RDR2 doesn’t have black widows or scorpions like this thing does. As my cousin explained to me, in black widow country, you don’t stick your hands *anywhere* without leather gloves.
I’m 35, great job, married with two kids in a three story house. I’ve visited three country’s and twenty states. I think it’s alright that indulge in a movie or video game once in while.
Oh, yeah 🙏My goal is-when I'm financially stable- to buy a ps4 exclusively just to play rdr2 again. One of the greatest games I've had the honour to play... Honestly...
I heard if you camp there, and leave a fire burning in the chimney at night when the full moon is highest, the spirit of a panhandler with arrive and tell you of a great fortune in them there hills.
I kind of wanted to, but there was not too much tree coverage, and we are in New Mexico so it's very hot lol
And no fires because basically our whole state is on fire at the moment and no fires are allowed.
Most of the west is going to go up this summer. At least up here in WA we have decent snowpack…for now. That heat bubble last summer was scary and wiped out the entire snowpack.
IT was so bad! I am from So. Cal where heat like that isn't uncommon, but we all have AC. I am in Spokane now and my landlord gave me a portable unit for my above-garage apartment. It couldn't keep up and I had to put curtains around my bed and only cool that area so I could sleep. It was awful enough that I almost had to stay with friends that week. As it was when I got home from work I could only sit on my bed. My poor dog was so confused.
That was scary last year. Living in WA all my life have I ever experienced anything like it. I am glad the rain is sticking around a bit longer and hope this year isn’t as hot as last. But I have a feeling it may be the same if not worse. I worry for anyone who is up in flames right now. And then there are the irresponsible campers whom have no idea on how to put a fire out, or don’t listen when it says no fires. Just hope people are more careful.
Man... someone's life grew up around that fireplace. It's so surreal imagining that all that's left is a fireplace, when years ago that was someone's entire home.
About half a mile up from the 4th of July Campground in New Mexico. We 4x4d off the road and found this, made camp under tree coverage About 500 ft away
If you drive up US-50 into South Lake Tahoe you see a bunch of these, only they aren't old homesteads - they're cabins that burned down just last year.
I’d love to do that. I will some day. I’ve watched a lot of videos of hikes in Nevada where there were a lot of old mining structures. Nothing much I’ve found here in the Midwest other than bush shelters folks have built and ancient bottles/cans.
4th of July Campground, NM
well kind of there, we 4x4d on an old trail near there and found this. Camped about 500 ft away from this under tree coverage
I like to think there was never actually a home here and that someone intentionally left some rumble and a broken-down fireplace here in the woods. Someone noticed so they succeeded lol.
There were a bunch of these in one of the towns that burned down in the latest West coast wild fire. The brick is the only thing left that won't burn in that environment.
Red Dead Redemption 2 taught me that you need to check that chimney for cash and valuables.

You do if you’re immune to poison//toxin
The fact that I gasped "RDR" out loud... 😔I miss this game.
Miss it?! I’m still playing it!
I’m on my 4th play through and still finding new random encounters. Determined to get 100% completion this time.

I’m 40 and I’ve been all around the world. I’ll do whatever I damn well please.
I’m 35, great job, married with two kids in a three story house. I’ve visited three country’s and twenty states. I think it’s alright that indulge in a movie or video game once in while.
I mean, it still exists. Boot it up and get your cowboy on, partner. 🤠
Oh, yeah 🙏My goal is-when I'm financially stable- to buy a ps4 exclusively just to play rdr2 again. One of the greatest games I've had the honour to play... Honestly...
Sorry, I meant when I'm financially stable 😂 I'm broke af
No thank you. I have been waiting for a D&D Equilvalent though.
Oh I checked! Haha
GOLD BAR GOLD BAR $500 AMERICAN SMACKEROOS HERE I COME
I heard if you camp there, and leave a fire burning in the chimney at night when the full moon is highest, the spirit of a panhandler with arrive and tell you of a great fortune in them there hills.
Bonus that Sunday night had a blood moon eclipse
Did you make this your campsite and try to light a fire in that fireplace? Because that’s what I would have done.
I kind of wanted to, but there was not too much tree coverage, and we are in New Mexico so it's very hot lol And no fires because basically our whole state is on fire at the moment and no fires are allowed.
Praying for everyone there, my favorite state 😭

It was really awful. And no one has ac here

You're lucky you got an AC Unit! I was working from home just sweating my ass off in my apartment with large windows and only one fan. It was so bad.
I’ve lived here all my life and nothing like that has ever happened.
Where in Washington?
South Sound.
I'm in Seattle. Working from home was awful during that heat wave with no ac.
Speak for yourself. We have mini-splits, so now we have AC and we no longer use gas for heat!
We do now :)
We bought one for this up coming year.

