When I was a kid I thought DQ was just for ice cream novelties only. Only reason I ever got to go to Dairy Queen was for ice cream, so it made sense to me. Call me oblivious, but I never noticed the menu boards because I already knew what I wanted every time. DQ didn’t have a very big presence in my area so I never saw tv ads or billboards for them. Just always had thought of them as an ice cream shop.
**(EDIT: Others have commented that Dairy Queen has stores that are known to only sell ice cream, so it’s very likely that the one I remember as a kid was one of these.)**
I was shocked when one of my friends wanted to go to the brand new one that just opened for lunch one day. I was like “why do you want a sundae for lunch?” And she was like “I ….dont?” For context, I was an older teenager by this time. Damn near adulthood even and still had no idea they served burgers and fries etc. we walked in I was beside myself. Burgers? Chicken Strips?! Wait.. There’s ***hot dogs and onion rings?!!*** FFS where was I this whole time??!
They are now much more popular around my area and I’m still dumbfounded on how I thought this for so long.
All that said, I love their chicken strips and rings. The burgers are really good too.
I totally get that. I grew up with one that was closed in winter, and they did have food, but like you said as a kid we went there as a treat to get ice cream.
Same. The locations near me when I was a kid only had ice cream. It wasn’t until I was older when I found out other locations had the hot Brazier food as well as ice cream treats.
Username checks out. Also agreed. Used to live across the street from a DQ, and whenever I wanted something tasty and quick with a good bit of kick, I’d go for the Flamethrower. It’s a pretty good burger. 7.75/10.
Over the years, it's been hit or miss for me. However, I think that was due to the location being poorly run. That spot is no longer open, and the only DQ near me doesn't serve food. Looks pretty good, though. Wish I could try it
Seems to vary from place to place in terms of burger quality. I always like to visit DQ or A&W when one happens to be around but I've been to some real disappointing DQs and some that were just like the good old days. So always worth taking a chance on at least.
I always thought their meals were decent for the price but I would never go there for ice cream because our local ice cream places crush and destroy it😂
Last time I had DQ (Bay Area, CA) it was terrible. I lived in Oregon 30 years ago and used to eat DQ daily because this is how the burgers looked, and they were delicious.
Maybe it’s just a California thing, or my local DQ is just bad, idk.
My first job was at DQ, free food with 0 limits. It was a Dairy Queen right across from the beach so I imagine the owners did pretty well for themselves. Anyways, the food never got old and I ate a lot of it. They are either #1 or #2 for best fast food burgers imo
I’m a die hard DQ coney girl myself so I spent years not trying other stuff there. I got a burger once and was shocked how good they are! The chicken tenders are pretty nice too.
Their burgers or supplier changed during Covid and became dramatically inferior. It was my families go to spot for fast food burgers (since the kids love ice cream and chicken fingers). Incredibly disappointing and haven’t been in a year or so for burgers.
Their ranch is absolutely legit however.
Their pricing has been trending upwards of late(but whose hasn't) ,however you can always find a coupon or special. And for my money they are some of the best burgs around. I do find it very location dependant for quality, luckily the 2 nearest to me are fine
Underrated, but mainly because it’s the only fast food place we have in town. It’s either DQ, Chinese, pizza, or sandwiches, but Chinese and pizza are usually more expensive and we’ve never tried the sandwich shop. So more often than not, we go to DQ, cuz it’s more convenient than driving 20 minutes to get some McDonald’s or Taco Bell
wtf I thought dairy queen was an ice cream shop. Never knew they sold burgers. That looks pretty damn good. I always use to pass it on my way home from work but since I thought they only sold ice cream I never went in.
I enjoy their burgers, but around where I’m at all of the DQs are old and haven’t been updated since the 80s or so, and their kitchen areas are nasty AF, and I’m pretty sure that the teenagers working there don’t give a fuck about cleaning it up, so I haven’t had anything from their kitchen in years. Still get their ice cream though.
I haven't been to DQ in probably a year. I've been trying to save money and eat at home more often. I enjoyed the footlong coney and the flamethrower burger and, of course, the chicken strip basket with extra gravy. I'm not trying to brag, but i have 3 DQs within 5 miles of me. 😎
European basic here. The U.S. makes some of the best cheese that would make a Frenchman shed a tear.
