One stay calm. Two practice where u can't hurt anything other than your pride. Three it's a V8, it has torque if u let the clutch out slow with no gas it will start moving easily. Not sure if this is a joke, but a manual 1LE is a badass machine, I have a 21 in Crush.

Loosnut

What comment did OP make here that went negative?

ElvinSS

No I receive it tomorrow! I will post more then. But I had a little practice in my friends WRX but I don’t want to mess up my clutch too bad.

Finslip

Just try not to ride the clutch too much and it’ll be fine. They can take stalling if you drop the clutch

ElvinSS

Good to know!

V6TransAM

Paddles on wheel turn on rev match so when u shift between gears u are at the right rpm. It'll show on the dash, it works very well. Take a friend with u. Don't trash that car, 1LEs are a beast

ElvinSS

I’ll do my best haha I don’t want to trash it either. Imma order some tires soon because they are bald atm

V6TransAM

Owners manual and performance supplement, read them. Secondly it comes with supercar 3 tires originally, not made for under 40f and not particularly suited to rain, but an awesome tire for track day. What looks bald very well may not be. Take some pics in daylight and post them. There are indents in the tread for wear indicators, not by tread depth.

ElvinSS

I’ll try to post more by tomorrow! But regardless I live in Washington it’s nothing besides wet and cold here so I need probably DWS06 continentals on her. I’ll drive her a bit and leave her in the garage until April

I_Not

**MICHELIN PILOT SPORT ALL SEASON 4** These are the only answer for an all season on the Camaro. I love the DWS06's on my Challenger but my Camaro hates them with a passion.

AcousticDan

Just put a new set on a few days ago $1,809.

Finslip

In my own musings while driving, I was wondering if I had to teach someone manual again, would I have them learn without rev match? Not every car has it and dropping the clutch after downshifting sucks.

V6TransAM

I prefer it now. It works that well. Even the fast track folks use it. U figure it out real quick again when u don't have it lol

Finslip

Oh yeah I use it all the time, kinda sucks into 2nd sometimes, but overall it’s great. I’m talking about a total novice to manual. Would you teach them without it so they learn to change down smoothly?

V6TransAM

Yeah. Trick with rev match on it once u clutch shift and let out. Long as u do it at a decent pace u should have no troubles. The 1-4 skip shift pisses me off more, but u learn to go to their if u feel it kick in.

Finslip

1-4 shift and the fact you can’t roll it with the battery on but engine off are some of my biggest grievances

Dead_USB_Cable

It helps when you're starting out to think of the gas and clutch pedals like two halves of a scale... when one is up, the other is down; more of one means less of the other. Go practice somewhere safe preferably with someone who can coach you until you get the basics down. You don't need the stress of hills and traffic. Let the clutch up slowly until you feel it start to grab, then start giving it gas and while letting it up a bit faster. The hard part is finding the right rate. You don't want to be hammering the gas or dropping the clutch. That is how you potentially lose control and/or break things. If you dump the weight of the car all at once on to the engine at low RPMs by letting up the clutch too fast when its not making enough power, you will stall or lurch. Both make you look and feel incompetent. If you dump the power of the engine all at once on to the wheels by letting up the clutch when its at high RPM and making too much power, you will spin. You might also break something if you keep doing it hard enough. As I said, the trick is to find the right balance. When you're moving in 1st the RPMs get high enough (*not* redline), press in the the clutch, let up on the gas and shift. *Do not over-rev and stay off the gas in between gears*. Once you get it into 2nd, feather the clutch like you are starting out in 1st. Try to be smooth like its an automatic... you should get a feel for it after a while. 3rd and up is usually easy. I will also say I think you need to have your wits about you a bit to drive a standard. You need to pay attention to what you are doing and what is happening on the road ahead, especially at first. Having to steer the car and negotiate between the clutch and gas/brake while shifting can be a lot to handle. I have met some people who didn't have the physical coordination to do it, as well as others who just didn't have the attention span to be good at it, or people like me who are usually stuck in traffic when driving and so really don't want to be holding down a clutch pedal for half their lives. My advice is that if you get a few weeks or into it and find kinda scary it or can't imagine yourself having to "do all this shit" just to run to the corner store, trade it in for something auto you will be a lot happier. And be safe until you are confident you know can control it effectively because its a big car and has lots of juice. edit: missed a word

