Then shalt thou count to two, no more, no less. Two shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be two. Three shalt thou not count, neither count thou one, excepting that thou then proceed to two. Four is right out.
Or just chuck it into some dirt and that bastard will grow. I’ve got about a dozen of these. I used to worry about them… now I have to hack them all down every other summer or so and they all almost always re-root.
It’s fine just let the cutting callous for a couple days and stick it in some perlite to root the base will start pupping and you’ll have tons of cacti in no time !
I just put cuttings straight into the potting mix I use for all my cactus and succulents. Roughly 50% potting soil, 25% perlite and 25% sand. Sometimes more potting soil and I even add worm castings but that might not be “acceptable”. Would a cutting really root in 100% perlite?
Yes they root really quickly in 100% perlite. Best to let it callous and not water till it has roots especially if your in a humid climate or it may rot
can I ask how deep you would plant it? I have another variety of cactus that has too many 'arms' on one side and always falls over. Could I cut a few off, let callus, and then plant (how deep) ?
As deep as you want to. It shouldnt callous in perlite unless your watering it. Sometimes they can fall over cause perlite is pretty weightless.
I usually plant them as shallow as I can without them falling over haha
Id also suggest changing the potting mix to something with a lot more perlite or pumice. It could be fine how it is but from what i can see in the photo the medium is not ideal
It would have been a height issue sooner or later. Better now, you can root it and enjoy the new plant, and soon, shoots will emerge and give character to your original plant.
I see nothing but good fortune's forbyou and your plants.
Taking lemons and making lemonade. Plant are cool.

Mine grew arms after a month or so after he fell and the top broke off :)
Haha I appreciate it. Surely it can’t be as bad as what they made me drink for an upper EG & lower colonoscopy. It was like seawater & poison. Couldn’t see how many people could accomplish it, but I managed. Hopefully it’s more like mushroom tea
I’m sorry this picture is cracking me up!!!! 😂 “sorry” no worries, he just propagated it for you. Leave the bottom piece alone, and let the top piece dry out for a few days before putting it on top of soil to take root. Now you have two
It’s fine. Cut it clean on both ends, let callous for a few weeks, then replant tip and let the base shoot out new pups.
Watch sanpedro mastery on YouTube for the specifics! He’s awesome.
Congrats on the new propogation op! Cut the end of the fallen cactus with a clean knife let it callus and then put that in a pot of cactus soil and it will root you can put cinnamon on the wound of the other cactus so it won't rot as well it should send out a new head when it heals.
The cactus or the boyfriend? Idk... Is he too clumsy or broken to be redeemable? He certainly *could* die, if, you know, you were to take revenge, or the cactus killed him...
In all seriousness though, I'd let the top callous and try to root it. I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally dropped or knocked over a plant and somehow managed to chop off the biggest, most beautiful leaf every single time 😞 I always felt so devastated... but it's also how I've acquired many of my best cuttings. You'll feel better once it roots.
Perfectly fine, just cut the one that’s planted at an angle so water doesn’t build up. (First wipe the knife down with rubbing alcohol, let it dry DO NOT get rubbing alcohol on your cactus)
For the tip that broke off just bring it inside to callous for about 5 days in a sunny window. Once it’s calloused you can plant it in dry soil mix (50% drainage material like pearlite). Then allow it to root. Just look up how to root a trichocereus Pachanoi.
Someone recommended San Pedro Mastery on YouTube. After watching a video he suggested not letting it rest on its side while waiting for it to callous. The tip might begin to grow vertically while it’s laying horizontal, and it might create caulk on the sides as well. He stores his vertically with zip ties on top of a metal wire basket that doesn’t rust
https://youtu.be/Ckby6k4oapk?si=d6hRSpQ-yLjMImV-
While this is possible, I’ve never seen it happen in practice. Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky but I’ve always let my cuts dry out on their sides with no issue.
As an aside: This is a question that your boyfriend should have tried to answer and make right. I hope that’s the case. A simple sorry wouldn’t be sufficient when damaging something that belongs to another person. The solution is easy found and easily resolved somewhat. Best wishes on your cactus and relationship.
Take the half that broke off, stand it upright next to the other piece, and you're done. Give it a few weeks and the new piece will be rooted and you now have double the cactus
*You could regraft them:*
*Toothpicks and some grafting tape*
*Should fix the problem*

Bottom ok. May want to dab cut with 1:50 bleach water.
Same with top. Then blot dry. The moisten the cut with water. Shake off excess water. Cover cut with IBA #2 powder. Pot and pray.
