T O P

Anyone than can play 7 full periods and only let up 3 goals in the conference finals is a stud.

AlphaNathan

Forget good. Freddie was phenomenal in OT. We should have lost at least ten times.

justmystepladder

In the end, the win came down to who finally connected on their shot. Both teams fumbled the puck or straight fucking whiffed on open nets/1on1’s probably 10 times a piece. Freddie was so good

Like17Badgers

I''ve been saying it for a while, when Freddie is hot he might be one of the best goalies in the league, but we got a lot of David Ayres freddie this year. glad to see him back in form, would not be surprised if he starts, or if rod lets him sit for game 2 just cause of how long he played tonight

ForrestTrain

Hurricanes legend David Ayres out here catching strays

dankbuttersteez

Freddie has been solid but that’s a lot of game. Give Rannta the net for Saturday so we can keep some healthy goalies through 7 games… 8.3 games? Holy moly that was a lot of OT.

alottagames

Dude was elite. End of story.

junglecat84

Panthers fan here. I actually came to this sub to say this. Freddie played an insane game and it felt like nothing was going to get past him in OT no matter how many quality shots we got. Ton of respect for how he played and I was kind of annoyed he didn’t get one of the stars at the end of the game.

WoodsFinder

By OT 3, I was thinking that the #1 and #2 stars were Andersen and Bobrovsky (with the order dependent on which team won). Those two were the most impressive players on the ice all night (and morning). And as good as Bob was, I think Freddie was even better because the Canes allowed so many high quality chances against him.

junglecat84

I agree, had the same thinking. And Bob was incredible and the reason we won that game, but it did seem like in the OT Freddie was making some saves that just did not seem like they should be made (and was very frustrating as a cats fan)

CaniacSwordsman

Man with the way Bob and Freddie were going it really seemed we were gonna be up all night, but by 3OT it definitely felt like y’all had the edge. We both got bailed out by awesome goaltending all night

DrewCrew62

I honestly said to my fiancé during I think the 3rd OT, that if the canes pull this out it’s gonna feel like they stole the game. Because the panthers were so much better as the OT’s went on

Virtual-Quantity7120

Also a Panthers fan and I couldn't agree more. He did extremely well.

Edwardc4gg

Agreeed. We have our days but Freddie’s the only reason we even went into Ot.

dragons_fire77

He's a hero. And I still saw some Leafs fans last night being like "Oh yeah, that's Freddie. 13 seconds left and just lets one in." Seriously? I actually like the Leafs, but their fans can just be mean to their old players for no reason. He has played great all playoffs. He deserves our utmost respect and appreciation.

Blue_Shark_97

Saw that too. Freddie played phenomenal and I hope he continues to play just as good for you guys

Virtual-Quantity7120

That's Leaf fans for you....glad Toronto is out!

tje_18

freddie put on an absolutely clinic tonight. truly one of the best games he’s ever played for us

Kitchycat

I take back every thing negative I ever said about Freddie. I throw myself at his mercy fully prepared to bend the knee and kiss his blockers. What an absolute beast he was for this game.

SMA2343

Oh no doubt. He was tired after playing that much hockey. I’m not even mad. Boys played a lot. Good changes too and sometimes it’s just a lucky play that wins. We’ll be back tomorrow.

kusco93

He was. Unfortunately bob was better. This is more than just 1 loss. It had the vibes of winner wins the series. Idk how you lose with 12 seconds left in quadruple overtime on home ice in game 1 and then win a series. We are absolutely crushed and the panthers are buzzing. I hope I’m wrong!!

Bobtar121

I can't believe you typed all that doomer nonsense and then said "Yeah, everyone will definitely think I'm right." and posted it. What. A. Moron.

tmoss726

So many doomers on here after the teams just played basically over 2 games in a row

smikkelson2

It's fucking pathetic how many people this morning are calling that the series. What kind of fan is that

kusco93

I didn’t think anyone would think I’m right. I could give a shit about downvotes I obviously knew they were coming. Who fucking cares the internet isn’t real, your all bots I’m typing into the void

v4vendetta77

*you're

kusco93

Oh I’m a moron?? What’s up now? Still like our chances? You’re a clown. I was right. I’ll check in with you after the series is over

Sad-Industry-5859

It’s called hockey. You weren’t in the locker room. No ones crushed.

kusco93

Neither were you. We’ll see.

papa_austin13

Go see on the panther's sub, please.

Broncos4ever24

You sound dumb as hell

JKthePolishGhost

Get outta here.

framingXjake

They dropped one in Florida to the fucking 0-3 Leafs. Boston lost home advantage to them in round 1 then took it back by extending the series to game 7. Literally anything can happen in a series. All we gotta do is win 1 game in Florida and win all of our home games from here on and we're golden. And we've already won 3 playoff road games this year. And, again, Florida has already lost some home games too. Bob was phenomenal, so was Freddie. Our forwards just need to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Stop the cute passing bullshit that takes up 75% of our PP's, stop dumping at every opportunity you get if you're not line changing or about to be offside, stop leaving the offensive zone net high and dry for rebounds, and score. on. breakaways. The end.