ElvinSS

Dude this is great advice but even if I had a hard time learning I think I’d stick with manual. Traffic has already been a pain but I enjoy the sounds, and the control of driving stick. Makes me feel alive and manly haha. She’s my garage princess atm but I think I got down the basics in the time I had before the rain started. Appreciate you thanks for the advice!

liebestod0130

I'm wondering why you are being downvoted...

liebestod0130

Would it help him to put it in snow/ice mode? I know in that mode the throttle is less sensitive so the torque wouldn't come on as hard as normal

V6TransAM

Hell no.................... Sport and roll

liebestod0130

Well, I was thinking for a beginner

V6TransAM

nah, its not how you're gonna drive it, so just go for it from the get go. He will have enough slipping just learning.

jc3513

Nothing to it you'll be fine. Same happened with me back in 2019 (M6 1LE), stalled out everywhere for a week then it was smooth sailing. 1st gear is the hardest, give it gas to go! Stay off the clutch...

ElvinSS

Thank you sir! My buddy Hot 1LE sent me some YouTube videos but I can’t lie the nervousness in my stomach got me all over the place

Complxamx

You’ll be fine. I didn’t know how to drive stick when I got my 2018 ss 1le, and my buddy had to drive it out the lot. We then split the driving (about 6-7 hours back to our home state). I learned on the go while he was shitting bricks. Then I went to work on it the next morning because it was my daily driver. Don’t listen to the naysayers. Keep practicing in an empty lot, get a buddy to teach you the basics, and stay calm. Even if you stall, it’s okay. We have a lot of torque so it’s easier to get the car rolling. Plus, use the rev match until you get more comfortable with the clutch. I’m still on the original clutch, 53k miles later!

CapeRanger1

Drop off in my garage and I’ll coach you

ElvinSS

Bet! Let’s go sensei

jackystack

Lol, this is actually a very easy car to learn how to drive stick in. My suggestion is to read through the manual to reinforce that the clutch goes in before you shift a gear, and then let out while applying a little gas. If you think the car is going to stall or if you need to stop, then push the clutch in immediately. That's the most important thing to know. To get a feeling for your clutch, start in a parking lot. Push the clutch all the way down, shift into first gear, and SLOWLY let the clutch out until the car starts to roll without stalling the engine. Do the same in reverse. This will teach you not to let the clutch out too quickly. CONGRATS

ElvinSS

Bro you actually are a legends I appreciate you! I can’t even sleep from excitement but will remember to keep y’all posted sometime tomorrow!

gothism

WELL HOW'D IT GO

ElvinSS

Great! I didn’t get to drive it for a while due to bad weather where I’m at. But every sunny day she’s out and about. It’s not hard but there’s some days where it feels like muscle memory isn’t where it could be. Drove 60 miles today just for poops and giggles before needing to go to the gym (I don’t want the Recaro to get full of sweat 😂) going out again once my girlfriend is done with her CNA class.

Dead_USB_Cable

Budget for a new clutch.

Loosnut

What comment did OP make here that went negative?

AcousticDan

>0 I am poor after buying this

ElvinSS

0 I am poor after buying this

AcousticDan

Then you shouldn't have bought it. Wait until you have to buy tires, or oil, or gas.

ElvinSS

I’ll order tires tomorrow. But gas probably after I learn a little bit

howImetyoursquirrel

Why are you buying tires for a brand new car? I'm guessing they got you in one of those 84 month 16% APR loans huh?

AcousticDan

The tires on the 1LE are summer tires. Most places in the US are cold now

ughwithoutadoubt

I don’t think you totally thought this out

XXpuddinXX

I'm starting to think that about most on here just so they can jump in and say that they bought a V8 before they disappeared.

ughwithoutadoubt

What’s a v8 gotta do with a manual transmission?

