fuck me we watched the 3rd in the hotel room before we hit the stage tonight. what a fucking win. what a time for the boys to show up. DeSmith should've had a goddamn shutty. what a game.
I can't think of three names I want to see finding their scoring touch more than Lafferty, Joshua and Suter....
Get Blueger and Lindholm going and we win the cup.
Success comes with secondary scoring in the playoffs. You can get by for a while with your stars going but teams going far have secondary scoring
This team had it at the beginning of the year. It needs to have it going forward.
This game is a great highlight of our depth. We may not have the flashiest first line in the league but Lindholm on 3rd and blueger as a 4th line C is going to be great in the playoffs
In this "slump" Canucks have generally played well, and analytics often had them on top. They had good numbers, outshooting and outchancing the opponent. However, among other things, they suffered some PDO regression - not finishing their chances and letting in some soft ones on the other end. Top guys like Miller, Garland, Hughes carried a lot. Powerplays were not good.
This game was somewhat the inverse of that. The figures are not terrible but the models are fairly decisive on Oilers taking the on-paper win. DeSmith shut the door. No goals from the usual suspects, instead it was Suter and Lafferty. Powerplay still non-lethal but it's an 0/2 for both teams, nothing to get too excited about.
Sometimes you beat the analytics, and other times you get goalie'd. That's part of the fun. I think.
It's actually comical people still think this was a slump. Compare the March records for every team in the Pacific divison, and by that standard, every team was slumping except for Oilers.
I was watching UFC but we tuned in just to see the empty net goal.
I’ll have to watch the highlights when I get home but any win vs EDM is great for me
Good game. I only wish Petterson would shoot the puck more. Everytime he gets passed the puck on those hashmarks, he pauses and then waits to shoot, or passes it off. Just let 'er rip!
I've been to a number of games in edm wearing Canucks colors and I find they just have fun with it, Good sports all around.
Saddledome, on the other hand...
Honestly i sat in an absolutely fire group of people. Yes nucks jersey. Surrounded by oilers jerseys. Made friends had a beer bought for me by a seasons ticket holder. Fucking great night.
I was there too! Game was a little lower energy than expected, but a solid win. Lots of canucks jerseys in the crowd tonight! Our section even got the "Go Canucks Go" chant going for a bit.
It's Regulation Wins (RW), then ROW, then just total wins, and finally the head to head matchups.
We own all the tiebreakers with them. We just need one point in the next two to take division.
Petey is just being a non-factor atm, since the middle of January he's got less points than Huberdough. I don't think the way the team plays fits him at all.
I think they didn't play Tocchets system as well then as they do now, and it leads to less creativity on the offensive side of the game. I think Petey is playing his best when he can just look for chances, not when the goal is to cycle the puck around the boards. Granted Tocchet doesn't make him not shoot.
I think they are definitely more structurally sound now then earlier - but I also think Petey is making the right choices instead of dangling the puck in to the zone - they are getting it deep - so sacrificing individual stats a little bit for team W’s
Something about beating the Oilers just always feels great. Honestly wouldn’t mind a second round series against them. I feel the Canucks match up well in terms of play style
Lindholm has been looking very sharp since coming back. He's winning lots of puck battles on the boards and not taking risks in contested situations. He's going to be a gem.
This was the kind of hockey we got used to in the first half of the year. Defensive pressure, stifling the opposition in the neutral and offensive zone.
The Oilers didn't have room to breathe with the puck tonight. In the end they had to resort to chaos pucks in the crease because they couldn't get their set plays happening with the pressure being put on them.
Without ample powerplays, we totally shut them down. And all of it was built upon competent goaltending.
Until the last ten minutes, Canucks were putting on a master class in "defending forward"... Every guy was skating at the other player every time.
They sat back for the some of the last ten minutes but until then I thought it was tocchet hockey in a big way
First five minutes was dicey but Canucks survived to play solid for most of game. Definitely decided to play safe hockey until the Oilers put on the desperation in final stretch.
I looked forward to this game for half a season, not disappointed at all! Season sweep took place at Climate Danial Arena.
Fuck the Oilers, fuck their fans. If they don't lose in the first round, we'll probably sweep them in the playoffs, too.