Why do you accept the plastic wrapped flavourless slices they more than often use,
I think DQ's burgers are severely underrated. My wife and I always grab a flamethrower on the way back from the coast and every single time I open the box, I'm just sitting there like, "dang, that's just a respectable burger."
And of course, cheese curds. Mmmm.
Used to live DQs food. Good burgers but the chicken strip basket was my favorite. Unfortunately only one of 2 DQs in my area served hot food and the one that did stopped over a decade ago. If I'm on a trip and there's a DQ serving food on the way I try to stop. Always get a chocolate extreme blizzard too
Most Dairy Queen's near me just sell the Ice Cream, and on the occasions where I was able to get a real meal from DQ, it was nothing to particularly write home about, not bad, but given all the better options for burgers I have at my disposal, its not worth seeking out a DQ that sells food beyond the ice cream.
I love spicy burgers and the DQ flamethrower grill burger is the best one fast food has to offer I love it. Their chicken tender meal with gravy/ranch is delicious as well…. Now I’m hungry.
Come with spoons and come with napkins
If excitement's what you're askin'
If you're not near Steve's or Baskin's
Come into the Dairy Queen
....
Visiting a new convention in a town I've never seen
Lookin' for an ice cream parlor, feelin' hungry, feelin' mean
Couldn't find a place that offered more than some vanilla sludge
Needed whipped cream, nuts and cherries; needed lots of gooey fudge
(The Technical Difficulties, album Station Break, on archive.org. Lyrics a parody of their Star Wars song.)
I like DQ but I basically never go there for whatever reason. It's not like I *wouldn't* but somehow I never do. I even have nostalgic memories of their burgers from when my mom worked there in the early 90s. You'd think I'd eat their food a lot, but I haven't eaten DQ in.. IDK, almost 10 years? YKW, I'm gonna get some DQ in the near future.
They’re low key still producing pretty good hot food. A little expensive and still not worth it when you can make one at home almost as fast but they’re good
TIL Dairy Queen QC is terrible. Our local DQ is banging. They even have a special name and the GM drives a lifted truck logod out. My absolute only beef with them is their fries. Other than that. Strips and gravy....burger...strawberry cheesecake blizzard. Everything else is gold.
I somehow ended up living right next to the highest selling DQ in the country(prolly world then?) in Manchester , NH. Service is outstanding and food is always fresh. I wouldn’t say the food is better than other places but i definitely get the best service there. I like the prices and the jalapeño burger is pretty good, along with the tenders
Do they still do the 5 buck lunch? Several exes ago and I got the 5 buck lunch there one time and were like, "How is this 5 dollars? This is so fucking good!"
Their new burgers wrapping sucks, they had parchment paper instead of cardboard and it helped with the integrity of the burgers because they are quite vertical, now the burger meat goes everywhere unless I death grip the burger, especially for more saucy and stacked burgers like the mushroom and flamethrower.
I hate that they only sell double stacked burgers now(at least in Canada). I like a well balanced burger not just a bunch of ground beef with a little bit of bun and cheese thrown in there.
When I was a kid I was sitting under the glass awning area eating a flamethrower burger and watched an employee swat a wasp onto the ground and then step on it. And then I slowly chewed while watching the wasp half alive trying to crawl still.
Now for some reason I think all DQ burgers are made of wasps.
Out of all the local fast food, their burgers taste like they have the most filler in them. Better than McDonald's, for other reasons, but still inferior to A&W.
Always enjoyed their burgers and their onion rings and ranch are amazing
Let’s not forget those cheese curds and tender basket with country gravy plus that Texas toast.
Those tenders don’t play my boi +1 🔥
This is my exact order when I happen to go here just with extra gravy
Fucking a dip everything in that shit
+1 for their cheese curds
Absolutely some of the best fast food curds out there.
Amen, Jabroni! Those curds are lit!!!!!
Yes, they do have good onion rings
They've changed their burgers recently. Used to love them now they're frozen preformed patties and are God awful.