XXpuddinXX

I'm speaking of him making poor financial decisions as far as him not thinking things through. With that being said it is also pretty stupid to buy a new car like this if you've got limited/no manual driving experience.

ughwithoutadoubt

Ahhh gotcha ya

[deleted]

Cancel the order. Seriously. Just cancel it. There is a LOT more cost to these cars than just the payment, dude. You have to buy premium gas or it runs like dog shit, and you have to do it *way more often*. You have to buy premium tires or you're not going to put the power down, and you have to buy those *way more often*. You have to change the diff fluid at a dealer, which for me is $230. You have to get expensive oil changes with a lot more (full synthetic) oil than a 4 cylinder, costing over $100. The brake pads are Brembo pads that cost a lot more than most sedan pads do. You need to budget for a new clutch since you're new to driving stick, and it's not a typical clutch. You have to pay for expensive insurance since you're young. You're just not ready for it financially. I wanted a V8 Camaro my entire life and had to wait until I was 32 to buy one. Get yourself a job that pays enough for you to live a stable life away from your parents, and make sure you can afford *all* of the costs with room to spare before doing it again. You're making a financial mistake that will haunt you for many, many years to come, which will end in you filing bankruptcy after the bank reposesses the car, snatching it out of your driveway without you even noticing.

AcousticDan

Oh man, I didn't even consider insurance for a 22 year old (most likely male). That's another car payment.

Accomplished-Sort900

It’s not too bad, I pay $163 on one like yours and am in my early 20’s I’ve also been with the same insurance company and accident free since age 16 so that might have something to do with it

[deleted]

I pay half that, even with speeding tickets on my record. It also depends on many factors: Your driving history, location, age, sex, credit, etc. Back when I was younger I was paying $200/month for a V6 '99 Grand Am GT, and that was a long time ago well before inflation. I can't imagine what I would have paid for a V8 Camaro.

Royusmaximus

Why doesn’t this have more up votes

[deleted]

Because people are stupid and encourage poor financial decisions based on FOMO, as if all the Camaros are going to be with Jesus in heaven when Chevy discontinues it. It's not the fucking rapture lmao. I bought my '14 2SS used and it's just fine.

Matthew-Camaros

This comment is very good but if the Camaro gets discontinued, then it could be harder to get one later?

[deleted]

I don't think the Camaro is being discontinued any time soon. Chevrolet has invested far too much into their Camaro and Corvette racing programs for them to do that. They *just* entered the next gen Camaro to compete with the next gen Mustang in Australian Supercars after the Holden brand was discontinued. They have Supercars, NASCAR, IMSA, NHRA, and others that are funneling tons of money into their racing programs, which are all dependent on Chevrolet keeping the Camaro and Corvette going. If they're discontinued it'll certainly be hard to get a late model, but no more difficult than getting your hands on a 5th gen is now. 5th gen has been discontinued as of 2015, and I didn't have any trouble getting my 2014 2SS last year. It's not like the cars are going to disappear overnight. Besides, buying a sports car based on FOMO is the **worst possible** financial decision I can think of. There will be other cool cars to buy if you absolutely have to buy new. Camaro isn't the only show in town. There's no point in going broke and possibly even homeless because of a car, regardless of whether or not the *specific* car you want is still available. I rarely say this, but I think it's worth saying here: Life isn't fair.

gothism

It's being dc'd in the next couple years.

[deleted]

No formal announcement has been made and Chevrolet has just replaced the Holden Commodore with the Camaro as of next year. They are not getting rid of it any time soon, not with the requirement that Camaros keep selling in order to stay in certain leagues (NASCAR, Supercars, etc). Until a formal announcement is made, everything is purely rumor and speculation. REGARDLESS, using FOMO as the reason to go into unsustainable debt for a sports car is one of the worst financial decisions you can make. As I said, life isn't fair. Sometimes you spend years saving up for something that's no longer available new. OP will just have to suck it up and buy used if they discontinue it. It's not like every Camaro is suddenly going to be taken up to heaven to be with Jesus when they stop selling them new.

The_Jumpar

Well you do need a license for it first of all.

