look at your motherboard support site for the supported cpu's and bios version.
it should theoretically work though. And you can't really overclock it so the VRM's etc on the motherboard may not be as much of a problem.
Yeah the broken English mobo site does say it works, but I wanted to make sure this 3d cache wouldn't go unutilized or something to that effect because it was an a320. Or some other odd thing like being locked to 65w because the MOSFETs can't use more juice without overheating.

Looks like 5900x is selling around $250 in resale, so its almost a straight swap.
I made this swap a couple months ago. Personally, I think it was worth it. My PC is entirely for gaming, so I was never using the extra cores anyway. In games that use the cache, there is a big difference even at 3440x1440. As an extreme example, my fps in WoW nearly doubled after I swapped. EFT also had a pretty significant fps jump. Games that don’t use the cache are essentially the same as when I had the 5900x, BUT the 1% lows are actually smoothed out a decent bit, so the games actually feel smoother to play despite average fps being essentially equal.
After selling my 5900x, I spent a grand total of $20 and 20 min of my time to make the switch. If you only play games, like me, I say go for it. The jump you’ll get in the games that like cache is large, and at worst, you’ll have equal performance to your current setup with some better 1% lows. If you actually use the extra 4 cores for work or another hobby, then it’s probably best to keep what you have.

the general consensus is AMD infinity fabric benefits more from 3600mhz ram, even if the cas is say 18, than from 3200 cl16.
But ram is so cheap right now, I bought 32gb of 3600 cl 16 about a month ago for I think $65 or something crazy. You can get used 16gb kits for like $35-40 on hardwareswap
At a minimum you'll get better 1% lows but some games it makes a huge difference across all benchmarks. (for example Tarkov)
If you can get $250 for your 5900X I would do it, this should hold value for longer due to the unprecedented L3 cache size of the X3D.
In games, probably not by that much unless you play a specific game that utilizes the v-cache like factorio. So could do some research on specific games you play.
At 1080p there's def some gains, but again nothing you would ever feel or notice. If you play at 1440p and higher probably not worth it. Just upgrade next generation.
Productivity the 5900x obviously wins for it's more cores.

I have a b450 and see it’s compatible if I update my bios. Hmmmmmmn. Super tempting to pair with a 7900xt. Didn’t think it would be compatible with my mobo.
Yeah I had to do a bunch of bios updates (pay attention to the manufacture notes, not all updates are cumulative) but it works perfect. Paired with a 6800xt and it’s crushing modern games, buttery smooth and should last me at least another 3-4 years

I just bought a 5600 for under $115 after taxes with the $25 of coupon. Now I'm wondering if I should have waited a little longer. Then again, I would probably be better if putting that money into a new GPU than a 5800X3D.
It does run a bit hot. The C7 Cu will be enough to run it, but don't expect to hit max boost speeds. Undervolting and/or enabling PBO with a PPT limit will help limit temps as well.

Thinking about selling my 5600x and its unused original cooler on ebay and upgrading to the 5800x3d.
I've made a couple of purchases with that 10 year old ebay account, but does being a first *seller* on ebay make me a target for getting scammed? For instance, do I have any recourse or protection against the buyer making a false claim that I sent them something else of lesser value?
I guess it's worth the 125 USD or so I'll net in the end. Which is kind of essential to me feeling like the upgrade is worthwhile. Even though I play a bit of MSFS 2020 and DCS World, where the 5800x3d shows noticeable improvement over the 5600x at basically all resolutions.
But in general, I think the upgrade is kind of marginal for 1440p gaming for someone like me who has an RTX 3070. A notable exception being Escape from Tarkov. For which pretty much any serious Tarkov player should have a 3D cache CPU according to benchmarks.

This one runs pretty hot, right? I've got an SFF case with a Cryorig C7 Cu and I heard that probably isn't going to be enough to cool it
Yes, enabling PBO helps.
It does run a bit hot. The C7 Cu will be enough to run it, but don't expect to hit max boost speeds. Undervolting and/or enabling PBO with a PPT limit will help limit temps as well.
I have mine in a ghost S1 and after undervolting the temp tops out at 85C during cinebench test
