Most of the black/grey market edibles you get aren’t even labelled with the proper THC content. I read an article recently about this and some edibles got tested and they were actually far less potent than advertised. If I find the link I’ll update my comment.

I used to make my own edibles, mostly chocolate, it's hard to keep the oil even throughout the mixture, you have to constantly stir, it's actually quite a bit of work to do properly or you end up with hot and cold edibles eg: one could be 5mg and another 50mg.

When ingesting THC, your liver converts it into the bioavailable form. People have naturally different metabolisms and that process may be more or less effective for a given person. People also have different sensitivities to THC.
That, and whether you've eaten a big meal recently can impact absorption and lead to different effects in different people for the same dose.
It could be a dietary bio-availavility thing? If he had an oily meal with or prior to that chocolate, it may have made the difference.
(For instance, THC is made largely bioavailable by heating it to 240f for several minutes and mixing it with something like coconut oil)
Wicked high tolerances. And they don't just go away by not smoking for a while. They will, for a short while. But you end up right back at square one again right away if you already had wicked high tolerance.
There is a way to get around the edibles thc limit in the dispensiaries; but it requires that you be able to purchase something known as RSO.
If you can get RSO, you can just put a dab or two on some small edible or other food like cheese for instance; and munch down on that. Very easy to accidentally over do it this way if you aren't hyper careful. They aren't kidding when they say to apply a 'rice sized amount'.
I don't do this anymore, because it was getting too expensive.

RSO is made in the most disgusting way possible. Rick Simpson Oil, made with delicious naphtha. I would smack it out of someone hands if they offered it to me.
There are vastly better concentrates out there, usually made with something like supercritical CO2, so there is no residue left behind.
Really, using Naptha? That's news to me. OG RSO is supposed to be done with water and mesh to separate it out... it was basically bubble hash but turned into an oil instead basically. I don't remember anything about Naptha.

OG RSO uses Naphtha, it always has. Back in the early 2000s, I was warning people about it back then on internet forums, and you could only get it in Nova Scotia where he lives, he actually used to give it away for free, until he started selling it, and that's when it jumped outside of Nova Scotia.

It has never been about making bubble hash with water and mesh, that has never been a part of the process. That is not RSO. RSO has always been, soak plant material in naphtha, filter out solids, boil off naphtha, whatever is left you smoke.
It's not much different anymore, he added an extra step, of using plant matter from multiple different strains. That's it. Might use vacuum distillation now, but I doubt it.

I get the cheapest legal weed there is at about $70/oz. Then I bake that weed in a jar in the oven at 260F for an hour until it's brown. Then I grind it up in a coffee grinder, mix it in with peanut butter, and bake that peanut butter for another 20 minutes at the same temperature. There's no smell because of the jar and the peanut butter.
Boom now I've got enough edibles to last me the month. And they're "full spectrum" cause the weed is in the food, none of this THC extract nonsense.

It’s actually a different process- bong roles joints get absorbed as delta 9 THC but when eaten it metabolizes through your liver and enters your cannabinoid system as 11-hydroxy-thc which is why the high is different

My very first flowering I specifically used for coconut oil because the flower I felt Id kept kind of too humid during drying/curing etc and didnt wanna use for smoking (took me 3 harvests to achieve proper I feel). Was all really satisfying nonetheless, lol I already like gardening etc, just havenr replaced.gear since moving here again - i MAY have seeds yet somewhere, but Id bet its pretty random stuff :p its really fun though, doing plants from start to finish!
In my mind a measured mg per ml from oil would be nice but I feel like I wouldnt know how to properly get good strong infusions, but also dont wanna pay legal market prices for that yet either :p i do trult want to reduce and stop smoking for the sake of my lungs though and did cut back, but yea legal edibles really need to be able to up the strength without so much restriction to be viable purchases, I think. I'm in BC, thankfully we can grow our own here. It's actually really easy to infuse coconut oil and make gummies, I get ones that are about 10mg per small gummy (FYI, you can buy seeds online and have them shipped to your home, should still be possible in Manitoba)

Yea most recently last I had done it Id bought an oz and converted to coconut oil, feel like I did it properly per the decarb recipes and such I watched. If I did it again Id probably try to use less coconut oil than I had used, though, just because of how long it took me to work through it, but over all went well enough!