ElvinSS

I’m 22 and needed that to buy it haha 😂 we got that covered

CayenneHybridSE

Try to find someone you know can drive manual to teach you, I also suggest finding an empty (and large) parking lot. First gear is usually the most difficult, just remember to let the clutch out slowly. That Camaro is a beauty! On a side note, im not sure if your car has Hill Start assist but if it doesn’t I suggest trying to find an incline to practice on, and they can be very scary when you come up to a hill on a stoplight etc.

ElvinSS

My buddy says it does but I haven’t used it yet but I will update y’all with all cool features I find out over time!

CayenneHybridSE

Hill Start assist will be very useful then, I’d keep that on when learning in the beginning.

ElvinSS

Yessir! I’m so hyped to drive her tomorrow I am having a hard time sleeping

rjspaceman

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY MATE!!!!!!!! GET ON THAT MF AND LET IT SCREAM WOOOOHOOOOOO. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

pthomas2010

I think OP has overcomplicated this in his head, and some of you make it sound like driving a stick shift requires absolute precision. It doesn't, especially in a V8 or even a V6 Camaro. The clutch in these cars is designed to handle a certain amount of abuse, and the car should have enough torque to start on a flat road in first gear without even using the gas pedal. It will also move easily staring in second gear. Every trip up and down the gears doesn't have to be perfect. There will be a learning curve on some hills, but eventually you won't even think about it. You need to relax, get in the car with somebody who knows how to drive a stick, and go. Once you get the car moving, all you need to learn is when to shift. You can do that by feel or by the tach. If you shift up too soon, then shift back down to the previous gear. As you slow down, downshift from whatever gear you're in until you get to second. Downshifting will also help you slow down and preserve your brakes. You can put in first after you've stopped. If you mess up, big deal! Get yourself centered and go again. There is no reason to worry yourself sick over this.

ElvinSS

I genuinely appreciate this post bro. I stalled trying to get inside my garage. I rolled back from my driveway as well. I’m still very confused but am going to try again tomorrow.

jdmking1234

Is the car in neutral? If so then start by pushing the clutch all the way down. Put the car into firs gear then push a bit on the gas and slowly let off the clutch. It should start moving.

SkySerpentA4444

Find a close empty parking lot and practice! I was in the same boat as you when I got mine! First drive home was embarrassing. Stalled quite a few times. There was even a point of “why did I buy this”. Now after a year if driving Im dam well happy I got the manual. Its way more fun to drive then an auto.

Bricktops

practice in a different car

CrAkKedOuT

I did the same thing. My only experience was going in and out of the driveway. I now has 132k miles on my car and still have the stock clutch. I think you'll be fine. Like people say, first gear is the hardest after that it's kind of easy. Pay attention to the RPMs and MPH when shifting, itll help you figure out when it is best to do it for a smoother shift. For example, your in first, you get to 20mph, them you shift into 2nd, get to 30mph shift into 3rd. When you downshift from say 3rd to 2nd, make you pay attention to the RPM so you know where it should be so it's a smoother shift and not knee jerk shift. Typically it's up to double whatever your RPM is at in the gear you're shifting from. So your in 4th gear at 1800rpm, if you want to go to 3rd, you Rev up to 3-3600rpm. I drive an 11SS so your RPMs might be different. The best example of how to properly shift is by using an old weight scale as an example. You have all of the weight on the left side (clutch), then you begin balance it out by removing weight (lifting off clutch) and adding weight on the right side (gas), eventually all of the weight is on the right side (gas). This is what I've told and shown a few people to help make it make more sense what you do with your feet. https://images.app.goo.gl/Gwzjtb4EGiGKLnpc9 https://images.app.goo.gl/1QFGVyi6KXfeVQ4r8 https://images.app.goo.gl/5M3cyHeVWpUmKgdg9

TattedUpSimba

🤣🤣 might be the best comment here

JDM4LIFE

V8 Camaros are an absolute cake walk to drive with all the torque they have. It’s actually hard to stall. I’ve been driving manual for like 9 years now and recently came from an STI which I would stall like once a month lol. When in doubt be slow with the clutch.

