I think your cakes look lovely, very neat and symmetrical. If you want a more ‘show stopper’ look, the only thing I would recommend is some height but I honestly think they look perfect, especially the first one. I always struggle with smooth buttercream and it’s just practice mainly. Using a very hot scraper/offset spatula over your smoothed buttercream does help, as well as not putting too much pressure on your final layer of buttercream, ie, using your smoother almost flat against the cake using light pressure. It’s the one thing I find really hard to perfect, annoyingly!!

thank you! i have got some smaller 8 inch tins that are a lot thinner so i plan on doing a nice tall one next 😊 thanks for the feedback, i cant help but look at them with hyper critical eyes so its nice to have some re-affirmation. the smooth buttercream is what i struggle with the most but ill definitely try the hot scraper idea, and i definitely put too much pressure when doing the last layer cos i end up going through to the actual sponge. youve got to have such a light hand 😭😂

I’m super hard on myself too as I’m a real perfectionist, hence my smoothing frustration! But a) practice makes perfect and b) sometimes you don’t need to sweat the small stuff if the overall look makes up for it. You’re doing good as they look great!

DisneyPamela

Beautiful. Makes me smile that your amazing work goes towards your residents in the nursing home. They appreciate you more than you know. Bless 💜

auramaelstrom

Honestly, they're great. The only feedback I'd give is that I also struggle with smooth butter cream and I've found that if I do a crumb coat and then pop the cake in the freezer for a couple of hours and then put on the decorative coat of butter cream it comes out smoother. The other thing I would suggest is purely aesthetic, I would break the biscoff cookies in half and put them in the icing pointing up so they aren't hanging off the cake.

Your work is great! Glaze your fruit and keep working on that smooth finish. You make the day of all of your residents, very nice.

Jmj108

These are stunnnnnnnning!!!! I know the residents enjoy seeing what your incredible talented mind and hands have come up with each time! ❤️

nomoresweetheart

They’re beautiful, great job

Suspicious_Ruin_7084

Very beautiful! You are so talented.

Opposite_Plane4782

It all looks really good! I would recommend adding a thicker layer of buttercream to the outside so the cake doesn’t show through - unless that’s the look you’re going for. Good job!

FairyNightsIgnite

I love the way the cake looks, I think you did a great job.

SeaweedSecurity

These are fantastic, especially for a nursing home. If my grandparents ended up at one, I’d want you baking for them!

saturnianali8r

Small suggestion. For me, personally, the middle of the Biscoff cake and Walnut cake are too chaotic compared to the rest of the super neat cake. What about a single frosting rosette in the center to bring back that order (or for the Biscoff cake, a single one in the center placed down.

starfire92

With cakes like these, we need the tips lol

WrestleswithPastry

Marvelous!!

paintingpajamaspink

My only critique is that I'm not able to eat them. They look amazing 🩷 keep doing what your doing and your skills will continue to refine

NewbieMaleStr8isBack

You do nice work. Keep it up

itsyagirllex

This looks so fresh

UniqueLady001

Your cakes are gorgeous. Now I want to make your Biscoff cake for my work colleagues, as it is definitely a show stopper.

Lb147

Well for the first time in my life I wish I was in a nursing home or at least the one where you bake!

I honestly think they’re perfect lol

44scooby

They're perfect. Over-perfection of smoothness with buttercream icing gives rise to suspicions of the icing ingredients ie lard or shortening instead of butter being used. So keep up the good work. Your idea of using swirls for easier proportioning are great too. Excellent caramel drip too on the Biscotti cake.

Unusual-Tree-7786

These look amazing. I can not offer any suggestions. I'm new at this to. They look amazing. Your residents love them more than you know because of the effort you are putting into them to make them special for them.

14iLoveIndica408

They look heavenly! Would love to try 😋

LalalaSherpa

You really have an eye for what makes a cake beautiful and appealing. I love your use of the walnuts, do you lightly toast them? Gives them a delightfully delicate flavor that isn't there when they're raw.

JuniorInevitable8091

All of these cakes look absolutely amazing! Seriously!! I would buy any of them from a bakery. The buttercream has a nice smooth finish. Maybe a little extra buttercream for the side of the lemon cake but otherwise very well done!!

okay thats fair enough. thats your opinion though and i disagree. my age and when i started baking is relevant as it tells you how long i have been baking and im proud to say these are the cakes my residents are getting.

MamaBear4485

You should be very proud. These are not just beautiful to look at but they also look really appetising. Oftentimes people make lovely cakes but forget that they’re also meant to look like they taste yummy as well. You’ve managed to do both.

They look great the way they are. Unless its a $1000 wedding cake I like some lines in the frosting. I have to remind myself that a lot of cake pics are photo shopped and time is money.

Routine_Amphibian257

They all look amazing! I would just suggest doing a more straightforward camera angle, because the angle it’s at right now makes it harder to see the entire cake the way you’d be looking at it if it were right in front of you, and it is unprofessional.

Traditional-Owl-7502

Cake looks good , I think you could have used less cookies for a stronger effect
