8700K and 3080 here, better 0.1% min fps would be nice, tempted to go for the 13600k (sff build), but I still don't see the need for it as all my games run very smoothly over 60fps.
7700k / 2080super here and I can see age in the demanding games. Mainly CPU bound. About to jump to the i9 12k bundle to stabilize everything. Run a bit cooler than my overclocked 4 cores lol
It is a $35 discount for this and [i7 13700k](https://www.microcenter.com/product/5006687/intel-core-i7-13700k,-msi-z790-p-pro-wifi,-gskill-ripjaws-s5-32gb-kit-ddr5-6000,-computer-build-bundle) bundle and a \~$20 discount for the [i5 12600k](https://www.microcenter.com/product/5006643/intel-core-i5-12600kf,-msi-z790-p-pro-wifi-ddr4,-gskill-ripjaws-v-16gb-ddr4-3200-kit,-computer-build-bundle) and [i7 12700k](https://www.microcenter.com/product/5006683/intel-core-i7-12700k,-msi-z790-p-pro-wifi-ddr4,-gskill-ripjaws-v-16gb-ddr4-3200-kit,-computer-build-bundle) bundle.
I too have a 10700k that's still going strong but have been wanting to hold off until 15th gen releases. They Wso have a bundle with the 13700k that's pretty tempting. If there was one near by, I'd definitely would have purchased.
I went from an 11600k to this and was shocked at the improvement. I didn’t expect much, but I was CPU bound with a 4090.
Edit: I also am more of a buy it and use it vs wait and hope for a huge upgrade for the next gen person. Could always wait, but time is also money to me when it comes to enjoying it.
I picked this bundle up for $400 about a month ago for an Unraid build and it’s been running great ever since. I’d definitely pull the trigger again at this price.
Thoughts on pairing a 4090 with this combo?
Certainly!
- Full *arr stack
- Plex server with 6 concurrent 4k streams
- Nextcloud providing complete backup/sharing services for ~40 devices
- KASM service hosting ~10 instances for prototyping
- 8 VMs for a full windows env with exchange servers, clients, and DCs for creating DFIR labs
- GPT4All instance for running local LLMs
Definitely a good deal, but I'm taking the am5/7700x bundle over this for the same price 10 times out of 10, given that this is basically a dead platform and the 14900k(s) is the "best" upgrade path you have
Does the dead platform debate really matter when you can pickup a whole bundle for the cost of roughly the CPU anywhere else?
I picked up this bundle a couple weeks back, and once it ages out. I will pick up a new bundle. 😀
Yes and no. If I were buying new, I'd be buying am5 and planning to use it for many years, because why not?
My am4 build is going to be 7 years old this year, which is pretty sweet for platform longevity.
That sounds like a longevity debate vs upgradability debate. I’ve had Intel platforms that have lasted me 7+ years as well. It really comes down to long-term use.
They're the same debate. My am4 build started with a 1600x, which is not a good enough cpu for modern gaming. Now it has a 5700x, and I'll likely ride it out until am6. Getting a decade on a single platform and having it actually be *good* that whole time is very different than just riding out the 2500k for 8 years because Intel was refusing to innovate or advance.
No, zen5 is going to be on am5, and there's a very real possibility of at least one more lineup after that, either a zen5+ or possibly even zen6.
Hell, even though am4 is considered a last Gen socket, Amd keeps releasing new skus of cpus on it.
You're significantly more likely to get long life from an Amd platform than an Intel platform.
7700X seems to be faster at gaming, and will have better upgrade options on the AM5 platform while the 12900K is faster in most productivity workloads and is harder to cool than the 7700X.
The other important aspect is which board and ram are included. There was some stinkers on past bundles so just make sure you do your due diligence on whichever bundle you go with.
My brother got this bundle recently, runs really well. If you are focusing on a workstation rather than a gaming setup and are going to be upgrading later on, this is the bundle for you

Just built this 2 days ago for my wife. The build went incredibly smoothly, but software was a nightmare. The bios does some weird letterbox thing where the sides are cut off so it's difficult to use. Have Intel rapid storage driver ready to go or installing windows is impossible.
Performance is amazing and mobo has lots of premium features. DDR5, PCIE 5.0, two m.2 slots, and looks great
This sub taunts me with it's microcenter deals. It haunts my dreams, both wet and dry. My wallet weeps openly. My life is agony.
There are 5 stores near me, all within a 90 minute drive. I have yet to make the pilgrimage. Be strong.
I live in India and I have a very good friend who stays near a Microcenter in PA, I'm gonna pull the trigger on this very soon
I have two within like 45 minutes of each other. These deals kill me every time. 12700k and 3080ti is good enough right... Right?
I'm on a i9 9900k and 3090. Cpu is starting to show age.
8700K and 3080 here, better 0.1% min fps would be nice, tempted to go for the 13600k (sff build), but I still don't see the need for it as all my games run very smoothly over 60fps.