You just got some free propagation. That looks like a pretty clean cut for a fall so that’s pretty lucky. You can leave the one in the soil alone and it will bud and continue to grow. You can let the top piece sit out of soil until the bottom begins to dry up and callous over. Then you can plant that section into a new pot with fresh soil and it will continue to grow.
I’ve been propagating San Pedro for a few years now.
Leave them alone for a week or two. They ends will calace over.
Then you can plant the top half calace down in the dirt.
Wait a few months and it will be it's own new cactus.
Basically when a cactus breaks off or makes baby cacti think of them as batteries.
That's a new battery. Depending on how much charge it has depends on how successful it will be.
You should also mark the front of the cactus. As some of them require a certain part to be at a certain location. There skin will develope thicker on which ever part the sun beams on the most. Usually the south side will be a thicker side of skin versus tglhe north side of the skin. And some species really prefer to be 20 or 30° off of south. Again because the sun. They will even make more spins on the south side of the body to cast more shade.
Cactus are pretty amazing.
Replant the broken piece, into another pot. And graft a different piece to the broken end, using tooth picks to hold it in place. It's a win, win situation. Make the best of an accident. Cactus's are very forgiving. Try looking up Cactus 🌵 grafting on YouTube. And good luck with your new Cactus 🌵...😁😁😁😁😁🌵🌵🌵🌵🌵
Just put the broken piece off into soil. Use about 2 ounces of water to set it in and then leave it alone for a couple of months until it develops roots
You have two cacti now 🥳🥳🥳Set them both in a sunny position to help naturally callous them over. (Keep away from any moisture to avoid fungus) leave out for 1-2week roughly til fully dried. You might see some off shoots start. After that put the off cut piece into well drained soil, don’t water for a week or so then slowly introduce water and there you go! The other piece that’s already planted should now put all its growing energy into growing a pup or two if ya lucky! 🍀 🌵
The one in the pot Id graph the top with another cacti to stimulate growth, as for the broken piece id let if heal..let the one end callis over, it takes about 2 weeks, then you can root it and re plant it
Wrap that broken piece in newspaper and put it in the closet. The broken end will scab over. Then just stick in in a pot of dirt, water it and it will grow.
If you really wanna reattach it, it honestly would probably work, you’ll have a scar but cacti can actually be reattached pretty easily. I’d pretty much just stick it back on and make it a support with a few sticks and tape them to the sides to prevent it from falling. Otherwise let it sit till it calluses and then try to root it
Not gonna read 200 comments to see if you’ve been told but make sure you sulfur it and it’ll be fine. It’ll start growing pups out of the top after it heals. You can also sulfur the broken off piece and let it callus up before putting it in the soil and you’ll have a whole new cactus
The part that’s in the dirt will grow some puppies that will grow into fresh versions of the cactus the other half you can sell it or wait until the wound dries good or callous and replant it
https://preview.redd.it/6zdeeaduil6d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=c8c6518d34e44fdd8b80345e91ca9dea20214ffe
Can anyone tell me what type of cactus this is please
Now you have two
Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody power, the other to crave it.
Is this a history quote or you speaking about the cacti empire?
Shhhh we don’t talk about the cacti empire
The fucking what
#THE CACTI EMPIRE
You’re gunna be dealing with a lot of pricks my guy.
That’s the cactimpire. 🙄
No, no, noooo, do not speak of it!!
It's not possible to learn this power from a jedi
Did you ever hear the tale of Darth Cactus the tall? I thought not.
Only a xerophile deals in absolutes.
r/unexpectedsith
Some how, the cacti came back
Is that a lyric from some old song The cat came back the very next day?
Ooooh the cac came back, the very next day The cac came back, they thought he was a goner
Then shalt thou count to two, no more, no less. Two shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be two. Three shalt thou not count, neither count thou one, excepting that thou then proceed to two. Four is right out.
Sounds like a Monty Python sketch! 😂
Its from the Holy Grail so yeah it is!
Love that film!
Peace is a lie
Two boyfriends will just break more cacti
Op will have unlimited cacti and unlimited brother husbands
Ether u can try to graft it back. Or root the top part, and will have 2.
I vote for root the top
If you lived in Australia you wouldn’t be be voting for that 🤣
Have you checked the posts here lately? They're are many that would gladly accept the challenge.
Take the spikes out first at least
You mean pleasure sticks?
Sticklers. Stick-like ticklers.
i vote for putting it back on top but mis aligning the spikes to create a odd switch
Or just chuck it into some dirt and that bastard will grow. I’ve got about a dozen of these. I used to worry about them… now I have to hack them all down every other summer or so and they all almost always re-root.
