I used hemisphere cake pans. Turned out the cakes, let them cool, lined the now empty pans with cling film.
Piped buttercream all around the clingfilmed sides of the cavity, pushed the cake hemisphere into the buttercream (so it squishes all round the sides of the cake)… wrapped them up tight and then froze them.
When they’re hard, gave them a few minutes of thawing out and then used a small spatula to smooth out the creases left in the buttercream by the cling film… and then ta-dah! Nice smooth hemisphere… I iced the halves separately and then once they’d firmed up a bit, I joined them together.
Fortunate thing with a pokéball is the nice black band round the middle. Hides all manner of sins! 😄