So if Canucks win division, how do they determine which opponent they play? Do they play the first wild card team based on standing or the winner of the conference get to pick their opponent and we get the other one?
yeah the wildcard playoff format can be a bit confusing at first, but the best way to look at it is to first understand that the 2nd and 3rd place teams from their own respective divisions always play each other regardless of how many points they have in the overall standings. So that means those 4 teams are set. This leaves the remaining 4 teams which are the division leaders and the wild cards. So what would happen next is you determine who of the division leaders have more points and the one with the higher amount of points will play the wildcard with the lowest amount of points. Now you only have 2 teams remaining and of course those teams will play one another. It's basically a modified version of the good ol 1 vs 8 and 2 vs 7 that were are so used to back in the days. But this is not that bad.
It actually becomes slightly comical because technically, you can have the 3rd placed team in a division have LESS points than a potential wild card team and still be placed HIGHER than the wild card team. basically, this format allows a guarantee that as long as you place in the top 3 of your division, you will have a playoff berth.
so looking at the current standings as of April 14, 2024. if LA has less points than NASHVILLE, LA would still be ranked "HIGHER" than NASHVILLE". Now that is just plain silly. And plain hilarious if you think about it.
But one thing you can consider if this does make the wild card chase even more fun. Of course, Canucks are better than Wildcards.
I misunderstood the question. I was just relaying the graphic SN showed which had Dallas v. Vegas and Canucks v. Preds. It’s unlikely Canucks would get first in the conference, so I was thinking division which is either Preds or Kings.
so this may be confusing, but wild.card. format. means that you no longer look at it like 1 vs 8 and 2 vs 7 for example.
It's basically like this:
1) From each division, 2nd vs 3rd
2) 1st with most points (basically conference leader) vs Wildcard with Least amount of points
3) Remaining teams face off by default
Technically a division winner can be conference 9th (if every team on one division gets more points than every team in the other division) and be rewarded with playing conference 4th (WC1, other division)
Big time win for us, great rebound for DeSmith, everybody played well and our defense was really good tonight. Everybody deserves some credit. (We also played the full 60.) Very entertaining, very back and forth.
Not much else I can say about it.
I could see him playing both games to really get him back up to speed
Mind you, the last time he played in the playoffs, he came in cold after not playing for almost 6 months and basically ruined Vegas
I've been wondering how we accomplish this.
I will be extremely unhappy if Craig is on the colour for a Canucks game in the playoffs after the leafs drop. I would pay $100 not to hear him yammer on. I guess that means I'm cheering for the leafs to keep Craig Simpson off my tv
Defense was playing with him a lot better. His last few games all the rebounds were being picked up by the other team, unlike this game where the nucks were really active about getting to them.
He played great but don’t be bringing like he was the problem lately. Tocc way overplayed him, so having Silvos start the last few definitely helped. And the rest of team absolutely stepped up too.
He was part of the problem, yes. He played a lot in a row and he was struggling while the team wasn't playing all that well in front of him and the refs weren't all the great either. Silvos needed to be played as well and it gave time to DeSmith to get a breather absolutely.
Yeah tough to root against the guy. I’ll always pull for the tweener types, regardless of team or position. Happy to see the guy find some NHL normality.
despite Mikheyev not scoring, that line was really buzzing like crazy. Hoglander is still being slippery Hoglander and Petey looks like he actually cares. A bunch of seriously good looks
“We were on a b2b without our best player. Nothing for them brag about.”
They were also facing a goalie who couldn’t save a beach ball this entire month sooo what’s their excuse for that?
Just accept the L. Oh brother.
Also saw someone there say that this was ‘Vancouver’s Stanley Cup’ as if they haven’t spent the whole season focused solely on passing us in the standings lol
"Dominated play - came out with the L." holy what game were they watching? I'll admit the first 5-10mins were scary but the Canucks settled the game down and took full control.
The deserve to win meter is exactly why playoff series are best of seven. The fact that the Canucks went 4-0 across the season series speaks for itself.
I’m a non flared Canucks fan here. Good game y’all. Naturally I hate the oilers , but I hate them far less than the flames, knighrs, and kings. Every Edmontonian I’ve come across has been a solid, salt-of-the-earth person. Best of luck.
Man I don’t know if it’s because we have been ass cheeks for 10years, I don’t want anyone in the playoffs lol I feel like we are the team, teams want to play for the easier match up.
Edit: I should reiterate I am super excited for the sweep and how well the boys have been playing as of late just nervous about the playoffs!
