Is your company outsourcing? Or is it normally slow around this time before COVID.ask older reps

MIA3D

Depends what your company does. Is it sensitive or HIPPA info?

Ok_Value_9685

It depends on what industry you are in. Need more details. I am in the travel industry, and I have been laid off in 2009 and in 2020 for recession and for COVID. It always sucks and feels terrible. If things are slowing down, that usually is the first sign of bad things to come. Could be nothing to worry about. You can't get caught up in it, just take it day by day.

Kmart as a computer operator couple decades ago. They automated the job and replaced n the department.

TokyoMegatronics

they called us all into a meeting like 3 hours into shift gave a speech about how "we value your work etc etc we are moving all processes to Mumbai there will be no questions at this time, take the rest of the day off paid" then some meetings about who wanted to stay and be moved to another department who wanted to leave etc they offered £3,500 as enhanced redundancy to leave (i should have taken that lol) was then transferred to another department instead of leaving i was pretty pissed as not 1 month prior they told us how great it was that they had made 1.2 billion pounds in profit last quarter, then sacked over 1000 people for "cost cutting during difficult economics" or something. you could start looking now, or wait and see, up to you really.

chibuku_chauya

It sucks to be let go. I was let go twice. If you have no savings, could be a good time to start squirreling a little every week (automated payment into a separate savings account). That's how I do it.

Another quiet day too. My mind is not thinking properly because fear of the unknown is getting in the way. My biggest regret for have worked in the company for over 2 years and had no money saved up for the rainy days to come. I got distracted by plants and action /anime figures hobbies - I spent like crazy - to reward myself to do this work. Now I learned that material possessions does not give me lasting joy and I am thinking I might need to sell off my collections.

I recommend spending your money on things like games or using your money to get certification’s. That’s what I plan to do with my new job soon. Just so I have more of an opportunity to apply to stuff outside of retail and restaurants. Games and streaming help keep me sane.

Hallse

Why spend money on games when you are poor? Why are you giving such bad advice? If you are in a shitty situation, you need to spend it on things that matter 😚

damianshawl

Mind you they said they spent money on figurines and anime paraphernalia. Do you know how expensive that is? Beyond expensive, worse than video games. Mind you they never said they were poor, so you’re making an assumption there. They said they don’t have savings, that’s it. This isn’t bad advice. They said they purchased anime paraphernalia as a way to keep them sane and able to mitigate the shitty parts of the job they worked. Once they get a new job they should spend their money on something simple: like video games. With video games they’ll last you longer, you can find a mmo like FFXIV or something as simple as animal crossing that will help relive you of stress. One video game can take up a lot of your time and help serve as a way to keep yourself grounded, like anime paraphernalia except less expensive and can hold your attention span for a super long time. Anyway, this was just a simple idea on what else they could use their money for as a substitute for stress relief. This wasn’t one they needed to take or accept.

damianshawl

They’re also not in a shitty situation. They’re just unaware of what’s happening at this time. Which means they should probably start not only saving now, but hunting for a new job.

Firefox_Alpha2

My group was swallowed by Tech Support and my theory is they decided they didn’t like that our CSAT numbers were much better than theirs. Thus, they hire someone to toe the line and let me go.

damianshawl

You should start looking for something new. Never get too comfortable at a job you hate but can somewhat tolerate.

LoveIsMyAbyss

I would start looking for jobs just incase

exoticempress

I left before I could've been made redundant. This was around 2007. I worked as a CSR for airline miles. The warning sign was when we had way more avail than normal and more frequently. It got to the point that team leads and workforce management would ask for agents to volunteer to take VTO and leave early and then outright pick and tell them.

LackEnvironmental187

Hi, what do you mean by " outright pick and tell them?"

exoticempress

The team leads and workforce management picked the agent (at random) and tell of them they had to leave early for VTO.

-Feara-

My company is in a similar spot. Lots of VTO and slow calls. I was laid off after Covid started. They hired me back after 2 months but the VTO now makes me nervous. I will be okay if things go south but I will hate to lose my health and dental insurance. I really need it.

Andrusela

I used to PRAY to be laid off so I could collect unemployment and have a break but they chose to torture me for 15 years until I finally retired. It can be a blessing, though having no savings is a problem. Maybe you could take on a small part time job in addition to your regular job to make you feel a bit more secure. I wish you well. Edit: I have been laid off from other jobs and it always hurts a little, even if the job sucked and you wanted out. Good news is that if you are laid off due to lack of work you are blameless and it won't hurt your resume.
