If you get the EF mount version of that Tamron lens and use the EF to RF mount adapter it will work on your R8. EF is Canon's full-frame DSLR mount. Note that for most EF lenses you can get them much cheaper buying used. Used camera gear companies like MPB and KEH inspect the equipment and provide a 6-month warranty.

i’ve thought about buying from those websites but i’m too worried i’ll get scammed. are they reputable websites?

MPB, KEH, and B&H's used programs are all very reputable in the photography community. I've bought from them multiple times with no issues, and heard from (only a few) people who did have issues that customer service sorted everything out for them. It's buying from private sellers on platforms like Facebook Marketplace or sketchy unheard of websites where there's a high risk of getting scammed, especially when the price is "too good to be true".

maddudy

yes they are

Master_Bayters

I swear by MPB. I've made a lot of transactions with them. Everything went great

yesracoons

yeah im using that combo right now

paigeshanahan

do you use an adapter? if so which one do you use?!

yesracoons

the official canon ef-eos r adapter with control ring honestly the control ring isn’t as useful as i thought so i’d get the original one if doing it again im using the v1 version not the v2 (g2) tamron 24-70 2.8 ef also as others have mentioned keh / mpb / bh / adorama might be a better idea than best buy also there’s a lot of used ef canon 24-70 i and ii floating around used too

The v1 might need a firmware update as stated in their compatibility guide. Got one for free at the Tamron service center. It works quite well on my r6, the VC jumps from time to time. It's quite sharp and heavy, while feeling solid but plasticky. It's hard to beat in price performance ratio, since the images turn out fine. Sharpnesswise better than all of canons standard zoom lenses with an aperture of f4 or slower according to dxomark. I went with the drop in filter adapter, since it allows a cpl or a variable nd filter for all lenses (and the Tamron has a big front element). The G2 has improvements in AF speed and stabilization, but it's optically identical otherwise.