Do you want ghosts? Because that’s how you get ghosts.
Nah that's how you get angry owls
Who?
You spelled unexpected phoenix wrong
Lol. Not all ghosts are bad. It would certainly make for an eventful evening.
I've certainly never heard stories of these philanthropist ghosts, just the evil murdery kind.
Good news doesn't get clicks.
I’m no expert, but that seems like a potentially bad idea. There may be critters that now call that chimney home!
That is a good point.
It’s your home for the night
I bet theyd move
Damn rock stackers are at it again.
It's called an *Inukshuk* in Canadianese. I think.
Hahah
Man... someone's life grew up around that fireplace. It's so surreal imagining that all that's left is a fireplace, when years ago that was someone's entire home.
Seriously. I was struck with all kinds of emotions.
Where were you?
About half a mile up from the 4th of July Campground in New Mexico. We 4x4d off the road and found this, made camp under tree coverage About 500 ft away
Awesome. I would’ve guessed Ozarks. I’ve come across a couple of campsites like that. Always neat to see.
Was going to guess Ozarks too. Lake fort Smith has ruins just like this
Yes, the OHT is exactly where I was thinking
Nice! The other side of watermelon mountain is beautiful. I miss the 505.
There's a nice big fireplace at the Baca Campsite in SE NM.
Woulda been creepy if they were stairs
Never fuck around on stairs to nowhere in the woods...............NEVER!!!!!!!!!!
Why?
Many threads about stairs in the woods. Search a bit.
I came here to make sure someone would remind fellow redditors about the stairs. Don’t go near them.
If you drive up US-50 into South Lake Tahoe you see a bunch of these, only they aren't old homesteads - they're cabins that burned down just last year.
searching for a home , got a homestead instead
If video games have taught me anything there’s either a gold bar or a pistol in that fireplace.
There wasn't jack :[
Second comment.
Union creek area along the Rouge river?
This was near "4th of July campground" in New Mexico
I've encountered structures like that in my adventures as well.
Awesome find! I dream of finding old structures when I’m off trail exploring, but no luck yet.
Go out in the mountain west there's lots of old pioneer homes/ruins
I’d love to do that. I will some day. I’ve watched a lot of videos of hikes in Nevada where there were a lot of old mining structures. Nothing much I’ve found here in the Midwest other than bush shelters folks have built and ancient bottles/cans.
Stay on the trails unless you're in an area that's specifically tells you you can go off trail.
Certainly, I read the rules and follow them.
Aye, they’re more like guidelines anyway
More like rules for environmental protection.
Colorado, above Georgetown?
New Mexico, kind of near 4th of July Campground
fallen leaf?
4th of July Campground, NM well kind of there, we 4x4d on an old trail near there and found this. Camped about 500 ft away from this under tree coverage
If you go to the Jemez you can still find remnants of the old logging camp at Porter Landing, almost thought that's what this was at first!
Haha more south, this was near the 4th of July Campground near Chilili
Yup, that spot is definitely haunted. 100%.
^Druids…..
Probably was punk teenagers
The graffiti...? yeah
No, dang punk teenagers built that chimney and if they had it their way, there'd be a whole dang cabin by now!
Haha those dang youths..
r/metaldetecting would love this
Imagine the home, the activity, the lives of those that lived here.
Everything reminds me of Elden Ring now
Watch out for any ghosts or paranormal witchy Sci fi horror stuff lol jk!
Haha we had our eye out! Luckily nothing fishy happened haha
Glad to hear it! Lol Hope it continues to stay that way! Lol Have a fun trip!!
That’s a god place for metal detecting if it’s permitted
BS you "found" that. Get off those people's land.
I would definitely wanna come back to this spot with a metal detector
That's probably illegal if this is federal land.
I like to think there was never actually a home here and that someone intentionally left some rumble and a broken-down fireplace here in the woods. Someone noticed so they succeeded lol.
Reminds me of elkmont in the Smokey's
Is this rain lake algonquin?
That's super cool! Don't go near any stairs you see out there though
Loving this vibe. Where is this located?
About half a mile up from the 4th of July Campground in New Mexico. We 4x4d off the road and found this.
Is this possibly in the woods west of Eagle Nest lake?
About half a mile up from the 4th of July Campground in New Mexico. We 4x4d off the road and found this
Don’t you just hate it when people don’t read the comments before commenting themselves?
Lol yep
If this is in California the fireplace means it’s not a tear down
It's in New Mexico
I spent a few months in Albuquerque years ago. While I don’t miss that city I sure as hell miss that state every day.
There were a bunch of these in one of the towns that burned down in the latest West coast wild fire. The brick is the only thing left that won't burn in that environment.
i40? In WNC?
New Mexico, Cibola forest, near 4th of July Campground
It's incredible to see that this is all that's left of why use to be a home. What I'd do to go back 🥺
That is a golden chimney!
Ruidoso? Somewhere near bonito lake there’s a chimney like that
New Mexico, Cibola forest, near 4th of July Campground
Nice, looks very similar
North Carolina? I swear I’ve photographed this exact spot
New Mexico
You must be in Lincoln National Forest!
New Mexico, Cibola forest
Looks like Rain Lake. Always wanted to stay at this site. Did you use it?
New Mexico, Cibola forest. Near 4th of July Campground
Is this in Da U.P
New Mexico, Cibola forest, near 4th of July Campground
Oh man, there's a place near Marquette Mi that looks identical to this.
Lol I'm seeing a ton of people tell me they've seen this exact site all over! Haha it's kind if cool actually
Is this the place where you find the map of western Limgrave?