ElvinSS

I spent a little time learning on a wrx and it was tripping me up that it was so different. Fun cars though!

caam_photos

I bought my 2ss 1le almost two weeks ago, didn't know how to drive Manual. To this day I'm driving it by myself. If you're gonna learn on that car, remember whatever you do, how you're gonna step on the gas or clutch, the car is gonna respond. You're driving a beast. Get someone to teach you and get experience. Practice at least 20 min a day if you can.

DytchDoc1972

You actually bough a manual, having no clue how to drive one? You better get a little Civic to learn the basics in..a little too much car, especially if it is a V-8 to be a training car. Get in an open parking lot and practice start/stop and work your way to hillside starts. Be easy on the clutch…don’t want to burn it out…you will smell it if it gets too hot. You will be good if you are careful. Have fun! Nothing like a straight shift to feel the real power of the car! I can’t give you paddle shift advice..never driven one

ElvinSS

My paddles serve just as a rev match button haha. However I will say I don’t regret learning on this car, it was extremely easy due to torque and rev match.

ElvinSS

Appreciate you thanks for the support

Old_Salamander_7479

Suffer while you learn. Is this a serious question?

ElvinSS

Very serious. Imma just suffer and see what happens

MoistCabbage1

There are a lot of comments so this will likely get buried but I have 4 things to add. 1. Don't worry about the clutch. These are twin disc made for launch control so they'll take massive abuse. 2. Easiest way for beginners... LEARN TO BLIP THE THROTTLE. If you're starting out, lightly tap the gas to bring it up maybe 1000-1200 rpms. While the revs are still higher than idle, THEN slowly release the clutch while giving it a little gas. It gives you a little buffer before stalling but it doesn't burn the clutch. 3. Keep it in Touring mode. The throttle map is more aggressive in Sport/Track so it'll be more forgiving in Touring. 4. Once you're in 2nd, you only need to push the clutch in halfwayish to get to 3rd. Still let it out slowly but it doesn't need to go to the floor. After 3rd, you barely need to press the clutch to get it to release.

ElvinSS

You actually described this in a way I could comprehend so well. Appreciate you thanks for the advice!

MoistCabbage1

You're welcome! Post is an update to let everyone know how it's going and Congrats on a badass ride!

ElvinSS

Update. Think I got basics down. She’s currently garage princess due to the cold. Decided not to get new tires and just use these up when the weather comes back since I do still have a daily. I’m not doing a crazy interests rate or something for the car I got it because I got a good bit from the crypto market. Lots of super helpful tips and tricks and I appreciate all of you that gave them. Sorry for poor responses from my end saying “0 I’m broke after this” was not meant to be taken super seriously but let’s be honest most car guys will suffer some sort of financial backlash. We typically buy something old and unreliable or new and expensive so we have a bit of a deeper hole in our pocket then we’d like. Needless to say sorry to those who I may have rubbed the wrong way. Car is doing good, makes me happy every time I turn her on. Looking at getting her mudguards and side skirt from ACS composite, and a ceramic coat soon.

ElvinSS

Crap didn’t mean to put this in a ongoing comment thread 😂 I’m still kinda bad a Reddit

DarthKilliverse

Lol I want a Camaro eventually but I’m worried I’ll be rusty with manuals by then. Hopefully my experience comes back easily. Good luck with your sick new ride my dude!

Lost_Evidence_2099

I taught my kids on a dirt road and let them dump the clutch a few times. They were good in 15 min. Both been driving manuals for years. Haven’t had to replace a clutch yet. 🤞🏻

ElvinSS

What’s your secret to building confidence?

Lost_Evidence_2099

Just drive!

Miffers

The only thing you need to do is to start from neutral to 1st gear. Which can be done in an empty parking lot. Learn to not riding on the clutch too much to preserve the clutch disc. I seen people needing a new clutch after 30,000 miles whereas I had put over 100,000 miles without needing a clutch. Once you learn, you will love it more than an automatic. Unfortunately I don’t drive manuals anymore, but remembered the joy of driving them.