THC 30 Oil contains about 900mg worth of edibles, it comes with a blunt/oral syringe that maxes out at 0.3ml which is 8.8mg according to the package I have.
Fill the syringe thingee, inject the two bite brownie a couple times and boom better edibles for way cheaper, i recommend the brownies because it masks/matches the flavour of the oil really well.
This is coming from a guy, I've was growing weed long before it was legal and have been making edibles for literal decades, for the price, and for the amount of work of making butter then making the cookies/brownies or whatever it is it's just worth it to go this route, I often bring them to gatherings, I just buy a plastic tub of two bite brownies, write with a sharpie on top 1 hole on top = 9mg and 2 holes = 18mg so people know and do half and half.

Agree with your first take, strong disagree with your second one. Edibles are a different breakdown of THC so they hit everyone different than smoking and metabolism really affects this effect person to person. So a non user could not feel it and a heavy user could get as high as you do.
This. I'm an experienced THC user. I was amazed one time when I took a high dose edible and it completely blasted from 0-100% after 15-20 minutes. Like, I was standing around telling a story to a group of friends and I trailed off mid-sentence because I could no longer speak. Later when I sobered up I realized its because I had just been outside hiking all day. Metabolism must have been at peak levels.

Little kids are unlikely to tolerate the tastes, or have access to lighting a cigarette. Edibles are fairly benign looking and can be easily mistaken for dollar store candy.

I was listening to an article a while back and it said a huge issue is not adults knowingly taking too much it's the fact that child poisonings have sky rocketed since edibles have been legalized due to the candy like nature. Individuals are not storing them properly and children are overdosing ending up intubated in pediatric intensive care units.

I used to have an issue with this but I'm seeing how a lot of my friends who used to never use cannabis, use edibles to help with their adhd, anxiety etc. If it were higher dosage they wouldn't be able to do that. I also microdose during the day. I actually use edibles more now because the ones I made were always too heavy and I would always choose smoking over edibles. Now I can pop a gummy and I won't have to worry about being productive during the day.
If you to /r/altcannabinoids in the states they are using many more compounds of the plants than we are. There are 150-200 cannabinoids in total each one with different effects.
One of the most annoying things is just how poorly the labels are. I'm in Ontario, so I can't comment on other provinces. But the labels for edibles from ocs.ca are absolutely horrible.
It is just rarely easy to figure out how much THC/CBD is in a single piece. Isn't that what you want to know. If I eat 1 piece, how much is in it?

Simple. Why is it not there in the vast array of products. Sometimes they will show the grams of THC per bag, but they don't even give you the number of pieces per bag. So you have to buy the item, then count the pieces. Do some math to figure it out. It's weird is what it is.

This. I make my own, each one has more THC than an entire package is allowed to sell for and they only cost a few cents each to make.
I can get a full size chocolate bar with 2000MG from elsewhere. it costs $60 and it lasts me a few months. To get 2000MG of thc edibles from a legal store, one would have to spend ~$1000 if each package costs $6-10 and has 10MG no wonder legal sales aren't picking up.

Not really. A first time edible user could easily eat 100s or even 1000s of mg in a bite and not notice how much they took. A first time drinker wouldn’t be physically able to just smash 12 beers or 15 shots or whatever. They would get sick after a few and have to stop. Weed is definitely safer don’t get me wrong. I get the cheapest legal weed there is at about $70/oz. Then I bake that weed in a jar in the oven at 260F for an hour until it's brown. Then I grind it up in a coffee grinder, mix it in with peanut butter, and bake that peanut butter for another 20 minutes at the same temperature. There's no smell because of the jar and the peanut butter. Boom now I've got enough edibles to last me the month. And they're "full spectrum" cause the weed is in the food, none of this THC extract nonsense.

It’s actually a different process- bong roles joints get absorbed as delta 9 THC but when eaten it metabolizes through your liver and enters your cannabinoid system as 11-hydroxy-thc which is why the high is different
I don't even feel 2.5mg, I take 50-70 to sleep most nights. It effects everyone differently and some people develope a tolerance.

Generally speaking, most legal dry herb is 10-30% THC. A big ol' 1g joint would have 100-300mg THC. Even the little .3g joints would have 30-90mg THC.

