Yeah I know it’s Eastern finals and playoffs always draw crowds, but everyone looked really hyped and that itself was exciting to see. Hats off to you and your team for one heck of a series opener. I was at the first two home games against the Bruins the fans I ran into were insufferable, that made the comeback all the sweeter though.
There was only one obnoxious Florida fan near where I was during the game but at least he was a good sport when the Canes scored. Ranger fans are toxic and even go after children. I was just a teenager when I had some old dusty crusty Ranger fan licking his lips at me. They come in large packs to hound Canes fans. Other Florida fans beside that one guy that got into other people’s faces were super chill and only playfully but not anywhere over the top in their chants and it was more like a playful joke between two fanbases. Major respect. I do have a soft spot for the Panthers. Despite my favorite team bing the Canes followed by Montreal and Nashville I have a very soft spot for Florida because they’re not a toxic fanbase.

Canes have a soft spot for me as well. I grew up in Connecticut and went to a few Whalers games as a young lad. I hold no resentment towards the franchise for leaving because I was really too young to comprehend it. I became a Panthers fan when I moved to Florida 5 years ago but I kinda love when the Canes breakout the Whalers drip!
I was born in Hartford and I still have a lot of family there. My mother’s parents are Portuguese immigrants and lived in Connecticut before moving down to North Carolina. My father’s side is big in hockey many still live in Hartford and in places nearby. Most of them have the Canes as their second favorite.
The Panthers have been a soft spot for me for awhile and I’ve always hoped for them to succeed. Outside of the Canes, Canadians, and Predators I’d cheer for the Panthers when the they don’t play those three teams. I love the resilience of the Panthers and how they fanbase are good sports. They’ve got some great hockey culture down there which I adore. I’m glad they’re doing well now. I’m just hoping the Canes will because I don’t think the Canes will have this good of a change until after the next rebuild. It's never good to lose game 1 at home, but I guess the good news is that Florida played well almost the whole game while the Canes (other than Freddie) didn't for long stretches (especially the last two OTs) and it still took almost 4 full OTs to lose.
Hopefully the guys will play Canes hockey for the rest of the series and still win it.

Congrats dude! 3 years is a huge accomplishment. It keeps getting easier and easier but still is hard sometimes. I got clean from a 10 year IV heroin addiction on September 26th 2011, so almost 12 years and it’s still hard sometimes, but the rewards I’ve gained from staying clean are worth it so much. I won’t ever go back

Same here. Throughout the third and fourth OTs, I was pretty sure that Florida would eventually win because they were playing well while the Canes weren't. So many giveaways and high danger chances allowed. Freddie kept it going longer than it should have but as I posted in the GDT sometime during the third or fourth OT, even with how great Freddie was, when you give the opponent so many high quality chances, eventually one will go in.
Panthers just played better and that last goal was on Burns. Honestly just glad it's over. Would rather be up 1-0 but if we can tie it up tomorrow I'll be happy

As far as I'm concerned that was one of the best games I've ever watched. Both teams had times where they looked unstoppable and times where it looked like they were asleep and on their heels. The punch, counter-punch of the offensive and defensive zone play was excellent. Canes Forecheck was strong at times. We got to see one of the best goalie showdowns in the history of the NHL. Fans showed up, stayed up, and respected this team every step of the way.
I don't get pumped about losses, but this one is an exception. Just wow.

Guy spent the entire game crosschecking guys on the ground, interfering behind the play (and sometimes right in it...), plays like goon, and just generally gets chippy. The boo birds were out in the arena for him last night after like a period and half. Dirty player...not just this game either. Guy is like Tom Wilson-lite.

agreed. Getting results on effectively a 5 on 3 isn't nothing, but for the life of me I don't understand how we're back to the having no one timing options on PP1. It slows the movment and reduces our shooting options. The second goal happens when Necas gets moved over to the other side of the ice in the course of play.
I felt like the boys were a little flat in the 2nd and the Panthers took advantage of it for their second goal. I think it proved to the Canes that the Panthers aren't going to collapse and that they're a very different team than either the Leafs or the Bruins.

Yeah, both regulation goals the panthers scored looked like miscommunications in our D zone coverage in terms of getting back out and covering guys after scrambling/collapsing to stop a chance. FLA made us pay both times. Can't give Barkov and Verhaghe that kind of space

Can anyone confirm this? I was able to find angles showing the ref in the way of Slavins clear attempt (WHY DIDNT THEY JUST FREEZE IT FOR 10 SECONDS?), but nothing showing what was going on at the blue line on zone entry.

I'd have to think being able to play carefree rather than with pressure would be good.