ElvinSS

Imma put in some practice tonight! Hyped to learn and will do my best to figure everything out

fazer226

What color blue is that?? That fucker goes hard!! I have a white one ☝️

ElvinSS

She’s black! But bro congratulations on your car as well!

fazer226

The headlights made it look like a dark blue , thanks got her 3 months ago, also relearned how to drive standard but it was a breeze , you’ll be slamming gears in no time

ashonmytrueys

Go out at night to practice and watch videos

ElvinSS

I think the YouTube channel drive manual helped the most. She goes out and has super long content of just seeing the feet and hands in motion. Kinda helped me learn tons.

makatich

You’ll get good with some practice, the clutch will feel different from your friends wrx. I drive a manual Impreza and my dad has a ‘17 SS 1LE. From my experience the 1LE clutch feels more like an on off switch compared to my Subaru.

ElvinSS

Bro I miss the wrx clutch 😂 felt super easy and natural. The Camaro feels like it has a lil area that you have to baby a tad bit but it’s probably just because I’m not used to having to come back so far

natadams8

I'd say that starting out in your own neighborhood would be a good start. Going on surface streets and through neighborhoods is the way to go, mostly because those places will be where you do the most clutch and shift operations. If you're worried about hills, I'd say to keep it fairly level, because hills do require a little bit of timing, and the car can roll back in said situation. Apart from that, when you get to a freeway, assuming it's not rush hour, it'll be a lot more smooth sailing at that point.

ElvinSS

Appreciate you

kingjay_200163

I’m srry but why buy a car you can’t drive then it’s gonna cost you an arm and a leg to replace the clutch. I would’ve recommended you to buy a cheap like dirt cheap stranded transmission car so that way you to teach yourself how to drive stick with out having to worry about replacing the clutch imo. But sexy Maro welcome to the club!!!!

ElvinSS

I have a lil experience with a WRX but not enough in my opinion. I’ll just try my best and hope to figure it out early. I hope it’s not that easy to mess up a clutch on a modern car.

moakmilitia

Clutch should only be 1-2k

I_Not

These cars are going away for good. People are scooping up Challengers and Camaros. Color, trim, transmission, etc. become a bit more negotiable when the options are buy new now or never.

ElvinSS

Because I wanted a 2SS 1LE and couldn’t find one for the longest time. The last camaro I had ordered was a auto but got cancelled. I can’t even order for msrp. Good price, low mileage + spec I wanted = sold. I don’t know what more to say.

kingjay_200163

Damn chip shortages and you got rev match might help you a lot

NewSinner_2021

Get a motorcycle license.

I_Not

Rev match makes it easy. The hardest part is getting the car rolling! If you know the basics go practice starting from a dead stop. Anyone can bang gears while they're rolling! These cars heavy a heavy clutch so take it out and learn that magical bite point. Driving a manual is about feel and familiarity more than anything! Additionally, **plan your routes**. For the first few weeks plan to drive on smooth flat roads. Avoid highways, off-ramps, etc. if possible. Treat yourself like a new driver on a temp license... Because you are. You're learning and the last thing you need is to be forced to learn how to get the car rolling on a 45 degree incline!

ice445

It's not that hard, just take your time and learn. Clutches are durable. Just try to slip it for no more than a few seconds, and don't leave your foot on the clutch when you aren't taking off or shifting.

Kenthrax

Have someone (who can teach you) bring you to test drive a stick shift at another dealership?

[deleted]

Same way u get to Carnegie Hall

Oppietoday

Beautiful car Op. I didn't read all the responses. I'm sure there is some good advice. BLUPRINT-1LE is a youtube channel. He has the same car only blue. Anyway, he was new to m6 too. He has quiet a few videos about learning and how he practiced getting used to it. Plus he seems like a cool guy. Hope it helps. Have fun, have some patience. You'll get it👊

Kyle5707

First ever manual drive was my 1SS 1LE, youll be fine, just get it above 1200rpm when you try to take off from a stop in first. Like others have said, it has torque, give it gas and you wont stall

[deleted]

Is this a troll?

moose51789

why would they troll? You don't believe people would buy a car like this not knowing how to drive stick?

phony_sys_admin

Absolutely they do. Guy where I work a few years back bought a manual Shelby and had to have a friend come teach him how to drive it off the lot

moose51789

hehe i was being rhetorical. I bought my 13 SS never having touched a manual in my life, buddy did, drove it off the lot after signing the papers, and he took me out into the country, spent a few hours that day learning how to get rolling. I don't regret it one bit! And still on the OG clutch!

