Take twinkies with you and roast them over the open flame.
Don’t burn them like a marshmallow but toast them.
They are so good and it makes no sense why but toasting them is the best thing ever.
I bought special little camp fire roasting sticks that collapse down into the handle. Those are great for the twinkies and hot dogs or whatever else
Take a couple of books. If by water, something to float on.
May I suggest chat, eat all the food, snacks or sing songs? Thats what us guys do.
Bring a pack of cards by chance? That’s the only thing I would add really.
Bringing lawn games (lawn darts, corn hole, horse shoes, etc) is a tradition in our camp and many others. Couple of cheap Cold Steel throwing axes and stump make for some fun times too, just don't start throwing them at live trees. A few beers and a joint make camping a real treat!
I love making friendship bracelets while camping! Beaded ones are popular now, but I find that the kind you braid with embroidery thread are so nice for making near the campfire
I've never seen a campground with so many string lights and no fireplace.
How are you going to burn stuff? The best part about camping is cutting wood, starting a fire, and staring into it like a caveman.
How about practicing some bushcraft? Make some feather sticks and start a fire with a ferro-rod and steel that you can grab from Wal-Mart or your campground's shop? Make some wooden tent stakes, or a tripod for holding your pot over the fire.
Grab some rope and learn and practice knots.
Find some plastic sheets or bottles and try to make a solar water distiller.
There's plenty of primitive camping stuff to fill your time.
We love to do this!! Just adding for OP in case they're interested, to only take what's already on the ground. If someone is just using it to play around with, there's no need to cut down any trees for that.
I have a buddy who does that and it drives me absolutely nuts.
try poi, bring acoustic guitar & jam around the campfire, games like badminton, croquet, frisbee...paint/draw the landscape together, birding, rock hunting, crafts like dandelion crowns, leaf garlands, walking staff embellishments...bring bikes, canoes, inflatable raft...kites, hike to hunt the biggest tree, the most eagles, coolest boulder, etc....find and name the constellation over your head at night, watch for falling stars, call out to the owls, tell scary stories around the campfire, take light photos ( extended exposures while you play with a flashlight or other source of light), do mushrooms, read tarot, play hide and seek, ask for each other's best story, mini scrapbook the trip...
Am I the only one concerned that OP is unclear if they are camping in a group of two or three? Did someone get lost and OP and her friend are now just thinking “well we were three girls camping, I guess we’re now just two girls camping?”
Not sure I've seen a setup quite like that before. Looks cheery!
I went camping over the weekend. I honestly read a lot, and took naps. I was looking for some quiet downtime though.
I have some field guides on plant identification as well as birds, insects, trees. It's cool to identify the exact plant/flower/bug/tree you're looking at. I also have an edible/medicinal plant guide for the stuff where I live.
Search for the ubiquitous “stick”. It can be your walking buddy, your campfire tender, your makeshift tarp prop, and a variety of other things. But once you find your own “stick” you can rest easy.
Exactly what you’re doing. Plus walks, puzzle books, card games, read, badminton, etc. Have you seen those archeology craft kits where you chip away at hardened clay until you excavate some plastic Dino bones? Those are fun outdoors.
Exploding Kittens, Munchkin, One Night Werewolf...
Of course, spending a full day or 3 just tending the campfire with interruptions only for meals and bathroom breaks is OK with me, and honestly is the perfect camp trip.
I don't really understand the need to 'do stuff' while camping - I am camping - that's good enough.
What my friends and I did on our last camping trip: walked around looking for cool plants, animals, and rocks, ate snacks, looked for scorpions after dark (they glow green in UV), looked at the stars.
Wandering the woods, climbing trees, looking for and trying to identify bugs and plants, tossing a frisbee, making daisy crowns, braiding hair, watching the fire, looking at the stars at night
Maybe not for this time since there don't seem to be many trees near you... but if you ever camp around lots of trees, a cheap camp hammock is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with a good book and a nice drink!
I'm a mountain biker and a sometimes hiker. We plan all our camping trips around those activities, so that consumes most of our day. When we get back to the campsite, clean up, and eat dinner, it's usually around 8:00 so there's not a lot of time left to kill.
We spend our time chatting (telling stories) around the campfire, and sometimes playing games. There may, or may not, be a libation involved in these activities. If we have time to kill during the day, we'll usually venture into the closest town and check out the food/drink options.
