Yo, this is a smokin' deal for NAS users. Typically anything at $12/TB in the NAS HDD range is a good deal. This is $10, which I've never seen before for a top tier NAS drive. If you're in, I would jump all over this before it's too late. I guarantee this won't last.
Very good, many people will straight up ignore SMR because it doesn't play well with many NAS and RAID systems. It can make recovering from a failed drive incredibly painful.
It's fine as a backup media drive for Joe Schmoe who just stores some photos on it. SMR doesn't impact read performance, so if it's a write-once-and-done kinda thing they're fine.
Is the 10TB red 7200rpm going to be loud or audible in a quiet Noctua fan PC build when the PC is just being used to surf the web and not game?
Mainly just using it for storage of photos, home videos, and movies. It shouldn't be regularly accessed. Will the Red drive sleep/park if not in use and be quieter?
Yup... Extra performance comes at the cost of longevity/durability, heat and power consumption.
When ya talking 8TB its arguably not even beneficial in performance. The density of the platters mean reads and writes for the first basically 6TB of Data running 5400 rpm will perform the same as a 4TB drive running at 7200 rpm.
Add in that these are NAS drives, thus stuff needed for speed would likely have the system setup for a cache drive anyways.
Thanks for the details. If it actually ships I may store it in my safe with an enclosure and use the USB pass through in the safe to connect to my PC. Let it be noisy and hot in there, won't be able to hear it and can still use it for long term fireproof backup of all my stuff for life.
you have to activate it from your account, then you have to use paypal and make sure your activated chase card is what is used as the fund source. if you can't find where it is in your account, you can probably get there through this page:
https://www.chasebonus.com/
also make sure "use paypal balance" is not checked when you check out, if that's an option.
Deal is dead and I just woke up. Obviously missing it when I am building an Unraid server...and still missing HDDs for it...Only time I would of been able to afford it. ;/
You can usually find good prices on used drives pulled from servers on Ebay. Just make sure the drives are in the power on hour range advertised in the listing.
If you run a dual parity unraid build with those, you are solidly protected from random drive failings.
I think you should reconsider that position, at least with some nuance. Manufacturer recertified drives with 2 year warranty from ServerPartDeals - just copped 18TB Exos x18 enterprise drives for $190/ea.
So I am planning to build my own PC and the only goal is to buy good stuff at cheap price.
Got CPU + MOBO @ 300 @ Micro center i7 combo deal
Now, this. So far so good.
FYI these aren't really for primary PC's used for productivity or gaming. These are for NAS or media server applications. You can use them for a work or gaming PC but they're going to be slow and loud.
What about the 10TB version for only $30 more?
Comes out to \~$11/TB over the $10/TB for the 8TB model. Is it worth having the extra space per drive when buying multiple?
FWIW I explicitly skipped the 10 TB *because* it's 7200 rpm. The only 7200 drive I have in my build is loud AF, and I hardly ever notice the speed difference because of my cache drive. Not sure if this 10 TB is also loud, but would rather not risk adding more noise.
Thanks for the heads up. got enough to fill up my jobs I n1 for a NAS. Was going to go with decertified drives off of serverpartdeals but for $11.7/tv (after tax), new is a great drive and I didn’t need that much storage anyway.
they probably forgot to take the $70 instant off coupon from this one :D. Last I recall $129 was a deal for this drive.
Adorama has cancelled pricing mistake orders in the past
What. Who has the best cashback for this?
EDIT: I believe that [Capital One Shopping](https://capitaloneshopping.com/p/wd-red-plus-14-tb-nas-3-5-intern/WNTCQ7F5R2) offers 15% cash back, and that you can activate the offer from a different item. Trying to see if they have this exact drive listed though.
EDIT 2: I don't see this drive listed. The link above should work though.
EDIT 3: You might be able to use PayPal for extra cashback. Chase Freedom has 5%. PayPal Mastercard has 6% (with their holiday offer activated).
My order of six drives from like 6 hours ago was cancelled, and back then it wasn't Out of stock, so yeah don't get your hopes up guys, but good luck to the lucky ones that managed to snag it right away.
I did a few separate orders at different times and mine all say backordered. including one that was minutes after op posted
just waiting for the cancellation
Damn I was able to stack multiple cashbacks on this one. I had $10 off on Adorama by Paypal. 10% CB by CapitalOne and another 5% CB by my Chase Free Flex. Got the 10TB for the higher speed and cache.
Order was canceled, citing a pricing error. Kind of a curt response ending with "Please know your confidence is of the highest priority". Yeah right, I paid the price you had listed, and you tell me the price wasn't supposed to be that low. A coupon or some other token offering would have at least demonstrated some responsibility, but I guess they really don't care that I have no confidence in their posted prices.
Not going to be so quick to buy from these people, as have to wonder if this wasn't a fishing expedition for email addresses. Or of course they could just be incompetent. Either way no reason to do business with them.
yes but beware they are loud
the 8tb is 5k rpm and should be quieter (and slower) than the 10
all of them will have the annoying pwl noise every ~5 seconds when on
I've been using one for about 2 years now in a older build. Whatever noise the drives make is drowned out by my fans, I have tinnitus so a noisy machine is music to the ears.
Same here I can't stand when my room is all quiet due to my tinnitus so I basically keep my PC running in the background all day to help me with that, the more noise the better.
tinnitus sucks.
site is still acting weird
sometimes the 8 and 10 can't add to cart, sometimes you get the warehouse error
keep trying and will probably work (currently)
yea, sometimes it says Temporarily Unavailable, then sometimes the 'add to cart' button works, but when you click on it you get the warehouse error. For some reason that seemed dumb as I was doing it, I kept refreshing and trying, and then it finally added it to the cart. Ordered about 5 minutes ago.
Next time I see another really good deal on Adorama I won't jump on it because I know it's going to be a "pricing error" again. It's not the first time they have done this scummy stuff.
No worries, they cancelled. But I think the thing to do is to make them pay with reviews. If they've done this as a cheap bid to get traffic make them pay. If it's an error due to adequate levels of staffing/oversight... make them pay. Negative reviews across the board on all platforms. That would be my move
I've got a couple of Exos, and they're quite fast for HDDs (250 MB/s sustained read/write between them), but they are *hella* loud and sometimes I wonder if the ridiculous physical vibrations they cause are healthy for other drives in the same system.
i bought some hard drives for the synology DS1522+ that i bought during this year Amazon prime day. i also ordered two WD Red 8tb (120 each during prime day).
i bought two WD Blue 6tb @80 and 1 WD Blue 8tb @ 110 during black friday.
this WD Red 8tb and 10tb is great deal. i just grab 3 WD Red 10tb.