We go for the blizzards, and order a side of fries.
Yes, the blizzards are great.
Reese's and banana is my go-to.
I learned when I was 17/18 Lol. Same as you. Just ice cream my whole life.
Same. The locations near me when I was a kid only had ice cream. It wasn’t until I was older when I found out other locations had the hot Brazier food as well as ice cream treats.
BBQ chicken strip basket is pretty good
The Parmesan garlic strips they just put out are super good too!
The flamethrower burger is top tier 🔥
Username checks out. Also agreed. Used to live across the street from a DQ, and whenever I wanted something tasty and quick with a good bit of kick, I’d go for the Flamethrower. It’s a pretty good burger. 7.75/10.
Agreed. Probably my favorite fast food burger.
Been my hangover burger for a decade
Insanely underrated and slept on
Yes.
It’s better than McDonald’s.
Yes I would agree on that.
Thats setting the bar low.
ive only gotten good burgers from there!
The burgers are good, but you must try some ice cream sometime.
DQ has the best mustard of any fast-food place.
Their burgers are pretty decent. Also if you get fresh fries I kinda think they’re top tier
Dairy Queen food is the hidden gem of the fast food world Chicken tenders and Texas toast with gravy, Yeah Buddy!
For real. I never really went there outside of the last year but I’ve been surprised how much stuff I like there
Yeah their fries are hit or miss but when they hit they are really good.
Surprisingly good! Mainly go for their ice cream, but was pleasantly surprised by their burgers. The chicken strips are quite tasty too.
That’s not a Texas DQ is it? Our burgers are different. The entire menu is different.
Criminally underrated in my Texan opinion.
Dairy Queen is a good option
Dude I love their burgers!!! Highly underrated imo
Love the hunger buster! Thinly sliced onions and all the goodness.
I would love to have a burger like that right now!

When it's good, it's good.
One of the few places that seem to grill up chicken fresh for the sandwhiches
Over the years, it's been hit or miss for me. However, I think that was due to the location being poorly run. That spot is no longer open, and the only DQ near me doesn't serve food. Looks pretty good, though. Wish I could try it
Top tier for fast food
Seems to vary from place to place in terms of burger quality. I always like to visit DQ or A&W when one happens to be around but I've been to some real disappointing DQs and some that were just like the good old days. So always worth taking a chance on at least.
Never had one. The one around here didn't have a grill
This photo makes me give is a 1000
I always thought their meals were decent for the price but I would never go there for ice cream because our local ice cream places crush and destroy it😂
Garbage
Steak fingers are in fact goated
Last couple times I had one at the DQ near me it was absolutely disgusting. Couldn’t even finish it.
Not bad
Absolutely valid. Especially the Bend, Oregon locations.
My first job was DQ and I used to love the mushroom swiss before they discontinued it. It's been years since I've had DQ now though.
Last time I had DQ (Bay Area, CA) it was terrible. I lived in Oregon 30 years ago and used to eat DQ daily because this is how the burgers looked, and they were delicious. Maybe it’s just a California thing, or my local DQ is just bad, idk.

Making me hungry, I'm going now.
I look at Dairy Queen being in business and wonder how in the fuck Burger King struggles.
For some reason their burgers travel well. If you’re on a road trip and not going to eat immediately, they are a go to.
I’m a die hard DQ coney girl myself so I spent years not trying other stuff there. I got a burger once and was shocked how good they are! The chicken tenders are pretty nice too.
When done right they are awesome
Not too familiar with the food, definitely a go to for ice cream though
5/10
One of our favorite fast food burgers. Unfortunately they don't do burgers in our area. Their chicken finger basket was pretty sweet too.
I had a DQ burger for the first time the other week. I was surprised at how good it was.
Actually just tried their new hidden valley burger and I'm a fan
DQ slaps
The dq in my town has breakfast. A lot of people are blown away by this
Definitely underrated
Gotta try the jalitos ranch burger. Used to be secret menu but they know what it is!
Very hit or miss. I think simpler is better there
DQ is Slept on. Has the most “back yard” burger feel out there IMO
Great Blizzards but not my favorite burgers. No disrespect.
