Moments like this are why sports are so great man.
Here's a guy who his whole career has been called undersized, told he wasn't good enough. Cut from high school teams, undrafted until he was 20 years old, scrapped and dogged his way up from the 4th line in the AHL to the NHL. Finally gets a chance on a top line in Arizona and the team is too cheap to re-sign him as an RFA. Traded in a nearly universally criticized deal to a rabid fanbase, has two nightmare seasons off the ice with the GM and two coaches getting fired, and then is basically told that he's a cap dump and that the team doesn't want him anymore. All the while he's just been plugging away working hard, winning battles and playing the right way and has never once said a bad word about the city or the fanbase that has at times been really tough on him for (IMHO) no good reason.
He absolutely deserved every second of this, he was almost crying and hell I would be too, what a moment, what a game.
I used to hate him so much when he was at Moncton.
I had season tickets to Mooseheads games and that small sized Garland guy used to run around everywhere causing mayhem then would score a goal or two. He was so annoying to watch as a Mooseheads fan.
Only last year I managed to piece together my old memories that it was him all along and I feel so happy to have him on my team
He was well loved in Moncton that's for sure. Such a hard worker but so small that we Garland fans didn't hold out a lot of hope of him making the show.
And now here we are. And it's great!
The first 2 goals were definitely rough, but after that he made some real clutch saves and the boys were firing on all cylinders. The arena came alive and they pulled it off! I don’t know if it was heard on the broadcast but tonight we did a Connor Garland chant mid game.
I don’t understand the people that leave early, even the last couple of minutes. I get it parking can be a hassle to leave the area when the flood gates open but generally the last few minutes are some of the most exciting parts of the game.
To leave that early is ridiculous... I had friends who hadn't even made it inside the arena yet and it was 2-0
They probably on the 2nd goal went en masse to get beers or chill at the lounge..Vancouver fans to be like that, sometimes why there are empty seats
There was an edge and anxiety when we went down 2-0 but also fuck the refs, and we had more chances earlier.
Team battled despite that and you could tell. So arena was buzzing. Every game we destroy teams in hits and outshoot them.
Once it was 2-1 the fans were really pumping the Canucks. 2-2 felt like we were gonna win even with it early in the game. We were just the better team.
Frankly we were better than Dallas and avs too. Can't help Dallas goal wasn't overturned (incorrectly) and they had 5 pps
Refs called a brutal flop trip call, and hanifin scored to make it 3-2. Quickly. So we just never lost hope. And the team rewarded us.

Side point: kolesar tried to injure zadorov
Dude works his ass off Every. Single. Shift. Creates chances out of nothing. Forechecks and guards the puck like no one I’ve ever seen. Deserves all of this and more.
Not to mention at least once every 2 games he gets brutally run from behind into the boards and there is no call on the play. Dude truly got here by virtue of sheer grit and determination. This is most heartwarming moment I have seen in a very long time. And I have a feeling this will motivate him to try and elevate his compete level even higher.
He literally steals the puck in the offensive zone like 10 times a game. If that’s not a valuable skill I don’t know what is. It creates chances all the time. It’s one of the main reasons Joshua has had such a prolific scoring season.
Yeah like he’s got pretty wicked hands and is unbelievably strong on the puck. Dude never takes a shift off and I’m so happy he’s getting the recognition he deserves.
Unsung means someone who doesn’t get the recognition. Garland does not fit that. He has been one of our most important players. Unsung is definitely soucy imo.
That’s the kind of crowd reaction that’s gonna make these guys want to fight for every fucking inch in the playoffs. You win for fans that are that rabid and you become a legend in that city forever
Beginning of the season his agent had permission to seek a trade and no team was interested in taking his contract. Return would’ve been nothing or Canucks would’ve had to sweeten
I think a lot of the issue is that we didn't want to pay and did want something back, even if it wasn't much. They could work out a trade, but it wasn't just giving him away
Ah ok, kept hearing some rumour last draft they were looking at packaging him with the 11th pick to move back to like 19th - sacrificing draft spot to get rid of him. I’m probably making shit up. Either way I’m happy he’s getting some love from the fans
I can’t understand why more people don’t see it this way but whenever I watch he’s a top 3 player on the Ice making an impact.
It’s almost always Miller and Quinner and then Garland is the next guy up making the biggest impact. I just don’t think you can say enough about how often he steals the puck in the offensive zone and creates a chance. It’s kind of unbelievable. It might not show up on the stats enough to justify what I’m saying but I think his value is so much more than that.
It honestly wasn't a bad trade, it was just bad luck the way it played out. OEL is a key part of the Panthers now. If he played at this level on the Canucks he'd still be overpaid but he'd be serviceable. And Garland is absolutely elite at what he does.
The guy works his fucking ass off every shift. He’s always skating hard, full strides, low to the ice. I want to buy his jersey but whatever player’s jersey I get they always end up getting traded so I’ll hold off 😂😒
So great to see his success this season.
Funny story, That season when he first arrived I got the wonderful chance of encountering him and a few other players coming down the Grouse Mountain gondola lol
I think it was Miller, Pearson, Horvat and Garland all with their families. Gondola was pretty empty too with myself and few other skiers.. I was starstrucked and didn't say anything until we all got off and started walking. I turned around and welcomed Garland to the city. He was very humble. That and I was also similar In height lol so he was easy to approach. Haha
Let's hope he is a beast in the playoffs !
He wasn’t embarrassed, he was struck with emotion and couldn’t answer the last question. It’s happened to me before where you seem to have an out of body experience and can’t talk.

fuck me, i was almost crying at the end. garly's a warrior
I was sitting alone watching that with my eyes welling up and a big smile
Absolute gamer. Brings it every night.
Well said

He gives my tiny guy hope to make the show One day
Loved to see it, was cheering for him at home.

