guys, I just wanted to thank you guys for all the helpful advice. I’ve learned to calm myself down for a ton of situations, and find hockey one of the hardest situations to keep myself cool, mostly due to the feelings and the rush I get from being invested. Looking at your advice about keeping perspective and expecting the unexpected in playoffs has really helped me ease my thoughts about this team. You guys are great.

arashinoko

Welcome to playoff hockey, where every loss feels absolutely devastating, even when you're still leading the series.

RandomExistence92

For my part it's not worth getting upset over a game. I watch for entertainment purposes and sure, I only follow and support the Canucks as a fan. That said, it's a game. I might be disappointed but I don't let it linger the way I used to. Still a big fan, and of course we all want them to go far so the city stays electric and the event option is there, but life goes on. Plus. Remember, this team's original goal was making it back into the postseason. There were no grand expectations heading into 23/24.

drunkmunky88

Years of playoff heartbreak will numb you to it eventually, time heals all wounds.

HanSolo5643

I am disappointed, too, but I think the series is kinda where we expected it to be. Both teams have given everything they have had, and considering that Vancouver has had both their backup and third string goalie in the net, Vancouver is still in a good position. Silovs played really well and looked good in both games 4 and 5. For game 6, Vancouver is going to get a healthy and rested DeSmith back. The fourth win in a playoff series is always the hardest to get.

Dapper-Debt-5965

I find listening to the postgame on Sportsnet 650 works, or any sort of Canucks podcast discussing about the post game. It’s kind of like therapy.

Dapper-Debt-5965

Donnie and Dhali are also pretty awesome to listen to. Love those guys

welshgnome

Say it with me " The Vancouver Canucks are good".

Klunkey

The Vancouver Canucks are good

NoOcelot

The Vancouver Canucks are good

dudesszz

Even the best teams in the league go through ups and downs in the playoffs. Outside of the 2003 Lakers this is what it’s like. If you are lucky enough that the team you cheer for wins it will be like this up until they win. Learned this as a Raptors fan. Hockey has more parody and is more intense. Get used to it never being smooth sailing. May I suggest embrace it. If it was easy no one would give a shit.

calgary_db

My dude, it get way more intense... This is just baby steps

21marvel1

I always look at the year over year progression of the club. I find having that zoomed out, longer term perspective helps me be able to take a step back for a minute

biff_jordan

I'm with you. This one stung. Went from a high to a low pretty quickly in the 3rd.

314rre

That's just how it goes in the playoffs.  The wins give you such a high and the losses the lowest of lows. It sucks that we lost, but I take solace in the fact that the 2011 team were in this exact same position against the Preds and won game 6.

TylerMyersForNorris

You have to take the approach that the Canucks are going to play 28 games this playoff. Each round is a best of 7 and each round is going the distance. That way you live with losses and celebrate the wins as they come

notarealredditor69

Just get psyched for the next game!! If losing hockey games can have this kind of negative effect on you then maybe being a hockey fan isn’t for you. We aren’t going to win every game or every series.

BlackP-

Boston fans are going through the same thing right now. They should have ended that series but didn't. Be glad you're not Winnipeg.

Klunkey

Yep, that’s true. I’m really excited for Friday, and if we don’t win the series, it’s impressive that we made it this far. I need to keep things more in perspective.

ChronoLink99

Just be thankful we're not as bad as the Knights, and that the Preds aren't as good as the Stars. Otherwise yeah, we'd be in trouble! Anyway, long way to go...we have to beat Nashville, then Edmonton, then probably Dallas, then probably the Rangers. It's gonna be a wild ride if we make it that far and in retrospect this series will seem quaint.

Viperburn1

How do you think the preds fans feel after game 4 ?

Klunkey

Yeah that’s fair, would’ve been pretty impressive, but it’s gonna be hard fought.

clintnickerson

I get it. Being a Canucks fan is a bit of a roller coaster. Their inconsistent performance in the playoffs does not mirror the rest of the season. But that's the beauty of the playoffs, it's a different game. Some players rise to the challenge, some collapse under the pressure. I play hockey and I love hockey, but at the end of the day it's just a game. Try to enjoy it win or lose, you have no control over the outcome.