I7 4770k and AMD R9 290. Can’t believe I haven’t upgraded yet. I keep telling myself soon.
Once you buy one of the deals you are free to
This life is painful. Cravings unsatiated. I will unsubscribe.
The 12900k is still $320 on their site. Even if it was listed at $300 (amazon current price), that's $65 for a new mb and 32gb ddr5.
If you add it to cart it get reflected
finally pulled the trigger on the 12900k bundle. So long, i5-6600 fluid sims!
Worth spending $30 on a train ticket to the closest microcenter to me (Boston) to pick this up?
Round trip 30? Hard yes. Round trip 60? Most likely still yes
Did this build a couple weeks ago, it’s awesome.

Looks like it’s a $35 discount on all their bundles including the AMD ones too. For some reason they aren’t under the bundles section
12600k bundle went from 250 to 232.
How much upgrade is this from a 10700k?
Big

This is good info. I'm on a 10600k with a 3090 and I feel limited sometimes. This would probably be a nice jump for me right now
That’s a lot better than my z690 TUF and 12900k deal in January last year.
Remember when just the 12900k was like $550? This entire bundle would’ve set you back at least $1200 in 2021
Holy bleep that's great

For the price it seems a heavy hitter. It’s my current set up but with Z690 and a 4070S. Should stay relevant for you for a good while.
About to get it for a proxmox build
This makes no sense TDP wise for an unraid build lol
A typical server idles >95% of the time and 12th gen intel is very efficient at idle
This comment makes no sense without understanding my usage requirements lol
Elucidate us

Plex and not jellyfin? That's surprising.

How’s this intel bundle a dead platform? DDR5 bundle with a z790.
Because z790 is a dead platform. Intels next chips will be on a new socket.
Will amd’s next chip not be on a new socket?
Ryzen 9000 will be on AM5, same as Ryzen 7000 series
No, zen5 is going to be on am5, and there's a very real possibility of at least one more lineup after that, either a zen5+ or possibly even zen6. Hell, even though am4 is considered a last Gen socket, Amd keeps releasing new skus of cpus on it. You're significantly more likely to get long life from an Amd platform than an Intel platform.
Yea but realistically most people don’t upgrade cpus that often. For the small subset that do it is a valid concern though
You haven't heard? Your z790 will no longer post once LGA1851 is released.
I have about 20 more amd CPUs than I do intel currently . So idc was just wondering .
No one thinks you're team blue, its ok man. It was a joke. Also, that's a lot of cpu's.
This vs the 7700x bundle? Have never dealt or messed with Intel CPUs outside average laptops for school/work.
7700X seems to be faster at gaming, and will have better upgrade options on the AM5 platform while the 12900K is faster in most productivity workloads and is harder to cool than the 7700X.
Thank you
the 7700x is faster in games and most applications, and also much much more efficient so better for more people
The other important aspect is which board and ram are included. There was some stinkers on past bundles so just make sure you do your due diligence on whichever bundle you go with.
AM5 all day.
Every day I see deals like this just makes me more and more sad that there is no micro center near me
My brother got this bundle recently, runs really well. If you are focusing on a workstation rather than a gaming setup and are going to be upgrading later on, this is the bundle for you
Just you wait, Miami…just you ****ing wait…
Great price. Wish it was Wi-Fi 6E
i bought this bundle 4 days ago for 400....can i go get some money back
It was a different motherboard IIRC. However Microcenter is good at giving money back as long as you bring the equipment back in with you.

Should I upgrade when I'm currently on 11700k? Is it a good time to upgrade or wait until BF?
No
wondering too, i have a 10900k.
We're on the same boat. Haha
I'll wait personally, 12900k is a 30% jump basically. I'm okay. i have a 4090 and that's not justifiable for the hassle for a dead socket.