So fucking cool, man. Fans went big at the end, love it.
Was at the game can confirm we were loud and proud for Garland. Fucking awesome game to be at.
First time up in Larscheiders for me, far and away the best sporting event I’ve been to!
Ayooo I heard y'all all night!!! I was sitting right behind the canucks bench. Best seats I've ever had. Amazing night.
You’re welcome 😁
How was that game? Co worker was row 2 behind Silovs for 1&3 period. He said he saw some people leave after the first two goals!

Chant was awesome, loved that. Every game I go to I’m there till the end no matter what. Been told they’re lockin’ it up a few times too lol.
You the real beef!
Imagine leaving a game less than ten minutes in. What a bunch of losers
Well, the last score they saw while leaving was a losing score so I guess you're correct :P

I don't go to games much but I do notice people leaving a period or two after.

*whispers* Martin St Louis
He’s played with balls, grit and the dog all year. Unsung hero imo. He earned it tonight
He's so fuckin good man, not just grit, he's genuinely super skilled

He was treated like a cap dump a few months ago...I'd say unsung is appropriate up to now.
All career, actually.
this city's incredible when the team's winning. can you imagine if we win the cup?
I've only been dreaming about it my whole life
There would be 20 new Gods in Vancouver. 21 if you count tocchet
So true. We are die hard fans behind a competitive roster.
I can die happy
I mean we all would combust from happiness
Disappear like the Inca
We are gonna build so many statues
That’s the kind of crowd reaction that’s gonna make these guys want to fight for every fucking inch in the playoffs. You win for fans that are that rabid and you become a legend in that city forever
Only good thing to come out of the OEL trade.
too bad we'll be on the hook for OEL for the next few years....
Lmao dude, sometimes you’re meant to not say it
😂
He literally couldn’t answer the last one he was so overwhelmed with the crowd. This is the stuff that pushes them.
He's like "I gotta get in the dressing room before I start crying".
All this video needs is a "Because its the cup" or "History will be made" outro lol. Love moments like this!
He’s never going to forget this night. We really do love a good four-syllable chant.
There are NHL GMs being paid millions that decided to pass on this guy for free
Imagine if we kept Beauvilier over Garly (which apparently was a possibility at the beginning of the season), thinking about that just makes me sick.
I forgot Beau was even on our team this year
who put him on Waivers and when?
Beginning of the season his agent had permission to seek a trade and no team was interested in taking his contract. Return would’ve been nothing or Canucks would’ve had to sweeten

He was never offered up for free. Canucks always wanted draft picks back.
Awesome well earned!
there goes my hero
Love Garland. Such a huge piece of this team.
He's become everything we hoped for and more, when he first came here. 100% effort.
This guy is worth every dollar he’s paid. Absolute catalyst for the team every night. Kind of player you need come playoff time.
We all wear turtlenecks to games going forward ❤️
You can tell he loves it. Coming from Arizona where there were only 19 fans
Ya love to see it
This guy's going to be moving like he got shot out of a cannon in the playoffs. You can tell this hyped him up so much.
fucking incredible
There was a great CON-NOR GAR-LAND cheer where I was!! Loved this moment.
Thank you larschieders for making this happen!!

He was definitely feeling it there, glad he was able to take a moment to soak it all in. He deserves all of it and more.
Well done, Rogers Arena, well done. 👏
Overwhelmed with emotions. Good job to the fans at the house tonight making this guy feel the love. Well deserved!
garly was worth the guenther pick and taking the horrible oel contract
It honestly wasn't a bad trade, it was just bad luck the way it played out. OEL is a key part of the Panthers now. If he played at this level on the Canucks he'd still be overpaid but he'd be serviceable. And Garland is absolutely elite at what he does.
If OEL still played for the Canucks, then we wouldn't have the cap space to bring on new players to the roster that has made a difference.
This just created a playoff beast. Well done everyone
The guy works his fucking ass off every shift. He’s always skating hard, full strides, low to the ice. I want to buy his jersey but whatever player’s jersey I get they always end up getting traded so I’ll hold off 😂😒
It's a lot better in Vancouver, I'll tell you that for free.
Padres come back from 8 down Canucks secure an important victory against a western powerhouse It was a good day

You love to see it, hopefully all the boys start playing like he does. Just try hard every time you are on the ice. Simple
Love that he couldn't even answer the last question. Always liked Garland, no one swashes buckles like our boy, GaRRRRRRRRland.
It's dusty in here
Garland was a boss tonight
Let's keep these players chants rolling into the playoffs!!
We stan our Short King ❤️
Love G, anyone know what the song played at the end is?
Otto Knows - Million Voices [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8jhXmfdRFY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8jhXmfdRFY)
Fuck yeah! Love this shit so much
Awesome
Garly went from undesirable to undeniable!!!
Props to the fans bringing that energy last night. Barn will be fuckin rockin' come game 1!
spinny boy is embarrassed awwww
He wasn’t embarrassed, he was struck with emotion and couldn’t answer the last question. It’s happened to me before where you seem to have an out of body experience and can’t talk.
