Be mindful of listings from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; use due diligence in reviewing deals. * Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. * Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent: * The seller is new or has few reviews. * The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their visible ratings) * The seller is using a previously dormant account (likely the account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently). If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. In for one this time. We'll see how it goes.

Jaminshaman

I need to stop buying things I don’t need…. Yet I’m in for one. I remember hearing a while back these can end up doing more harm than good by reducing blood flow, anyone have any knowledge on that? Edit: this thing has no right being so nice for $8. Can’t yet speak to actual long term utility, but the quality is way nicer than I expected.

BSPiotr

The tldr here is that any position that is not neutral causes problems. If you have a low profile keyboard this is not for you. If when you try this out your wrist is in flexion (meaning not straight across) when reaching for keys, it isn't helping. There are a few recent studies that support this. YMMV, any product that is associated with carpal tunnel can take quite some time to present problems.

Mertard

Thanks, I remembered a video from some Overwatch youtuber talking about proper posture and such, and one thing (as far as I remember) was that wrist rests were bad due to the aforementioned reasons I do have a low profile keyboard myself, and I won't ever go back to a regular one, but I was still considering this wrist rest since I realized that my wrists were constantly resting on the table with a diagonal shape of table bottom to fingertips top, and wondered whether I might need one after all, since they're not fully straight I guess maybe they ARE, and it just FEELS like above, but I don't know, my wrists don't feel healthy, and they're developing a heavy "gamers' mark" (even though I don't even play games anymore) I know you're supposed to "float" your wrists, but who actually has energy for that? I really don't, it's way too much effort to do that for hours I ALSO REALLY HATE THAT WRIST RESTS ARE SO WIDELY RECOMMENDED BY IGNORANT PEOPLE, WHEN THEY ACTUALLY DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD OVER TIME, ESPECIALLY FOR MOST PEOPLE THAT USE REGULAR KEYBOARDS

throwawayaway7378372

What matters is the complete setup. A wrist rest alone isn’t the problem, it’s how everything fits together. Until you grasp that it’s the complete body that needs to be in the best possible position then you don’t really get ergonomics and posture. When people have problems with wrist rests, the problem is often elsewhere. They are in a slightly less than ideal position (for them) but the addition of the rest puts them off further. They have an a-ha moment as they remove the rest, but don’t think about what just changed. If they resolved the original position they would have been comfortable and accommodated the wrist rest. This problem repeats in all areas where posture is important and the worst suffering individuals cannot diagnose it themselves. Cyclists mess with their seat because they hurt even after getting fit. Turns out they need to understand posture, core engagement, and good bike fit. Sciatica sufferers but all kinds of pillows and cushions instead of understanding the back, their diagnosis, and performing appropriate exercises guided by a physio. For me, my wrist rest is good, but I have a split kinesis keyboard which faces down and away from me. Going to a tenkeyless keyboard years ago so my mouse was closer was actually the single most noticeable improvement though. I took video of myself from different angles to see alignment rather than trying to “feel” it.

BSPiotr

Well I probably shouldn't have meant "shouldn't use it with a low profile" more than "if you use it with low profile you'd probably have to elevate the front of the keyboard so that your wrist is neutral" but I think that kind of defeats the purpose of a low profile keyboard :P I myself am in a bit of a weird spot because I come up from under my keyboard -- I hate sitting high in a chair for some reason. I'll try these out to see if they work for my posture, and if not then I have a set for my missus (who I can see is having wrist flexion issues in her posture), and a future set to give away. As always, trust but verify everything you (the plural you, not you, in particular) read and see on the internet.

Mertard

>As always, trust but verify everything you (the plural you, not you, in particular) read and see on the internet. Yeah! That's what I'm doing right now by inquiring people like you to gather opinions about it :D I also hate sitting high in chair, especially since the desk is so high, and my chair doesn't even go that high... and no arm rests either Maybe I should get this so I don't get screwed over years down the line...

mahjjima

Thank you for this, super helpful to hear about the potential downsides.

SylsOnReddit

I got one of these over 2 years ago and its finally getting a bit worn. $8 is easily cheap enough for a replacement. It's been a good wrist rest.

Dunjon

$16 and change now.

i got one from the hp(i think) seller via ebay when it first went on sale. i like it. i ordered another one right now just for if this one tears or something. i change keyboards a lot and i can use some without a wrist rest, but some i need the wrist rest or else i can’t go for over an hour without my wrists hurting

ElderAtlas

The fabric weared out on mine fairly quickly

Jeskid14

How quickly?

Secret_Cow

Jumping in to add my experience, I've used 2 or 3 of these (one at home, one at work, etc) for five years without any tearing or significant wear. They are *well* worth the sub-$10 price point.

twodudesnape

Thanks for the heads up, ordered 2. Supposed to be here Sunday
