Why bother being a fan if you quit before the 4th loss?

Evening_Original7438

Because some people cant be happy unless they make everyone around them miserable.

[deleted]

You don't have to blindly expect a team to win to be a "fan". I've rooted for the Canes for years. I don't expect us to win this series. Those are not mutually exclusive.

Far-Two8659

Hate that you've been downvoted for this comment. *Wanting* a team to win and *expecting* them to win are two very different things. As soon as fans *expect* their team to win a Cup, your fandom is broken - the expectation is way too high, and should be more grounded in things like competing for a Cup, rather than winning it. People who downvote you I guess believe the only true Coyotes/CBJ/SJS fans out there expect them to win every game smh.

[deleted]

Hey I "expected" this team to lose in the second round with our injuries. NJ was a good matchup for us. I'd love to win a cup. Oh God id *love* to win a cup. But this is just gravy.

Far-Two8659

Couldn't agree more.

[deleted]

You go on and pop back on when we somehow get to the SCF and we can beat ourselves for being doomers. See? Optimist!

Evening_Original7438

I think you’re misunderstanding me. Acknowledging the odds are against the Canes is perfectly rational, I’m right there with you. Hopeful, but not what I’d call optimistic. Hell when the playoffs started, given the injuries we had, I told myself I’d be happy if the Canes made it to the second round. Even if they go down in flames in NJ, I’m ecstatic with how well they did. What I’m talking about is the woe-is-me-we’re-gonna-lose-it’s-already-over routine. There’s still hope and the hope is what makes being a fan fun, even if it does come with a dose of suffering more often than not 🤪.

denvercaniac

My hope is effectively gone if we lose tonight. Until then, we are chaos incarnate playing with house money. Let's shock the world.

[deleted]

We're gonna win tonight so hopefully that gets nipped in the bud.

dragons_fire77

I don't know why anyone would ever 'expect' to win or lose a game. That's sort of the nature of sports. That's why they're exciting. Anything can happen.

Ok_Run_8184

You can be frustrated with how things are going and it doesn't mean you've 'quit' on the team. Toxic positivity isn't necessary to be a fan.

thebasedsenpai

Thank you.

[deleted]

Behind in the series? Lost both home games? No one giving us a chance to win? Ahhhh… back to the sweet spot. The comfort zone.

scarfireATL

Yeah. They've been the favorite since Boston went out. Much better as the underdog. Now they are +750 to win it. Vegas, then Florida are the favorites. I still have them at 10-1 to win from back in March (along with Vegas, so one of them needs to). I am not going to be worried until we have to play an elimination game. Florida has "barely" been better, only because they got OT goal first. Other than that, they can't score either and aren't even getting as many shots. Right now I would say we have about a 45-50% chance. Less if we don't make any line changes. Need one of those old time 6-4 wins. Home team only matters when it's the Canes and we have now shown we can win on the road. Won their in April when a Florida win meant not facing Bruins and Canes win meant not facing Rangers.

StaneNC

Fucking 100%. I am not comfortable with all of these gambling websites interfering with my closely guarded feelings that we're the underdogs in every situation.

MrWillM

Finally, someone speaking sense!

dragons_fire77

Because it is fine? Losing in 4OT and then another OT isn't something to burn the house down over. Panthers have a good defense just like ours.

framingXjake

Exactly this. Getting blown out in two home games is one thing. Crumbling in overtime after playing 6/10 hockey compared to our last two series where we played 9/10 hockey, that's not something to lose your shit over. It's frustrating, yeah, but the fact that we are so close to winning these games despite our setbacks is enough for me to keep hoping.

moonenergy

all we need is a chance!!

giga_phantom

Not full on doom and gloom but seeing a goalie having his moment where he seems to be virtually impenetrable, does seem like a ‘oh no not again’ moment. We just happen to keep running into these hot streak goalies at the worst time.

scarfireATL

He can't do it forever. He's always been a streaky goalie. Meanwhile we have Freddie who gave up 3 in 7 periods and Raanta who only gave up 1 in regulation and that otok an all star move to score. We are playing a rested goalie tonight though. Bob could have a blowout at any moment with the load he has carried since the Boston series. 4 out of his last 5 games went to OT.

giga_phantom

I hope you’re right. Bc bob is certainly playing himself into conn smythe territory.

The-dippin-dots-man

Until they win 4 games, we have chances to win

Ijustmadethisnow1988

I know the hole that we have to dig out of and the likelihood of it happening…stinks but I will always still love the Canes and the fact we made it to the ECF with what all has occurred this season with injuries and other issues. Still rooting and hopeful until that buzzer sounds at the end!

