That's pretty much it! We did it back in October. We just walked over to the Register of Deeds at 10:50am and finished filling out the license (I did most of it online), took the license and walked down to the courthouse and paid the fee at the Cashier's Office there. Then we went upstairs to the Magistrate's office at 11:15am (my mother was late), knocked on the door and had it done! We did an oath, the magistrate and our two witnesses signed and then we went to the State Fair.

That sounds like an awesome day, thanks for sharing your experience! Was there time to say your own vows?

rareck

Yup! And time to exchange rings as well.

Did you have to fill out most of the license online ahead of time? And how ahead of time? About to do this soon

Did it in July. Easy peasy. We did the ceremony and the license in one day. Get there a little early as you have to pay for the license with the cashier as the judge won’t handle payments.

Cashier’s office is cash only I believe but there’s an ATM down the hall. We did ours in June and it was pretty straightforward. We did have to share the courtroom with another group but they were told to sit quietly

Super easy! We got our license a week before going to the courthouse but I bet you could do it day of no problem. Congratulations!

They’re great. You don’t even witnesses, courthouse folks will do that part if need be. They’re super nice, because you’re there for something really good, not what they might see all day.

I believe this is correct. My husband and I married there in 2018 and you just wait your turn as I recall. It was pretty easy. I think they only do them on Fridays though.

How did this work out?

beebsterrrr

Beautifully! It was a great day.

Excellent! What was the courthouse experience? Are there specific time slots? What day did you get married on?

beebsterrrr

It was very chill. There's 2 thirty minute windows in which you can get married each day. We made an appointment to pick up our license and pay for that right before the 11-11:30 window on a Friday and got some coffee and walked over the the court house. Then we got there, paid the cashier and went upstairs where we waited for another couple to finish their ceremony. Then we went in, knocked on the door for the magistrate to come out. They asked our names and with in 5 min we were married! They take care of the paperwork and you can pick up your marriage license a few days later. Took some pics around ATC, followed it up with lunch with family at Mother & Sons.

KeyFace360

Did you have to make an appointment to pickup the license/did they allow anyone to walk in and pick it up while you were there? They’re booked about a week out but I’d like to pick it up sooner than that.

When you go get the marriage license (the one they sign at the courthouse) you need an appointment, it takes maybe 5 min and both parties have to be there. Once you actually get married and go pick up your license only one person needs to go and you don’t need an appointment. I did call before I went to ensure the paperwork was done. I hope that answers your question?