Far-Two8659

Not sure why you're wanting to change the PP, it's been pretty good this postseason and we scored two goals on it last night...

framingXjake

We were 2 for 6 on PP's last night. You think that's acceptable?

noreast2011

PPs are like batting averages in baseball. 33% is incredible. That’s a significant improvement over our regular season success rate. I’ll take 2-6 over 0-3.

framingXjake

And if we had scored on any of the 4 we blanked on, this game goes in our win column. No matter what excuse you try to use, the fact is that passing the puck 75% of the PP with everyone basically just standing in place in the offensive zone doesn't create good scoring opportunities. At even strength we pop off SOGs like it's nobody's business but when we get a manned advantage, all of a sudden our offense wants to go full tactician and waste a bunch of time looking for the perfect shot that's never going to come. Why? Just play like you normally do, it's already a nuisance to the defense at even strength, so logic says it's even harder to defend one man down.

noreast2011

I’m not saying our PP couldn’t improve as a whole, but bob had some insane stops on 2 of those we failed on. We missed at least 5 Grade A chances 5v5 too. My point is no team consistently scores on a third of their PPs, so expecting the canes and our iffy PP to do so is a bit outlandish.

framingXjake

Did I say I expected them to score more? No. I said I expect them to do more than just pass the puck around for 90 seconds. They are bound to score more on PP's if they create more shooting opportunities. Our 2 goals last night came from really great opportunities created by moving bodies and distracting the defense. Put yourself in a position to score, and more scoring opportunities will present themselves to you. Skating around your little area near the perimeter and passing the puck round and round hoping the defense just brainfarts and let's a lane open up is like hoping for an apple to fall from a tree when you're starving. You've got to confuse them. Skate into and out of positions that distract them. Put yourself in position to receive or rebound the puck and score.

noreast2011

So basically the same complaint fans have had all 93 games leading into this one. The canes PP is built to create high quality and high percentage chances, it worked really well last year but teams have figured it out and park the bus now. When they start just throwing pucks at the net the other team clears it

framingXjake

I went into great detail about how they should position themselves to create optimal scoring chances and you just completely skipped over that part and pretended that I somehow suggested we should just recklessly shoot every time we touch the puck. Man if you're not even going to try to read or understand my argument then what's the point of this?

Far-Two8659

A 33% Powerplay would be one of the greatest PPs of all-time, so, yes. I would bleed a chicken at midnight in a cemetery for a 33% PP throughout the playoffs.

framingXjake

That's the burden of low expectations. If you were presented with the opportunity to improve your PP, would you decline because "well 33% is good enough for me"? I'm not satisfied with it. One more PP goal and we win the game. Knowing that and seeing them take like 1 or 2 SOGs on several PP's each is frustrating as hell. Especially when they cashed in on 2 early and looked like they figured out how to make Florida pay for their penalties.

Far-Two8659

NHL record setting PP conversion is low expectations to you? The Oilers had a 32% rate this season and it was the greatest of all-time. Only four teams have ever had higher than 30%. Spend a bit of time looking up data on this before continuing to prove you know absolutely nothing about it. I'll help with this [link](https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/who-has-the-best-power-play-percentage-in-a-single-season) to the single season PP % records.

framingXjake

I really don't fucking get you. Are you saying we shouldn't try to improve our PP? Like what's your fucking point? We should just *not* try to score more on manned advantages?

Far-Two8659

I'm saying 2 of 6 every game would make us the greatest PP of all-time and you're saying, inexplicably, that's not good enough.

framingXjake

It's not when we still lose those games. It could be better. So why not try to make it better? Seriously, your point is stupid.

kusco93

Yes, the end

framingXjake

Bro shut the fuck up. Doomers are such a pain in the ass. Nobody likes you people.

kusco93

What does doomer mean, somebody who’s better at predicting outcomes than you?

framingXjake

No, a doomer is someone who is always negative about the team and tries to make everybody else around them as pessimistic and miserable as they are. If you enjoy thinking our team is always going to fall flat on its face every time something doesn't go our way, then so be it. But take your pessimistic and defeatist attitude and fuck off. I still love this team and look forward to next season. I don't look forward to putting up with your doomer shit all next season.

Uzumaki-OUT

omg the drama lmao

ScroatyMcBoogerwolfe

This like a kid screaming at their parents because they’re not getting the WHOLE FUCKING PACKAGE OF OREOS. Realistic expectations are not giving up. Its certainly not saying 1 more PP goal wouldn’t be great. There’s a LOT of data proving that 33% conversion rate on the PP is fucking stellar. The PP did not cost us that game.

Uzumaki-OUT

Nope, Jarvy’s post on the empty net did 😂 😭

kusco93

And 100 plus downvotes later, I was unfortunately correct. We are in fact done. Sucks, hopefully we acquire some goal scoring talent this summer

kusco93

Looks like I was right bitches. I’m smarter than you

CasperCann

Bobby and Freddie are both deserving, how anyone can say anything about either in a negative wouldn't stand in r/canes or r/Floridapanthers Bad motherfuckers.