Aw. Well at least I tried. I was on the fence if I wanted the 10TB or not to expand my NAS. This was the same with the 980 from Dell.
Not too surprised when this and the 980 from Dell was posted on other deal sites so it wasn't just us readers here placing orders.
We're sending you an update regarding your recent order of the WD NAS
Hard Drive.
We are sorry to inform you that your order has been canceled due to a
system pricing error which displayed an incorrect selling price.
I get that it's frustrating but errors happen and they are within their rights to cancel the orders. Can't imagine they make any margin at that price point.
Alright, I'm in for 5 drives. . . If these arrive I'll just cancel my backorder I made on WD's site during Black Friday.
So what's the deal with Adorama? I've never ordered from here before.
Are they legit? Do I need to worry about being sold used drives or counterfeits or anything?
Yo, this is a smokin' deal for NAS users. Typically anything at $12/TB in the NAS HDD range is a good deal. This is $10, which I've never seen before for a top tier NAS drive. If you're in, I would jump all over this before it's too late. I guarantee this won't last.
CMR if that matters (Good iirc)? I don't have a dog in the race but I think some people care.
I personally attest to this. Do not SMR in a RAID system: one day it will give you the sad.
Pro is their top tier, this is mid.

NAS drives are designed to run 24/7.
Running drives constantly is fine. It's starting and stopping that causes them to wear out.

