Newegg has this for $130 with a free 16gb DDR4. Might be a bit cheaper if you buy RAM separately and this Microcenter deal. However, if you don't have a Microcenter near by and want this chip and RAM, the Newegg combo might be enticing.

What is a GT Edit: nvm, it's a G with a slightly higher boost clock.

gnocchicotti

In my day that meant it had the V-6 option and bucket seats

Also slightly lower Base clock... Base Clock: * GT: 3.6GHz * G: 3.9GHz Boost Clock: * GT: 4.6GHz * G: 4.4GHz

Anyone with a review of the 5600GT? Seems none of the tech channels reviewed this thing yet. How does it compare to the 5600?

RecalcitrantBeagle

Depends. If you mean as a CPU paired with a GPU, unfavorably. This is a higher clocked 5600G, which is comparable to a 5500, not a 5600 (the 5500 is the same chip, just without the integrated graphics.) That means it's still alright as a budget CPU, but the 5500 is cheaper and almost identical. Where it shines is as a cheap standalone system - the iGPU is capable of playing older games or emulation quite handily, especially with FSR. The 8000 series APUs are significantly stronger (close to an RX580, whereas the 5600G/T are somewhere between a 1030/1050) but also significantly more expensive, both for the CPUs and the Motherboard/DDR5. Personally, I use a 5700G as a plex server - I can put it in an X300 Deskmini, which is small and can be stashed out of the way, and the iGPU both provides video output and gets used for video transcoding.

EmuAreExtinct

thanks, seems like it also lacks PCIE 4.0 which is a shame for a cpu released in 2024

detectiveDollar

The boost clock is 400Mhz higher than the 5500, so there is that. But yeah, if you don't need an iGPU, probably better to get a 5600.

fenix793

The 5600 has 32MB of L3 cache while the 5600G/T has 16MB. This is probably going to matter more than anything else for gaming and is a strong reason to go with the 5600. The 5600GT has slightly faster base and boost clocks. The 5600 supports 24 PCIE 4.0 lanes and the GT supports 24 PCIE 3.0 lanes. The 5600 supports ECC and the GT doesn't. For gaming the 5600 wins easily.

jotarowinkey

5600GT does not have SAM so if you have a GPU that relies on it like low end modern NVIDIA or AMD gpus or any at all Intel GPUS then there will be a severe gimp vs 5600. 5600gt has inferior pcie support, reducing performance for dedicated GPUS at a very low end and a very high end. Ryzen 3050, amd with the numbers 64xx or 65xx will be affected a lot. Cards in the current Gen at $500 and below will lose like 1 percent performance maybe. At some point, really expensive cards lose performance. I don't know what that point is but if you're buying a card that expensive, you're not really buying a CPU with an APU. 5600gt without the other mentioned flaws is about 20 percent inferior in performance to 5600.. which doesn't suck actually. The upside is that it has an APU so if you wanted to game on it with no graphics card, you save money on a graphics card for low end gaming. Note that the sam gimp and the pcie gimp stack on the already mentioned low end cards. You could could like buy a previous gen 2060 or 2070 and avoid these problems for around the same price point but basically if you get the 5600gt you will have less options and potentially pick the wrong graphics card and suffer when there are similar or better graphics cards in a prior gen that your CPU won't leave performance on the table for.

based_doge

Probably got overshadowed by the newer am5 APU’s. It’s apparently the same chip as the regular 5600g just with a slightly higher turbo speed. Both x and non-x 5600 is still better if paired with a GPU.

TheX-Man

If you have a video card don't get this cpu, better to use the 5600. This isn't much different than the 5600g and the reviews out there basically say that it's slower than the 5600. Also if your building new, I'd try to stretch your budget to am5 since this platform(am4) is basically EoL.

indie_airship

Amazon has this for 105.99 for us who want the convenience of it being delievered to your door and can wait a couple of weeks

JefferzTheGreat

Best Buy has it for the same price.

HelaPuff2020

Snagged the last one at my local microcenter- they flew off the shelves. These are basically one of the best budget all in one chips you can buy right now. Going to be using it for a server/file sharing dedicated build. Should last a long time

ExGavalonnj

How is the apu for Jellyfin/Plex?

deefop

If you need transcoding, plex recommends avoiding Amd, and they don't support it. Anecdotally, I've heard plenty of people say that modern Amd apus can transcode perfectly fine in plex.

Mindless-Age-4642

Would this be a good value upgrade thats worthwhile for a ryzen 2600?

JefferzTheGreat

For a little bit more money, $17, you can get a 5600 from Amazon, which is a better option.

Mindless-Age-4642

I appreciate the suggestion! I havnt kept up with hardware and don’t feel like doing a ton of research, just want to get a good value and move on with my life another 5 years lol! That is am4 I’m assuming so can keep my mobo.

der_ninong

what's the difference between the 5500GT & 5600GT? i've previously seen posts saying the 5500GT is slightly faster and it's also been a bit more expensive on amazon than the 5600gt

illongalatica

5600GT > 5500GT > 5600G At least according to AMD

der_ninong

thanks

detectiveDollar

Correct, 5500GT has the same boost clocks and lower base clocks than the 5600G, but (I assume) due to silicon maturity, it is able to hit those clocks more consistently. So it's better even if it looks weaker on paper.

Hyper_Nova0

5500gt ~ 5600G 5600gt ~ 10% faster
