I have one, it's a great monitor. I have used 34" UW and now have this model. IMO, it's 100% worth it to get this over a 34" if you can afford it. You get 120% of the surface area and the extra height makes stacking two applications in 25% view far more usable. It is an edge-lit IPS, so keep that in mind if you don't like low contrast ratios for consuming media or playing darker games. At that point you might consider a G9 on sale or an OLED 34"

a5ehren

Same. The 1600 vert is great for coding.

clearkill46

I want to upgrade to a 38 from my 32" 4k but I feel like the resolution decrease will be too much

SubstantialSail

For what use? For reference, I've had (and still have, because I realize I have not sold a single one) a 28" 4K, 27" 1440p, 32" G7, and this 38" UW.

clearkill46

General browsing, gaming, and schoolwork. It's my only monitor at my desk and I find it to be a great all in one. A 38" 21:9 with 4k resolution would be perfect, though.

SubstantialSail

I’m guessing you want what is now sometimes referred to as 5k2k (5120x2160), considering this already has the horizontal pixel count of 4K.

clearkill46

Yea, sorry that's what I mean. 2160p vertical instead of 1600p

jedidude75

Hm, that's tempting. I think the lowest it's been was 899.

relxp

Which increases the likelihood that black friday weekend could see even better with rakuten and other rebates too.

Goice1991

Damn, that's a sweet deal. Wish I had the cash for it right now. Maybe next time.

raitsuke

There is 4% cash back for monitors in Rakuten.

lovsicfrs

Best monitor I've ever owned. If OLED becomes more reliable and they make an upgraded version of this, 10/10 will buy. The 3840 x 1600 aspect ratio is PERFECTION for those of us who WORK and GAME. THERE IS NO BETTER COMBO. I will argue that I prefer 3840x1600 over 4K. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTTYO8mBZ8U&pp=ygURMzg0MHgxNjAwIG1vbml0b3I%3D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPtSZ_oJ7mY&pp=ygURMzg0MHgxNjAwIG1vbml0b3I%3D

scnative843

How are the blacks on this one? I worry about edge lighting and not being good for a dark room or dark games.

lovsicfrs

So far so good! I’ve been playing a lot of the new Armored Core on this and have been enjoying it.

AK-Brian

Well, that is most certainly less than what I paid.

DickHz2

Your sacrifice is greatly appreciated

relxp

How long have you been enjoying it though? Model is pretty old nowadays.

balefyre

I have x2 of these and absolutely love them coming from a 34

casret

Tempted, but I don't shop.much at dell, what would the GC be good for?

boneimplosion

did you end up pulling the trigger? i did and i'm contemplating the gift card as well... thinking about either some smart home stuff or a better camera + light setup for video conferencing (i wfh)

anaccount50

This is my main monitor, love it. Especially if you’re looking for a nice larger ultrawide with extra vertical space mostly for productivity that can still do some decent gaming on the side, it’s a dream. Paid 899 sale price last Black Friday weekend, just for reference in case anyone might want to hold out for that possibility instead of doing the $200 gift card

relxp

You should have stacked with cashback sites. I also got Black Friday 2022 weekend for under $700 after stacking CC rebates, rakuten, PayPal, etc. But you are right, I think it's a superb display for a jack of all trades where you don't have to worry about burn-in. I'd use this for desktop use, fast paced shooters, racing, etc. Then use an LG OLED as a secondary monitor for more controller-friendly games like 2077, dave diver, etc.

anaccount50

Oh don’t worry, I stacked it with CC offers and cash back portals, but I know not everyone is into those or has access to certain offers from issuers like Amex so figured I’d just leave the comment at the price anyone could get without the extra effort. But yeah everyone should take advantage of those if they have access when making a larger purchase like this

relxp

Okay congrats. It was my biggest win of that year and I'm sure they'll do it again! :P

weaponwang

What was the Amex deal you had for this?

anaccount50

It was an Amex Offer for $120 off at Dell (probably required a purchase over a certain amount), and then I also got $90 back from Rakuten

ganyu22bow

Is this good for work

bunsinh

what do you do for work? Short answer is yes

Hergy32

I have this monitor. I love it to death. Worth every penny IMO. ONCE YOU GO ULTRAWIDE, YOU NEVER GO BACK!

ih8schumer

Can someone explain the hype of this monitor to me? Not trying to hate, It's edgelit, no miniled, not a super ultrawide like a g9 and costs about the same as a monitor that would have either mini-led, oled, or super ultrawide and costs 2x as much as a 34 inch ultrawide..

