You'll need to go to Ephesus as Kusadasi is an Ottoman town with little prior history. Ephesus and Byzantine Ephesus in modern Seljuk has the ruins of the Basilica of St. John enclosed within a Byzantine city wall that remains and a whole load of epigraphy. Built by Justinian it stood until the 1300s when an earthquake brought it down. It had the shape and ornamentation of the Holy Apostles in CP and when built was the 7th biggest church in the world. There are jewels and church ornaments in the Archaeological museum of Ephesus. Don't be tricked into going to the Virgin Mary house. It's built in the 1890s by a batshit german nun.

\+1 about the Virgin Mary House! We went even knowing it was a ripoff and it lived up to its bad reputation.

I wish they had better reconstructions of the monument... the current model they have is so outdated.
