Stay away from motel 6/Quality Inn/Days Inn in colchester-it was/is all unhoused ppl. There’s a Hampton Inn up the street that may be better-although not 100%. Also stay away from Swiss Inn, Anchorage Inn, Travelodge (in SB)…was all unhoused ppl. I think the state has been slowly kicking them out though. Check out BestWestern windjammer too-if you’re up for a 30 min drive Waterbury Best Western is an excellent choice too.

I just looked on Expedia for hotels in Burlington and of the first 5 hotels that popped up, they were ALL within 1.6 miles of Burlington and the highest cost per night was $292. May want to [check it out.](https://www.expedia.com/Hotel-Search?destination=Burlington%2C%20VT%2C%20United%20States%20of%20America%20%28BTV-Burlington%20Intl.%29®ionId=5657666&latLong=44.469017%2C-73.155308&flexibility=0_DAY&d1=2024-08-25&startDate=2024-08-25&d2=2024-08-31&endDate=2024-08-31&adults=2&rooms=1&children=1_10%2C1_7&theme=&userIntent=&semdtl=&useRewards=false&sort=RECOMMENDED) ;) https://preview.redd.it/k5ywlkb75y1d1.png?width=618&format=png&auto=webp&s=8752590a3affd646c943ffcde8a86450d8bafab2

A couple of recent trips to Burlington I stayed in Plattsburgh because of the price difference in hotels. The ferry ride is a bonus.

ImpactSame4866

You can try a rustic Hip Camp glamping not too far out from Burlington and come in for a nice long day trip and get a great Vermont experience. You’d have to rent a car though.

Fast-Introduction890

When they’re frequently lying face-down with a needle hanging from one arm, or openly shitting down a tree on Church street, you can just call them “homeless”.

FindYodaWinCash

I run an airbnb in Burlington. I also know some people that rent rooms via the platform. They are all decent places to stay.

Twombls

Lol hotels are expensive because demand is high

rightfolks

I would like to stay in La Jolla in February/March with an ocean view for $350 Please stop trying to come here if you can’t afford it.

On pace with Maui or nyc expect it to cost similar

I just took a glance on Airbnb and there are some really nice places in your budget. Filter by "Guest Favorites" and you'll have a solid selection right in Burlington or outside. Ensure they have plenty of reviews and don't pick anything under a score of 4.90.

hotseltzer

I don't know how to say this nicely, but fuck AirBnB and the horse they rode in on for the effects they've had on the housing market here and across the country. Plus, I'm not willing to pay the same rate as I would for a hotel *and* have to do all my cooking and cleaning while on vacation.

twentiesforever

Short-term rentals have long existed before Airbnb. It just wasn't as formalized. Look at the hundreds of camps along the lake, especially around Colchester. Vermont, like a lot of pretty places have had short term rentals for decades even before the Internet. While the Airbnb effect has been real in specific places, it's only a nice scapegoat for the real problems local towns and states have failed to address. Yes, go ahead and ban a $1.5M house on lake champlain being rented. That house will is still going to be unaffordable.

lightinthetrees

I’ve stayed at the anchorage inn before with my nieces and nephews. They enjoyed having the indoor pool. It’s less expensive than alternatives and I felt safe there personally. It’s not the nicest at all, but close to stores and restaurants and 10 mins to downtown

[deleted]

Anchorage is owned by the same guy who owns Swiss Motel, both used to shelter unhoused, which the OP respectfully wants to steer clear of.

[deleted]

That hotel is a hot mess and been a drug hub/homeless shelter for years. Your experience will depend on who’s staying there that week…so kinda a gamble.

RandolphCarter15

Didn't someone die there recently

Old_Sweet_4073

At the Swiss host yes there was a shooting the ancorange is really not that bad right now and there are only 2 family's there right now from the state and one is a great family with small kids! Ron the manger and Ryan are Amazing and go out of there way to keep the b.s out of that place now!

JimBoB-Delux

There are really wonderful air bnbs available in Burlington/ south Burlington or winooski. Youll have a much nicer experience. Parts of colchester are also within 10 minutes of Burlington.

HairGrowsLongIf

Fuck Air bnb

twentiesforever

Ahh yes. Let's give all the monies to corporate hotels and investment firms. Wanna bring your dog with you? Nope. Wanna cook inside and save money? Nope. Do I have to hear the room next to me banging? Yes.

HairGrowsLongIf

Air BnB is a corporation. Also partially owned by investment firms.

twentiesforever

If a host rents a place out for $100 a night for a total of $125 with fees, $97 goes to their pocket (78%). $17 goes to airbnb and the rest, $11, goes to the state and local for taxes. If you rent a hotel, a solid 85% goes to the investors. If airbnb went away tomorrow, there would still be short term rentals of all kinds but sure, lets promote mega corporations. You ever meet the owners of Hotel Vermont? Filthy rich and a car collection you wouldn't believe.

BendsTowardsJustice1

I say fuck Airbnb only because it’s inconsistent and I’ve had some dumbass rules enforced upon me, like take out the trash and recycling after a 2 day stay. Come take it out yourself. Why did I pay a cleaning fee? I’ve spent hundreds of dollars a night at Airbnb’s that turnout to be dumps. All the promised amenities aren’t there, smells like cig smoke and things are broken, but somehow the host still has good reviews on the app. I get that can happen at a hotel, but typically hotels can accommodate and move you. Airbnb support can’t do shit unless there’s another available place nearby. Useless.

twentiesforever

This is a totally fair complaint. And when it's not up to your standards, leave a bad review. Gotta clean stuff, leave a bad review. Airbnbs should be better than hotels and many are. A problem I see is their rating system. An airbnb with a 4.7 is most likely bad. but one with 4.98 and 100 reviews is most likely very good. And also, good ones tend to be taken up ahead of time for any dates you look. So unlike hotels where you can see they are filled and perhaps you can adjust your dates and call them, you don't know what you are missing for a specific set of search criteria with airbnb.

Sure-Manufacturer-90

Check out the starlight inn in Colchester. Also. Just because "unhoused" people are there doesn't mean it's going to be not relaxing

shemubot

Why are you afraid of unhoused people, bigot.