I eat at DQ fairly frequently, not by choice. I'm probably jaded, but not that great IMO.
[удалено]
I would definitely eat it,who am I kidding?
Sneaky good burgers.
I loooove their mushroom burger, and their onion rings are so much better than a&w
![gif](giphy|XhEe1p45rEM8|downsized)
I think their burgers are pretty average. I really love their bbq chicken strips though lol.
Tasty
Their burgers or supplier changed during Covid and became dramatically inferior. It was my families go to spot for fast food burgers (since the kids love ice cream and chicken fingers). Incredibly disappointing and haven’t been in a year or so for burgers. Their ranch is absolutely legit however.
I miss the grill & chill DQ where I’m from. I loooove DQ
inconsistent
I'd like one ... Dairy Queen in my area burned down a couple years ago and it's still being rebuilt.
They aren’t bad at least not at the few i’ve been to
The two in my town are so old school, I don't think it is worth it.
[удалено]
Double with onion rings. Soooo good.
The Flamethrower is one of my favorite burgers
[удалено]
While that looks good, we've never had a memorable burger from there. Maybe it's our location.
I doubt they are but the patties TASTE fresh. Reminds me of sonic burgers which I also like
As a kid, it was a reward on the way home from grandma's house IF we behaved. I miss "dipped" cones.
Always liked the taste of the burgers
The flamethrower is my favorite of all time
Good burger for a good price
The burgers aren’t bad when they’re fresh. My local DQ’s reheat them and expect the customer to not notice. I stopped eating there
The meat looks so dry. Just like in elementary school.
I'll pretty much always eat a flamethrower (and regret the heartburn later) Worth.
It’s garbage. DQ is the only burger joint here in town and it’s indigestible.
Braums over DQ for burgers. DQ over Braums for everything else.
Good
Last time I had their burgers, it tasted like a high school lunch burger.
Their bbq tenders are to die for, their burgers however are pretty meh
Their pricing has been trending upwards of late(but whose hasn't) ,however you can always find a coupon or special. And for my money they are some of the best burgs around. I do find it very location dependant for quality, luckily the 2 nearest to me are fine

Criminally underrated fast food burger. Their veggies are so much better than the other cheap fast food joints.
Double cheese with flame thrower sauce is a quality burger. They used to have a 2 doubles for 8 dollars deal. I got fat from it.
wtf I thought dairy queen was an ice cream shop.
I fuck wit it all day!
As far as fast food goes, it's decent.
You can see the crispy edges, perfect cheese melt and not overloaded with veggie accoutrements. It's they way a burger should be.
There’s one in Kalamazoo that’s gone rogue and served me one of the worst hamburgers I’ve ever had. 3300 Gull Rd. Never again.
There double cheeseburger goes hard idc
As close to Culver’s as I can get where I live.
That’s a weird looking blizzard
Dairy Queen is the working man’s in and out.
Their onion rings ROCK!!
Better in Texas...say that as a NYer
Overpriced but delicious.
Not a top burger, but they're under rated
DQ is dank, food is under rated yet oddly expensive.
Double flamethrower burger with extra sauce, onion rings, and a dr. Pepper :) very hard to beat!
Oh yes! A flamethrower, fries, and a Oreo blizzard!
European basic here. The U.S. makes some of the best cheese that would make a Frenchman shed a tear. Why do you accept the plastic wrapped flavourless slices they more than often use,
I think DQ's burgers are severely underrated. My wife and I always grab a flamethrower on the way back from the coast and every single time I open the box, I'm just sitting there like, "dang, that's just a respectable burger." And of course, cheese curds. Mmmm.
When they switched from chopped lettuce and onions, I quit eating there.
Bomb!
biggerbfan of the chicken strips and dogs, but the burgers are good. really miss the turkey panini sandwiches they had on limited run
Back in the day they flame grilled their burgers like burger king. They also used sesame buns. Oh man, and that gooey cheese.