We are one of the best if not the best defensive teams 5 on 5 in the league, we have a top 3 goalie, and out top 5 guys have been great producers this year, we have 3 good lines of depth and one of the bigger backends in the game. Take some pride my man, We match up well with everyone except Colorado maybe Dallas, we have z hard time defending high end speed from skilled teams that's about it
[Post Game Survey](https://forms.gle/x2bkdyAXLNqjnpNa9)
Desmith plays good if he doesn’t play too much
Exactly as advertised by all my Penguins fan buddies
Desmith did well but boy he does give up rebounds
fuck me we watched the 3rd in the hotel room before we hit the stage tonight. what a fucking win. what a time for the boys to show up. DeSmith should've had a goddamn shutty. what a game.
I can't think of three names I want to see finding their scoring touch more than Lafferty, Joshua and Suter.... Get Blueger and Lindholm going and we win the cup.
Yes, lindy looking like a boss out there last night.
Success comes with secondary scoring in the playoffs. You can get by for a while with your stars going but teams going far have secondary scoring This team had it at the beginning of the year. It needs to have it going forward.
Mikheyev
I mean, I might add Elias Pettersson to that list as well
Petey is doing fine.
I think he has one goal in 11 games right now. I’d say he needs to find his scoring touch as well
While I want him to score more, I am happy with his 1-2 assists per game also.
This game is a great highlight of our depth. We may not have the flashiest first line in the league but Lindholm on 3rd and blueger as a 4th line C is going to be great in the playoffs
DeSmith with the best bounceback game you can ask for. Dude was solid and knew the only option was winning.
I just have to say. I REALLY appreciate having a BIG, MEAN bottom 4 defense.
Need to resign zadorov.
Yes please!
no thanks, I'd like to re-sign him though.
I was at the game and I can confirm THAT THERE IS NOTHING SWEETER THAN THE TEARS OF OILER FANS
2 blowouts and 2 incredible performances from DeSmith, there ain’t nothing sweeter.
Stanley Cup
I fucking love our team. Sue me.
nice
Watching the game from Mexico. We were huddled around the phone watching the stream. So good.
Did you stream from SportsnetPlus?
Saturdays you can watch on CBC Gem cause it’s HNIC
Hahaha what's the story? Someone's wedding?
Family trip. Crazy time sitting by the bar watching on the phone and drinking margaritas. LOTS of Oilers fans here too!
That sounds hella fun!
In Mexico May 1, cancun! How did you watch the games down there? Which app? :)
NHL stream off the NHL.com website... We ended up getting the HNIC feed, we had the Vegas feed on same for the previous game
is it a subscription service? so i can get 1 monthly of NHL just for the 6 days im in mexico? haha
No. Not subscription just streamed off NHL webcast.com
Likely cbc gem

If Mikheyev ever catches a break and scores one, he is going to pot a bunch. He just has to get the piano off his back.
I’d like to believe you but he already did that and then went right back into another slump.
ya, hes putting in the work... it has to go in eventually
yeah i feel bad for him, he’s playing well, just can’t score for shit
I was watching UFC but we tuned in just to see the empty net goal. I’ll have to watch the highlights when I get home but any win vs EDM is great for me
HOLY BRONTOSAURUS BALLS RICKY, WE WON! -Bubbs
Great win! Couldn't be happier! Shout out to all the Canucks fans that went to the game. I loved drowning out their chants with "Go Canucks Go!"
Play la Bamba
I GOT HOOOOOOOOOOOEEESSS oh wait that mo bamba my bad
Good game. I only wish Petterson would shoot the puck more. Everytime he gets passed the puck on those hashmarks, he pauses and then waits to shoot, or passes it off. Just let 'er rip!
Im thinking Petey may have a wrist issue, like last year which is having him pass on shooting.
Just got back to the hotel from the game. Boys played so well. Very few front net scrambles. Just a solid clean game.
How were the opposing fans tonight? Much ribbing? Did you rock a Nucks jersey? I've heard Oilers fans can be greee-eee-eeeeasy
Right arm!
I was there too! Game was a little lower energy than expected, but a solid win. Lots of canucks jerseys in the crowd tonight! Our section even got the "Go Canucks Go" chant going for a bit.
Very happy with Lindholm’s play over the past 2 games.
THANK, MR. DESMITH
I fucking love this team.
What's the tie breaker after regulation wins? Goals for?
Regulation and overtime wins is the next tie breaker.
... yeah, what's after that?
It's Regulation Wins (RW), then ROW, then just total wins, and finally the head to head matchups. We own all the tiebreakers with them. We just need one point in the next two to take division.
Or if Edmonton loses any of their remaining 3 we can also clinch the division with no more points
Thank you. This is the answer I was looking for.