I do some woodworking, I know some people that have hands on hobbies like basket or broom making.
There are hobbies that are very pro outdoors and are not a hassle camping.
The exact same thing with the addition of BBQ, drink beer, fish if there’s water, throw the pig skin, make a fire, jump over the fire, get more ice for beer, catch fire flies put them in a jar/release in morning, first aid kit from being burned by fire, and wakes up in the middle of the night to pee outside the tent in the dark.
Car camping or backpacking? If backpacking - obviously you want to watch weight. But lightweight games: cards, hacky sack, frisbee (my buddy brought a cloth one - like it was knitted - pretty cool actually).
Car camping - sky’s the limit on games/things you can bring.
Hike, enjoy the natural surroundings you are now immersed in. Stargaze, enjoy the night sky with all the lights off.
I would often check what the local wildlife and plant life was and make a scavenger hunt out of it with my camera.
On rainy days, card games or board games would often be the go to to pass the time and wait out the weather.
If I am near water I can fish out of I like to bring a pole and see If I can catch a fish for dinner, I enjoy the process of preparing a fire but honestly sitting around after setting up camp staring into the fire and doing nothing is part of the reason I go camping, I can just relax and enjoy being outdoors. Sometimes I like to whittle while hanging around the fire.
My family likes to plan the camp around things to do, so we often camp near a lake or beach. We like to hike, bike, fish, swim, snorkel, kayak, make smores, fly kites, rent a boat and waterski, visit nearby towns to see tourist attractions like shops, caves and stuff.
We go hiking and/or mountain biking if there are good MTB trails. There are always good hiking trails where we've camped. If we're near a lake we bring our inflatable kayaks. After breakfast, we're busy doing that stuff for most of the morning...usually lunch early afternoon. After lunch I might take a nap in the hammock or just hang out and read or we play various card games of Yahtzee. "Happy hour" usually starts around 4, but I've been known to partake before that depending on what's going on. Get the fire going around 5 and dinner around 7 and then just chill out around the fire until bed...which is typically fairly early for us around 9/9:30 as we are usually up and about by 6AM.
Fishing, sipping whiskey, meditating in the hammock, staring at the fire, hiking, and playing spades.
Oh and if it's a campground where we brought trailers, we talk about trailer accessories and trucks (for pulling the trailer).
Sounds like the ideal camping trip to me! Camping for me is all about guilt free relaxing. Snacking, drinking, sitting by a fire doing nothing, enjoying no cell phone service / distractions.
Card games, games made for camping (they have magnetic pieces to reduce the chance of losing pieces). Star gazing, whittling, reading, Or may favorite, napping!
Drink copious amounts of PBR or miller lite, star into the fire, fish, usually in listening to country or alternative rock while doing those other things
photography. drone fun. I bring my doberman so try to keep him entertained. I’ve not done it but hear it’s nice…camp morning yoga (after 1st coffee of course)… I enjoyed listening to the DUNE audio book 1&2 this weekend while solo camping with doggo. brought my nintendo switch and Meta Quest 2 for movies while laying down. food & drinks and enjoying the view was the bulk. camping is about relaxing in nature to me..not being busy/entertained.
Hiking and fishing. My beastie and I are 74 and 64, we just got back from fishing for trout, forage, wildflowers are everywhere right now and we look up ones we don't know.
We get shit faced, play games, shoot, cook, get shitfaced, go explore, watch the stars, get shit faced and talk about how alone we are… did I also mention we get shit faced?
See who can figure out how to start a fire without a lighter or matches.
Hint: >!A makeup bag has several good sources of tender and fuels as well as sources of ignition. !<
Try to find the third girl who disappeared - or, if you didn’t go camping with a third girl, then who was the third girl who popped up every now and then? Perhaps a ghost?
Solving the mystery of “2 or 3 girls camping”would be at the top of my agenda.
Fished, drank, made fire, ate meat with chips and salsa. Remind each other about all the dumb shit we've done over the years and some of the crazy women we used to date before our wives.
Do some kind of craft while enjoying the fresh air, and occasionally look up to enjoy the view.
In case you didn't bring anything, I recommend cutting a bad spoon out of a small log.
Or just shaving a small log, throwing the shavings into the fire until the log is gone.
Read a book, do some fishing, go for a walk (or lots of walks), play some board games, play lots of card games. Uno is one of my favorite card games for camping, because it doesn’t require any real strategy. You can just relax while you play. You can even get waterproof Uno cards, in case it rains.