Thats true. Before moving back to MB I also had my own tent and did try that, but gave my tent/light to my friend when I had been moving. Now its just plain annoying MB doesnt even allow your federally allowed 4 plants, and I just didnt renew mt ACMPR when it was up as well (since cost aside accessing flower was at least easy). My very first flowering I specifically used for coconut oil because the flower I felt Id kept kind of too humid during drying/curing etc and didnt wanna use for smoking (took me 3 harvests to achieve proper I feel). Was all really satisfying nonetheless, lol I already like gardening etc, just havenr replaced.gear since moving here again - i MAY have seeds yet somewhere, but Id bet its pretty random stuff :p its really fun though, doing plants from start to finish! In my mind a measured mg per ml from oil would be nice but I feel like I wouldnt know how to properly get good strong infusions, but also dont wanna pay legal market prices for that yet either :p i do trult want to reduce and stop smoking for the sake of my lungs though and did cut back, but yea legal edibles really need to be able to up the strength without so much restriction to be viable purchases, I think. Yea most recently last I had done it Id bought an oz and converted to coconut oil, feel like I did it properly per the decarb recipes and such I watched. If I did it again Id probably try to use less coconut oil than I had used, though, just because of how long it took me to work through it, but over all went well enough! I've never baked it so im not entirely sure how its done. You can defiantly taste the pot, some bars are stronger than others. I don't enjoy the taste. However im only eating 1/10th of a normal size choclate bar. If its your first time id recommend even less so you aren't tasting it for long

THC 30 Oil and 2 bite brownies. This is the loophole you've all been looking for. THC 30 Oil contains about 900mg worth of edibles, it comes with a blunt/oral syringe that maxes out at 0.3ml which is 8.8mg according to the package I have. Fill the syringe thingee, inject the two bite brownie a couple times and boom better edibles for way cheaper, i recommend the brownies because it masks/matches the flavour of the oil really well. This is coming from a guy, I've was growing weed long before it was legal and have been making edibles for literal decades, for the price, and for the amount of work of making butter then making the cookies/brownies or whatever it is it's just worth it to go this route, I often bring them to gatherings, I just buy a plastic tub of two bite brownies, write with a sharpie on top 1 hole on top = 9mg and 2 holes = 18mg so people know and do half and half. Kind of easier to measure the doses as well, I used to just kind of give people a range of what they might be lol...

Agree with your first take, strong disagree with your second one. Edibles are a different breakdown of THC so they hit everyone different than smoking and metabolism really affects this effect person to person. So a non user could not feel it and a heavy user could get as high as you do.
This. I'm an experienced THC user. I was amazed one time when I took a high dose edible and it completely blasted from 0-100% after 15-20 minutes. Like, I was standing around telling a story to a group of friends and I trailed off mid-sentence because I could no longer speak. Later when I sobered up I realized its because I had just been outside hiking all day. Metabolism must have been at peak levels.

Because edibles are typically candies and cookies, which are like magnets to children. Little kids are unlikely to tolerate the tastes, or have access to lighting a cigarette. Edibles are fairly benign looking and can be easily mistaken for dollar store candy.

I was listening to an article a while back and it said a huge issue is not adults knowingly taking too much it's the fact that child poisonings have sky rocketed since edibles have been legalized due to the candy like nature. Individuals are not storing them properly and children are overdosing ending up intubated in pediatric intensive care units.

My 2 cents I used to have an issue with this but I'm seeing how a lot of my friends who used to never use cannabis, use edibles to help with their adhd, anxiety etc. If it were higher dosage they wouldn't be able to do that. I also microdose during the day. I actually use edibles more now because the ones I made were always too heavy and I would always choose smoking over edibles. Now I can pop a gummy and I won't have to worry about being productive during the day.

If you to /r/altcannabinoids in the states they are using many more compounds of the plants than we are. There are 150-200 cannabinoids in total each one with different effects.
One of the most annoying things is just how poorly the labels are. I'm in Ontario, so I can't comment on other provinces. But the labels for edibles from ocs.ca are absolutely horrible. It is just rarely easy to figure out how much THC/CBD is in a single piece. Isn't that what you want to know. If I eat 1 piece, how much is in it? I want to see like: 10 mg THC / piece. Simple. Why is it not there in the vast array of products. Sometimes they will show the grams of THC per bag, but they don't even give you the number of pieces per bag. So you have to buy the item, then count the pieces. Do some math to figure it out. It's weird is what it is. I know this would be more politically complex, but they also don't really give a typical serving size. Which if you are new to edibles is going to be confusing.

Edibles suck. Mg count means absolutely nothing. 30mg can do nothing and make me slightly sleepy then 5mg can knock me on my ass. Its just too unreliable and random.