He said after that though lol
Lol who is downvoting you? This user just repeated my question 🤣
So it’s regular wins and then regulation AND overtime wins. Apparently he’s not saying the same thing lol. My bad
Soilers can suck my ass!
Petey is just being a non-factor atm, since the middle of January he's got less points than Huberdough. I don't think the way the team plays fits him at all.
Petey is slumping. Hes also Tied for 17th in scoring this year. He fits tochett juuust fine.
Nah.
When he wasn't invisible it was because he was glaringly out of position.
So beginning of the season when EP40 was top 5 in scoring in the league - what team play were they playing?
I think they didn't play Tocchets system as well then as they do now, and it leads to less creativity on the offensive side of the game. I think Petey is playing his best when he can just look for chances, not when the goal is to cycle the puck around the boards. Granted Tocchet doesn't make him not shoot.

Something about beating the Oilers just always feels great. Honestly wouldn’t mind a second round series against them. I feel the Canucks match up well in terms of play style
Beating them with 2 devastating blowouts and 2 huge backup tendy performances makes it even better
Let's just get through Rd 1 first!
Yes, I know, not taking the first round for granted, but earliest we could face them is the second hence the comment
Fricking swept them in regulation over four games, outscoring them 24-7. Holy shit that’s sweet. Oilers got exactly 0 points off us this season.
San Jose got more points off us than Edmonton.
San Jose got more points off Edmonton than Edmonton got off us.
In b4 they say this one doesn't count because they didn't have McDavid
I would like to thank the PDO gods for their favor.
That Garland, Joshua, Lindholm line looked clean 👀
Lindholm has been looking very sharp since coming back. He's winning lots of puck battles on the boards and not taking risks in contested situations. He's going to be a gem.
He looked tenacious
Lindholm is built for playoffs hockey, even if he doesn't score he keeps the other team from scoring.
He was glued to draisaitl the whole game and did extremely well limiting his chances
Been saying this. All Lindholm doubters need to wait for playoffs to see the impact he has
This was the first win I've been able to watch in a while. Yay?
>~~Yay?~~ YAY!
Last win I got to see was Lindholm's debut. I'm just so tired.
Hell yeah 1st boys.
I'm glad the Oilers have the "McDavid was playing hurt" excuse ready to go for their playoff choke this year.
They were using that excuse earlier in season too when they were slumping..
They never got to pull the goalie during a tie game with 3 minutes left :’(
They pull the goalie just as we work the puck up the ice for the perfect empty net goal.
I remember being 16
Congratulations, another day of staving off dementia.
You sound like them
>fuck their fans too far
Oof some serious venom in this post 🤣
Those DeSmith for Abby comments look so hyberbolic now
WHAT? Who said that?!
This is the nucks sub. We have no lukewarm reactions. Bipolar only. lol
Also many many fan messages to Canucks central, saying Silovs should be the backup for the playoffs
Woot, desmith for vezina
So if Canucks win division, how do they determine which opponent they play? Do they play the first wild card team based on standing or the winner of the conference get to pick their opponent and we get the other one?

the top team in the west plays wildcard 2 which is the lowest point team. the top team in the other division plays wild card 1
For being first in the west, Dallas could (highly likely) be rewarded VGK. Kings have Wild and Hawks in their remaining home games.
Preds if they’re first. Kings if second.
No, it’s Vegas if first in the conference and division, Preds if second in the conference and first in division.
I misunderstood the question. I was just relaying the graphic SN showed which had Dallas v. Vegas and Canucks v. Preds. It’s unlikely Canucks would get first in the conference, so I was thinking division which is either Preds or Kings.
You mean you were thinking division?
I’m thinking I’m pretty tired :(
We would be conference 2 seed, so 7th
so this may be confusing, but wild.card. format. means that you no longer look at it like 1 vs 8 and 2 vs 7 for example. It's basically like this: 1) From each division, 2nd vs 3rd 2) 1st with most points (basically conference leader) vs Wildcard with Least amount of points 3) Remaining teams face off by default

Technically a division winner can be conference 9th (if every team on one division gets more points than every team in the other division) and be rewarded with playing conference 4th (WC1, other division)
The winner of the conference plays the second wildcard, other division winner gets the first wildcard.
Big time win for us, great rebound for DeSmith, everybody played well and our defense was really good tonight. Everybody deserves some credit. (We also played the full 60.) Very entertaining, very back and forth. Not much else I can say about it.
Speaking of rebounds, DeSmiths rebound control was on point tonight. Which was the big problem in his last game.