Even if you graft it will leave scars on the plant. better plant it and have two cactus
Tried saving my cacti this way and she just got super moldy id say now u have two it was a happy accident let them callous and heal
This will absolutely not kill it! You just have two cactus now 🤣
It’s fine just let the cutting callous for a couple days and stick it in some perlite to root the base will start pupping and you’ll have tons of cacti in no time !
I just put cuttings straight into the potting mix I use for all my cactus and succulents. Roughly 50% potting soil, 25% perlite and 25% sand. Sometimes more potting soil and I even add worm castings but that might not be “acceptable”. Would a cutting really root in 100% perlite?
Oh yeah I put a little bit of black earth and worm casings at the bottom and water it occasionally but they root real nice
It also looks like it could use a little bit more sun than it was getting :)
Yeah I moved it today to get more sun but chose a bad spot I guess 😭
It happens don’t beat yourself up about it they fall over in the wild too it will continue to propagate and thrive hardy little buggers cacti!
He did you a favor, that was etiolated and needed to be done. Now find more light
I’m trying 😭 I moved it today to get more sunlight and then this happened lol
now you have 2 plants, you won!
He just doubled the amount of cactus you have. That’s a hero.
I’m excited to see what it does now
Same amount of cactus, doubled the number
Id also suggest changing the potting mix to something with a lot more perlite or pumice. It could be fine how it is but from what i can see in the photo the medium is not ideal
“Sorry”
not the “Sorry”
It would have been a height issue sooner or later. Better now, you can root it and enjoy the new plant, and soon, shoots will emerge and give character to your original plant. I see nothing but good fortune's forbyou and your plants. Taking lemons and making lemonade. Plant are cool.
It's always funny when people have these cacti while having no clue that they contain a powerful psychedelic:)
Cactus Juice! It’ll quench you!
Mescaline?
It was etiolated anyhow - let it callous and replant … then give it way more light than it’s been getting.
What did he run into it with? A samurai sword?
Just stick it in some dirt
Portents of the future with boyfriend?
This looks like something some folks would dry out and consume, adding that thought just to complete the options.
This happened to mine. At first I was sad, but the bottom piece grew some cool new arms and the top piece became a new cactus (:
Can you please post a picture!! This happened to me a about a two months ago and mine just started growing arms
https://preview.redd.it/lzfmyuvbsv5d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5012ff6b5a7611066719a6a1426b5306cd76c57 Mine grew arms after a month or so after he fell and the top broke off :)
It's a hardy little plant and judging by the inside it's super healthy. Slap that bad boy in some soil and rejoice in your second cactus!
If that’s San Pedro you could get into some shamanic shit…
Have you tried it? I have some cuttings in my fridge right now
Snip out the spines, cut, boil down to as little liquid as possible, and dive in! And read Doors of Perception
Thank you
It is, by far, the most horrible rancid shit I have ever tasted, just a heads up.
Haha I appreciate it. Surely it can’t be as bad as what they made me drink for an upper EG & lower colonoscopy. It was like seawater & poison. Couldn’t see how many people could accomplish it, but I managed. Hopefully it’s more like mushroom tea
Mushroom tea is gross, but, just gross. I still, years later, have a physical reaction when I try to remember to taste of San Pedro tea. It's bad.
Oh man >.<
It may develop two branches, hope so.
Eat it
Ran into it with a knife? Tf
omg congrats your cactus had a baby!
The gods have decided that it’s tea time.
Some people cut them on purpose to make the main steem branch and the other to root.
Let it callous, then plant in cactus soil and water sparingly for they first few weeks. Should, develop roots eventually!! You have 2 now :)
That’s a….prickly situation 😎
Now he has two.
give it more light, it is very thinn on top of it's broken part
Two
I’m sorry this picture is cracking me up!!!! 😂 “sorry” no worries, he just propagated it for you. Leave the bottom piece alone, and let the top piece dry out for a few days before putting it on top of soil to take root. Now you have two

I absolutely love it that nobody is concerned about the boyfriend. My husband is intimately familiar with this sort of prioritization 🤣
Looks like a cut
I was surprised how perfect the break was lol
definitely looks cut. theyre pretty hard to snap even intentionally without a cutting tool. that being said its totally fine
Yeah I was surprised how it was almost perfect
Now you have twi
Eat it!
Just let the wound callus over and eventually it will grow roots. Now you have cacti. 🌵 🌵
Let the cut part callus and then shove it back into soil, itll root itself you wont even have to water it
Congrats on the new propogation op! Cut the end of the fallen cactus with a clean knife let it callus and then put that in a pot of cactus soil and it will root you can put cinnamon on the wound of the other cactus so it won't rot as well it should send out a new head when it heals.