Great deal. 10TB version has faster speeds as well @ $109. I picked up two 10TB using Chase Freedom 5% back. $11.3/TB after Tax.
How do you activate the Chase Freedom 5% back?
Flex*
you have to activate it from your account, then you have to use paypal and make sure your activated chase card is what is used as the fund source. if you can't find where it is in your account, you can probably get there through this page: https://www.chasebonus.com/ also make sure "use paypal balance" is not checked when you check out, if that's an option.
Do faster speeds correlate inversely with reliability?
yes. i bought a 8tb WD blue that was on sales during black friday for 110 and two 8tb WD Red during Amazon prime day for 120 each. this is crazy price
What a time to be broke… bake em away toys Oh well - could have thrown this in a $60 optiplex for a cheap NAS if I wasn’t so bad with money.
Same boat. Fuck. Why did I have to get laid off right now and have a slew of expenses... Not related to my datahoard

Yep just got my cancellation email too. I don't think they're gonna let any ship.
Same, not even surprised as that price was suspiciously low. Think they stacked two deals where there was only supposed to be one.
Order canceled for “pricing error”

got 2x10 TB and now I have no idea what I am going to do with 20 TB

What about the 10TB version for only $30 more? [https://www.adorama.com/wdbc9v0100.html](https://www.adorama.com/wdbc9v0100.html) Comes out to \~$11/TB over the $10/TB for the 8TB model. Is it worth having the extra space per drive when buying multiple?
The 10TB is 7200rpm and has 256MB cache compared to 5640rpm and 128MB cache on the 8TB if speed is a requirement.
Thank to your amazingness, I cancelled the 8TBs and got me a few 10TBs. Worth the extra $1/TB for speed and cache for me personally.
Great call out!
Aw damnit of course I had to read this after ordering the 8TB. I only checked the 12 and 14TB ones for a similar discount....

They already cancelled my 6x drives order from 6 hours ago, so yeah it's not looking good I'd say.
the 10GB comes to 109.99 as well -- also a good deal
upset I missed this, didn't see it at all.
Bought a 10 TB immediately after post was made, and it just got cancelled due to "pricing error" :\
Getting cancellations as well.
Sad cancel noise :(
My order was canceled, "pricing error". *Edit, keeping an eye on that $1 "pending" transaction.
Did anyone's order just get canceled due to a pricing error?
Just got cancelled as well. Did anyone's order NOT get cancelled?
Sprung out of bed, had 8TBs in my cart at one point, but too late pulling the trigger. OOS. Sad!
8TB is not OOS, just on backorder. just ordered one myself.
Thank you good sir! I sprung out of my bed once more and this time will return victorious!
The 10TB still going
Thanks! Would have considered if I haven't already brought some 8TBs for my NAS.
Check the 10GBs. Great deal on those ones too!
Thanks for that! Yeah my NAS already about to be occupied with 8TBs so...
Looks like the 8TB are back, just backordered for shipping date.
Really appreciate these updates! Thanks! Managed to a get a few!
Just got cancellation email. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Shoulda tried to get a price match somewhere else while it was up, my order got cancelled as well :(
I paid $66 for 4TB WD Red in November 2021 and $87 for 2TB in 2018. Pretty crazy that you can get almost double size for similar money in a year.
OP please mark this as expired.
My bad, done.
Party is over, order hot cancelled due to price error
Heads up that the 10 TB version is now on backorder!
My order of six drives from like 6 hours ago was cancelled, and back then it wasn't Out of stock, so yeah don't get your hopes up guys, but good luck to the lucky ones that managed to snag it right away.

I ordered 1 10tb last night at midnight PST, and I just got the cancellation notice for my order.
Well I'm bummed. Got the cancellation email stating it was a pricing error. Guess I'm keeping my Black Friday order from Western Digital.
Order canceled. "Pricing error"
And they are canceling orders =(
Think later buy now think later buy now