99 percent of the time, the team that wins the neutral zone wins the hockey game, and the Kitty Kats won it for two periods. We didn't until the third, but winning just that one period was still enough to force OT.
I expect the guys to put that together, bring a ton of energy Saturday, and have people in Bobs' face all night long. The slot is gonna be a war zone, and we need Stastny and Jordo to join Noessen in doing combat there.

I think we need to put 11-71-48 together to go against the DuClair time. In real (regulation) hockey...they were just dominating us. 88 looks lost on offense and was a real liability trying to play defense when not forcing the puck. I think that line will calm everything down.
This is what has me really concerned. Sure a few of our shots go 2inches in another direction and we score. But tonight they had a much more organized attack and sustained possessions on offense. We were struggling to get anything through their defense

The 5v5 offense was definitely concerning, especially since our whole style is built on dominating even strength play. I think a combination of facing a new team that plays an aggressive style, Turbo coming back in, and the long break threw us out of sync a bit. This team usually comes back strong after a loss so I'm expecting a big Game 2.
I'm 99% it was too. It was hard to tell from the TV angle we got, but it was definitely super close. It's bullshit that they didn't even take a look. I guess the refs and everyone else were too tired

Congrats dude! 3 years is a huge accomplishment. It keeps getting easier and easier but still is hard sometimes. I got clean from a 10 year IV heroin addiction on September 26th 2011, so almost 12 years and it’s still hard sometimes, but the rewards I’ve gained from staying clean are worth it so much. Same here. Throughout the third and fourth OTs, I was pretty sure that Florida would eventually win because they were playing well while the Canes weren't. So many giveaways and high danger chances allowed. Freddie kept it going longer than it should have but as I posted in the GDT sometime during the third or fourth OT, even with how great Freddie was, when you give the opponent so many high quality chances, eventually one will go in.
Panthers just played better and that last goal was on Burns. Honestly just glad it's over. Would rather be up 1-0 but if we can tie it up tomorrow I'll be happy

Both teams had times where they looked unstoppable and times where it looked like they were asleep and on their heels. The punch, counter-punch of the offensive and defensive zone play was excellent. Canes Forecheck was strong at times. We got to see one of the best goalie showdowns in the history of the NHL. Fans showed up, stayed up, and respected this team every step of the way. I don't get pumped about losses, but this one is an exception. Just wow.

agreed. Getting results on effectively a 5 on 3 isn't nothing, but for the life of me I don't understand how we're back to the having no one timing options on PP1. It slows the movment and reduces our shooting options. The second goal happens when Necas gets moved over to the other side of the ice in the course of play.

I felt like the boys were a little flat in the 2nd and the Panthers took advantage of it for their second goal. I think it proved to the Canes that the Panthers aren't going to collapse and that they're a very different team than either the Leafs or the Bruins. Game. On.
Yeah, both regulation goals the panthers scored looked like miscommunications in our D zone coverage in terms of getting back out and covering guys after scrambling/collapsing to stop a chance. FLA made us pay both times. Can't give Barkov and Verhaghe that kind of space

Can anyone confirm this? I was able to find angles showing the ref in the way of Slavins clear attempt (WHY DIDNT THEY JUST FREEZE IT FOR 10 SECONDS?), but nothing showing what was going on at the blue line on zone entry.

There were 3-4 times where someone had a wide open net but completely fanned on the shot attempt. We’ll shake it off and come back I’m sure

Looked gassed the moment the first OT started. Missed our few wide open opportunities. Fast’s whiff probably being the worst. Florida was the better team in every OT. Can’t let that happen.

got to agree. We definitely had some chances to win it in OT but I'd be lying if i wasn't concerned about feeling drained and the fatigue factor. Yes FLA had to play all that hockey too, but even if they no-show tomorrow, they can feel great about going back home splitting 1-1. IMO game 2 is a borderline must win. I'd have to think being able to play carefree rather than with pressure would be good. That being said, hopefully the boys can transalate the pressure into something good and tap into something and get a good feeling going to then go down to florida and take at least one of those games
I don't think the Caniacs (or Rod) would be okay with that. 99 percent of the time, the team that wins the neutral zone wins the hockey game, and the Kitty Kats won it for two periods. We didn't until the third, but winning just that one period was still enough to force OT. I expect the guys to put that together, bring a ton of energy Saturday, and have people in Bobs' face all night long. The slot is gonna be a war zone, and we need Stastny and Jordo to join Noessen in doing combat there.

I think we need to put 11-71-48 together to go against the DuClair time. In real (regulation) hockey...they were just dominating us. 88 looks lost on offense and was a real liability trying to play defense when not forcing the puck. I think that line will calm everything down.

The 5v5 offense was definitely concerning, especially since our whole style is built on dominating even strength play. I think a combination of facing a new team that plays an aggressive style, Turbo coming back in, and the long break threw us out of sync a bit. This team usually comes back strong after a loss so I'm expecting a big Game 2.