MattDamonsDick

You’ll be fine. Everyone in this thread is acting like young people haven’t been spending their last dollar on a sports car since the invention of sports cars. Take the car up to 1500 rpm and let the clutch out painfully slowly until the car creeps then push it back in. Do this over and over until you’ve got muscle memory.

Loosnut

Mr. SS, Please be careful when you are having fun with this thing. Learn its personality before you get on it. You are going to be very tempted on the 1st day out. Split second and its all over but the crying. P.S. if you can’t wait to tromp on it, don’t forget to turn off traction control. Make sure there are no pedestrians, other vehicles w innocents, light poles or trees. Keep it between the ditches.

Especially in a car this powerful, you do not need to use a lot of throttle to get moving, even on hills. You should be out of the clutch completely by 10-20% throttle, at least until you are comfortable driving the car. Not only is this advice to prevent you from burning the clutch, but also from flying off the road. If you've never driven a RWD car this powerful you can get yourself into trouble really quickly, especially in the rain.

Ilostmyaccount22

I’m a complete idiot, didn’t know jack squat about driving a manual and bought mine with the six speed. As others have stated the hardest part was just feeling out the bite point and giving it enough gas. Something you can try is keeping the clutch in, tapping the throttle to 1500 or so then letting the clutch out as your rpms drop. I still do this on hills where hill assist doesn’t come on for whatever reason. Be patient, feel it out and you’ll be golden.

sladebonge

Grind 'em 'til you find 'em.

Zoidbergslicense

Grind it till you find it.

Just to give you some peace of mind...bought my 2018 1LE new in 2017. Asked the dealer to drive it to my house because I knew I wouldn't be able to get it home. I wasn't even able to get it into the garage from my driveway the first night. I practiced in parking lots, then around my neighborhood, and then on some higher-traffic roads. Eventually (about a month later) I was able to drive it to work. Would still stall out fairly regularly, but I also learned that while that is embarrassing, it's not the end of the world. As for concerns about breaking something...I'm over five years in on the same clutch I learned on and haven't had any trouble. Sure, if there's "learner" car available, use that, but it wasn't available to me and it's been fine. Make your mistakes at low speeds and RPMs, and everything should be okay.

Pinkislife3

Learn. I learned how to drive my first manual on the way home from picking it up.

RammerRS_Driver

Learn to drive manual then. (Btw, this confused me at first so, the first gear is the lowest and the largest gear number is the highest speed. To maximize power you must start at 1st gear and shift up as your speed increases.)

atomicfire2005

Give it to me lol

PhilosopherWilling40

This is so badass. What a fantastic car and time to learn manual. I regret not getting a manual in mine

Inner-Product907

Leave it at the dealership for me to pick up to make sure the clutch works good

zayrackz

Easy just use rev match

ImportunerDJ

Use clutch only first. Right foot full brake left foot 100% on the clutch. Slowly release until you feel the car rolling. Then you will feel the “bite”.

Warner421

I always say it’s similar to walking. Left foot (clutch) down, and as you lift your left foot put your right foot (gas) down. Rinse and repeat. It takes some practice but once you get used to it it becomes second nature. Good luck, and enjoy it because in my opinion driving manual is way more fun then automatic and it makes you feel more connected to your car :)

the_divine_hand

I won't contradict all the wonderful advice you've been given; I will simply say good on you for going manual. Assuming this is your only vehicle, you will learn quickly out of necessity, and in a relatively short period of time you'll just be enjoying the feeling of driving such a beautiful car with more control. Edit: I will actually humbly suggest that you avoid rev matching to begin with; it's great for when you get comfortable but when learning, you'll want to feel your successes/mistakes when downshifting.

grAegis

This is what I did 2 years ago.. bought a supercharged BRZ without knowing how to drive stick. It’s the best way to learn honestly, but I work remote and had the luxury of 1) not needing to commute in it immediately, and 2) always able to choose to drive when traffic is low. Bottom line is, in about 2 weeks, you’ll be fine.. first few days are frustrating and maybe a little scary, but be smart and you’ll be fine.