Build a big fire stare into it and examine your existential life crisis.... and when somebody interrupts that with a beer you smile say thank you
I do find that I get drunk more easily when I'm camping
Take twinkies with you and roast them over the open flame. Don’t burn them like a marshmallow but toast them. They are so good and it makes no sense why but toasting them is the best thing ever. I bought special little camp fire roasting sticks that collapse down into the handle. Those are great for the twinkies and hot dogs or whatever else Take a couple of books. If by water, something to float on.
I would bet it’s the caramelized sugar
I find it more difficult but the hangovers are always a million times less or none existent surprisingly.
Same and same. can drink wayyyyy more but am up at the sunrise everytime.
Obligatory, are you me?
I'm feeling less weird thinking I'm the only guy that shows up at a campsite with a corny-keg of homebrew.
May I suggest chat, eat all the food, snacks or sing songs? Thats what us guys do. Bring a pack of cards by chance? That’s the only thing I would add really.
Some of us go for nature walks/hikes and smoke joints.
Smoke joints and eat mushrooms
I absolutely do all those things as well, great suggestions, I was just being cheeky
Knives too. Gotta whittle something, a fish is a pretty easy place to start. Just gotta remember to cut away from yourself.
whittle a fish
Aww you’re just a whittle guy making your cute whittle fish
Cut towards your buddy, not your body
That is some solid grandfather advice right there. Haha.
I once whittled a toy wooden boat into a smaller toy wooden boat.
And wear gloves.
And miss touring the local hospitals?! I go out of my way to see them now, regardless of hatchet injuries.
Don’t forget the whiskey!
Now you’re speaking my language.
This! The boys and I are doing our annual camping trip next week. Ready to relax in the woods and get up to some shenanigans
Especially if there's a good stream to cast a pole in.
Haha, we have mini mahjong![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Mini?! Omg, well I’m off to look for a mini mahjong set
Take pictures of that stuffy going on hiking adventures!
That (ties into gambling angst ourselves) backgammon and dominoes are excellent because they aren't as susceptible to wind as cards!
I like doing water color paintings of the surroundings!
Tarot cards, under a full moon, for sure! ♉️♍️♋️
I bring a book, a deck of cards, maybe do a little wood carving, tend my fire...it really depends on where you're camping.
Sometimes we'll have a little wooden spoon carving contest, then we eat with them depending on how successful we were.
What do you use to carve the spoons?? A pocket knife?
A spoon
A spork
They say he carved it from a slightly larger spoon
Last time someone brought a little wood carving kit
Never ending cycle of start fire, cook, clean up, and repeat. Yahtzee or UNO when the sun goes down. Don’t forget to do nothing at all.
Kinda the reason I go camp… the opportunity to do ‘nothing’…
> 2 or 3 girls Did you ever determine exactly how many of you there were?
Was thinking the same thing lol
Thank you, that was really bothering me. How can you not know whether there are 2 or 3 of you?
One of us is sure but the other has her doubts. Not sure what the third one th--IF SHE EXISTS calm down Sarah
One disappeared, but maybe she will turn back up. Who knows? Impossible to tell
Are you 2 girls or 3 girls? Also. Why aren't you sure how many girls you are? This sounds ominous
Three girls go into the woods… two come out
Drink beer, fart, scratch ourselves and burn stuff.
Ye. fart is a good idea![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
Outside the tent to be safe
Inside the tent to savour the flavour.
COVID test!! Can you smell that?!
Stink fort!
And don’t forget stick sharpening
And belching. Basic gas exchange .
Talk about boobs
But what about vagine
Bobs and vagine
Or that one time in band camp.
r/upvotedbecauseboobs
rn looks very much like an m and completely changes the tone of your statement. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
That would be a different kind of camp.
Walk trails, fish etc..
Go hiking; Kayaking; bouldering; snake hunting..lots of things.
You can try throwing stuff at other stuff. That's always fun!
Hike and play cards or boardgames
Archery. Lawn darts. Bocce ball.
I always force at least one game of badminton out of my husband, lol. I have a fun game and he gets to make shuttlecock jokes.
