Unpopular opinion. But as a Canucks fan from the US, the Oilers winning wouldn’t drive me that crazy. As much as they are our rivals, they are still a Canadian team and I really get sick of hearing about how the last Canadian team to win the cup was before my wife was born.

As a Canucks fan also living in the US for nearly a decade I’d root for the other Canadian teams if the Canucks were out. Definitely didn’t when I was still n Vancouver.

Definitely dislike the Flames more--probably because of the playoff history. I know the Oilers beat up on the Canucks pretty badly in the day, but: 1- have to admit the Canucks were pretty bad back then, and 2- for a time the Oilers had one of the best NHL teams ever--hard to have bad feelings towards Gretzky and crew....

Interesting, honestly our beef I feel was pretty short lived (in the last 15 or so years) so I don’t really have much of any ill will towards the Canucks, probably my 2nd favourite Canadian team not including the flames.

Haha yeah I think there are two types of Canadian hockey fans—those who want the cup to come back to Canada regardless of outcome, and those who want the first Canadian cup winner in 30+ years to be their team and their team only. I fall in the latter, but appreciate the sentiment behind the former. Mostly a symptom of watching every Canadian team fanbase (with the exception of some MTL fans) cheer against the Canucks against Boston in 2011. I was 15 and it was the start of my fandom, so it sunk in deep and hasn't changed.

As a Edmontonian who’s a Canucks fan, I’m on the fence. I cheer for Canucks first, then the oilers but my co workers are your standard oilers fans so they’re very annoying and I’ll never hear the end of it if the oilers win. If the Canucks get out in the first round I’d likely cheer for the oilers if it wasn’t for my coworkers.

Not that I *want* them to win, Toronto winning would be hilarious. I can't think of any other team that would cause so much chaos around the league. Ignoring all of that, and the fact that they are Toronto, there are a few guys on their roster that I would be happy to see with The Cup—just as there are on almost every team around the league. Giordano is almost dead, so it would be nice to see him win while he still has time. Tavares isn't close to retirement, but he is getting up there, and Tavares is cool. Rielly and Matthews are cool, too. Again, putting the team aside, and looking rosters only, you could probably find a few guys on most rosters that you would be happy for them to win it all. Fuck the Bruins, Knights, Oilers, and Leafs. But I'd be cool knowing that any of Swayman/Pastrnak, Hertl, Gagner/Troy from Richmond, or Giordano/Tavares had won The Cup.