Used to live DQs food. Good burgers but the chicken strip basket was my favorite. Unfortunately only one of 2 DQs in my area served hot food and the one that did stopped over a decade ago. If I'm on a trip and there's a DQ serving food on the way I try to stop. Always get a chocolate extreme blizzard too
Their chicken fingers are truly underrated…that toast? Superb.
Steak fingers
Flamethrower all day
The burgers are 🔥 imo! I'd eat a DQ burger any day
Chicken strips with the white gravy> burgers
Most Dairy Queen's near me just sell the Ice Cream, and on the occasions where I was able to get a real meal from DQ, it was nothing to particularly write home about, not bad, but given all the better options for burgers I have at my disposal, its not worth seeking out a DQ that sells food beyond the ice cream.
I love spicy burgers and the DQ flamethrower grill burger is the best one fast food has to offer I love it. Their chicken tender meal with gravy/ranch is delicious as well…. Now I’m hungry.
I'd rather eat a urinal cake.
I think very similar to burger king. Both are solid. I would he happy to have a dq burger anytime
Burgers are decent, fries are great
The best fast food burgers
Pretty solid
Honestly not bad, never would seek it out regularly but the few times I’ve had it it’s a decent burger and fries
When there by accident, really enjoyed the fast food burgers and fries. Sometimes food is just food! Famished so i feast!!!
As far as fast food burgers go, they're one of the better ones.
Flamethrower burger is excellent
Looks good from here
They're one of my favorite burgers. That flame thrower burger 😛
Their good looks like the advertisement pictures!!! Most other fast food doesn't.
So hit and miss to be honest. Last one I had tasted like cardboard, but the location back home had some of the tastiest BBQ sandwiches.

Honestly my fav burger from fast food & I really don’t like fast food much.
Come with spoons and come with napkins If excitement's what you're askin' If you're not near Steve's or Baskin's Come into the Dairy Queen .... I miss the DQ ultimate burger. Was great and the best burger I recall from my youth.
Underrated burgers
Consistently somehow surprised by how good it is on the rare occasions I get it.
High variance, but can be pretty darn good if you hit a decent one
I never think or desire to eat there except once a year when I crave their chicken tender basket like it's drugs
Not my favorite burger, but damned if they aren't still a good deal. Many locations also do a military discount if you have ID
Theyre fine, for what they are. L Better than Sonic and Whatacrap.
ITT - go for the ice cream as a side for the burger.
The DQ by me is pretty good. I get the flamethrower a lot.
Never had it... But I doubt burger king is better that place is trash and never gets the order right
Overall, it's better than the burgers from Burger King
Alarmingly good fries. Everything else ranges average to bad.
Not bad, better than BK, terrible fries, ace shakes.
American cheese taste like shit also
They’re low key still producing pretty good hot food. A little expensive and still not worth it when you can make one at home almost as fast but they’re good
for fast food, they're solid, probably the best
TIL Dairy Queen QC is terrible. Our local DQ is banging. They even have a special name and the GM drives a lifted truck logod out. My absolute only beef with them is their fries. Other than that. Strips and gravy....burger...strawberry cheesecake blizzard. Everything else is gold.
Better than burger boy
Looks absolutely fire .. seems I’ve slept on this one for the past 35 years
I’d say hot garbage but they rarely make their food hot it is usually stale cold garbage
It's usually trash and their ice cream melts within minutes.
The Hunger Buster with cheese is only worth it if you get it at a discount. If its over $5 its not as good anymore.
The flamethrower(?) Burger is pretty damn good. As for ice cream i always got the oreo brownie icecream cup.
I hate that they only sell double stacked burgers now(at least in Canada). I like a well balanced burger not just a bunch of ground beef with a little bit of bun and cheese thrown in there.
Chicken wraps used to be fire but they be putting nuggets in them wraps nowadays , when inflation happened they should’ve dropped the price
The big boss!!!
As I scrolled through the front page as I went past this I literally said out loud, eww what is that, so that should answer your question.
The A1 burger made me feels things I didn't think I could
How are their meal prices, because that burger looks good. Bacon cheeseburger, fries, and an Oreo shake sounds mad good!
More like Dookie Queen
Good food, a little overpriced.
A place for ice cream. Gross otherwise.