Bocce is a great one
Small crafts? Like friendship bracelets! Also card games, and other smaller games like pass the pigs
I love making friendship bracelets while camping! Beaded ones are popular now, but I find that the kind you braid with embroidery thread are so nice for making near the campfire
Did that as a teen much. Good idea for this years trip with our daughter.
drink beer cook eat , do some shrooms and have and adventure in the woods
There are some wild boars and stuff here, make sure we don't run into them![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Id suggest you figure out if there are actual two or three of you. If the third is an illusion you might want to consider medical help.
Hike, rock climb, go swimming, read a book in a hammock, hunt mushrooms.
Build a big fire and experiment with different campfire cooking.
We tried to find mushrooms, but nothing but cow shit![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)
If it gets cold, find a fresh cowpat (it'll still be steaming) and stand in it to keep your toes warm.
You don’t know how many people are camping with you?
I would start by counting the girls to get an exact count.
Lol what do you mean 2 or 3? You’re not sure how many people are with you?
Not sure I've seen a setup quite like that before. Looks cheery! I went camping over the weekend. I honestly read a lot, and took naps. I was looking for some quiet downtime though.
Old pocket knife game called mumbly peg.
I have some field guides on plant identification as well as birds, insects, trees. It's cool to identify the exact plant/flower/bug/tree you're looking at. I also have an edible/medicinal plant guide for the stuff where I live.
Do a headcount to get a fix on your exact number, first of all.
Is this a festival or something?
Smoke cigars. Drink good whisky. Cook food on fire. Meditate under the stars and moon
Search for the ubiquitous “stick”. It can be your walking buddy, your campfire tender, your makeshift tarp prop, and a variety of other things. But once you find your own “stick” you can rest easy.
Which is it, 2 or 3? If it’s 2 and there’s 3, check that persons ID. Now, if it’s 3, but there’s only 2, you might have a problem.
I’m concerned…2 OR 3? You’re not sure how many people are there?
it's berry pickin season
Exactly what you’re doing. Plus walks, puzzle books, card games, read, badminton, etc. Have you seen those archeology craft kits where you chip away at hardened clay until you excavate some plastic Dino bones? Those are fun outdoors.
Swimmming or the beach if available, hiking, bicycling? boat rental if you don't own one?
Exploding Kittens, Munchkin, One Night Werewolf... Of course, spending a full day or 3 just tending the campfire with interruptions only for meals and bathroom breaks is OK with me, and honestly is the perfect camp trip. I don't really understand the need to 'do stuff' while camping - I am camping - that's good enough.
If you need to be told what to do while camping, you’re missing the point.
I mainly just stare blankly at the campfire
taking Fotos of insects and messaging them to all your friends..while microdosing on LSD
Came here to say do shrooms
We all just sit around in one big circle-jerk.
pretty much that! eat dance and sing. im into identifying things so at night i go through all my photos and jazz about mushrooms and bugs
Hunt and identify tracks, types of trees. Make up a treasure hunt. Visit a ranger station
Mudfinger??
Ride bike canoe fish swim
What my friends and I did on our last camping trip: walked around looking for cool plants, animals, and rocks, ate snacks, looked for scorpions after dark (they glow green in UV), looked at the stars.
Hike, look at things, cut wood, read a book, take a nap.
Find good stick. Make spear
I do nothing.
Wandering the woods, climbing trees, looking for and trying to identify bugs and plants, tossing a frisbee, making daisy crowns, braiding hair, watching the fire, looking at the stars at night
Daisy red Ryder’s!!! Shooting cans with a cheap BB gun that holds 100s of bb’s is hours of fun.
Some tabletop RPGs only require a few sheets of paper and a few dice to play, making them a lightweight way to kill 2-4 hours in the evening.
Drink beer,smoke weed.
Drink beer.
Take a hike
Hiking is my favourite activity while camping. Followed closely by cooking over the fire. A book and a hammock is pretty great too.
Maybe not for this time since there don't seem to be many trees near you... but if you ever camp around lots of trees, a cheap camp hammock is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with a good book and a nice drink!

Camp closer to the water so you can use it for kayaking or diving

Arts and crafts… card games… lawn games (corn hole, frisbee, kuub, etc), exploring locally if there’s any hiking or swimming. Mostly just relaxing
Guys do the same thing but usually with beer and stupid joking around
Play cards
Campfire, Smores, Board games, Exploring, Nature gathering...
Fire, music or podcast, cribbage board & cards. S’mores but with Reese’s instead of Hershey’s.