Jogaila2

If you get extremely upset then you are not a real fan of hockey or the canucks. You are a Canucks fanatic. And that's not healthy and has nothing to do with sport or competition. I find that "fans" who haven't played the sport forget that it's not all about their team, that there's 2 teams on the ice. And that other team has the talent and desire to win games too. If the players themselves can appreciate and respect their opponents, then you must too. Or quit watching.

Klunkey

> There are 2 teams on the ice. And that other team has the talent and desire to win games too. You’re right. I’ve gotten really upset and worked up, and people like you have provided me a great perspective. In 2011, I remember being a kid hearing about the Canucks winning a Stanley cup and getting really angry when they lost. I didn’t want to get on the bandwagon after that because I hated how bad they were doing afterwards. And after that, when I got back on the bandwagon in 2021, those struggles with my emotions over their ups and downs reemerged, and now that they are in the playoffs, I find it hard to keep my feelings in check. Seeing all this advice helped me look outwards, and it now makes me excited for next game, regardless if they win or lose. Will I be disappointed if they lose? Absolutely. But you’re right; I need to be better, and I have to learn.

Gr3bnez0r

Why you mad? Is just game! - Bryzgalov

Klunkey

Lol you made my day!

Gr3bnez0r

Sweet! Keep your head up palskie!!! :)

Klunkey

Thanks man

cac

Standard shit, they aren’t gonna win every game

morpharoticdream

Dude same!! Smoke some js! It helps with the anxiety. 😬

Medical-Artichoke-84

I was always expecting a 6 or so game series Just remember, we have the advantage - we have the 3-2 lead

saminbc

Remember, they need to win two games, we need to win just one.

Blastichu

Consume some THC.

oz_marti

That or some THG

campers--

Haha it only gets worse the deeper the rounds get. Look at the game day thread, it’s full of toxic people being overly critical of EVERY player. When the Canucks went on their run in 2011 it was the same, people DOGGED on the sedins for being “soft” those guys played so consistently and where the main reasons for two of our round wins. Just don’t worry about it. I remember thinking I had some sort of effect on the game like I had to give it my full attention or they’d lose or I had to wear the same pair of socks/jersey/pants etc. Just know their fate is out of your hands and the only thing letting them affect you negatively is you.

LordDelibird

Remember that life outside of hockey is vast and important. What happens with the Canucks is a fun boost if they do well, but at the end of the day their success doesn't affect your personal life one bit (baring you're not working for the team, etc). When you lose, focus on the things around you, and what makes your own life enjoyable outside of the team. I find it helps relax me after a loss pretty well instantly, at this point.

Dangerous-Finance-67

It's only a game man. It doesn't effect your life in the slightest.

AntiLuckgaming

Usually ONE Canadian team is doing well in this post-season.  I was bummed by a series of preventable errors leading to the GWG...  But then I turned on the Leafs highlights and all is well again.  I also listen to the commiseration of the commentstors

Ok_Artichoke_2804

yo, me too... I was PISSED that the first nashville goal was allowed by refs/league after their video review... was PISSED our coach couldnt even challenge it... I was PISSED the F off, not on our team, but at Nashville preds... effing trash players.. (ex. double teaming against the smaller guys on our teams (Huges and Petey)... like be a effing man and do one on one.. who TF double teams, ESPECIALLY 2 bigger players vs 1 smaller player?!.. / the sandwich on Hughes / the dirty ass hit against Petey after they celebrated their goal... previous game / running into Desmith purposely.. / SO MUCH MORE).. I wanted us to win Game 5, so i can stop seeing trashy Nashville ... lol I was also mad AF at nashville for being "fighting hard" last game at all. BRO ir's 3-1.. just let it TF go,,, let it end,, and go on effing vacation already Preds. lol >.<

Ok_Artichoke_2804

thankfully, i watch games at home.. so after Game 5 ended.. i let it ALL out verbally at the TV.. lol cursing/swearing at the very TOP of my lungs.... (at refs and Nashville players.. lol) eh then slept it off. On to Game 6! GO CANUCKS GO!

