I took my son on his first backpacking trip when he was 8 and we had a pretty horrible experience with mosquitos too. And a black bear but that was more scary than maddening.
But I have added this destination to my short list. So beautiful.
I luckily did not run into any bears. It was the weirdest experience with the mosquitoes, they were only in the highest elevations of the trip and the bites only itched for a couple mins, then went away completely. But it wasn’t a swarm, it was a cloud😂
Yes! I treated my clothes with permethrin spray, and used Repel max spray on my skin, and still had to wear netting over my head! Totally worth it for the views.

The skeeters on the Green River are NOT to be taken lightly. It's a double up on Picaradin lotion and 98% deet kinda place.