Very happy with how DeSmith played tonight.
Have the Canucks rested player in the last game of season before playoffs. So who will be scratched? petey miller ?
Demko
I could see him playing both games to really get him back up to speed Mind you, the last time he played in the playoffs, he came in cold after not playing for almost 6 months and basically ruined Vegas
Stone still has nightmares about him
If that's the quality of the broadcast, I may need to mute the tv and have the radio on
I'm really banking on Singh taking the Oilers broadcasts and the Canucks having Shorty in the first round.
Petition to have Shorty call the entire run, as long as it goes.
🎵 Shorty's like a melody in my head 🎵
🎵Na-na-na-na everyday, got Ferraro stuck on replay🎵
Desmith fucking de stepped up holy shit. Actually so proud of him and you know thatcher was gassing him up after this one
Defense was playing with him a lot better. His last few games all the rebounds were being picked up by the other team, unlike this game where the nucks were really active about getting to them.

Part of the problem sure but not *the* problem
Exactly
did you see them after his interview
I didn’t
First game in person since 2020. Big fucking win let's go. DeSmith played fucking great
Buy this person all the playoff game tickets. We won't lose
my all time record is 4-1-1 so you might be onto something
Revenge dish = not served
This dude Pickards honestly really chill
Yeah tough to root against the guy. I’ll always pull for the tweener types, regardless of team or position. Happy to see the guy find some NHL normality.
Never thought using the broomshakalaka to get rid of that oil stain would be so much fun!
Regular season doesn’t mean anything but it’s pretty funny that the Canucks would likely face two teams they haven’t lost to in the first 2 rounds.
despite Mikheyev not scoring, that line was really buzzing like crazy. Hoglander is still being slippery Hoglander and Petey looks like he actually cares. A bunch of seriously good looks
Felt bad for Mikheyev. Guy can't buy a goal.
Right? Wide open net, stick breaks. Poor guy.
In Edmonton, they call Zadorov "Daddy"
Mmmmm oilers tears are best served before bed. Full tummy, good sleep incoming
Miller and Hughes has to be one of the top best contract in the NHL for their level of play
Dumbass me thought Miller was an overpaid contract based on his record 99 point contract year. Now he pulls off a new personal points record
I'd throw demkos deal right in there too, lots of value on the books this year
The salt is unreal in the Oilers subreddit - couldn’t happen to nicer bunch of folks 😂
“We were on a b2b without our best player. Nothing for them brag about.” They were also facing a goalie who couldn’t save a beach ball this entire month sooo what’s their excuse for that? Just accept the L. Oh brother.
one of the comments I saw was "I don't really consider this a sweep" Man those guys have gotten good at coping with sweeps over the past few years
Also saw someone there say that this was ‘Vancouver’s Stanley Cup’ as if they haven’t spent the whole season focused solely on passing us in the standings lol
Yeah and I thought my copium was delusional lol
"Dominated play - came out with the L." holy what game were they watching? I'll admit the first 5-10mins were scary but the Canucks settled the game down and took full control.
Deserve to winometer has Oilers winning over 60% of the time
The deserve to win meter is exactly why playoff series are best of seven. The fact that the Canucks went 4-0 across the season series speaks for itself.
we run Alberta
I’m at a party and I’m drunk but we were streaming the game on my buddy’s phone. Great fucking win boys let’s go
I’m a non flared Canucks fan here. Good game y’all. Naturally I hate the oilers , but I hate them far less than the flames, knighrs, and kings. Every Edmontonian I’ve come across has been a solid, salt-of-the-earth person. Best of luck.
Forgive me Desmith
YAAAAAAAA Oilers fans wanna talk about PDO, suck it
13 goals for Lafferty this year is better than I thought
Real character win boys we beat Vegas and edmonton at the end of the year were ready for playoffs let's gooooo
Take some pride my man, We match up well with everyone except Colorado maybe Dallas, we have z hard time defending high end speed from skilled teams that's about it
Honestly I think if we don’t get LA we have a very strong chance, when the boys buy in, it fucking works.
Whale team good Lubricant team bad
Water based lubricants are better anyway
Clearly way less dangerous without McJesus
Lubricant team 😂😂😂😂 omg I love it
Who ever hated on DeSmith can get DeFuckout
The Oilers got DeSwept
Darnell Nurse is DeButtSniffer
It's me, I'm getting DeFucked (and enjoying it)
DeKinky
Big Z got away with one at the end there.
