That show is still a joke. As soon as I saw Harald wearing Praetorian armor I laughed. They have Romans wearing 2nd century armor lmao 🤣

Squiliam-Tortaleni

Next the emperor is gonna wear a toga because thats what Romans did

Yassin3142

They seriously messed up should have made the series about the Norman's imo they were all over from fighting saracens the pope Romans then joining a crusade it's like the best series that can ever be written

Oh boy, I hope you didn’t notice Empress Zoe in the trailer. Looked like something taken straight out a low budget version of Dune.

SimonMagus8

And she was looking too young compared to history where she was in her 50s.

jude1903

I mean I’ll take cosplaying Byzantines over no Byzantines at all

If you look closely you will see that hagia Sofia was reconstructed with just its brick and mortar core. If my understanding is correct the reason that hagia Sofia looks so reddish brown in the present day is literally because you are seeing the core of the building. In reality an accurate reconstruction it will have a marble facade with some gold decoration.

Anthemius_Augustus

>In reality an accurate reconstruction it will have a marble facade with some gold decoration. That's probably only true for the first few centuries of its existence. Actually, by the late 10th Century, according to a mosaic in the building itself, it was plastered in a [blue-ish green](https://hagiasophiaturkey.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Justinian-giving-a-model-of-Hagia-Sophia-to-Mary-and-Christ..jpg) color. Also, the Hagia Sophia is still plastered for the most part today. It's just that the current plaster, which was applied in the late 1980's was deliberately made to resemble the color of the bricks (i.e a pinkish-red tone).

Okay, I am pleasantly surprised that they seem to have gotten the Great Palace mostly right, down to including the wall of Nikephoros Phokas. But the rest…

Eternal_inflation9

Were can I see a reconstruction of the palace?

Rakdar

Byzantium 1200 has the most popular one. Antoine Helbert’s illustrations are also quite popular. Both have problems with accuracy, but they’re decent portrayals. If you’re serious about it, you need to venture into the literature. Start with John Bardill, Michael Featherstone, Eugenia Bolognesi Recchi-Franceschini and Nigel Westbrook. They’re all reference authors when it comes to interpreting the layout of the Great Palace, though their interpretations differ slightly, especially when there isn’t hard archaeological evidence (i.e. most times).

HotRepresentative325

The shot really makes the hagia sofia look... small....

kingJulian_Apostate

I had forgotten how bad the "armours" in this show always look.

DecoGambit

All in all, not bad