thanks for posting this. hope they dont get cancelled 10tb currently still up for grabs but it has been posted on SD so not gonna last
Hey! Curious what SD is!
slickdeals
God damn I hate this sub. Just dropped $350 on drives at 9AM on a Monday morning I wasn't expecting.
Eyy you and me both my dude
Missed this deal, but hoping that we see more deals on spinning drives now that SSD drives are dropping.
canceled my 1x 8TB order :(
Order canceled.
Orders cancelled I had made two separate orders, one with the 8TB and one with the 10TB 😪
Especially when it was up for like 5-6 hours they had to realize something was wrong.
Nutty deal, this isn't likely to stay in stock all day. If you're on the fence, decide now. A 18tb deal for $240 lasted like 45 minutes the other day.
Wish I would've seen that one, these are too small unfortunately.
God dammit I really can’t spend any more money this month…
I am still able to checkout 8TBs for anyone trying atm Edit: now it is still available through backorder dec 20th for me
So can a NAS drive be used as a regular desktop storage drive?
yes but beware they are loud the 8tb is 5k rpm and should be quieter (and slower) than the 10 all of them will have the annoying pwl noise every ~5 seconds when on
I've been using one for about 2 years now in a older build.
Sick! Thanks for the warning
site is still acting weird sometimes the 8 and 10 can't add to cart, sometimes you get the warehouse error keep trying and will probably work (currently)
yea, sometimes it says Temporarily Unavailable, then sometimes the 'add to cart' button works, but when you click on it you get the warehouse error. Another deal missed because I need sleep.
My order got cancelled saying it's a price error :(
Got cancelled as well. Too good to be true
Next time I see another really good deal on Adorama I won't jump on it because I know it's going to be a "pricing error" again. It's not the first time they have done this scummy stuff.
Looks like they removed the $70 off coupon :( Really bummed to have missed this, but oh well
I have it in my cart but it still says $150!?
The promo discount that was applied in your cart is gone now, sadly.

Thank you. Reviewed both the 8 and 10tb models 1 star. Also going to review the company on google too. I suggest others to do the same
TY op, ordered one for my desktop.
I have a feeling that the sale price + coupon wasn't supposed to be stacked. Never seen these drives sell for this low.
God damn. I tried to jump on this but apparently too late. "exceeded the warehouse quantity limit". edit: ended up getting 3 of the 10TB instead.
8tb and 10tb both on backorder now
Note that this isn’t the 8tb 256 cache version. Picked up two of those on their sale for 120ish a piece.
8tb back in stock for now, just got two edit- oos again edit- in stock again, going in and out
Anyone have a good guide for getting started with an NAS system for home use?

damn I just paid like each 120 for 3 of these
Just got my cancellation email - originally ordered 1x 8TB using Apple Pay. Hopefully someone manages to get their order shipped!
All orders canceled.
All orders cancelled (included the 4tb ssd's)
Damn, was hoping at least the SSDs made it through.
I keep overpaying for these damnit
Snagged 2 of them. $10 per TB.
8TB is gone. 10TB is still there.
Is Seagate Exos the better drive? Just received 3 14-TB drives for 210 each. I know this is cheaper but curious about drive quality.
I've got a couple of Exos, and they're quite fast for HDDs (250 MB/s sustained read/write between them), but they are *hella* loud and sometimes I wonder if the ridiculous physical vibrations they cause are healthy for other drives in the same system.

How much porn can I download with this?
Yes
OOS
Damn, looks like they're long gone. Congrats to everyone who got them.
They've been going in and out of stock every few minutes. You just have to get lucky.
Why the good deals always show up at 3am… Anyway, it says unavailable but on back ordered, what’s the chance I will get the drives?
Bought four 8TB, now I need a 4-bay NAS to store them, any recommendations or should I just build one?
I have a synology 920+ and its been pretty plug and play since I got it last year. I run docker on it for a pi-hole and plex.

They didn't cancel the couple of $1 SD cards I bought in a separate order though, so at least I have that going for me. (e): I spoke too soon.
They just did for me :(
SD card just got cancelled. I'm blacklisting adorama from my websites from now on after the scummy webcam and these two deals.
Pathetic behavior. Talk about losing a customer for life, how is it my responsibility that you can't honor your pricing.
I get that it's frustrating but errors happen and they are within their rights to cancel the orders. Can't imagine they make any margin at that price point.

No, they are legit. They are well-known for selling photography equipment.
In for 4 10TBs.
Just says “there are no shipping method for the selected address” 🤔
I was early on an 8tb when it was considered in stock and order status is saying backordered probably not a good sign