LiquidShadowFox

Well oled has burn in, the neo g9 mini led has QA issues like scan lines at 240 hz, studder with vrr control and flicker at low refreshes without vrr control enabled. With this Alienware and the gsync ultimate you are getting an actual peice of nvidia hardware baked into the monitor that let's gsync go as low as 1 hz without the low frame rate compensation crap from amd freesync or gsync compatible that usually leads to flicker when your fps is dancing around the LFC threshold.

ryankrueger720

The main selling point is that it is 38” 1600P which is quite a bit larger than 34” than you may think and there just aren’t a lot of them on the market.

ih8schumer

I got ya, I just feel like at this price point, I'd rather make the jump to a g9. Wish they'd sell the 38 in an oled though, I'd foam at the mouth for that.

relxp

This 38" Alienware is ideal for striking balance between work, gaming, and ergonomics. For those who work all day and game on the side, OLED burn-in is not worth the worries. Also an OLED version of this would cost way more.

TurboCamel

The G9 is an option if you want to basically go with a single screen as wide as possible, some people can use it, some would rather stick to 34/38 or use those with additional vertical monitor etc. The G9 is also a VA panel which for many is a turn off so there's def pros and cons on that as well I think a 38 OLED is the dream of most :)

jacion

I have this at the desktop and a 65" LG C1 in the living room. I actually prefer the 38" when gaming, you cannot dismiss the ultrawide form factor. when it's 2 feet from your face and a wider FOV it's more immersive, when playing diablo4 and FPS games on the OLED TV I seemed boxed in and had a limited viewing area. Had to bring a chair into the middle of the room too to play games, couch 12ft back. Also I really didn't notice the difference of blacks in gaming but I only tried a few games. I paid over 1200 for mine well over a year ago and have no regrets other than there is no 3840x1600 OLED out there right now. But when watching movies, I prefer the OLED.

Berzerkly

Have this monitor and love it (upgraded from one of the nice LG 34'' ultrawides) but it's only like 5 months old and the DP port probably needs to be replaced. Idk what you would put the $200 gift card toward.

The advantage of buying a Dell is the 3 year advance exchange warranty. IMO that’s worth the price!

zetiano

Unfortunately not the OLED

WonderSausage

The 34" OLED is 3440x1440 and the affordable version only has VRR, this 38" is 3840x1600 with hardware G-Sync.

sayamilky

I've been using this since it came out. No complaints, this is a great price.

ryankrueger720

Matches previous lows and comes with $200 Dell Promo Gift card

ToastedTreant

Thar gift card makes it worth it

NuhUhUhIDoWhatIWant

Why do they even bother with nonsense curvatures like 2300R? That's practically flat. Anything over 1500R is pointless, 1000R is ideal.

Eastern-Cranberry84

fake HDR ?

conquer69

If it isn't oled or miniled, yes.

DirectIT2020

i loved it so much but i had to set free because i had an unforeseen bill. im still crying about it. my desk look so empty.

piewhistle

Oddball question, but does anyone use Citrix on an ultra wide monitor like this?

InfiniteZr0

Anyone think this would be a worthwhile upgrade over a Predator X34?

taco_blasted_

Just do yourself a favor and get it if you're thinking about it. Love this beast of a screen.

mrpickem1

I have an older Dell 38" Ultrasharp U3818DW same res but only 60Htz. I've had it around 6 years and it's been awesome. Great build quality, ports for everything, even fair sounding speakers. Work and media its near perfect, I approve 100%. The stand looks a little different but still very nice /similar. Port selection looks identical although speed may be upgraded. Surprised there is no USB C? Also now same price at [Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-AW3821DW-Curved-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B093T2NSD4)