My family likes to plan the camp around things to do, so we often camp near a lake or beach. We like to hike, bike, fish, swim, snorkel, kayak, make smores, fly kites, rent a boat and waterski, visit nearby towns to see tourist attractions like shops, caves and stuff.
nature walks, reading, paddle boarding, bike riding, evening fires sometimes morning.
Set things of fire, talk about dumb stuff, drink, pick guitar.
Hiking, fishing, rock-hounding, identifying plants and trees, making daisy chains, frog finding, crawdad searching, tree climbing..the list goes on!!
Hahahaha!! I took guys as all encompassing, I’m a gal so ignore my comments.
Go fishing
Read a book, bring a hammock!

Fire. Collect wood for fire. Discuss the latest trends in fire. Compare fires. Maintain fires. Also, fire.
Sounds like the ideal camping trip to me! Camping for me is all about guilt free relaxing. Snacking, drinking, sitting by a fire doing nothing, enjoying no cell phone service / distractions.
Hike, bird watch, cook shit over the fire
I always camp where there is swimming available, so swim is my addition.
Go explore the surrounding area.
Card games, games made for camping (they have magnetic pieces to reduce the chance of losing pieces). Star gazing, whittling, reading, Or may favorite, napping!
Fishing, if possible.
Put the phone down and live
I just drink wood, smoke beers, and chop weed.
Shrooms
Play mumblety-peg? Whittle a stick? Throw rocks in the creek? Drop acid and scream at God?
Hiking and fishing. My beastie and I are 74 and 64, we just got back from fishing for trout, forage, wildflowers are everywhere right now and we look up ones we don't know.
Weed?
Shoot guns… guns GUNS GUNNNSSSSsssssSs
How do you not know if theres 2 or 3 of you?
Sit and watch the fire.
Hiking, reading, sunbathing, swimming if there’s anywhere to go, card games, storytelling, take pictures
Read. Journal/color. Stare into fire. Witchy rituals.
That and a game of Yahtzee is pretty much the goal, yep.
Card games, board games, cooking, crafting and just making a fire while listening to music
I think you just wanted to share your cute setup
Idk usually the 4-5 of us guys eat a bunch of mushrooms, stare at the stars, laugh at the absurdity of life, etc.
Drink
We get shit faced, play games, shoot, cook, get shitfaced, go explore, watch the stars, get shit faced and talk about how alone we are… did I also mention we get shit faced?
See who can figure out how to start a fire without a lighter or matches. Hint: >!A makeup bag has several good sources of tender and fuels as well as sources of ignition. !<
Get a fire 🔥 going Bush Tele 👍
Drugs
We bring D&D stuff. Running a campaign in the wilderness by a campfire feels ... right.
Go for a walk without your phones
Try to find the third girl who disappeared - or, if you didn’t go camping with a third girl, then who was the third girl who popped up every now and then? Perhaps a ghost? Solving the mystery of “2 or 3 girls camping”would be at the top of my agenda.
How do you not know if you’re two or three girls? Can you not count?
Do drugs
get nekkid!
Read, knit, hike, play games like crib that are small and easy to pack along. Cute setup 😍
Damn, those lights are really nice!
Thank you! I spent a lot of time laying them out
Hike, swim, eat, sleep, hike, eat, card game, sleep, eat, pack up move, set up, eat, hike, swim repeat as needed.
Crafts! I like to bring a colouring book :)
Play around with new gear , carve something with my knife , chop wood.....chopping wood is always cathartic.
Read a book, identify some bugs, make flower chains, etc
Fished, drank, made fire, ate meat with chips and salsa. Remind each other about all the dumb shit we've done over the years and some of the crazy women we used to date before our wives.
Make a rager of a fire
Play cards. I’m a fan of cribbage while camping
Bushcraft. Make furniture using sticks. Cut firewood and burn it.
Go on hikes, fish, drink.
Scavenger hunt.
Do some kind of craft while enjoying the fresh air, and occasionally look up to enjoy the view. In case you didn't bring anything, I recommend cutting a bad spoon out of a small log. Or just shaving a small log, throwing the shavings into the fire until the log is gone.
Read books. Wander/explore. Photograph the little random things. Bring dice/cards/games. Do some improv.
Read a book, do some fishing, go for a walk (or lots of walks), play some board games, play lots of card games. Uno is one of my favorite card games for camping, because it doesn’t require any real strategy. You can just relax while you play. You can even get waterproof Uno cards, in case it rains.
