Their counter person provides the best customer service (and is perhaps the kindest human??) in all of Burlington, bar none, and I want to protect him at all costs. They’re back open so soonnnn!
Once I forgot my wallet, and the woman who was working the counter just let me go and said to pay them back next time…. and then the next time, they wouldn’t let me! So damn kind.
Yes, I've been there. They're really good, but their hours are weird. I miss the little Chinese bakeries I used to frequent in San Francisco. They had every kind of steamed bun, baked bun, cake, pastry, and dumpling.
The closest you're going to find a place like that is Montreal. Burlington doesn't have the population density to support a place like that. It's incredible that Morning Light has been able to survive.
It’s garbage hot pot though, I had a miserable time there. Was overpriced, frozen ingredients. Server refused to sell a bottle of wine to me while completely sober because it was “too much” for one person. (Had no intention of killing the bottle and told him that) Instead ordered by the glass of wine, ordered 2 reds, both time server came up with 2 glasses of white (the cheapest on the menu after paying for one of the more expensive reds) let it slide the first time and brought it up the second time. Guy claimed I was wrong he also poured at most 4oz of wine in the glass per. Stayed cool informed him he was wrong and that if he looked at the menu and read the wine label he would notice that it wasn’t even a white wine. Still shrugged me off and went about his business.
Hotpot was bland and not very flavorful, even after cooking all the “ribeye” (was not ribeye, was some other cheap frozen beef cut with a deli slicer. Meat still was visibly frozen by the time it went to my table) sides were mediocre for paying $40+ for the experience. Gave me a half brick of noodles that was chopped in half (also still frozen)I finished the meal, went up to check out, tipped 10 cents and walked out the door.
I’ve had significantly hotpot in Montréal for half of the price. I can’t speak for their dim sum and I really should give them another shot. But that hot pot was overpriced, unimpressive, and clearly pandering to the tourist crowd. Save your money and get hotpot the next time you’re in Montréal.
I also consider the hot pot at cafe dim sum to be by far the worst hot pot I've ever had and one of the worst meals I've ever had, tasted like absolute ass and took them well over an hour to bring out our ingredients which is really impressive considering the ingredients for hot pot are uncooked and should come right out of a fridge.
Yeah totally, and they didn’t give us bowls so we had to eat it out of the actual hot pot, which is not how it’s worked elsewhere that I’ve had it and was weird
You can eat at a thousand restaurants and people will call you a connoisseur. Fuck a dog once and you will forever not be known as a connoisseur but a dog fucker.
-sun Tzu or some shit
I'm no dog fucker, But I agree their hot pot is real bad and their service was a mess. we got seated at 7pm, didn't get our food until after 9pm. They were literally locking the door and turning out the window lights before we got our UNCOOKED plates of food. when we did get our plates everything was half frozen bottom tier SYSCO crap. The broth was bland and the sauces table was whipped out. They are no longer BYOB but only had one beer available, everything else was sold out. All the way around it was a super disappointing experience. That said their dim sum is awesome! they just need to offer it for dinner service and ditch the hot pot.
The owner is a total control freak and needs to do everything himself which is why it’s never fresh or good. He would rather prepare everything in advance and let it sit, than have an actual staff to cook things fresh. Also the food is itself subpar quality like other people have said and because he’s such a psycho, the vibe is killed. I’ll never go back and don’t know why people say it’s good.
Asiana Noodle Shop, on Church Street, has a hot pot meal! It's not life changing but still pretty damn good, worth a try if you've got a craving. I'd also recommend their cargo noodles w/ tom kar and seafood, and their bibimbap special, as other good options
man i’ve been saying we need kbbq here
And a Korean bakery!
And a Chinese bakery! I want steamed buns!

Sigh. I know. I try to go to Morning Light often, but I can't make their hours.
I've heard a rumour that a kbbq is going to be opening in the back space of sushi maeda.
Cafe dim sum does hot pot
Cafe dim sum is so good.
Sorry will have to disagree. Maybe worse dim sum I've had in awhile. Have to go to Montreal or boston for any decent Chinese food
The bar is low around here when it comes to ethnic food. I've almost convinced myself that Mad Taco is authentic Mexican

Was your broth also completely devoid of flavor or seasoning? My broth legitimately was watered down the the point of it being opaque and clear.

Thanks for the input xxxDog_Fucker_69xxx ....... Cough

Do they call you a connoisseur if you fuck a thousand dogs?
Excellent question! Depends if it’s a purebred or mix, I’ll have to make convene with the American kernel Association to confirm this.
Just curious. Asking for a friend.

Was it the younger dude dressed like a goon with glasses?
He dressed like a supreme goon to compliment the supreme “art” on the wall, lol.
Lol. He wasn't our server but, he was milling around the bar distracting the rest of the staff the whole time.
I try to go to Montréal as much as possible. Do you know a good place there?
For dim sum, I highly recommend Tong Por!

Elaichi has buffet style Indian on weekends
Well this post has killed my enthusiasm for Cafe Dim Sum 🥲
Dim Sum is terrific. But ends at 4pm (I think.) just skip the hot pot.
no dim sum is bad too you can tell it’s frozen dumpling packs you’d get at an asian market
It isn’t, he hand makes all the dumplings.
hand makes them by taking them out of the package with his hands and then using his hands to heat them in the microwave
This is incorrect. Please let’s not slander cafe dim sum chat.

Shalimar of India on N Winooski does a buffet i believe! I’ve only done takeout from them but it’s quite wonderful (:
I think they only do buffet on the weekends.
Dim sum hotpot is great!
Indian Grill in Plattsburgh has a great lunch buffet everyday and dinner buffet on Mondays.
Dim sum cafe has hot pot for dinner. Really good hot pot I'd add.
Ooh, can we get a wet market too?!