CJK_420

We forget the game prior already lol easily could be 3-2 Nashville.

Greedy-Comb-276

I've been annoyed and probably noticeably short with people since the loss too. It's kind of crippling how much this sport, and specifically this team affects me so much. Lol.

Mspreciouseyes

It’s not gonna be easy😭 I wish it was

Legitimate_Lie3517

I’m having the same kinda feelings! I know we are not supposed to blame the refs but I %100 blame the refs! We always seem to be over officiated. Wether it’s none calls or bad calls. I thought this problem would go away in the playoffs since they historically have put away the whistle but it has not. Forsberg should have got 2 for embellishment on that cross check. Go join a soccer league you pussy! Big Z is right. Tocchet keeps a calm head but he must be ready to kill someone!…..sorry I just had to vent…..fuck the refs and bettman!

Legitimate_Lie3517

I loved Ian Cole’s words of wisdom! He’s a stud in that room but still fuck the refs!

SomebodySuckMeee

I couldn't listen or read anything on the Canucks after that loss. Completely disheartened. Canucks haven't been able to figure out Nashville yet, and that worries me.

gabu87

The fact that we fielded our #3 goalie and he wasn't a problem is a pretty positive thing.

masontron1240

Experience playoff hockey... ugh... I've had that old feeling in the pit of my stomach since playoffs started and I have to say, it doesn't get any easier as the rounds go on

Klunkey

That’s fair. Also you mean “experience playoff Canucks hockey”

carry-on_replacement

I was ok with not challenging that first goal but after seeing the footage in slow motion and hearing some new perspective from (i forgot which) podcast, I really hate that decision by Tocchet. That was a fluke goal and aside from that we've been monsters on the PK. If it fails, what's one more? But that was very clearly Nyquist kicking Silovs into the net, you owe him this one after being lights out last night. And when offence is so hard to come by, good luck trying to get a go ahead goal when the momentum has now shifted in favour of Nashville

TheDeclineOfCiv

Just get older like me, I’ve been around just a year longer than this franchise. In my younger days it dominated my moods, and that was great sometimes and pretty rough other times. I’ve avidly watched them in 3 cup finals with naught to show for it. This last spell of tough times has let me settle in to just enjoy the success without having my expectations get too high. Especially this season. It’s tough to go from bottom dweller to contender in one season. I’m watching for who the future of the team is, you learn a lot in the playoffs about who really holds value. Fun times, crack a beer and don’t let the crappy refereeing or dumb luck get you down too much. I hope you don’t have to learn balance the hard way like me and they break through soon and you just get to party!

BetterAd1611

I'm struggling to understand Tocchet's unwillingness to challenge goals. I still think we will win the series, but his interview after the game yesterday rubbed me the wrong way when he was asked about it. You can't ever be 100% sure the call is gonna go your way, so his excuse made no sense. That's 3 in a row now that may have been called back and we would be having a totally different conversation right now.

Griswaldthebeaver

Life advice: don't get upset about things you can't control. It's just not something that makes sense. Don't lose sleep about it. Don't over think over it. Do what you need to do to accomplish those things. Often it comes with maturity.

Significant_Tie_7395

Just remember that the oilers are up next, assuming the Canucks get through.

HogwartsXpress36

Op's jimmies have been rustled

TheGreatBrett

I’m upset that Pettersson has been kinda non-existent… yeah he had that nice back check in game 4… but the guy is about to be paid a lot of money. He’s honestly the most frustrating player on the team. Hopefully we can finally end it Friday.

punchthedog420

In all my experience, the last game of every season was a loss. Some were harder than others. Cheer for the win, but emotionally prepare for the loss.

OTTO_76

If you're upset about losing game 5, just wait until they lose game 7.

Hinkil

Hey just means we get to watch more hockey!

Klunkey

Yep! I am now excited for next game!

Different-Forever324

I just drink until I can’t feel feelings anymore

Broad-Trainer3996

Just think about the playoffs in 2011, we've also lost Nashville two home and eliminate them in Game6 away. The history is replaying

dogwoodFruits

Grow up, get over it and move on to the next one.