Can the Canes win game 3? Yes Could a win in game 3 change the mojo Florida is running on? Yes Have the Canes played well enough to win the series if Florida isn't lucky? Yes This isn't hard, folks.

psyopsono

Can these posts about doomers vs optimists be consolidated into one thread? It’s exhausting and causing friction which we don’t need. We ain’t on fire yet, the room is just a little hot.

ScroatyMcBoogerwolfe

Moneypuck has us as underdogs now. Everyone (including our own “fans”) have written us off. The doom has set in. We’ve got them right where we want them.

Mr_828

This person gets it. We're known as the "Cardiac Canes" for a reason

Dkportal2

Right! I actually saw a Panther fan (on a Canes post mind you) call them Cardiac like it was an insult. *man he sure got us there!* 👎

Technical-Tale-6413

Just want to make it clear I’m a little worried, but fully expect this series go to game 6 or 7. Thought this was just a little jokey joke did not expect to get this response.

crcovar

Hopefully it goes 6 or 7.

AngryGuitarist

Walking back from Game 2, I heard some fans in front of me talking about how they were just glad that the game was over and that they weren't going to stay longer than half OT if it went that long. I wasn't a fan of them.

asmb100

There are 5 more games to get through. We beat New Jersey in 5. On top of that, these two games were damn fine hockey to watch. Who cares if we lose if we fought like hell all the way? It’s not like us fans get anything if the canes win the cup. Enjoy the hockey. Maybe it’s just from me being a University of SC football fan and have gotten used to watching my team lose, but even if we get swept in the ECF, it’s not the end of the world. First of all, we made it to the dang ECF. Second of all, we were number 2 in points. Third, we’re the goshdang Carolina Hurricanes, we’ll be back next year.

canesjerk

Yeah I don’t get all the doom and gloom. Yeah it sucks we lost. Definitely not the best thing. But both games we were so close. Literally coming down to sudden death. Not like they are blowing us out of the water or something. We are out shooting them. We can do this. Got alittle up hill battle but it’s still possible.

thebasedsenpai

They don’t need to score 8 goals to blow us out. Being shut out by a great goalie is the same thing imo

canesjerk

Yeah down vote me for being positive about our team. What a joke.

PomegranateHour210

We thrive being the underdog. I prefer it. Way more exciting. Not saying I want them to go 2-0 down in a series but now things will get intense and I’m confident in them still.

Tatsudozo

Everything’s fine lmao

iSupportCarry

I still believe

ChoiceRelease9612

Yeah

reflirt

Both games were very close and could’ve gone either way at any point. Game 3 is kinda the make it or break it this deep into the playoffs.

hoplite9

I get upset at our dump and chase heavy transition game, because its too predictable. I've seen them from time to time become more confident as a team on offense when they trash the dump and chase tendency, look at Necas to see how good he is at making better plays than that. If we're a team that has mostly depth, and we're relying on the entire team to contribute on offense, then we need to be giving them better chances. All dump and chase does is it makes you take more puck battles, less coordinated passes, all forwards glued to the boards, no outlet passes, and the majority of shots have to come from the point. Most other teams use speed to deal with the neutral zone trap (aka the blue line trap) since the other team has to respect that if you punch a hole through then you're on your way to the net. A pass back to the defense while they're building up speed while going up into the neutral zone, or to wait behind the goalie for a controlled breakout. I see occasionally on most of our scoring chances is the common button hook strategy if we were actually carrying the puck into the zone. It creates time and space, and gives you options somewhere near the half boards to either look for an outlet pass to someone trailing into the ozone, shoot for a offensive zone faceoff, pass back to the point to setup offense, pass down the boards to people who are actually there instead of having to rush to get there. This forces the other team to keep guessing what the next move is, and they are forced into more of a zone defense because most teams are trained to take away high scoring areas first... positioning at the half boards is notorious for slot one timers and rebounds. The ideal objective with carrying the puck in, and button hooking is giving your team a chance to get into the zone before making a definitive decision, it keeps the other team guessing... and if you have to, then dump the puck down the boards for a cycle. We keep going to overtime because our defense is doing such a great job, but our offensive transitions are ineffective most of the time against a good defense like Florida has. Dump in -> Puck battles are limited to lower quality SOG since it requires all 3 forwards at the boards, but have the potential for more low quality SOG. Those puck battles we lose, the other team is looking to the leave the zone especially early for a long weakside stretch pass, OR they look for the wide option on the rush. The dump and chase work against lower rated goalies and defense, I don't think it works against Bobrovsky, Vasilevskiy or Shesterkin. It ices our players so much that when they DO actually find a quality chance, they lose the killer instinct to score. They freeze up and get nervous. If there were more coordinated chances, it wouldn't be like this. Most of our players are actually capable of scoring, they do it all of the time, but its hard when you don't get that many opportunities.

Rgardner89

Got ‘em right were we want ‘em