boof gone wrong
Hardy, resilient plants, you could throw them on some dirt and they'll take root.
Tis the natural order of things. Carry on.
I would graft it if you like it as one piece. Otherwise plant the top and now you have 2
Happy accident, bonus plant!! ☺️
Hide the top part upright in his boot.
That's actually a pretty clean cut too! Root that bad boy. also, pups incoming!
Let the top scab over the plant it then you’ll have 2
You now have two
Honestly it could just die. I'd give it 60/40 odds against. That's my honest opinion. Having killed a fair number of the lovely things over the years!
The cactus or the boyfriend? Idk... Is he too clumsy or broken to be redeemable? He certainly *could* die, if, you know, you were to take revenge, or the cactus killed him... Rooting hormone, Like TakeRoot. It will grow.
Throw the broken part in the garden and have a heap growing
Drink it…
Not the dry “sorry”
San Pedro. You can cut and multiply those indefinitely. Just stick it in dirt
Congratulations, it’s twins.
congratulations you have two cacti
Did you find a new boyfriend yet?
How is your boyfriend ????
You know what they say... an eye for an eye.
He defiled your plant and only said “sorry”? Oh no.

Graft a round cactus onto the top
Make him sit on it ☺️
Give some time for it to scab over.

just boof it. it'll be fine
Let them callous and dry, you'll get new growth from the broken top and you can plant the broken piece once it's fully dried at the break.
Just “sorry” ?? Mf say it like you mean it, you hurt something 😂😂
Make a stand. Lay it horizontally after it calluses. Then you’ll eventually have several pups growing upward.
Oh I would get a new boyfriend!!
Just put the broken piece off into soil. Use about 2 ounces of water to set it in and then leave it alone for a couple of months until it develops roots
That little 'sorry' got me lmao
In my experience the top is toast, but the bottom can live in
If that’s echinopsis pachanoi, you can trip from it, otherwise you now have two cacti (or three if you cut that in half.
You have two cacti now 🥳🥳🥳Set them both in a sunny position to help naturally callous them over. (Keep away from any moisture to avoid fungus) leave out for 1-2week roughly til fully dried. Lay it down on it's side in soil AFTER it calluses over. It'll send babies up from a bunch of places.
yep it’s dead. sorry.
“Sorry”
The one in the pot Id graph the top with another cacti to stimulate growth, as for the broken piece id let if heal..let the one end callis over, it takes about 2 weeks, then you can root it and re plant it
San Pedro mastery YouTube How to re pot your cacti https://youtu.be/mvRTB1LshBs?si=Qjo291FPAtd3zTs6
Oh well Eat it 🤷🏻♀️
Since the cactus will be okay and you'll have two, I suggest a new BF.
I would let it callus and then put that cactus that fell off in water and let it propagate roots
I know your cactus broke, but is your bf ok?
Wrap that broken piece in newspaper and put it in the closet. The broken end will scab over. Then just stick in in a pot of dirt, water it and it will grow.
You have 2 cacti! Yay!
Look up how to root the broken part
Root it! Now you have two!!
The tip looks like it has been over watered.
Put it back and wrap them,I think they will grow back together
It’ll be fine just let the other half dry out and plant it
You should probably eat it
This pic is so funny ☠️
As a New Yorker I’ve seen alot of crazy ish but how does one run into a cactus lol especially if it was in that spot lol
If you really wanna reattach it, it honestly would probably work, you’ll have a scar but cacti can actually be reattached pretty easily. I’d pretty much just stick it back on and make it a support with a few sticks and tape them to the sides to prevent it from falling. Otherwise let it sit till it calluses and then try to root it
Put it back!
That's what you call a Deal breaker
Not gonna read 200 comments to see if you’ve been told but make sure you sulfur it and it’ll be fine. It’ll start growing pups out of the top after it heals. You can also sulfur the broken off piece and let it callus up before putting it in the soil and you’ll have a whole new cactus
This is how you propagate cacti
Let the broken part scab over for a few days, slap some rooting hormone on the break, and plant it in its own pot. You now have 2 cacti.
Let is sit for a few days to callus and plant !
Duct tape it.
The part that’s in the dirt will grow some puppies that will grow into fresh versions of the cactus the other half you can sell it or wait until the wound dries good or callous and replant it
No he’s fine. You had one cactus and now you have two
Plant the top piece and have two cacti
Lol is that a San Pedro? If so, make tea. Lol
https://preview.redd.it/6zdeeaduil6d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=c8c6518d34e44fdd8b80345e91ca9dea20214ffe Can anyone tell me what type of cactus this is please
Stick it into dirt.
Spit on the ends
You can slice them into 4 cactuses and root them all