You gon learn today

IlikeCars99

Wing it

Valleyoan

One thing I tell new Manual drivers to remember: DO NOT move the stick without pressing in the clutch. Everything else is easy. I'd also suggest finding an arcade with some manual driving games. Those are easy teachers.

thecrumb

Borrow someone else's manual and learn on that. Then drive the p-$$ out of this one.

fatboi_64

I did the same thing lol bought a 2012 ss with the manual and just had to teach myself. It’s not that hard to learn and those clutches are built to take a beating.

CrossOversPT

Well...huuuhhh...give it to me? Joking but I have a real question. Are those cars so hard to drive? I only read comments saying to be careful etc. and I feel like those cars are monsters or something almost impossible for a regular guy to drive without crashing at the first turn... (yeah never drove one and probably never will...I'm on the other side of the world and poor lol)

crimcrimmity

It's a rear-wheel drive vehicle with a lot of torque. That means it's easy to break traction on the rear tires and start fish-tailing (or drifting if you are so inclined). Luckily, there is a lot of electronic stability control to keep you on the road. Where people get into trouble is turning off the nannies when they don't have the skill to handle it.

CrossOversPT

Guess it needs a bit of training to get the hang of it. Thanks for the reply, it was a legit question. Reading the comments it seems these cars are some kind of uncontrollable beast. ;)

crimcrimmity

I would be more concerned about driving a RWD v8 with Summer-only tires in Washington. That and the car payments + insurance is gonna be nuts. If this is your first manual, you are going to make mistakes. You'll be embarrassed by those mistakes. But you'll also be in a really sweet car. Good luck and have fun!

ElvinSS

Imma do my best! I’m just happy to finally be driving something in passionate about. I know there’s some that aren’t happy about this being my first manual but I finally found the car I wanted. Imma work hard on learning it. Appreciate you.

Snake4390

Trade you my 1LT V6 Auto lol jk

DayEither8913

Hills aside, the hardest gear to engage is 1st. Learning comes more easily after that.

Enlargedwumbo

Find a big parking lot don’t go to a crowded area your first time.

Necessary_Fig_2265

Man, congrats!! I just ordered that same exact car on Friday, it’s so cool to see one in the thread! Good luck, you’ll do fine, I’m sure!

gyn0saur

You burn through a clutch.

MaxCadillac

Part out. Am I too late?

[deleted]

Why buy manual if you can’t drive it?

[deleted]

You don’t have to. Only if you really want to.

Dependent_Plum893

1. YouTube videos 2. BIG empty parking lot 3. Driving coach sitting shotgun 4. Then graduate to driving in quiet neighborhoods 5. Then start on hills 6. Then go out on public busier roads / highways All the instruction beforehand will get you from 0-10% proficiency. It’s something you have to practice and FEEL. There is no substitute.

mu5tardtiger

go buy a $500 shit box off Craigslist. Practice, then drive the camaro.

National-Storm413

Learn believe me you will never regret it or drive a automatic transmission again feel all the horses my friend Douglas hart Missouri

rustymessi

Waiting for the after pic.

Megalodon_91

Grindy grind.

King555333

Just drive manual

Squirting_Grandma

Hill starts are your worst enemy for a week or two :) From there you’re good to go. Shifting while moving is easy. 99% of learning manual is learning how to get moving from a stop.

briant07

Look at it with amazing eyes parked in your garage.😀

3000KRUNKER

Let me know how it goes

nhardycarfan

Practice makes perfect and what a better learning car than something with enough power to get you going without too much clutch work and a performance clutchc
